Recently Facebook had launched a new feature called Sponsored Stories. Using this feature, brands could post in the news feed of users whose friends had liked or commented upon the brand page. As a result, some people filed a law suit against Facebook, stating that by posting ads which have been liked by their friends, the site is violating the right of publicity law in the state. The judge did not dismiss the case but also said that Facebook is not trying to get rich through unfair means by using sponsored ads.

The Californian statute cited by the plaintiff states that a person’s name, voice, signature, photograph or likeness cannot be used for advertising without consent. These plaintiffs believe that they should get monetary compensation as their name and likeness was used in these sponsored ads. The judge said in a 38 page report that the plaintiffs have set up a sound argument and that Facebook may actually owe them some money.

Facebook however has stated that ‘Sponsored Stories’ ads do not need prior permission because they fall under an exemption of the above stated law which is for ‘newsworthiness’. The site claims that the plaintiff are already public figures to their friends on the site, and by liking a particular product they create newsworthy material that can be shared with their friends. This particular lawsuit poses a threat to the central method of revenue generation for Facebook as about 90% of Facebook’s revenue comes from ads. Social media marketing training can help you to learn more about sponsored stories on Facebook.

Link research is very important when it comes to SEO and there are various SEO tools available for this task. Yahoo Site Explorer was one such tool that was an essential part of any SEO campaign. However, this tool was disabled recently.

That is why finding a reliable new link research tool has become important, and Quick Backlink Checker seems to be that tool. What is unique about this particular tool is that the creators of this tool, Link Research Tools, claim that it has been made specifically to replace Yahoo Site Explorer.

One small difference compared to yahoo site Explorer is that you will have to shell out a few bucks for an account. This should not be a problem as the charges are quite less. You cannot generate more than 100 reports per month when using the Quick Account.

When you are starting a particular report, you will have two options, you can either review your own URL, or you can go for reviewing the entire domain. The results are delivered quite quickly and the reports generated are saved, though for a short time only.

Data presented to you is for 9 different points and along with these you get the raw links as well. The default display setting is to show the data on a pie chart. You can change the setting to view the data in a grid format. You also have the option of exporting the data in CSV or XLS format. You can use SEO training Canada to learn more.

Ever since Google launched its social networking platform Google+, it has always been trying to improve it. Recently, Google announced few more changes and some of them were aimed at Google Brands Pages. When Google pages were first launched, one of the biggest complaints was that there could only be a single administrator for every page. However, now that limit has been increased to 50. Also, users now have the ability to adjust the volume for their circles.

When Google+ Pages was first launched people had a lot of trouble because there was no way an admin could post on the brand page without giving his/her personal account information to someone else. Not only this, now users will be able to see how many people have +1′d the page and how many users have added the page to their circles. Another important change is that all the admins of the page will be notified about every activity going on the page.

You might have seen the ‘How Many Updates’ feature on Facebook. The new volume control feature for circles is pretty similar. However, the Facebook controls are applicable to personal users, but the changes made by Google are applicable to all the circles. User can select from different options from streams regarding the volume. They can go for ‘Show everything from this circle’, ‘show most, ‘show fewer’, and ‘show none’. Google notifications have also been modified as users will be able to see a small preview without going to the post. To learn more you should visit SEO workshop Toronto.

Anyone who is involved in local search engine marketing will realize the importance of Google Analytics. Ever since the launch of version three of Google Analytics, there have been numerous updates to the product. Because of all these changes there was a need for a new API and finally developers have got what they wanted.

Previously, the developers had to use the Data Export API, but now this is defunct and has been replaced with the Google Analytics Core Reporting API. The change in the API is similar to the changes they have made to the APIs of other products and that includes he JavaScript client library which has been changed for a lot of Google products’ APIs.

This Core Reporting API has basically two versions. Version 3.0 is the latest release and it has libraries for other languages like Ruby, Python, and PHP. What is even more appealing about the new API is that it is 10 times more efficient at reducing the size of the outputted data compared to older APIs. The 2.4 version of the API is there to maintain compatibility with Data Export API that was version 2.3.

In version 3.0, the two major changes that the developers will notice is that authentication is through OAuth 2.0 and also JSON format is used for data output. Another important fact is that there is absolutely no compatibility with version 2.3 API. If you do decide to create custom apps using 2.3 version then you have to update in a span of 6 months. To learn more about Google Analytics you should try SEO training Toronto.

Google+ has been working hard to increase its user base so that it can catch up with Facebook. One of these steps has been the introduction of Google+ brand pages. Now, you have an option to link your Google+ business page to your AdWords account using the Social Extensions feature. Now this is a new addition and there might be few glitches, but it can prove quite effective for your PPC campaign.

Firstly, you need to know what these social extensions are. They are just Google’s way of marking the followers that you have on Google+ on the PPC ad that appears on Google search result pages. There are two types of social extensions available as of now. One of them is a personal social extension that shows the number of people that +1 your Google+ brand page. The other is called the basic social extension. When it’s used, you will get to see the number of people that have +1′d the Google+ page or the landing page of your site across the web.

Even though social extensions are still in nascent stages it has been observed that ads with social extensions enabled have a better CTR (Click through rate). One of the most significant benefit is that as of now very few people are using them, so you can gain an upper hand over your competitors. Also, it only takes a few minutes to setup the extension and it gives your ads a lot more credibility. It helps in increasing your visibility as well, because the +1′s on your ads will also be reflected in your Google+ page. You can use PPC training to use this feature in a better manner.

Anyone involved in SEO will tell you the importance of keywords. Even though this importance is well known, people often approach keyword research in a manner that is completely aloof form the strategy they use for creating content. Following different strategies for both these topics, that is, content creation and keyword research will leave you with a site that does not deliver any result.

A lot of people end up creating the page first and then try to rank it for a particular keyword. Then they try to modify the keyword, and this process continues till the time you reach a page that does not make much sense. To avoid such situations you should follow a particular strategy. The first step of this strategy involves shortlisting all the keywords that you would want to be ranked for. Once you have these words figured out, you should map them with the content on your pages according to how relevant they are.

The second step involves understanding the needs of the user. You should think about what the user would expect from the content of the page. If the page is about tennis racquets, the user would want to know how they are made, the quality, longevity, different brands, price and other information. Also, make sure that you have a page for a keyword that has a broad range, like tennis racquets. You should not use this page to target other keywords. Rather have this page link to other pages with specific keywords. You should opt for web analytics training for a better understanding of this.

Google+ has emerged as the only real contender against Facebook over the past few years. Twitter might have a decent number of followers but it is does not aim to be a social media platform like Facebook or Google+. Facebook has been around for quite some time and is a well-established force. Google+ on the other hand is very new and despite accumulating over 40 million users in a short span of time, it is still behind Facebook. As a result, Google+ cannot afford to commit any mistakes if it wants to strengthen its challenge for the top spot amongst social media sites. But, it seems that a mistake might have already been committed.

Google+ recently came out with brand pages. This was a feature similar to Facebook pages, and allowed celebrity and brands to create pages for establishing their presence on the site. The problem lies in the fact that anyone can create a page for any brand. You can go ahead and create a page for Pepsi or any other big company. In fact, at the time of writing this piece, the real page for Coca-Cola had fewer followers than a page created by a fan.

Facebook maintains a database of all the major companies, and when you try to create a page for such a company it displays an error saying the page already exists. Google should learn from Facebook and soon correct this mistake if it wants to compete with Facebook in this race of social media giants. Social media marketing training can help you in understanding such pitfalls better.

Google is by far the most popular search engine, and the reason for this is the efficiency with which it works. Google keeps updating its algorithm to provide users with what they are looking for. Google’s algorithms have always remained a heavily guarded secret, but in recent times they have started becoming more transparent with the changes they make. Here are some of these changes.

One of the changes is that the short text that is displayed on the search engine result page (SERP) often called meta-description will be taken from the content of the page rather than the header text or the menu of the page.

Also, text for navigational links that is repeated will not be given more weightage. Apps play a major role on today’s markets, and if they are marked correctly then the SERP will display not only the cost but the user review as well.

Google used to use images, which had reference form multiple locations on the internet, as a factor for ranking but has now removed it.

It has also taken steps to provide more specific results when users use a date range for their queries.

Most of these changes have been made on a global level or for the people that speak English, but a few of them are also meant only for the foreign markets. Google has put in a lot of effort in improving Cross Language Information retrieval and the webpages will have an additional title that will link the user directly to the translated version of the page. People should use SEO training Canada if they want to take full advantage of these changes.

The simplicity of Google search is based on a complex set of algorithms. Every year, more than 500 changes are made to Google’s algorithm. The search engine giant recently made a number of fresh changes to its algorithm.

While generating page titles, Google takes into account a number of things. The anchor text in links is one of the signals considered while generating the title of a page. Now the emphasis on this signal has been reduced because of less relevance of boilerplate links featuring duplicated anchor text. This will help the search engine generate titles that are more relevant and specific to the content available on the page.

Google has also made a major change in snippets. In order to offer more relevant snippets, more content will now be picked up from the page itself rather than the menu or header. Rich snippets for applications, which allow users looking for software applications to see details such as reviews and cost in search results, were announced recently. Google has now expanded application rich snippet coverage. This means that now more such snippets will be available.

The search engine giant also made a significant change in the fresh content ranking process. The improvement enables the algorithm to assess the suitable level of content freshness for search terms. As many as 35% of total searches are likely to be affected by this change. With Google accounting for more than 65% of all searches, staying up-to-date with these changes is necessary for internet marketers.

To understand more about the impact of these and other changes that Google has made to its algorithm, make sure you attend one of our SEO training Canada sessions.

ValueTrack, the AdWords URL-tagging feature, offers useful information on each of your ad clicks. This data can help you optimize your targeting criteria and maximize your ROI. Although a useful feature, its functionality is lesser known compared to other AdWords features. Marketers can currently include fifteen ValueTrack parameters in their ad destination URLs. When a visitor clicks on an ad containing these tags, its URL is updated with specific data on that click. You can access this information by reviewing incoming traffic logs.

Ad position is one of the ValueTrack parameters. When you include this tag in your ad destination URL, it will appear as http://www.xyz.com/?position={adposition}. On checking your web logs, you will see something like http://www.xyz.com/?position1s4 for individual users. This means that the tag will be replaced with information. In this case, the data indicates that your ad appeared on the first page of search results in the 4th position. If you are new to ValueTrack, you will find the comprehensive help page very useful. Our PPC training workshop offers detailed information on using ValueTrack and other AdWords features.

Based on the technology you use to power your AdWords account and how advanced it is, you may already have access to the data offered by certain ValueTrack parameters. But tags like {network}, {keyword} and {matchtype} provide easy access to basic information on individual clicks. Depending on network, matchtype and keyword used, the value of traffic can vary greatly. In order to effectively analyze, bid and segment your traffic, you need to have this information. Apart from this, ValueTrack provides a lot of other useful information as well including the category of page and domain where your ad was displayed and performance difference between various ad copy versions.
