]]> The Red-Bleu Rietveld chair was designed between 1918 and 1920, and is still an icon of modern interior design.

Gerrit Th. Rietveld build his own furniture from cheap materials and simple designs, the prototype of his famous chair came to life in 1918.
As you can imagine, it was rather a controversial design.

Rietveld went back to the basics functions a chair should do, sitting, leaning en supporting…
His studie of these elements in his prototype was the basic ground for "De Stijl" movement membership.

The color settings as we know it today came about in 1919 along with the removal of to sided panels to make the chair "lighter".
The primary colors were used to reflect the colors of the avant garde setting of  "De Stijl"

]]> Today brought a pleasant surprise with my visit to Google.
They have put up one of their special images to get your attention to special events, and now they where celebrating Walter Gropius 125th Birthday! (May 18, 1883)

Most people will not even know who Walter Gropius was, but for me this was a special item, as I just yesterday wrote the page about Das Bauhaus. Das Bauhaus is one of the architectural designs by Walter Gropius.

For me Das Bauhaus marked a revolution in design, with teachers and workshops that brought the “Modern Classics” in product design and contemporary art.
This site is dedicated to such design items, bringing together information on the products itself as well as their designers.

Walter Gropius, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Le Corbusier and others designers will be featured here.
But these great designs and designers would not be here today if it wasn’t for the founding of Das Bauhaus by Walter Gropius.
This celebration will hopefully bring more people to learn about this Modernist Architect.

]]> The Revolt char was designed in 1953 by Friso Kramer for the Dutch company Ahrend Group.

This was in the fifty’s a revolutionary design, as the chair was produced with Bakelite combined with kraft-paper for the seating and back..
The frame was made of metal sheets instead of tubes. The metal sheets was then molded into shape.

This make the whole construction very light and elegant and also cheap to produce.

This chair has a timeless design and is still in production today.

In the 1990’s Friso Kramer created a new version of the chair with some more padding in seat and back, this making it more trendy, because now you can put on different colors to match your interior.

]]> I really like Cars like the Porsche Cayman S, it shows how great a simpel and elegant design can bring a car to life.
