Ruidoso Fire fueled by heavy winds, dry conditions

A fire which started at about 1:30 pm Sunday near the Gavilan Canyon Mobile Home Park, has rapidly moved to the north east, and burned over 6000 acres at last report.

The fire is burning in steep, and rough terrain and has burned east near Ruidoso Downs, across HWY 70 towards Forest Service Road 120.

High winds gusting at over 40 mph, and extremely dry conditions caused the fire advance.

Evacuations were taking place in some areas near the fire, including Billy the Kid Casino, located at the Ruidoso Downs Race Track. Several structures and out buildings have been destroyed.

Over 250 fire fighters are working on this blaze, and a Type II Incident Management Team has been ordered to manage it later today.

To download the app on an Apple mobile device, click the iPhone logo below. Enter agent code 9270 when prompted, and let the search began. All Ruidoso / Lincoln County MLS listings will be available for viewing.

Search options include: Map, hybrid, list, and filter. “Map” and “Hybrid” views, provides a broad geographic area, using Google Maps / Google Earth and will bring up all the listings in a given area. “List” displays properties in a list format, that were shown on the map, or from a filtered search.

“Filter” provides a way to search a price range, bedrooms, baths, sq. ft criteria – in order to filter / show only those properties you desire to see.

Ski Run Road Challenge – 20K road run

Coming up, this Sat. Oct 16, 2010, a 20K ( 12.2 miles ) road race, up the Ski Run Road. The race starts at the Eagle Creek Sports Complex, near Hwy 48, at 7319 ft. elevation, and climbs over 2500 feet to finish at the Ski Apache parking lot – 9970 ft. elevation.

The profits from this event will benefit the Ski Apache Disabled Skiers Program, which is a great cause.

The fall colors are starting to show, especially at these elevations. For more information on this event, visit the Ski Run Road Challenge web site.

UNM Lobo Football team in Ruidoso

It’s been great having the Univ. of New Mexico Lobo Football team in Ruidoso, for two-a-day workouts, and scrimmages. The team is shown here with an evening workout at the White Mountain Sports Complex. In the background is the Lodge at Sierra Blanca, where the team has been staying, while a distant thunderstorm near Sierra Blanca Peak keeps the temps cool in Ruidoso. Go Lobos !
