Hello everyone, it has been a very long time since I posted here. I thank you all for coming around to check on me and leaving such wonderful comments. (Except all the spam there seems to be.)

I am doing fine, and finally have started blogging again. However I am now on WordPress. You can find Me at Wandering Gypsy Spirit . I will leave my blogs up here on blogger, perhaps to revisit at some point.

I do need to get around and visit everyone, bear with me, I will get there sooner later.

A New Start, Thankfully

Finally, I have a new job, I start Monday!

I can’t count how many applications I have filled out. My days seemed to drag as I made my way through what little work we had. And the nights dedicated to the search for possibilities. Luckily, I was able to spend a few varied days, actually going around to visit potential employment opportunities, although to no avail.

I was actually getting a little worried. Every potential employer was telling me the same thing. Without current experience, as in at least a year within the last five years, they could not hire me. Many offered schooling, but for a time frame and cost that simply didn’t fit my finances.

With the economic situation, Things were looking pretty dim indeed. Then Last weekend I filled out a few more applications on line. I heard from most of them, basically with the same results as before. Strangely, the first one I filled out, I didn’t hear from until Wednesday. They were my saviors, and offered the possibility of work contingent on passing a refresher course. I have no worries about that, I’m confidant I will pass with no trouble. Even better, it’s shorter and less expensive than all the others, and it’s local.

Soon my wanderlust will be fed, and I can enjoy the view from the drivers seat. After my two week course, I spend about two months with a trainer, driving for familiarization. Then I’ll be on my own, traveling the 48 contiguous and probably Canada, delivering the goods of society.

This last week has been a stress filled fun time. Although opportunities I had hoped for fell through, I still had a decent week. The dream is there, right in front of my eyes. Tempting and full of potential. I just have to find that key. The one little golden key, that will open the door that stands between me and my visible dream.

While one opportunity fades, another seems to surface. I suppose it’s all about persistence, dedication, and follow through. This challenge, the hunt for an occupation, is like a sunrise over the ocean. Always promising, foreboding, and unknown, all wrapped up in one beautiful package. I just keep hoping for calm seas, and fair weather. Perhaps at some point, I will get the break I need and be able to set course, with prevailing winds to carry me to port.

I believe I have discovered one thing. Worry is counterproductive, and never helps when navigating the dangerous waters. I’m trying hard to keep a positive attitude, and have faith that eventually everything works out for the best.

The Pieces Just Fell Into Place Like a Puzzle

Today started off kind of poorly, but finished in fine fashion. I can’t believe how much a little bit of good news can boost the moral. To be honest, this last weekend was pretty rough, nothing falling into place, and one thing after another stacking on my shoulders, weighing on my thoughts. After this evening though, I feel much better, for a nice piece of luck that has seemed to just drop in my lap.

I’m not going to go in depth just yet, but suffice it to say I could very soon, be visiting the contiguous 48 and Canada. Really, I’m still in a bit of a state of shock. I’m just not willing to believe that things can fall into place as easily as they seem to have.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed, and hoping for the best, but things are certainly looking up. I just hope there are no missing pieces to this puzzle. I would really like to see what it looks like when completed.

Well, things are looking up, I won’t say more because I don’t want to jinx myself. I’ll say this, the photo to the left is titled “Dream Catcher Truck”, and is highly appropriate to my mood today. I sure hope it catches a dream for me.

Today was a decent day, with a couple of service calls at least. Still no new construction, and with the economy in the state it is, I don’t see that changing any time soon. It’s unfortunate that so many companies are feeling the crush these days. We all have to do more for less, and still survive as long as possible.

I completed my resume, an interesting look back for me. It has been so long since I even considered the “life” of my past occupations. Some times I worry about the number of different jobs I’ve held. Then I stop to consider the benefit of a varied background, and relax just a little bit, a very little bit.

I have submitted two of my blogs to Kindle Publishing. They are currently in the pending status, waiting to be reviewed prior to approval. If all goes well, people who use Kindle, will be able to get my blogs right on their neat little toy.

This is an interesting option, and one I’m trying to take advantage of. If all goes as planned, I will have another blog listed on Kindle, one dedicated solely to fiction. I created the site some time ago, and then let it set during my “hiatus”. I’ve gone ahead, and started posting some stories in parts, and will let everyone know where to find it before long. It’s something I had been working on long before I even started The Inferno project, and have been meaning to revive for a couple of months now.

It’s time now, for me to get serious and put some of those ragged ideas I have floating around my head, into some form of structure. Get those stories out, and on page / screen for others to review, and hopefully enjoy.

I’m settling in for a, hopefully, quiet, non eventful weekend. It seems all to often what starts out as a nice weekend, can turn, dull or even worse, stressful, at a moments notice. I have a lot to do, aside from the family history research, I mean.

First off, I have to get my poor old truck running again. It’s been parked for a few years now, after the engine let go on me. I put a new engine in it two years ago, and then just let it sit, because the fuel costs were so high back then. Now, I think I’m going to be needing it to get around. I’ve been using my work truck for so long, I have gotten spoiled. That appears to be about to come to a drastic end though, so measures must be taken.

Also, I will be spending a fair amount of time compiling and updating my resume. A task I’m not looking forward to because of the reasons behind it. Needless to say, “The Hunt”, is on, and unfortunately, not my usual form of hunting. I’ll be looking at the trucking industry, and hopefully will be able to find something that allows me to get out of state a little more often. I would like to find somewhere to settle in until retirement. Wish me luck, and keep your fingers crossed for me.

The Storms Struck, Stalked, Then Vanished

Well, we survived the rains, and the tornados were pretty far to the east, so we’re still here. Others, over in Dallas, were not so lucky! Within less than an hours time yesterday, Wednesday Sep 8 th., Dallas had seven tornados touch down in various sections of the city. They were all spawned of two separate storm clouds that seemed to meet and merge in a marriage of destructions over the south eastern section of Dallas. They wed and then went on a damaging tirade through different sections of the city.

I’m uncertain of the exact toll resulting from this destructive storm, but I heard sure it’s not going to be pretty. Property damage was extensive, and strangely spaced through the city. We sat in front of the TV, transfixed as we were able to watch each funnel cloud form, strike a devilish blow, then disappear, only to reform a few moments later farther along the path. This is the first time, I have ever watched the progress of a thunderstorms in such vivid clarity.

The tornados were all part of hurricane Hermine, a storm system that appeared rather weak when it struck the coast 3 days ago. As it traveled through Texas though, it left a wake of flood waters, damage, and destruction. Here in our own neighborhood, we were stuck most of the morning, with all four entrances blocked my massive flooding. I had 6 inches of rushing water through my yard. I teased the Blinda, and told her she better put life jackets on the Chihuahuas before letting them out. Of course I didn’t have to worry, they wouldn’t leave the front porch.

The long weekend, sadly, is over and I have to get ready for the work week once again. I enjoy working, not necessarily the work that I currently do, but keeping busy, and trying to provide for the family. But I have learned to enjoy my time off far more.

I was not always this way. There was a time, when I would have preferred working to just about anything. I guess it was in my nature and for some reason, I simply couldn’t turn it off. What exactly happened that allowed me to flip that switch, I’m not really sure. All I know is that now day’s I value my days off with far more appreciation than ever before.

There is nothing for me to do but look forward to a good work week, with a positive attitude. Hoping for the best, sometimes helps it along it’s way to finding you.

Labor Day Feast Fantastic

We had a fine feast today, while visiting Blinda’s sister. It was the traditional Labor Day party, where the choice of food is beyond imagination. Everything grilled to tender perfection, and simply dripping with flavor. We had smoked beef brisket, grilled chicken, barbecue pork, and so much more.

The only disadvantage, is after stuffing myself to capacity, I had some difficulty moving. Will I ever learn? I doubt it. How could I stop, with so much flavorful food sitting in front of me, begging to be sampled.

I thought of the boys and girls in uniform, wherever they are. Hoping they all had a chance to partake of some good food, and friendly companionship. A brief respite from the drudgery of daily stress. Gave thanks for those who have sacrificed for the freedoms we all enjoy.

A Little of This and A Little of That

I’ve been enjoying my weekend, researching to my hearts little content. Best of all, it’s free. Ancestry.com is hosting a free weekend for it’s immigrations records. I have found all kinds of things so far, and the weekend has just started. I’ll be sharing information about what I find on Footprints In Time.

I’ve also found a new mil blog. Flying O is written by a member of the US Air Force who is starting her deployment to Afghanistan. I plan on keeping up with her stories, for I do still have a connection over there. My Nephew is stationed there, pounding the ground with his buddies. Plus one of the old milblog I used to watch, is going back to the danger zone. You can read about it over on Ruminations of a Small Town Mountain Boy later today.

I don’t know if I had mentioned it before, but my son is back from Iraq, and finished his commitment with the Army. He will now be studying locally, to get his degrees in different computer technologies. It sure is nice to have them around.

I Won a New Book!

I did it! I actually won something for a change. The contest I participated in last week has closed, and I was informed today that I won the novel. As you may remember, it is titled, A Question of Trust written by Carole Thayne Warburton, who by the way also has a blog called Musings from “OLD” Paradise.

To participate, I wrote two blog posts, one on Ruminations of a Small Town Mountain Boy, and the one here on Side Notes, Twittered about it, and shared it on facebook. I was going to write another for Footprints In Time, but ended up getting all involved in some research. Before I knew it, Monday was over and I was getting ready for work on Tuesday. Yep, worked right through the night, and didn’t even notice it.

Be sure to check out Carole Thayne Warburton’s new book Sun Tunnels and Secrets available at Amazon, and I’m sure at your local brick and mortar book store. For my part, I’ll be sure to post a review of A Question of Trust, and let you know what I think of it. Not that my opinion carries any weight, LOL.

As for me, if you have not been keeping up with me on Footprints In Time, I have made some fabulous progress on the family history. Things are really getting interesting and a lot of fun. I have even started researching given names, their meanings and possible reasons they were chosen. It is a fairly unique subject, but quite enlightening. I started this little side track of research because I noticed that many of my ancestors from the early 1800’s used specific names repeatedly, even within the same family. They simply changed up the order, and added at least one more. It’s really fascinating to explore.

A few years ago, I was involved with a collaborative writing challenge, the David’s Past Live’s stories. My contribution to the process was a story about a German trapper who’s parents immigrated to the US. It was David’s Past Live’s part 10.

I get a kick out it these days, because of the recent new series on television called Past Life’s. I’ve watched every episode since it started, my interest peaked because of this little project I was involved in a couple of years ago. I find the concept interesting, yet I’m not really sure if I believe in reincarnation.

Today I read an article in the New York Times about this very belief. Remembrances of Lives Past, is a very interesting article, and if nothing else, a pretty sweet little love story. It’s worth a read if you have the time.

I have to admit, I’m being a little pushy here. I am trying to win a free copy of Carole Thayne Warburton’s novel, A Question of Trust. There is nothing like a blog contest to spark an interest in things. Anne Bradshaw’s Place, is hosting this contest, as part of a guest blogger’s article.

In the article, Carol shares a story about when she was fist writing the book. She let her brother read a chapter, and he suggested she visit a cattle auction, as that was the setting in the chapter. The importance of getting the sense correct when writing can never be understated. If you can make your reader feel they can see and smell the dust, hear the cattle bawling, it adds to the effect of “taking your reader there”. Carole shares comments about the importance of research, especially if it’s a subject your not familiar with. It is always better to get the scene right, and not lose any credibility in your readers eyes.

Information Overload

I am suffering from information overload right now. Between the three site I discovered last week, and new portions of a site I found a little while back. I’m compiling information that will extend my family research far beyond what I had anticipated this early in the game. So much information in fact, that I have to really sort and organize it so I don’t get confused and enter duplicates of things.

So I’m going to force myself to take a break for the evening, and just play. Otherwise, I’ll start seeing things that are not there. It’s certainly going to feed Footprints In Time for quite a while now. If I can just keep myself from loosing my mind, or hair in the process, LOL.

Finally Cool(er) Weather

We have finally cooled down to a bearable temperature. It barely broke the 90’s today, and was very pleasant for a change. To bad we didn’t have any work, it would have been nice to have this weather the past few weeks when we were swamped with work. Hey, I have to complain about something, and the weather is always the easiest.

The weather we had been having makes me wonder just how the pioneers of Texas dealt with it. They certainly didn’t have air conditioning, or fans, so they had to have some kind of trick to stay cool.

I’ve been getting myself all caught up in the research, and running out of time to post to my blogs. I’m going to have to figure out a method to get myself straight on this little issue. The only one I’ve kept up with is Footprints In Time, mainly because it’s new, and tied in with my “current” passion. I guess I’ll just have to start forcing myself to get some blog posts one BEFORE I start in on more research.

I’ve made fabulous progress with the family history, with many new finds. Now I have to organize it all, and enter it into my new program Legacy Family Tree. Not to mention citing all my sources, and all that good practice stuff.

Monday Mischief

Today, we started work on the waterfall project. I know this picture does not do justice to the actual scene, but it’ll give you an idea of what we’re doing. That stack of boulders is about 15 to 16 feet high. There is nearly 6 semi truck loads of boulders there. Many of which can not be seen because they are underneath and behind, adding to the basic support of the whole thing.

We spent the day dealing with the top three tiers, adjusting them carefully so the water would cascade off the front without a problem. When the boulders were placed, no thought was given to the “flow” of water. The top few tiers, ended up being tilted toward the rear of the stack. This would have caused a problem, due to the fact that water will not flow uphill. We had to get behind them, and carefully jack them up and shim them with smaller rocks to get the tilt going toward the pond instead of away from it. It was a little precarious a few times. Using a 12 ton and 20 ton bottle jack, and cribbing to support them, we managed to get it done. It only took about 4 hours, so it wasn't all that bad.

Tomorrow, we start setting the piping that will deliver water from a series of three pumps that will be hidden behind the stack of boulders. Each pump will draw water from the stock tank, and deliver 115 gallons per minute to the rocks, at varying levels. That's going to be a total of 345 gallons per minute, that will will be cascading off this impressive stack of boulders. I can’t wait until everything is done, and I get to see for myself just how it’s going to look.

Good Intentions Does Not Get it Done!

Well, I am ashamed to say that I have let my grass grow just a little too long. No, really, I’m talking about my back yard! I meant to get up early yesterday and mow, but for some strange reason, ~~Something to do with this is a weekend~~ I did not. No big deal I still had today, but guess what, Not done yet! Now it’s too damn hot to go out there and mow.

This particular theme has been a recurring issue for me of late. I suppose it has something to do with the fact that I work in the heat all day long, and have no desire to get out in it on the weekend. Well to say the least, my yard now looks like a hay field, and no, not the picture to the left.

At some point, probably later this evening, I’m going to have to get out there and do something about it. I’ve never really been one to enjoy the art of yard work. You know, it just has no appeal to my senses. I have a bad habit of putting the stuff I don’t enjoy on the back burner. Now I have twice the work, due to my procrastination.

Blogger has finally introduced some spam filtering in the comments section of blogs. I can now turn off the comment moderation on my blogs, with reasonable faith that those damn spammers won’t splatter their link filled erroneous comments on my sites. It was a source of some bitterness that I had to start moderating my comments.

I got so tired of seeing those comments with the links to questionable dating sites in the orient popping up on my blog. The worst part was they never seemed to learn, I would remove them, and boom they were right back the next day. I can’t tell you how frustrating it was that it became more of a chore to monitor the comments, than it was to keep the blogs going.

After Blogger started the new filtering system, I waited for a little while to see how well it did. I’m pretty impressed so far, it has caught all but one, trapping nearly 50 spam comments in the filtering system. So from now on those two blogs, Chihuatude and Ruminations of a Small Town Mountain Boy, will no longer have moderated comments.

Now if Blogger can just come up with a reply to individual comments like so many other systems available, I’ll be a happy camper. That’s why I liked Echo so much, but then I started getting duplicated comments on some of my blogs. It became a annoying to have an inbox full of comments from months back, almost two months worth every day. So I decided to remove that system, and stick with Bloggers, hoping that eventually they would catch up with everyone else.

Morning Dawns, Bright and Promising

The morning dawns so slow and purposeful. Why is it that I must wake in the same manner? ~~Giggle, smirk, laugh out loud.~~ I’m simply not a very good morning person. I suppose that comes from the many years of working a night shift. The residual effects, still blatantly visible even after a decade plus.

Not that it mattered much today, the only job I had was a simple and very fast repair. So it leaves me with time on my hands, to do things I enjoy. I figured I would start moving forward with the posts for all my blogs. See if I can cure my laziness of the previous few months. It’s all in the focus of the mind right?

I’ll be having some fun with Ruminations of a Small Town Mountain Boy, and then focus hard on getting some of my recent Mountain Dreams transcribed to a blog post or two. Then we’ll work a few Chihuatude stories up, I’m sure with nine of those little critters running around I can come up with something fun to write. Footprints In Time is a constant source of inspiration, or more correctly my search for family history is. I will have no lack of material there for quite some time.

All things considered, the prospects of creativity are looking very bright indeed. Lets hope the below quote speaks not for my own frame of mind, LOL.

Waterfall Fun

I had an interesting day today. I visited a future job site, where I will be making a water fall! Yes, you read that correctly, a waterfall. This home owner has a stock pond on his property, fairly large one. He had six semi truck loads of boulders brought in, and stacked them carefully with a very large excavator. They stand close to 30 feet tall when finished. He wants me to create a waterfall off those boulders, using water from the stock tank.

This is going to be a new one for me. I’m going to have to get a series of pumps, and pipe the water around behind the boulders, and up. Then set them up so the water cascades over and down the stack of boulders, looking something like the picture above. All the pipes will have to be hidden from view, and the effect has to appear natural. So needless to say, this will be a challenge.

Cool Front Came Through, Ha!

Well, we actually had a cool front come through today. The weather man has been saying all week how it was going to be this day or that day. It finally arrived today. We may have only hit 100 degrees today, instead of 105, 106, 107, or 108. Some cool front huh!

I can’t tell you how much I wish it would really cool off. My poor old Colorado bloodlines, just don’t agree with this Texas Heat. Not to mention the electric bill because the need for constant air conditioning. OUCH! Come on winter, I’m waiting for ya!

I will be getting a little more active with posting on my blogs. I have recently discovered that Ruminations of a Small Town Mountain Boy has been losing Technorati authority. I guess I should have expected that, what with me not posting anything there for some time. I’ll also be posting a little more frequently here.

The ones I really need to work on are Chihuatude and Mountain Dreamer. Sad to say, but there has not been a post on them in a coons age. I’ll work on that, and see what I can do, but Footprints In Time is going to be taking the majority of my attention.

I started an Amazon E-Store for Footprints In Time. You can get all kinds of genealogy related things there. If you get a chance, check it out and see what’s available.

If nothing else, this family history research has sparked another spurt of energy toward blogging.

I Went And Did It, Started Yet Another Blog!

Many of you already know, but I went ahead and started a new blog for genealogy and family history research. I call it Footprints In Time, because I feel like I’m trailing my ancestors through time. I hope it will become a resource for people who, like me, are just starting out in this fascinating journey of genealogical research.

I have already made a number of posts, trying to get the blog fairly active. I’m adding link pages for genealogy blogs, research tools and resources. The more I get involved with it, the more fascinated I become. I’m learning new things every day, and sharing what I learn. I’ll also be doing a genealogy blog round-up, similar to what I used to do on Ruminations of a Small Town Mountain Boy. It will be a regular series, every Wednesday, just like the Monday’s Writers of The Web.

I’ve also created a Facebook page for Footprints In Time, and have started getting a few fans. I have to admit though most of them are family right now. Be sure to check it out and click on the like button to become a fan, I can use all the fans I can get.

I may even write a book for beginning or weekend genealogists. Actually I’ve already started it. It’s in PDF format so it can be downloaded easily. I have the preface, introduction, and first chapter done already. After I get a few the genealogy blog round-ups compiled, I’ll do another book, as a collection of resource, search engine, and blog links, kind of a companion set.
