Chelsea Tuach on YouTube

I just saw this of our little surfer girl from Barbados and had to share with you all!  This is 14 year old Chelsea Tuach.  Already she has prestigious WINS such as being the Barbados National Under 18 Girls Surfing Champion. Chelsea is also just back from Trinidad where she just won the Open Women’s Division and also competed in the Junior Under 21 Division – with 12 of the Caribbeans’ most talented Junior BOYS and made it to the FINAL!! NOt only was she the youngest competitor in this but she was a challenge to the boys, I love it!!

Chelsea will be traveling to California next month for the Rip Curl Grom Search,  you can believe I am looking forward to spending some time with her in and out of the water..and that I will share  with you.

I’m a huge fan of piling on loads and LOADS of eyeliner. For me- the blacker the better…and keep it coming! While I have always loved how smokey eyes look, the actual application has me scared silly. I’m definitely not one you would consider “genetically blessed” in the makeup department (my sister got all those genes). Anyway, I think my luck might have just changed.

Enter Emily of my latest blog obession, Cupcakes and Cashmere. (I mean what’s not to love about that name? She’s a girl after my own heart.) Her tutorial on how to get sexy, smokey eyes is by far the easiest I have ever seen. Check it out here and follow suit.

10/28 – 11/2 Boy Crisis “Dressed To Digress”

Like David Bowie times five, Brooklyn’s Boy Crisis gets the party started with this power-packed pop dance song that will make anyone want to move. In fact, putting you into a cosmic, transcendental state of bliss is their utmost musical mission. We say, mission accomplished. Hedonistic and oh so bouncy, what is not to love about this band? Remember a while back when we introduced the high energy song “Give It Up” by Datarock?  Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better than that.. it did.  Kissy Sellout has remixed “Give It Up” and we have decided to grace you with the fruition.  Slightly more upbeat with less of the dark undertones, don’t worry, it will still cause your legs to move involuntarily

10/6-10/12: Tiny Masters of Today “Ghost Star”

Though the Tiny Masters of Today’s newest album, Skeletons clocks in at only 26 minutes, we can’t seem to get enough of their appealingly authentic rock out attitude. Ada’s vocal delivery on “Ghost Star” is off key but refreshing and real with bits of lyrical randomness.  It is a cry to all the hipster kids that are deathly afraid of the Jonas Brothers or Miley Cyrus, so stand up and fight for your right!

9/29-10/5: Totally Michael “Winona”

Remember back in the ‘90s when Blink 182’s childish yet addicting music and lyrics caused adolescents everywhere to simultaneously jump up and down and sing along? Well there seems to be a new age successor upon our hands, and he is Totally Michael. Armed with only a keyboard and a computer, his catchy caffeinated poppy bounce touts an ‘electro punk’ feel with songs about living forever and having fun. What better way to soothe your ADD and satiate that nagging sporadic urge to simply dance and have a good time? Check out one of his most popular songs, “Winona,” off of his self-titled album, which happens to be our download of the week! It’s outrageousness just might electrify you.

9/22 “Taking Drugs at The Amusement Park” by The Silent Years

It’s always nice to ‘discover’ a new artist and realize that they’ve already released three full length albums! Leave all of your preconceptions of indie rock at the door and try The Silent Years’ latest EP, Let Go, on for size. The song “Taking Drugs At An Amusement Park” is redolent of a carefree ride on a merry-go-round. The dynamics and airy melodies will leave you feeling slightly weightless.

9/15: Michael Zapruder “Ads For Feelings”

We seem to have magnetism towards quirky, avant-garde folk pop, and friends, our radar has led us quickly to Michael Zapruder and his newest release, Dragon Chinese Cocktail Horoscope. His blended melodious energy stems from the wide array of instruments and poetic lyrics that tend to inspire and color any listeners musical canvas. “Ads For Feelings”, the first single off of the album opens up with a fast paced beat and develops into a slew of woodwind. His unconventional compositions are harmonized by the fine and delicate intricacies that one must listen to over and over again.

9/8 “Give It Up” by Datarock

The Norwegian electro rock band, Datarock, has finally released their newest album, Red. You might have already heard them, their song “Fa-Fa-Fa” has been previously featured in commercials for Apple and Coca-Cola, as well as the popular video games, NHL 08, FIFA 08, and NBA Live 08. “Give It Up” is their latest venture, reviving 80s electro rock music, calling all individuals still stuck in their track suits and large awkward sunglasses.

9/1 “Skeletons” by Tiny Masters of Today

We know we told you about the Tiny Masters of Today a while back with their song “Pop Chart” and we’ve now returned to tout about our new obsession.  The song “Skeletons” has bits of fizzy punk and moments of fun that can only stem from the young minds of its creators, Ivan (15 years old) and Ada (13 years old).  They have separated themselves from the pack not due to their age, but simply from their willingness to experiment with remnants of hip-hop, disco, and industrial sounds.  Check out their latest album, Skeleton, we don’t think you’ll be able to hear any inexperience and the level of taste remains on high.

8/25 “Shark Suit” by UUVVWWZ

The first question that will most likely come to mind is, “How the heck do you pronounce that name?”  Pronounced double U double V double W Z, this indie rock quartet from Nebraska has just released their self titled debut album.  Their ambitious and raw energy is reminiscent of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.  ”Shark Suit” is a funky track with a plethora of noise and synthesizers, fluctuating from fragility to intensity all while bringing the audience through constant turbulence and catharsis.  Give them a listen if you like manic music that constantly keeps you on the edge.

The night of the party everyone comes dressed up as their characters. As the night progresses you read different clues starting with the “murderer” of one of the characters and then followed up by different hints pointing to who the “suspect” is.

We’re doing a superhero themed party and I’m going as “Stingmata,” the insect superhero. Other characters include “Nerdon” – the nerdy superhero, “Electra” – the electric superhero, and “Vampo Man” – the vampire superhero (just to name a few). Aye, what don’t I do in a day? I suppose it can be summed up in one sentence: I sweat, bleed, run around, go out of my way, go crazy to make sure editors get the information they want and need for the ROXY brand to stand out prominently in the mediascape…
all because I love my job.

Defining Moment at Roxy:

To be honest, I feel pretty “cool” every morning when I walk in the office doors.  If I had to pinpoint select moments that I exuded “coolness,” I’d have to go with the following:

1. When I secured my first MAJOR product placement for a Roxy rash guard in the print version of The New York Times.  Pitching a product and having it included in a story is a tough thing regardless; however, this particular project was beyond convoluted.  Issues concerning sizes, availability, e-commerce, and shipping all culminated at once leading me to believe that I would never make the story.  After a ton of effort (and a lot of asking for favors), the issue finally hit stands, and there our rash guard was, in full color, smack dab in the middle of the page.  I immediately scanned it and emailed it to my mom.

2. I’ve been to the Roxy Chicken Jam at Mammoth Mountain twice now, and they both tie for making me feel as though my name should be “Awesome Ashton”.   Working in the PR department, I was so incredibly lucky enough to act as the ‘on-site’ publicist for some major musical acts that were performing at our snowboarding contest.  The first year, I got to meet, hang out with, and set up interviews for the Silversun Pickups and Alberta Cross.  Year two, it was the same story with Santigold and The Cold War Kids.
3.By far the most defining moment was when I changed the water cooler by myself.  Those things are heavy!  … Okay, that didn’t really happen. There’s no way I could lift that on my own!
Style Icon/Style Inspiration: 

I don’t particularly look to particular celebrities for my style cues.  Instead, I find inspiration from art.
I like to mix and match shapes and colors that are unexpected.
I find it makes dressing yourself more interesting that way.
Fav Part of Working for ROXY: 

Working for an active lifestyle apparel brand definitely has it’s perks.  The people here are awesome and there’s always a fun vibe radiating from inside the building.  Plus, I get to wear flip flops.

Go-To Fashion Item or Outfit Right Now:

I’ve been pretty engrossed with my over-the-knee black leg warmers.  Paired with an edgy dress or bright shorts… I’m all about them. I also can’t deny that Nylon magazine (even Nylon Guys) always sparks new ideas within me.

Advice to Readers:

“Wear sunscreen”. No, wait, that’s a song from 1998. I’ll try to attack the “career” advice.  As cliché and grandiose as it sounds, work hard and do something you love.  Now for more specific advice:  I’d say networking is the most important thing someone can do at any point in their career.  A lot of opportunities present themselves through people you know.  I believe internships are important as well.

I thought of them this morning as I was checking out a few of my favorite blogs and noticed that PJS ARE BACK in a big way. This morning, Urban Outfitters released a new line of Betsey Johnson Pajamas and my personal style icon, Kate Moss, has a whole selection in her latest TopShop line.

Outside on the back deck we displayed our wetsuits for spring…you’ll be seeing lots of COLOR! Mustard vests, blue spring suits, and plum tops.

This is one of my favorite displays. I loved the bold, geometric shapes on this bikini. So cute!

We’ve been drinking soo much Gatorade on this tour!!! Especially perfect to drink after our yoga, pilates, and x-training classes in the sunshine.

Yakult has also been yummy to drink during this tour! A probiotic drink – very sweet and healthy. Comes in these cute, miniature bottles. Also one of our main ingredients in our Roxy smoothies…I’ll post our smoothie recipe at the end of the tour so that you can make it at home.

Roxy and Torri congratulate some USC dental students after they race through the obstacle course for a prize! They did it! And they have very straight, perfect smiles.
