Personally the Improv group at our school has to be one of the most funniest things I have ever seen.

If you know the games they're playing, skip the next paragraph :)

In the first picture they're playing is 'bucket of death' where one of them has to stick their head in a bucket of water while the scene carries on, somebody has to have their head in the bucket for whole scene but they can switch between people (so they don't drown obviously) and then there's the 'Oscar Moment' game where somebody says an award like "best love scene" and they have to add that into the scene they are currently doing, trust me it's hilarious when they're doing something and then an award completely unrelated comes up (ex. in an underwater laboratory and suddenly has to change to best love scene). The latter of the pictures is where they do a scene then they have to condense it into smaller and smaller amounts of time, called 'Halflife' (correct me if I'm wrong) :).

It's awesome to watch them do it live making up things as they go along :).

Ah wells, I actually forgot to post this blog and I was going to upload another one today so I'm sorry about that :p But I'm unfortunately doing stuff for the rest of the day now so I'll upload another post at school :)

Kk, laters :D

Rossie & Jossie

PS. I am sorry for the lack of Blogging :)

Gummy Replication

Hiiiiii!

Everybody loves sweeties/candy/gummy sweets/jube jubes (I think they're called), but especially when they're being used to make DNA. Just a little hint, our Laptop class is an awesome class.

As a lab, we were supposed to be doing some weird DNA making thing, but Connors (our awesome teacher) decided to make them from cocktail sticks and Jube Jubes or sweets as I call them (and the rest of the population of Scotland). They're supported by metal wire inside the licorice and then we just bent it into the Double Helix shape. It was good fun and Jossie was there as well so he was checking out the DNA strands.

I'll be Blogging more often now, a load of computer jobs came up so I had to get them done before I could go Blogging first. I'm not running out of things to Blog about, I just keep ending up having to do homework or computer work.

Anyways, I'll talk to you all later :)

Rossie & Jossie

PS. Some of the features in it are amazing like Windows Media Centre (yes I know this was in XP Media Centre and Vista) but it fits sooo nicely into this, have a look at the picture above, that's what it looks like on a 50inch plasma and it looks amazing, it performs excellently (with some lag for loading the folders which is not a big deal), and it is an excellent tool for presenting your media whatever it may be. Me and Jossie were sitting down playing around with it and found it amazing, it's also great for watching movies and slideshows for pictures. Jossie thought it would be a good idea to take some pics of it, hence the picture above.

Incase anybody was wondering, Windows 7 is an excellent operating system, it's based on Vista, without the flaws, it's awesome :D

PS. And to the post...

I'm a bit of a techy when it comes to tech, and I lately had a bit of a brush with somebody high up in my school. It's all been resolved now but the fact is that it was a bit of a pain in the ass. I had been accused of my Windows Media Player 12 (the one that comes with Windows 7) had been trying to access files within the school, and this particular person that was high up did not have the right education in computers (I'll be blogging about the lack of computer education later) to be commenting on this problem especially since she was saying that it was "acting" like Limewire within the school (if somebody can get WMP to "act" like Limewire then please inform me cause I've never heard of that in my life). What was actually happening is that within Windows 7 (and Vista actually) it was sending out a signal within the schools network to all the computers that had their computers to allow media to be received through their computers). So everytime I would boot up my computer they would get a message saying "Ross would like to share his media library with you". This was only people accepting these invites would get them. You can draw your own conclusion on whether I was in the wrong or she was for having her settings set to allow invites like that, within a school that just went through an attack crashing the entire network.

But what I was annoyed me most was when I asked somebody to take a screenshot of the problem so I could actually fix it, they just gave me a blank look as to say "Screenshot, what's that?" so I gave up and one of my teachers who gave me some advice on what to do with my computer and also spoke with the one high up so that's how it was resolved.

I had also noted something else to do with network security, while reading BBC News Technology I came across this post, it's a report about something to do with Twitter being used in US courts "preventing the course of justice". What caught my eye when I opened up the link was the picture on the right:

That browser that it's showing is Internet Explorer (IE) 6 which is the one that came with Windows XP. Now the latest version out is IE 8 which came out of beta earlier this week. Now you would think that such a big news corporation would use an image that showed the latest, safest browser out there, instead it shows the oldest IE browser available for Windows XP. BBC News Technology really isn't a good site to keep up to date with technology, use something like Engadget, Gizmodo or Gadgeteer for reviews on technology. BBC News Technology gives a dulled down version of the stories, and most of the stories are 3-4 days old.

Anyways, just felt I thought I'd share my tech annoyances :)

Rossie & Jossie

PS. The reason I haven't being blogging lately is cause I have the flu, and when I'm coming home from school, I'm falling to sleep instead of blogging :p.

Breakdancing... dawg!

Yo! But I was stuck at school on Friday while waiting for my mum to pick me up and Jeanie told me about this breakdancing club thing that was going on and decided to go watch. And it's some pretty cool stuff. Jossie was there as well, but he was complaining cause the lighting was bad so he couldn't see them breakdance very well. Ah wells, I'm sure he'll live. About 350km off the coast of Newfoundland at 9am on Thursday morning, a Cougar owned Sikorsky S-92 helicopter crashed into the Atlantic Ocean after a technical problem rumored to be an oil leak. Only one of the 18 on board the flight survived. The chopper had been doing a routine flight between rigs out on the White Rose field when it announced a mayday turned around and then 60km later crashed into the ocean.

The Transportation Safety Board were searching for the bodies for more than 40 hours, when their survival suits were expected to keep them alive 30 hours. They sent a couple of ROV's down to the helicopter yesterday and have confirmed that they have found the rest of the bodies still in the fuselage. They will be lifting the chopper up at later date after they found out that it hadn't sunk in one piece but had been badly damaged with the impact of hitting the water. The following list is the list released by the RCMP of the bodies confirmed to have have been on that flight and perished:

Tim Lanouette, 48, Comox, B.C., the first officer on the helicopter.
Peter Breen, 55, St. John's.
Gary Corbett, 46, Conception Bay South.
Wade Drake, 42, Fortune.
Wade Duggan, 32, Witless Bay.
Colin Henley, 38, St. John's.
Ken MacRae, 47, Greenwood, N.S.
Derrick Mullowney, 51, Bay Bulls.
Burch Nash, 44, Fortune.
Paul Pike, 49, Spaniard's Bay.
Allison Maher, 26, Mount Pearl, formerly of Aquaforte.
Thomas Anwyll, 46, Langley, B.C.

I decided to blog about this as my entire family is in the oil industry so it was the talk amongst us since it happened and still is.

My thoughts go out to all the families affected by the tragedy.

Rossie & Jossie

RSS Change

Sup!

Well, I'm studying biology, hence the lack of Blogging. But thanks for checking back anyways :). So the point of this post is that I've changed my RSS feed so if you didn't get this through your RSS feed, just subscribe again and delete the old one :) To Subscribe, there's a button up top called "RSS" click that and add it to wherever :). Or I'm sure you know of other ways, like in Firefox, there's an RSS button on the Address Bar, does the same thing as my button on this page :P.

Here's the link to add it straight from here: RSS

Laters

Rossie & Jossie

Fire at leave

<img src='http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_LkxAVypk2iQ/SbV5DVrjNvI/AAAAAAAAADA/KCssH6A1Ho8/s400/IMG_7744.JPG' border='0' alt=''style='clear:both;float:center; margin:0px 10px 10px 0;' />
<img src='http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_LkxAVypk2iQ/SbV5DlD5vnI/AAAAAAAAADI/zXyDSH7_QOw/s400/IMG_7750.JPG' border='0' alt=''style='clear:both;float:center; margin:0px 10px 10px 0;' />
<img src='http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_LkxAVypk2iQ/SbV5D5O6LXI/AAAAAAAAADQ/GIqAJl_llis/s400/IMG_7762.JPG' border='0' alt=''style='clear:both;float:center; margin:0px 10px 10px 0;' />
<img src='http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_LkxAVypk2iQ/SbV5EXHx20I/AAAAAAAAADY/Vj5gnKchCFw/s400/IMG_7759.JPG' border='0' alt=''style='clear:both;float:center; margin:0px 10px 10px 0;' />

Heyo

My schoolbus came up the hill last week, and we came into a patch of fog just at my stop, so I got out, and the fog was patchy but it seemed to only be around the estate I lived in. Kept walking down none the wiser, and seen the building just across the road to the right where their building a new house. They had lit a fire on the ground, so I thought "hm.. probably shouldn't be at that" but anyways, I left it and went into the house. It's what was causing the 'fog'. I thought of showing Jossie at that point but didn't think it was of importance to show him.

About 3-4 hours later, when they were all gone from the building site, they had left the fire burning just as it was from when I got home, keep in mind that Canada is covered in trees and all the houses on the estate (probably about 95% of them in Newfoundland) are made of wood. So we called the fire brigade and put out the fire as well, and luckily my dad knows the owner of the house. So he informed them, and showed them the above pictures. The careless contractor should of got a harsh word if the owners did the right thing. I had also showed Jossie the fire when we called the fire brigade, and he was fair intrigued by it and watched the fire until the fire crews had gone and put the fire out.

The next morning the pillar in the corner of the house was scorched black, that's what they get for leaving an open fire with plenty of fuel around, unattended. As much as I love some people being laid back while working, that's a little too laid back for my liking.

Rossie & Jossie

PS. Even though there is an acre between each house, there's still a fair amount of trees.

"Geography Is Awesome!"

<img src='http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_LkxAVypk2iQ/SbB1AcJ9fWI/AAAAAAAAAA8/pNyl6PHhNnk/s400/IMG_7733.JPG' border='0' alt=''style='clear:both;float:middle; margin:0px 10px 10px 0;' />
That's what it said on front of the shirt that I won at yesterdays Geography trip to the INCO Innovation Center at Memorial University. So it was vaguely interesting but we were pretty much going over how to use Google Earth and how to use some poorly created mapping program, where the data is from 1996 and every time you made a movement accross this 'colourful' map, it would refresh. The program is called 'ArcExplorer - Java Edition for Education'.

I think what they were trying to get onto us about was that it was something called 'GIS day' (Geographical Information System) and they took some people from each geography class and took us to the INCO Innovation Center to learn about these GIS programs, including ArcExplorer and Google Earth. There was a few guys there teaching us, and one of them asked some of us to go outside with him to check out how GPS works, so the only thing that was interesting was I found out that there 32 satellites in the sky, but there's 24 working at any given time.

Laters

Rossie & Jossie

PS. The question I had to answer was, "what is a GPS used for?" so don't start thinking I said some techy answer (which I thought I would), about it calculating your latitude and longitude using numerous satellites, but I simply said "it tells you where you are", and got the shirt that I later gave to a friend as it didn't fit me :)

Oedipus meets vegetables!

Yelloo!

Ok, so I had planned on blogging more often, but I have a lot of tests and homework until next Tuesday, so I decided to squeeze this in while doing a physics assignment.

Anyways, so I was looking around YouTube for some footage for a project I'm doing on Oedipus the play. And I stumbled across this little beauty, I'm trying so hard to fit it into my project, but my topic I chose was about the theaters themselves.
