In this series of simple how-to's, let's look at how to set up a free blog.

Blogging is a lucrative source of profit and blogs are easy to set up and maintain. Imagine a life where you are paid to write on stuff that interests you, whenever you want, wherever you are. The mere flexibility of blogging makes it easy for you to just kick back, relax and go on a vacation whenever you feel like it.

In this article, we are going to look into the profitability of a blog and set up a blog of our own at no cost! Interested? Read on!

First, we need to obtain a blog. There are several options – host a blog on your own domain or get a free blog.
For starters, let’s talk about the free blogs. You can obtain a free blog at www.blogger.com or the newer, www.wordpress.com. If you are a techie, Wordpress is a free blog engine that is robust and infinitely expandable.

Blogger.com is owned by Google, so it will be detected on Google’s radar faster and you will be indexed faster.

Get a free blog at either Blogger.com (http://www.blogger.com/) or Wordpress (http://wordpress.com/signup/). Then, familiarize yourself by posting your first post on your blog and tinkering around with the options and templates.

Here are a few common “blog-related” words to help you out:

1) Permalink – Permalink stands for permanent link, which is a URL (uniform resource locator) that leads to an individual post that you make in your blog.
2) Trackback – When you post about someone else’s blog post elsewhere, your post will show up in their “trackback” section.
3) Pinging – Blogging seems to be paired with pinging almost every time either one is mentioned nowadays. Pinging is actually the action where a certain aggregator is notified whenever your blog is updated, so that the aggregator may show the newest post of your blog on their website. This is a useful way to gaining traffic.

Do you need Autoresponders? Freebie trial or Paid Account? Which is Best?

When it comes to marketing your products online, it is a known fact that before you try and sell anything, you need to learn how to build a list of prospects to market to. Your list is the most important factor in determining if your business is going to last. Your list is what will generate sales for you automatically throughout the year, 24 hours a day.

In order to build your list, you need an autoresponder account with a reputable, established autoresponder company . The question here is if using a free autoresponder account (as opposed to paid) will be an advantage or a hindrance to your business.

Let me explain the 2 main differences and what you should look out for when deciding between a paid account and a free account.

1. In a free account, your messages will most likely be plastered with advertising that gives no monetary benefit to you, while taking up valuable space in your outgoing messages. Your paid account should have zero outside advertising, giving you the entire message to use for your marketing.

2. A free autoresponder account may not give you the ability to export (download) your leads so you can import them into a different system in the future. ie. you have no control over the leads you’ve worked so hard to collect. With your paid account you would be able to export your list whenever you like, giving you the freedom to use your leads as you see fit.

It’s quite obvious (at least to me) that if you’re serious about building your list, and building your online business, you need to have complete control over your leads and prospects. If you decide on a free autoresponder account you will get to the point where you’ll need to move your list for whatever reason. If your autoresponder company does not give you control of your leads, you’ll have to start from scratch in building your list all over again from your new system. This could easily put you behind by months (or even years) in your marketing efforts.

So in conclusion, there are many things wrong with starting with a free autoresponder account, and doing so will only cause you pain and inconvenience down the road.

Solution? Get a paid account with a solid reputable provider.

TWITTER+WORLD MALARIA DAY

To Celebrate World Malaria Day on 25th April, I am launching my "Little Person's Appeal" to all Twitter users and like minded individual's to join me by donating any amount that will help me educate and assist with first-line knowledge in the villages for prevention and treatment of Malaria.

I am no Ashton Kutcher, or CNN Breaking News, but as a Little Person, I would like to make an impact.
Malaria is both Curable and Preventable.
On their website, WHO states that "Malaria control requires an integrated approach comprising prevention and treatment with effective antimalarials. Access to prompt, effective treatment is a key element of the Roll Back Malaria Strategy. It is vital that diagnosis(recognition) and treatment with effective antimalarials starts within 24hrs of the onset of the symptoms to prevent progression to severe disease or death"[Source:WHO website].(my italics).

Myth - DIAGNOSIS
When my daughter was 9months old, she developed an unusually high fever, would cry uncontrollably and just plain would not feed. Visits to her paediatrician elicited a prescription for Calpol(paracetamol) and a just-in-case antibiotic as her doctor took her samples to the lab for diagnosis.
Nothing happened! The fever remained high for three days with no feeding except for the occasional desperate glucose mix before I returned to the doctor demanding an explanation.
By a "lucky" coincidence, I also showed the paediatician her swollen arm for diagnosis and BAM!! a quick malarial test showed a good load of parasites in her blood and she was promptly(?) treated.

How many mothers in my neck of the woods - Kenya - have access to this type of diagnosis no matter how delayed? It took my Paediatrician a stretch of the imagination to diagnose Malaria because we did not live in an endemic Malaria Zone. How many mothers lose there children because of a simple misdiagnosis?
In Kenya, we walk into the pharmacy and prescribe for ourselves whatever drug we think will cure, with the able? assistance of the Pharmacist because we simply cannot afford to pay a doctor and pay for the medicine. We treat as we see it regardless of the lack of medical knowledge on our part.

Malaria diagnostic kits should be available at every pharmacist/chemist and medical institution on the same level that HIV kits are.
Together with 1)treated nets, 2)a campaign to arm first-line medical personnel(including pharmacies) with sufficient knowledge to offer this 3)diagnostic tool and medication for free will in the long run help reduce unnecessary malaria deaths. It costs "too much" for the regular person to seek diagnosis and treatment, sometimes until they are at deaths door - that this strategy will surely be the best form of defense.

I have been watching with great interest the current race to get the most Twitter followers between CNN and Ashton Kutcher...and realized that this new "following" trend really is quite pointless beyond achieving the numbers ( Mine being 35 and counting, ofcourse I am a little green!).
The mosquito nets are a nice touch, but this part of the message seems to have been drowned by the race for numbers.

Basically, what this boils down to is what do you really want to achieve from tweeting?
The number of followers can be a great ego booster but is this really your end game...spending the better part of your online life retweeting and DMng others.

I have basically been looking for Twitter Followers who are in the same Online Marketing World as myself, and in the process gotten a few pluses along the way. I do avoid spammy types as they make it difficult to enjoy my twitter page.

Online tweets are a new way to boost my online marketing business as this is where my 'next meal' comes from, so despite the race for numbers, I wouldn't mind having that 1million goal if all I had to do was watch the followers following me.

After all, who wouldn't want more than 35 followers??

The Threat Of The Conficker Worm.

Well...just a few more hours to know whether I will have survived the threat of the Conficker Worm.
After all, after spending hours online surfing the traffic exchanges, I have probably been infected by the dormant program waiting for April 1st to unleash all it's fury.

In preparation, I have been cleaning out my comp of any sensitive information, but let's be honest, there is only so much you can do to prepare yourself.

Working online like I do, trying to eke out a living must be manna for any hacker who is curious to see which identities are just ripe for the picking - bank information, Social Security Numbers, and various other sensitive tidbits stored in your hard drive.

Being an Internet Newbie from the Developing World has its own special challenges...not knowing where to access safe information and so on.

If anyone out there knows a way one can safeguard themselves online, I would really love to know, so please reply to my post and let me know soon.
