八戸に来る度に、HOCで必ずフルーツを買ってから仕事に行きます！
今日もいつもの売り場で珍しいリンゴがあったので、買ってみました。
聞いたら、五所川原リンゴと呼ばれますが、たべたことはありますか？
酸っぱいけど、甘味もあります！

My son went out the door yesterday morning saying that "It smells like winter". There were only 10 degrees.

Well the media is talking about it, it is all over the internet, should we worry?
From what the authorities and other sources(http://globalnation.inquirer.net...)are saying, there is no need to worry. Others(日本語） are saying that reactor no. 3 is causing a few problems...

A friend told me about this website a few years ago and their recommending to consume foods that contain high levels of natural iodine like Kelp, Nori, Kombu and Sea Spaghetti.

So much information out there!

At the moment I am waiting for tomorrow to come to see if a truck can be found so OGA for Aid can take all the clothing, food and other supplies from Aomori to Minami San Riku Mati(南三陸町）. This city is one of the cities that has been seriously damaged by the tsunami.

Japan Earthquake and Tunami- HOW TO HELP!

I have just finished cutting the 3rd round of noodles when the building started to shake. Got out of the room and entered the restaurant where one of the chefs was holding the plates that were about to fall off the table in the kitchen. The restaurant was shaking louder and violently every second.
“Let’s go out” I said to him and we ran out the back door.
We were standing outside the restaurant facing the rice field behind the restaurant. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. The ground was moving randomly, similar to a sea. Imagine holding a sheet of paper covered with sand and shaking the sheet of paper randomly. This is how the rice field looked like for about 1 minute.
I was asking myself if this is true, if everyone is ok, if the buildings where my friends and relatives are will hold until they will be out.
The ground was moving and moving. The building across the rice field was shaking louder and louder. The cars behind us in the parking were dancing like lowrider cars. It was difficult to stand.

The first earthquake continued for about 5 minutes. I was holding the phone in my hand and I was trying to call my wife. Her phone was ringing but couldn’t get in touch with her.
The ground was still moving and we decided to go back inside the restaurant. Plates, soup, miso, eggs, meat, and many other goods were on kitchen’s floor. We were all shocked and looking at the buildings that were still moving slowly when, another strong earthquake stroke! And another one! This continued for another one hour and a half.
We closed the restaurant and after doing some brief cleaning we decided to go home.
The traffic was jammed and I was supposed to drive almost 100 km to arrive home. The Highways were closed and the cross lights were not in service.

Driving home was quite scary since all the lights in the cities I was going through were not working; dark everywhere. The cross lights were not working but everyone was paying attention at intersections.

Some convenience stores located among the road where still opened and selling goods to customers. I entered one myself to buy some water, snacks and batteries. It was dark and the staff was kind to hand me a flashlight.
In the morning I had to fill my car’s gasoline tank, so I wasn’t worried about it now. Just a few gasoline stands were still on duty and at each station there were 10 to 20 cars waiting in line.

Driving home, I was listening to NHK radio and BBC and couldn’t believe what I was listening to.
Still trying to get in touch with family...

The phone lines were busy because of the earthquake. After a while I heard on the radio that the public phones were free of use in Tohoku area. The prime minister asked the population to stay calm and go on higher grounds to protect themselves from the tsunami that was announced to hit the east coast of Japan. Driving through the 3.1 km tunnel on Mitinoku Road was pretty scary, considering that another earthquake might strike any moment.

Finally arrived home and for a few moments I forgot everything that happened today. We spent the night around an AM/FM radio flashlight. Had a hot soup and some snacks and went to bed. Two small earthquakes woke me up until the morning.

The next day, first thing in the morning I was driving through the town looking for opened convenience stores. Found one and it took me about 45 minutes to enter. Bought some water, soups, snacks but batteries were sold out.
At nine o clock I went to a local home center to buy batteries and was surprised to see a 50 meter long line with people waiting to enter the store. I bought some batteries, candles and a flashlight.

This afternoon around 17:00 electricity was back and we were finally able to see on TV what happened throughout Japan yesterday. I am still watching NHK right now and I can’t believe that disasters like the ones in cities like Miyako（宮古市）, Kesennuma（気仙沼市）, Kamaishi（釜石市） or Rikuzen Takata（陸前高田） REALLY happened.
A few hours ago there was an explosion at the atomic power plant in Fukushima…
In the last 3 hours 4 small earthquakes were felt all over Tohoku area…

Hope that this situation will end soon…

札幌の友達が６か月ぶりに青森に遊びに来て、八甲田でスノーボードやったり、温泉「深沢温泉＆日陰温泉」に入ったり、久々に皆で食事をしたり、楽しい時間あっという間だ。

最近の青森は見るたびに良くなっています。
久しぶりに青森駅に行ったら、「ワ・ラッセ」や「A-Factory」や雪まつりや後ろに
ライトアップされてる「ベイブリッジ」と「八甲田丸」に関心しました！

"There was a time when the Sun used to take the shape of a young man and descend on Earth to dance among the people. A dragon found out about this and followed the Sun on Earth, captured him and confined him in a dungeon in his castle. Every March 1 men offer this amulet called Mărţişor to the women they love. The red color symbolizes love for all that is beautiful and also the blood of the brave young man, while white represents purity, good health and the snowdrop, the first flower of spring"

Typhoon No. 18- Volendam cancels stop in Yokohama

Opened the Tv and was surprised to see that the news about Taifoon No. 18 are presented on all channels. At the moment it seems that the taifoon left Tokyo area and is heading towards the North.

On October the 6th, Volendam, the holland cruise ship coming from Canada and heading for Australia, had to cancel its stop in Yokohama because of the coming taifoon.

On this day I was asked to help as an interpreter, helping the customers from the ship and the local authorities. It was a full day filled with a lot of talking, meeting many nice people coming from all over the world.
During the departure Aomori Nebuta participants and children from a local kindergarten playing the drums, wished Volendam farewell.

Hoping that this taifoon will be a calm one!

気温は6度
風はあんまり降っていない

車一台を山の反対側に置いて、朝6時ぐらいに皆さんと酸ケ湯の上の駐車場で会いました。
準備は頑張ってして来たんですか、他の人の準備を見って、勉強になりました。

ズボンと靴は濡れないようにのガードとか、山の頂上でラメンを食べるような準備とか...
出発してから3時間ぐらい後に大岳（1584m）に付きました。

風邪は14m/ｓ、頭のすぐ上で早く早く走る曇り...寒いですがー気持ち！
登場までの上りは長かったんですが、紅葉を見ながら、箒場までの降り道は6時間ぐらいかかりました。

八甲田大岳の頂上で撮ったビデオです

9時間で12km　歩いて、八甲田の紅葉を見って、友達と楽しい登山していい一日でした。

Sasuke 2009

Every year more than 100 candidates attend to complete a four stage competiton called Sasuke (japanese). They are challenged to finish every stage using their body strenght. They need to jump, reach on different things, hold tight to things, cliffhang, run, in order to finish the stage. All 4 stages are different and are getting difficult to finish stage by stage.

I am always looking forward to watching Sasuke every year. Today I came home late and the show already started. Grabed a cup of tea, some snacks and while watching the TV, I was holding tight the cup of tea in one hand. With the other hand I was nervously eating the snacks.

Makoto Nagano (japanese), the ninja warrior of Sasuke made it up to the 4th stage again. He managed to finish the 4th stage during the 17th edition of Sasuke. This year, Nagano Makoto and a 24 years old competitor made it up to the the 4th stage.

Inakadate Rice Field Art 2009

Today I managed to go to Inakadate village and see the rice field art.The drawings on the rice field are created by planting various types of rice. Planting the rice field starts in late April and the drawings become more visible every month. The peak is in September.

Volunteers are helping at planting the rise and on the 4th of October they help at the crop.
Visitors take an elevator situated in a nearby building that looks like an old castle, to the 5th floor, then walk the stairs up to the 7th floor. From there visitors are able to see the drawings.

This year a Sengoku warrior and Napoleon were the two main characters.

Trip to Tokyo

Rushing on the streets in Roppongi, trying to find the right trains in all the crowded stations, searching for cool places remembered me of the never changing, busy, hot and crowded at every time of the day, Tokyo.

In the evening we had dinner at Darie, the romanian restaurant in Ginza( feedbacks with photos). It was as delicious as the last time I visited it!

I might go to Tokyo again soon. What recommandations do you have? Restaurants? Clubs?
