Having grown up in America in the late 20th century, it's pretty hard to escape the enormity of this problem, and my own complicity (however unknowingly) in it. As I get older, I really want to be a part of the solution, even while I know my practices both as a producer and consumer of goods are part of the problem.

Part of our goal here at RockPaperSoul is to find ways to minimize the negative impact of making printed goods. Recycling and Green production of consumer goods is part of it, smart use of electronic media is another. These days, as I work at my new job, simultaneously working on models for different businesses I'm building, I want to do my part to slow and reverse the damage that modern lifestyles have inflicted on the ecosphere. Hopefully, it can be done without totally destroying our "way of life" in the process!

I'm not a particularly healthy eater, but like many people, I'm looking to do better, especially since we had our daughter. I think this will help me. Hopefully, you'll find it useful too! Invitations to Marley's 2nd BEE-day Party

We are gearing up to celebrate our daughter Marley's 2nd borniversary, and that includes making invitations to the party!
She was born on September 9th, but we will wait until Saturday the 11th to throw the party! This is the web version of the invite, so it doesn't have our home address and phone number on it (we're kinda crazy, but not THAT crazy!). If you want to contribute to the BEE-Day festivities, just let us know! we are super-thankful for all our friends, in the regular world and the virtual one!
There will also be little stickers, games and other printed stuff to fit the motif. Eventually, we will offer similar packages of fun stuff to our customers... We get happy just thinking about it! anyways, hope you like the artwork!

In Pursuit of a Green Planet

I recently got an email from hip hop activist Keith Tucker about a documentary he's working on about the intersection of hip hop culture and green living.
"Pursuit of a Green Planet is a documentary film project that looks at the intersection of Hip Hop and the Green Movement through an exploration of food and health issues in poor and urban communities. The film focuses on Keith Tucker, a regular guy who will become a living experiment as he makes the radical transition from your average American diet and lifestyle to a truly green, organic vegan lifestyle. He will be our guide on a journey of discovery as we learn how our food today actually makes us sick, the role corporations play in determining what we consume, the history of chemicals in our food chain, how our everyday eating habits can become deadly and what we can do to combat these realities. This will be an amazing opportunity for health professionals to study, evaluate and gain knowledge of the human body, particularly when it pertains to eating the various foods in our common American diet.

Picking up where Super Size Me left off, the film will answer the questions: What happens if you go all the way Green? What does it mean to go Green? If I shouldnt eat most of the food I am used to what should I eat? Will it taste good? Will I feel like I am missing out on something by eating green? What happens if you ate nothing but organic food? What benefits are there to eating and living organically? Picking up where shows like The Biggest Loser and Workout leave off, the film will illustrate how, through green living, you can not only lose weight, but fine tune your body to be the highly efficient machine it was designed to be.

One of the main goals is to get youth involved and interested in food and health issues through Hip Hop activism. Hip Hop is a cultural force that youth around the world understand and identify with. In our film we are using Hip Hop and its top vegetarian and vegan icons to deliver our message. "

Hey everybody! I just watched this great documentary called the Story of Stuff about the origins of American Consumerism, and how it effects the planet. Hopefully, you will find it as thought-provoking and entertaining as I did! This video helped remind me why we wanted to run a green company! It's not enough to make money if we make the world a worse place in the process... at least that's how WE see it!

our daughter Marley will turn one year old in september (9/9/09). we are commemorating the occasion with a birthday party and inviting people over to eat snacks, play games, and watch Marley smash up her birthday cake. i drew this drawing a few weeks ago of my little Bee Girl (the theme of the nursery is bumblebees), and will likely use it for the invitations and keepsakes from the party.

When my wife Charlene and I decided to get married, we weren't really able to find wedding invitations and favors that we felt were targeted to us. searching left us tired and frustrated. We were lucky that I had the illustration skills to create our own favors, thank you cards, etc that reflected our style, but we knew other people like us might not be so lucky, so we've decided to start a business together, and we want you along with us. we have decided WHAT we want to do, and WHO we want to do it for... the next step is deciding HOW we're going to do it! my wife is a professional researcher, so i expect we'll get it all figured out in no time flat! in the meantime, please subscribe to this blog's updates in whatever way you like, i'll keep you posted on our progress! and we welcome all kinds of feedback, whether comments, or email (use our cell numbers if you've got 'em!), or whatever as we hammer out our business plan!
