A cryogenic system is described for boring a small-diameter hole through various materials including rock, soil and stone. It employs a valveless technique in a borehead [3000] where cryogenic fluid [7] fills at least one pulsejet [3100] which has proximal [3001] and distal [3003] ends. The cryogenic fluid [7] is frozen into a plug [8] near the distal end [3003], acting as a valve. Cryogenic fluid [7] just distal to the frozen plug [8] is rapidly heated by thermal units [3510, 3530] causing it to become a rapidly-expanding gas bubble. The rapidly-expanding gas bubble forces any liquid [7] distal to the expanding gas out of the distal end [3003] of each pulsejet [3100] causing it to impact the material [I]. Rapidly repeating this process causes the system to bore a hole through the material [I].

“We use to find some funny stuff, like patent files up above ceiling tiles because the examiners didn’t feel like dealing with that file so if it was ‘lost’ it would take a while to put it back together and would stall (and probably cost the owner of the file a lot of money).”

Gov’t Contractor

We always knew stuff like that was happening. Patent application files would get lost – paper filings through the mail would often fail to get recorded. That causes complete chaos and patent attorneys freak out. During the paper filing days, it was especially troublesome. I envisioned my paper hitting the mailroom late on a Friday afternoon, and some mail clerk throwing the office action in the garbage because they didn’t want to deal with it.

When we (patent attorneys) file, we have these examples in the back of our heads, and make efforts to recover from a “lost” file or other office communication.

I knew it!

ABSTRACT:

A method and device for boring a hole through a material along a desired path includes an umbilical subsystem [2000] connected to a boring subsystem [3000] having a plurality of pulsejets [3100]. These pulsejets [3100] repeatedly receive and ignite a combustible fluid [7] in a combustion chamber [3230] causing a portion of the fluid [7] to be forced out of a nozzle [3260] at high speeds as a fluid slug [10] that impacts materials ahead of the pulsejet [3100].

See, they’re McDonald’s… I’m McDowell’s. They got the Golden Arches, mine is the Golden Arcs. They got the Big Mac, I got the Big Mick. We both got two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions, but their buns have sesame seeds. My buns have no seeds.

Recent Trademark Cases in the Eastern District in Allentown

On October 26, 2009, a complaint for trademark infringement and unfair competition was filed by Tilted Kilt Franchise, LLC in the Allentown Office seeking a preliminary and permanent injunction and damages for use of the trademark TILTED KILT. The Complaint (hyperlink to attached file) states the plaintiff is a franchise company for Tilted Kilt Pubs and defendant operates a pub named The Tilted Kilt in Mount Joy PA. If you are going to build a franchise on a trademark and then license franchisees to use that mark, you must enforce your trademark rights or your franchise has little value.
