EXCELLENCE IN ALL THINGS...

For me there's nothing greater than striving to be the best I can be...
leaving whatever I touch just a little better...signing it with excellence!

And why not? It only takes a little more effort "to walk that extra
mile" and deliver everything in my life as if it were a present.

Life is a gift and I'm grateful for what I receive each day.

I know it sounds 'hokey' and there are those who think showing appreciation and gratitude is old school nonsense...but when I look around and see the world we are creating I can't help but ask myself, what is it that I can do to make a difference?

Obviously, what I do is not going to change the world. But maybe my actions and attitude can motivate or inspire just one other person to model the positive behavior I've found to work so well in my own life.

As Gandhi said: "Be the change you wish to see in the world." With that I am hopeful that many more will join me in genuinely expressing appreciation and gratitude and that this 'simple idea' gains enough traction to help change the world.

Chemists with the University of Texas and the University of Marburg have devised a method of using a small electrical field that will remove the salt from seawater.

Incredibly this technique requires little more than a store-bought battery.

Called electrochemically mediated seawater desalination (EMSD) this technique has improved upon the current water desalination method.

Richard Cooks, chemistry professor at the University of Austin said : “The availability of water for drinking and crop irrigation is one of the most basic requirements for maintaining and improving human health.”

Cooks continued: “Seawater desalination is one way to address this need, but most current methods for desalinating water rely on expensive and easily contaminated membranes. The membrane-free method we’ve developed still needs to be refined and scaled up, but if we can succeed at that, then one day it might be possible to provide fresh water on a massive scale using a simple, even portable, system.”

Kyle Krust, lead author of the study said: “We’ve made comparable performance improvements while developing other applications based on the formation of an ion depletion zone. That suggests that 99 percent desalination is not beyond our reach.”

This “water chip” method “could bring relief to millions around the globe who lack potable water.”

This method “is much simpler and consumes less energy than other forms of desalination.”

Crooks explained : “To achieve desalination, the researchers apply a small voltage (3.0 volts) to a plastic chip filled with seawater. The chip contains a microchannel with two branches. At the junction of the channel an embedded electrode neutralizes some of the chloride ions in seawater to create an ‘ion depletion zone’ that increases the local electric field compared with the rest of the channel. This change in the electric field is sufficient to redirect salts into one branch, allowing desalinated water to pass through the other branch.”

The Ion depletion zone prevents salt from passing through which creates fresh water out of salt water.

An estimated 780 million people across the globe do not have access to drinkable water. Of those estimated, 345 million reside in Africa.

There is an estimated 366 million, trillion gallons of water on planet Earth. That number appears to be fixed, according to UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Council of the International Hydrological Program (HIP).

The HIP are a UN program system devoted to researching and finding natural water resources and managing those resources found. While the UN is well aware that the necessity of water as a vital source for life means the retention of power over all life, they are well into their schemes to develop global governance over all sources of fresh, clean water.

The IPCC document HS 15332 Climate Change Impacts: Securitization of Water, Food, Soil, Health, Energy and Migration explains how the UN plans to secure resources to use at their disposal.

Through the International Monetary Fund (IMF) under-developed countries are forced to sell their resources to the global Elite as “full cost recovery” to the global central bankers.

Once those resources are under the complete control of the IMF they become assets to be reallocated back to the enslaved nations for a price.

This scheme makes water sources under central privatization cost more and become less accessible to those who desperately need it. Water prices rise while the quality of it diminishes.

This forces natives in places like South Africa and India to collect water from polluted streams and rivers, which compromises their health. The cycle in complete when those who had their water stolen from them through coercion die from contaminated water that they were forced to use.

At the High-Level International Conference on Water Cooperation (ICWC) conference

, entitled “Water in the Anthropocene” states that humanity’s impact on freshwater resources were assessed and it was determined

that a 3rd of the estimated 7 billion people on earth have limited access to clean water.

Millions if individual local humans affect the regional, continental and global water cycles which facilitates a drastic shortage and untold damage of aquatic ecosystems.

The document stated: “In the short span of one or two generations, the majority of the nine billion people on Earth will be living under the handicap of severe pressure on fresh water.”

Human populations utilize water resources the equivalent of the size of South Africa to tend to the needs of crops. Another Africa-sized amount of water is used on the care of livestock.

Fresh water makes up 2.5% of the total water supplies across the planet. It is estimated that 70% of it is snow and ice-pack.

The document says that because of the impact of man on the planet, the earth’s chemistry and climate have been altered which has evidenced itself in the measureable hydrological cycles of the planet.

This obviously unsustainable course is causing the contamination of our fresh water supply.

UN-Water, a non-governmental organization (NGO), controlled by UNESCO, published the 4th edition of the UN World Water Development Report (WWDR4) in 2012.

In this report, the world’s freshwater resources were analyzed. Internationally controlled infrastructure was recommended to save those resources from being depleted.

Research data shows that nearly 1 billion people are using finite water resources. Therein lay a portion of the problem.

You Deserve To Be Happy at Work

On Monday, I published an article on a fairly controversial topic --You Will Never Find Work/Life Balance. So many of us have grown up trying to perfectly split our time at the office and outside it with friends and family. It's an impossibility. So, I suggested that we should forget about it and focus on "sustainable happiness" instead.

Life is work, and work is life. They cannot be separated since we toil for everything that is meaningful to us -- including our relationships with those we love. Everything worth having in life involves work.

When I finished writing the article, I was proud of it. I believed that it was true to my beliefs and what I have aspired to achieve as the CEO of Aha! I also acknowledged that each of us has our own struggles and not everyone is in a position to pursue happiness every day.

Over 70,000 people read the post and more than 270 commented. About 70% of people shared my perspective that it's time to change the conversation. But some did not, and I appreciated what they had to say. The following comments are representative of the counter points that were typically shared:

One cannot be sustainably happy if they are worked to death. Unless one is a workaholic and gets sole enjoyment out of life from their work.

Personally, work/life balance is a legitimate concept if you do not have control over your current career...I guess I am saying that this concept makes sense to someone who can choose the career they enjoy doing. But many out there aren't afforded that luxury.

If you are reading this, there is a good chance you are at work. It's likely that you have felt stress this week, performed a task that you did not enjoy, and helped someone who annoys you. Some people might even believe that that they are "being worked to death" by a cruel boss.

It's true that there are nasty employers. That's obvious. But even if you are unhappy at work, only you can change your direction unless you are going to bet on luck to save you. You do have control and you have a few choices as you look ahead:

Accept it
It's true that not everyone can change their professional circumstances exactly when they want to. It's equally true that some would rather just not try. If you're unhappy at work and choose not to apply for new roles or improve your current role, try to reset your expectations. Sustainable happiness is earned through hard work. If you're unwilling to actively pursue it, then positive change is unlikely to occur and it might be best to stop expecting it to.

Change it
If you're unhappy at work, look deeply at the situation. Who or what is making you miserable? Once you identify the root of the problem, you can take specific steps to solve it. Maybe you have a great manager, but your current responsibilities are not stimulating enough. Together, you can design a career path that works towards a different role that aligns with your interests.

Leave it
You can always do your best -- but you can not always change other people. If you have done what you can to accept or change your situation and are still unhappy, then it really is best to move on. It's OK to leave a role that makes you feel unfulfilled for a job that better fits your purpose. You may not be the CEO of your company, but you can take control of your own happiness.

You have the right to be happy and work for an employer who cares about your well-being. If this isn't your reality, then it's up to you to go find it.

You have the chance to sustain your own happiness regardless of whether you are at home or in the office. The key is to realize that you have more power than you might think and that happiness is something you need to work for.

My wake-up call. On the morning of 6 April, 2007, I was lying on the floor of my home office in a pool of blood. On my way down, my head had hit the corner of my desk, cutting my eye and breaking my cheekbone. I had collapsed from exhaustion and lack of sleep. In the wake of my collapse, I found myself going from doctor to doctor, from brain MRI to CAT scan to echocardiogram, to find out whether there was any underlying medical problem beyond exhaustion. There wasn’t, but doctors’ waiting rooms, it turns out, were good places for me to ask myself a lot of questions about the kind of life I was living.

Definitions of success. We founded The Huffington Post in 2005, and two years in we were growing at an incredible pace. I was on the cover of magazines and had been chosen by Time as one of the world’s 100 most influential people. But after my fall, I had to ask myself, was this what success looked like? Was this the life I wanted? I was working 18 hours a day, seven days a week, trying to build a business, expand our coverage, and bring in investors. But my life, I realised, was out of control. In terms of the traditional measures of success, which focus on money and power, I was very successful. But I was not living a successful life by any sane definition of success. I knew something had to radically change. I could not go on that way.

What is a good life? It’s a question that has been asked by philosophers going back to the Ancient Greeks. But somewhere along the line, we abandoned the question and shifted our attention to how much money we can make, how big a house we can buy and how high we can climb up the career ladder. Those are legitimate questions, particularly at a time when women are still attempting to gain an equal seat at the table. But, as I painfully discovered, they are far from the only questions that matter in creating a successful life.

When I first heard about mindfulness, I was confused. My mind was already full enough, I thought – I needed to empty it, not focus on it. My conception of the mind was sort of like the household junk drawer – just keep cramming things in and hope it doesn’t jam. Then I read Jon Kabat-Zinn’s writings on mindfulness and it all made sense. "In Asian languages," he wrote, "the word for ‘mind’ and the word for ‘heart’ are the same word."

We are operating under a cultural delusion. One of the primary obstacles keeping many businesses from adopting more sane and sustainable metrics of success is the stubborn – and dangerously wrongheaded – myth that there is a trade-off between high performance at work and taking care of ourselves. This couldn’t be less true.

If we look at the Western workplace today, we see two very different and competing worlds. In one, we see a clear manifestation of burn-out disorder: a business culture single-mindedly obsessed with quarterly earnings reports, maximising short-term profits and beating growth expectations. In the other world, we see an increasing recognition of the effects workplace stress can have on the wellbeing of employees – and on a company’s bottom line. There is growing evidence that the long-term health of a company’s bottom line and the health of its employees are, in fact, very much aligned, and that when we treat them as separate, we pay a heavy price, both personally and collectively.

Now we’re at a tipping point. This has been the year when meditation and mindfulness finally stopped being seen as vaguely flaky, vaguely new age-y, definitely California, and fully entered the mainstream. It was also the year of chief executives coming out – not as being gay, but as being meditators.

Looking after our financial capital is not enough. We need to do everything we can to protect and nurture our human capital.

Our hyperconnectedness is the snake lurking in our digital Garden of Eden. One of the things that makes it harder and harder to connect with our wisdom is our increasing dependence on technology. Personally, I make sure I have my iPhone and BlackBerrys (yes, plural) charging far, far away from my bed, to help me avoid the middle-of-the-night temptation to check the latest news or emails.

Since my wake-up call, I’ve been living my life and career in a completely different way. Suddenly, I’m living out one of my favourite quotations, by Brian Andreas: "Everything changed the day she figured out there was exactly enough time for the important things in her life."

One of the biggest stories of the past 50 years has been the movement of women into the paid workforce in unprecedented numbers. The income mothers and wives bring home has changed how we live, what we buy, and improved our quality of life while men’s wages have remained largely flat.

It has also been a primary driver of the expanding American economy, as Janet Yellen, the first female Chair of the Federal Reserve, pointed out recently at a Women’s History Month celebration on Capitol Hill.

“Making fuller use of the talents and efforts of women in the workplace has made us more productive and prosperous,” she said.

For once, credit is being given to women for their power and effort as valuable economic actors. In spite of hostility, discrimination, and persistent barriers to equality and success, the steady flow of women into the labor force was the fuel that fired the engine of economic expansion.

Turning that wealth of talent and ability into paychecks and marketable output transforms our society, empowering women and benefiting the nation as a whole. However, we remain a very long way from realizing the full potential of this half of the population.

In the US alone, do mothers work without the benefit of a guaranteed paid maternity leave program. With few options, we can only hope our employer offers some paid time off, or we can quit, or drag ourselves right back to work.

Paid leave for fathers is even more rare, so few women can hand the baby off to Dad as they head back to work. Every time a job is interrupted, you lose the ground you’ve gained and cycle back in to start the climb again.

So women’s income remains blunted by caregiving, their families don’t see the lost earnings, and their potential is never fully maximized by the market. The inefficiency is obvious in the gap between the high percentage of female graduates and the low proportion of women in leadership of any field.

Women are better educated than ever before, and have been awarded more degrees, at every level, than men for years. While the reasons for this are varied, there is no doubt that had women fully realized their market potential, and achieved leadership representation on a par with their percentage of the population, the benefit to the economy would have been even more dramatic.

Imagine if equal pay was a reality, and childcare was readily available and affordable. Imagine if work could be harmoniously woven into the caregiving we do for our families. Imagine if women could fully utilize and be paid for all they know and can do.

Our failure to craft an infrastructure which permits these things is actually a lost opportunity of immense proportions, not to mention a threat to our global competitiveness.

Chair Yellen is fully aware of this. “I would hope that our nation continues to reap the benefits of greater participation by women in the economy and that we do everything that we can to foster that participation.”

A Whole New World...
If your career in life has not involved any form of marketing or selling, then to get involved in internet marketing is one hell of a giant leap. I was first introduced into internet marketing through an email that I received twice weekly. I kept seeing an advert for something called GoogleAds.

Now, at this point, all I used the internet for was either playing games or just browsing in general for any information that I needed on any subject matter under the sun. The advert said that all I needed to do to make any money was place adverts onto Google's search engine and people would buy products and I would receive a generous commission.

Simple ,I thought ,that is until you try it as an uneducated internet marketer. Since I already had experience in marketing I thought this would be a no brainer.

Big Surprise

I lost more money than I made, but this can be quite normal for the beginner. I accepted the fact that I had lost money but vowed to continue looking for something that I could do.

So, being curious about money making on the internet I decided to investigate further. I came across many money making opportunities that promise this that and the other, which I am sure a lot of you have seen yourselves. Anyway, after a while I found an offer that I thought I could try out and see what happens without losing an absolute fortune.

After starting a venture into internet marketing for the first time you will find yourself seemingly lost in a world of information.

There is so much to learn and so many ways to learn it

It takes time to learn what you need to know about internet marketing And I don't think that there are any real secrets, just techniques.

On the internet there are thousands of people trying to make money and they are all either making new products or looking for products to help themselves financially. There are endless programs and E-Books and ideas available that try to help you succeed in whatever money making business you are involved in.

I am not trying to promote anything here, I am just trying to say that when you go into internet marketing, take your time, learn, read, re-read, and learn again. Nothing is right if it is not right for you.

Never stop asking questions

If you don't fully understand something, keep asking questions until you do understand it or don't do it.

There is no easy answer for the beginner, it is just a matter of that person finding out what is right for them. I just hope that anybody who tries internet marketing for the first time takes my advice on board and succeeds.

The Power of Gratitude!

Have you noticed lately, the little things that bring positive energy into your life?

Like the neighbors, whom you haven’t seen in eons, all of the sudden paths cross at the grocery store and they hug you, as they are genuinely happy to see you?
Or the child of a perfect stranger that continues to look at you, smiling all the way as if he’s known you all his life?
How about a friend or relative that out of the blue calls you to say hello, and adds: “I miss you?”
And then, there’s this friend that for no apparent reason whatsoever, wants to know how you are, and offers to help you on whatever you’ve got going on, and really means it?
How about that $20.00 bill you found in your jean pocket, after it was washed!

All these are indicators that you are, or have trained yourself to be, a person of gratitude, a person….. with a grateful heart.

It’s so easy to get caught-up in the negativity of life. In fact, since childhood, most humans have been trained to look at what’s wrong with the world, and not at what all is right within themselves. It gets us into trouble each and every time.

Wouldn’t it be nice if you knew how to turn things around? Wouldn’t be nice if you knew how to stop judging and start loving? Wouldn’t it be nice if you had a magic wand that could turn your human frailties into human virtues, and your business into a money-making machine? Yes, wouldn’t it be nice!

The truth of the matter is that you CAN. It all starts with a small mindset shift:

“When you realize there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you.” -Lao Tzu

When life gets you down a bit, when money is not flowing to you as it used to, when health is not what it should be, when the love of your life leaves you, maybe for someone else, maybe to be with his maker, but leaves you nonetheless; when your kids are in trouble, when you need to face the music and you feel tired beyond belief and beyond your own reality, when every things seems to go on overwhelm mode, it is time, to seriously start counting your blessings.

Create a Gratitude Diary or Calendar and:

Commit to write to it every day. Even if just ONE word! i.e. House, Food, Roof, electricity, friends, pets, love, car, shoes, feet, legs, etc.
Anticipate new things you want to be grateful for. As examples: Upcoming wedding (even if you don’t have a boyfriend or girlfriend yet) or future children, or winter home in some exotic place. The list could be endless, as imagination has no limits.
Be grateful for your mistakes and the hard stuff in life. Without it, you would not be the person you are today.
Practice LOVING over JUDGING.
Express gratitude to those who serve you. Hospital workers, grocery store clerks, Starbucks team members, and the like.
Write a handwritten letter of gratitude to someone who has made a difference in your life. Perhaps a teacher, a clergy person, a coach, co-worker, mentor, your doctor or health care provider. Give yourself extra kudos if you hand-deliver it and read it out-loud to them! (Bring hankies!)
Write a letter to yourself for the awesome person that you are. Yes, you are!
Be very grateful for a force bigger than everything else. Look up to the sky and thank the Universe for all the beauty around you. For the full moons, and the early rays of sunshine, for the gentle streams, for the amazing oceans, and for the wild life that teaches us so much.

And this is how you begin a small shift of mindset thinking to create a grateful heart. You will see how things begin to change for you and those around you.

When speaking with difficult or unappreciative people, tell them you want to start a conversation by being thankful for just ONE thing, and let it run its course as one good thing will lead to another. Focus on the loving, not the judging, and by all means, continue to open your heart to bigger and better things to come. Expect the best, and you shall receive it.

No matter what: Always Be Grateful!

Two Horses:

Two Horses in a Field

Just up the road from my home is a field, with two horses in it. From a distance, each looks like every other horse. But if one stops the car, or is walking by, one will notice something quite amazing. Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is blind. His owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has made a good home for him. This alone is amazing.

Listening, one will hear the sound of a bell. Looking around for the source of the sound, one will see that it comes from the smaller horse in the field. Attached to her bridle is a small bell. It lets her blind friend know where she is, so he can follow her. As one stands and watches these two friends, one sees how she is always checking on him, and that he will listen for her bell and then slowly walk to where she is trusting that she will not lead him astray. Kinda like Mrs. Geezer.

Like the owner of these two horses, God does not throw us away just because we are not perfect or because we have problems or challenges. He watches over us and even brings others into our lives to help us when we are in need. Sometimes we are the blind horse being guided by the little ringing bell of those who God places in our lives. Other times we are the guide horse, helping others to find their way. Good friends are like that... you may not always see them but you know they'll be there when you need them. The story of the Two Horses was written by one of my favorite authors...'Mr. Unknown' and was sent to me in an email.

Rich Beyond Any Measure…

We are rich beyond any measure of success.

In these times of economic turmoil, we have an opportunity to
dig deeper and see the truth of “who we really are…” view our

In the midst of so much bad news, there's a ray of light; a
tiny thread of courage and inspiration somehow manages to

weave its way thru the blackness and remind us there is hope

for a brighter tomorrow and that, most of all, we are indeed

rich beyond any measure.

For the 155 people who survived the U.S. Air plane crash
yesterday, it’s a day to give thanks and to celebrate.

It's Thanksgiving on January 16, 2009.

It’s a day to show our gratitude for the gifts that are
already present...a day to acknowledge triumph of
the human spirit; to overcome obstacles and to pull
together in times of trouble. In such moments we get
to glimpse something bigger than anyone of us.

Witness the silent humility of heroes who
put themselves at risk to help others.

These are the folks who remained calm and collected,
who made it possible for “everything to go right” when
it could just as easily have gone the other way. They did
their jobs...then disappeared.... retreating to the sidelines,
far away from the spotlight.

Beyond the ego driven mind...

This represents something beyond thought and the
ego driven mind. When we dig deeper, we find strength
and courage to be Larger than Life…to become real
examples of kindness and generosity that we are each
capable of. When all of us pull together in one direction,
we become living proof that we can do anything.

Challenges of a new day...

As we return to the business at hand and do the cleanup,
the richness of the moment will live on. We’ll count our
blessings and awaken to the challenges of a new day, hopefully
with a new perspective and the understanding that we are
never alone on this journey. We are each tiny threads in a
Larger Tapestry.

It’s not about competing but cooperating--not
about the money but about our collective purpose to
genuinely care about each other--as we learn to celebrate
our differences.

Our differences make us rich beyond any measure.
