Those of you who are old enough to have seen this on TV remember how awesome it was!  Imagine what the life of The (original) Karate Kid is like 30 years later in his life and you’ll get this movie.  It’s got more Action and the cheesiness factor is maxed out.  This makes it a fun classic.  You can’t help but enjoy some REAL fighting scenes with no CG (that’s how we did it in the 90′s boyee).  Unfortunately the only thing people remember from this movie is the song it made famous:  Snap’s – I’ve Got the Power

It’s the story of a man who returns to Korea-Town to seek revenge against the mobsters that killed a good friend of his.  Searching for answers, he beats up everyone in his path using the only weapon he has available to him.  The Perfect Weapon.

Look past the things where Chinese/Japanese people and language is supposed to pass for Korean ones and you got the recipe for an awesome time.  I do like how the director tried to make this up to Korean people by putting the Korean flag in almost any scene he can find.  I’m not too crazy about watching a movie where a white man beats up Asians using their own innovations but I’ll let it go.  Cause the movies one liners and fun action make it worthwhile.

Unfortunately you can’t find it on DVD shelves anywhere and I doubt you guys know what VHS is.  But you’re in luck cause someone was gracious enough to post the whole movie on youtube into ten parts!  Watch it while you can!

Some people just need to get with the times.  I found this news report about a man somewhere in Europe renting out his place and advertises that “NO ASIANS” need to call.  Pets are allowed, drugs are allowed, sex offenders are allowed, just NO ASIANS.  Why?  He calls them “a mob of crooks!”  He thinks they are  Judging from the quality of the video, the fashion sense, and other things, yo1u can tell the report was shot sometime within this century!  Probably the 70′s~late 80′s.  But without further to do, meet the man who wants “NO ASIANS”

It’s a little hard to hear so control your anger.  =)

That reporter must have felt stupid.  But it’s not his fault, the person writing the ad was either a racist or needs to clean their ears.

If you guys haven’t heard, there was a hostage situation in Maryland this past week.  Armed with a gun & explosives, James J. Lee walked into the offices of Discovery Channel with a gun and held people hostage.  After a four hour standoff police shot him dead.  I don’t know the specifics of the situation other than this and the fact that James Lee wanted the Discovery Channel to put more “truthful” programming on the air.  “Truthful” programming meaning that he wanted the public to know the “truth” on the war and the government.  He was against the propaganda.

A few years back in 2007, Choi Seung Hui was a catalyst for tragedy behind the Virgina Tech Massacre.  It was the biggest mass murder on U.S. soil by a single person.

“That’s What She Said” is not just something Michael Scott says to make himself appear sexier, but it’s also a new web series that focuses on the relationship of 4 lesbians. It may well even be the first web series with an all-Asian-American & gay cast!   Think “K-Town Cowboys” meets “Sex in the City” & “The ‘L’ Word”.

To be honest, a Lesbian web series starring Asian Americans initially caught me off guard, and I didn’t know what to expect.  BUT since the first episode, this series has me hooked.  Not only does it encompass the importance of friendship and sisterhood but it also illustrates the strength we can find in others.

After a painful breakup with her first girlfriend, Nicole leaves everything behind and moves to Los Angeles.  Quickly making friends with her new roommate and her friends, the story begins to unfold.  It’s not always about fun, drinking, and clubbing. The girls have their own personal issues that both young adults and lesbians struggle with.  Things like being able to come out of the closet to your family, falling for the wrong person, forgetting a painful past, finding love…anything goes!

I give the show 2 thumbs up! Although the show looks to be made with a low budget (if any), low budget does not mean low quality.  Check it out!

PBS has a documentary out called I Love You (Wo Ai Ni) Mommy.  It follows the Sadowsky family as they welcome and raise their newly adopted baby from China.  As 8 year-old Fang Sui Yong begins adjusting to life in a Jewish Family, the Long Island family begin to ponder the affects of the culture clash it has on their newest member.

Directed by Stephanie Wang-Breal, another Chinese-American, telling Fang Sui’s emotional journey is as personal and similar as her own.

You can watch the full documentary online for free HERE until November 30, 2010.

It’s BACK TO SCHOOL for some of you most unfortunate, unwilling, scholars.  Elementary kids worry about that special lunchbox that set’s them apart from others.  Junior high kids are looking for that magical pimple cream that will erase all signs of puberty.  High school kids are busy trying to fit in searching for their unforgettable sweetheart…and College kids are busy moving back in to their dorms beginning to experience life on their own for the first time…

Just remember College kids, whenever you’re feeling stressed over finals, the paper isn’t done on time, the hangover is too great, their is a symbol of hope…

The people of Rich Hall can feel safer knowing that RiceBomb is there.

Ricebomb was recently invited to watch The World Basketball Festival 2010 in New York City by the US Army. The generous ticket offers got us court side seating in Madison Square Garden. The last time I was in the Garden, I watched Wintuk. A family oriented event, nuff said.

Anyway, this special occasion that we were invited to was a scrimmage game between USA and China. We all know how this is going to turn out, but nonetheless we had front row seats and arms length to the basketball players. The seats were first come first serve and we sat right in behind the backboard. We also had some celebrities within our presence, OK more like lookalike.

Back to the main event. Here we have the USA team line up (l. to r.) #22 Eric Gordon, 41 Derrick Rose, 33 name, 53 Tyson Chandler, 23 Chauncey Billups, 34 Andre Eguadala, 40 Kevin Love (his uncle is a Beach Boy member)

Here is the Chinese team. I don’t really recognize a lot of the players there except #11, Yi Jianlian, who played for the New Jersey Nets. The team wasn’t so great, but he did out perform his other team mates.

The game consisted of 4 quarters, but each quarter they reseted the score and began a new game. The USA team won first 3 out of 4 games but the Chinese regrouped and came back strong winning the last quarter shouting “ja yo” (“do your best” in mandarin)

In order to get over heartbreak, some friends go drinking.  Others find substitutes.  Some people work out to get over the pain.  Many people just cry.  My friend, demotivates.  I love “demotivators“.  Send one of these to a friend in despair and you’ll get a small smile or laugh in return.  And in there is hope….how’s that for motivation?
