Val won a gift certificate to our studio at a silent auction for Gallery 7 and has been saving it for a fall family portrait. She didn’t realize who we were but I had worked with her one summer at MCCBC. She is an amazing quilter who used to organize the quilting there. She has so many gorgeous quilts in her home.

We met Redekop family at their home and photographed them in the chilly wind. Brrr. They were troopers and here are a few of our favorites …

By the way, Gallery 7 is performing Pride & Prejudice from now to November 21. I’ve heard it’s a must see show!

Baby Daphne made her first appearance at our studio recently accompanied by big sister Bryna. Bryna enjoyed checking Daphne’s hair, giving her kisses and then was more interested in gold fish crackers and moving around. Priorities, I tell you!

It was fun to photograph this family again. Niki + Shawn are amazing with kids and know how to make things fun and engage Bryna. They have a large repertoire of songs and poems, many of which I recognize from when I taught Kindermusik. I think we’ll start bringing them to all of our sessions! Here are a few of our favorites …

We met the Murison family at Fort Langley for a fun, relaxed portrait session. The weather was great and the kids thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Ava didn’t want it to end and told us she loved having pictures done. That’s music to our ears. Especially when the pictures turn out this cute …

jason’s field trip

Jason always looks forward to going on shooting sprees with other photographers and talking shop. He recently met up with a group in New West to play around with off camera flash.

The benefit of using a flash off camera is that it allows the photographer to isolate the subject by darkening the background. Jason is forever trying new things like below in the shot of the guy in front of the ivy - he put a red gel over the flash to turn the wall red. It gives it a whole different feel than if it was just an ivy wall in natural light.

We met Benjamin + Lauryn for an Imagine session at Fort Langley and had a great time taking pictures of them. We do so many photos of little kids that it feels like a cake walk when we photograph big kids who look at the camera and stand in one spot when we ask them to. Benjamin + Lauren were great to work with. They both have amazing smiles and could fake a little attitude for us too. Here are a few favorites …

If you’re one of our loyal blog stalkers you will probably recognize Annika + Sophie. We’ve photographed them several times before and even recently at our Boo Shoot. We always love the variety of expressions and moods they give us when we’re photographing. From all out laughter to deep, quiet looks. Their mom, Kobie, runs an awesome hair salon and always makes sure the sessions with the girls are fun and natural. Here are a few of our favorites …

Riley + Maddy are professional posers as their parents run a photography studio in Cloverdale. We met them earlier this year at a Professional Photographers Association of British Columbia (PPABC) meeting and were excited when they signed their kids up for an Imagine kids session with us.

We photographed them last week at Fish Trap Creek in Abbotsford for a beautiful, fall session. Each Imagine session will have pictures included in our art book. We won’t be blogging those pictures so you’ll have to get the book to see our absolute favorites. Here are some of our other favorites from this session …

d.i.y. light modifier : salad bowl beauty dish

I have been on a search for a salad bowl to create a large speedlight beauty dish* like my last one - originally inspired by strobist. Anything lightweight and larger than 12″ diameter has been almost impossible to find. But thanks to a local restaurant supply store, I was able to pick up an 18″ pressed wood bowl for the light modifier - finally getting the diameter I wanted. A simple transplant of the components from the small dish to the large dish and it was complete.
