The Screaming Brendas

The Screaming Brendas – ‘Darren’s Night Out’ (Download) The Screaming Brendas hailed from Darwin and were around in the late 90s – early 2000s. The band sent me this cool 3-track demo on CDR for a DIY as fuck compilation I put out around that time called Punk? Rodeo. From memory, which is sketchy, the band broke up after a personnel change that didn’t work out. Rickos of The Screaming Brendas went on to form an alternative country band called The Duanes. The Brendas were a great band. If anyone wants the full demo just email me.
Rollins Band – Rise Above Tour Bootleg

If it weren’t for sweets and presents then Xmas would simply be a load of bollocks to this grumpy ole atheist. But seeing as I do like sweets and presents, I’m happy to gate crash the party. So, in the spirit of giving, I give you the complete bootleg recording of the Rollins Band rockin’ the Corner Hotel in Richmond Australia, on July 22nd 2003 from the Rise Above tour. Earlier in the year I featured a song from this show on the blog and received heaps of requests for the full recording, so here it is. Enjoy, be merry, and Happy Holidays from Revenge Radio.
Paint Stripper

Paint Stripper – ‘Prozac 20′ (mp3) Paint Stripper is one of my favourite Australian bands from the mid 1990s. Today’s track Prozac 20 is from their 1996 LP, Strontium 90. Information on Paint Stripper is criminally absent from the web as far as I can tell. The Melbourne trio put out three releases between 1994 and 1996. Paint Stripper (1994), Rubbish Truck EP (1995) and Strontium 90 (1996). I’m sure there would be a few other compilations etc they appeared on during that time as well. I recently picked up a split 7 inch with Rapido label mates Pollen released in 1995 featuring Rose Coloured Glasses from Strontium 90. Below is footage of the band on YouTube performing this track live, possibly on Melbourne community TV station Channel 31. Although both these tracks feature Tonya on vocals, vocal duties for the band were shared with guitarist Andrew Wills. On the first Paint Stripper release, Neil Thomason (who went on to form Ricaine), features in the line up on vocals as well. If you like what you hear, check out the links at the end of this post. You can pick up a copy of Strontium 90 for just $1.95 at [...]

Dave and the Derro’s – Punk Princess

'Punk Princess' is a b-side to the 1978 release 'Death to Disco' on Mushroom Records by Dave and the Derros. Dave, aka David Jones, wrote novelty songs for his radio show in Newcastle NSW, Australia. I'm presuming this was one of them.

Rollins Band – Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment

This is the first bootleg recording to make an appearance on the Revenge Radio MP3 blog. There will be many more to come! We're gonna kick things off with the Rollins Band from the Rise Above Tour in 2003. The song is a cover of the classic Ramones tune 'Gimme Gimme Shock Treatment'.

Peyote – Crazed

Does anyone remember the Newcastle band Peyote? They seemed to disappear as quickly as they arrived on the scene back in 1995. I don't know/remember much about them so would appreciate it if anyone could fill in the gaps.

The Hook ‘n’ Pull Gang

The Hook 'n' Pull Gang were part of the late 80s indie scene in Edinburgh, Scotland. Described as "a cross between the Sex Pistols and the Ronettes," punters remember the band as a strong live act. They were known for singing about the Texas Chainsaw Massacre and influenced other bands in the Edinburgh scene such as Goodbye Mr Mackenzie.

Princess of Mars – Demo

I know it's the intention of this blog to delve into past releases/material, but when you learn who is playing in this relatively new band you'll understand why a post was deemed necessary. Princess of Mars features some mighty fine personnel from two amazing bands that demand your attention - we're talkin' the guitar prowess of Rita Blazyca and the drumming of one Rat Scabies - I'll be damned!

Räuberhöhle (Berlin, Germany)

Räuberhöhle sent in her 2000 CD-R release 'Knallerbsen und Sprengkörper' for consideration for a compilation I put out years ago. The demo featured four tracks of what would probably best be described as 'riot beats', in a style not dissimilar to Julie Ruin and Le Tigre. Armed with various Casios, kids toys that go beep and a riot grrl spirit, I found Räuberhöhle hard to resist.
