Sales of the Wii have been on a consistent decline, initially masked by the widespread sales downturn in January, but continuing its downturn while other consoles showed signs of recovering from the new-year slowdown.

Full understanding of the Wii’s market position will be determined over the next few months, where flagging sales will either be revealed as a blip or a continuing downward trend.
Full list for the week ending Feb‭ ‬22‭ ‬according to Media Create:

The Playstation 3 also saw sales drop, falling by 2,500 units from the previous week. Sony’s home system had sold 16,149 units in total; just a few hundred behind the Wii, yet now around 9,000 units behind Microsoft’s system.

Both handhelds remain at the top of the charts, though both are more vulnerable in slipping down the ranks as sales continue to slide. Nintendo’s DSi was stung by the biggest drop in sales, down some 11,500 units from the previous week. The PSP, meanwhile, took another heavy drop in sales, moving just under 30,000 units for the week.
It means that a sales gap of around 4,000 units now separates the handhelds from the home consoles.

Nintendo's DSi: A Closer Look

As we all know it, the Nintendo's new DSi hits the markets on April 5th. There are many risks and investments to be made. So before we continue on lets take a look at the new features of the Nintendo DSi.

New Features:
•17% bigger screen
•4 times the RAM
•Double the processor speed
•2 separate .3 mega-pixel cameras, one with VGA resolution
•12% thinner than DS Lite
•Online shop similar to WiiWare
•256 internal memory and SD card slot
•PictoChat, music player, photo editor, voice recorder
The DSi is obviously categorized as your portable accessory. With a bigger screen and slimmer design, this new product can be irresistible. With newer hardware and online features, this amazing hand-held console runs $40 higher than the original DSLite. Software compatibility will be exceptional for DS Homebrews and applications. Though, there are many crippling factors that you may want to consider before buying.
Dropped Features
•No slot for Gameboy Advance games or peripherals/accessories like Guitar Hero keypad
•Battery life shorter than DS Lite
•</s:bold;pan>Only plays AAC music files (No MP3 Support)

Now lets talk about these. No MP3 audio support isn't part of the battle on this product. Though it seems already incompatible, there are other ways. Possible AAC conversions and transfer can be made through legal processes. The real killer here is the loss of a GBA Slot. Nintendo may loose some investment will the outdated GBA peripherals. Possibly focusing more on other extensions there are yet to be announced after the release.

According to long running GBA and DS homebrew site GBATemp, The DSi, Nintendo's update to the DS Lite, blocks almost all current flash carts from running code on the system. That includes the infamous R4, CycloDS and M3 cards.
Right now, there's no telling if this can be fixed by updating the card firmware, or if people who want to run code on their DS (homebrew and pirated ROMs alike) will simply have to wait for the next generation of flash cards to spew out from the factories of Hong Kong. Which they will.

GBA support will be supplied for the DSi by these 3rd Party companies. Though I cannot confirm with M3 and CycloDS; according to members of the R4 community, Japanese DSi's operating with japanese R4 cards. The use of the R4 is somewhat limited but one key advandatge is the use of game downloads directly to a Memory card. Memory cards support span up to 8GB of memory. Marketing in the past year 16GB Memory cards were released; however, compatibile with the DSi is still in question.
Still not convinced? A new product entitled Acekard2 is the first ever compatible flash cart for the DSi.
Features:

1. Support DSi, DSL, IDSL, DS and IDS
2. Perfect Compatibility. No need to convert, No need to flash.
3. Write save file directly to TF card. No more save type selection.
4. Auto patching DLDI. Run homebrew programs without convert.
5. Support Soft-Reset. Support Download play. Support Wi-Fi.
The DSi is nevertheless your "DSLite on Steroids". With 2x the processor and 4x the RAM; incomming homebrews and apps can possible throw the PSP off the stocks!

PS3 Featuring 3D Enhancements in Near Future

SCEE President David Reeves states:

"...the PlayStation 3 is a link to 3D"

Earlier, the striking PS3 price drops came to a decline sony has even better plans for you PS3 gamers out there. You $400 investment plans are finally. Sony reveals the PS3's new capabilities demoed with 3d technology in the possible titles: MotorStorm, WipEout HD, and GT5 Prologue.

"PS3 is a link to 3D as it is to HD and flatscreen TVs, which is why three HD games were shown at CES. You’re also going to find a number of 3D films coming out in Aug/Sept. But is there convergence in 3D technology – is there confidence? I don’t see it. So we may dip our toe in the water, not this year but possibly next,"
states Reeves.
As confirmed in CES 09' the new development of 3D stability in underway as rumors of Sony's affiliation with Hollywood states that 3D releases are not expected until next year. There may not be a large demand for 3D just yet, it might not be long until the market shifts and 3D will become popular for console gaming.

PS2 price cut could steal Wii market share, says Sony

Sony predicts new pricing on the PS2 will steal Nintendo's Market.

Sony America’s John Koller has stated his belief that the PlayStation 2’s newly introduced $99 price tag will help pinch a significant amount of market share away from Nintendo Wii in the U.S.

Speaking to GameDaily, Koller stated: “We do think the $99 price point could steal some share [from Wii].”

Koller also highlighted similarities between both machines, noting that Nintendo’s system is closer to the PS2 from a technological standpoint in comparison to current generation platforms. Furthermore, he also believes the price cut will facilitate Sony’s efforts in attracting a wider demographic, specifically, 'young and female' audiences.

“From a technological standpoint, the Wii is much closer to the PS2 than it is to the next-gen consoles. It’s obviously not an HD box and the software development is on a par with where PS2 development is, so that’s a much more realistic and similar demographic,” said Koller.

“We feel very confident that the $99 price level will allow us to grab our share [of the young and female audience]”

PDP Unveils the New XBOX360 Motion Controller & DS Stylus

Good news for xbox fan boys!

The motion sensored-godliness featured in the Wii and PS3 is now coming to the XBOX 360! Xbox 360 modders will no longer have to pull off the xbox 360 motion sensor mod anymore!

The Gametrak Freedom from PDP will offer wireless motion-based controls using Microsoft's proprietary wireless protocol. The Gametrak uses a 3D ultrasonic transducer and a three axis accelerometer to detect motion. You'll also find a trigger on the under side, as well as the 360's familiar four button configuration and a D-pad.
So whats different? Is this just a Wii rip-off or what?
According to PDP, Wii uses a single sensor for point of direction. PDP saved the issue with the Wiimote and supplied the Gametrak with 2 sensors, one in front and the other opposite of the tevelision.
The gametraks first inital test results on the game "Gametrak Freedom" with Squeeballs, a game that PDP will bundle with the controller. All was a success!

Enough with the 360 and lets head over to the new DS Stylus.
PDP is releasing the Smart Stylus 1, which has the ability to vibrate to indicate explosions among other things. The stylus is wireless and currently uses the GBA port to communicate with the DS.

Uh oh. Did I hear GBA Port? According to Nintendo, their new product running down their assembly lines of April; the DSi, does not support GBA due to the loss of a GBA slot.
As of right now, the Smart Stylus 1 will be compatible with the DS and DSLite until there is a compatible solution.

NEWS UPDATE:

PDP is currently in talks with Nintendo to get approval for a DS cartridge version to make the device compatible with the DSi. PDP will bundle the Smart Stylus with a DS version of Squeeballs for $35 this fall. PDP is also hard at work to make the Smart Stylus 2 - a stylus that incorporates vibration, lights, sound and motion sensing capabilities.

Good save PDP. We all were worried there for a second. But why make a GBA Slot version? That will be incompatible to the new DSi? Latest sequel to the series Fatal Frame, Fatal Frame 4 will be the first in this asian horror series to star on the newer generation consoles. In early 2008. Nintendo was revealed as the main role-playing developer rather than the usual sony or xbox franchise. Gameplay and graphcis will surely change in this upcoming sequel. The use of the Wiimote will allow the player to situate themselves as if he was the protagonist. Whereas gameplay will enhance this title's success, the graphics and quality are still in question...

Lets look at the plot summary:

"10 years ago, five girls were captured and held hostage by a criminal in a mysterious house on Rougetsu Island, located south of Honshu. They were eventually rescued by Chōshiro Kirishima, a detective pursuing the criminal. Several years after the incident, two of the girls, Marie Shinomiya and Tomoe Nanamura, died mysteriously. The three remaining girls, Ruka Minazuki, Misaki Asō and Madoka Tsukimori, all now 17 years old, return to the island to recover their lost memories and find out more about their kidnapping. Chōshiro follows the girls at the request of Ruka's mother, Sayaka Minazuki."

Not a bad punch to the series. The storyline is definitely heart-pumping, considering the fact that the whole entire series are based on true stories.

So whats unique with this game? Well for one, you dont literally have a weapon. Running around with ghosts chasing after you, your best companion is an old camera by the name of Obscura. And yes, you guessed it right. This camera is no ordinary camera; it has the power to dispel ghosts and creatures from the real world and release their angered souls. Camera angles are limited by more than half of the usual horror games.

According to Bozon from IGN:

"Think of it like Pokemon Snap, if Pikachu could corrupt your mind and send you directly to hell itself. "

Well said Bozon. This game of hell and havoc will leave you full of surprise in every corner.
Though the graphics seem a little overwhelming can the Wii live up to the Fatal Frame name? Or will it disappoint us at the last second? Find out for yourself. The game is expected to come out this late summer.

Resident Evil 5 Racism Debacle: The Idiocy Continues

The great debate. From the trailer down to the actual release, Resident Evil 5 situates a "white" protagonist killing "blacks". First and foremost, Resident Evil series contain a white protagonist and many mixes of culture.

Resident Evil Fanatic, IvenomI states:

The Resident Evil franchise has been building up to this, and foreshadowing, in every major console release since RE:1. It all goes back to the Umbrella Facility in Africa and the discovery of the Progenitor Virus.

Why does it always seem offensive that blacks are recognized in out society? The "white" protagonist opposes a force of zombies & Majini. who appear to be black. Coincidence? Apparently not. The game takes place in Africa, yes we all know it, so save it. So this is no reason that RE:5 is directed towards racism. If this is not then what is? Lets look at the review and find out more..
A reactonary writer claims:

The new Resident Evil video game depicts a white man in what appears to be Africa killing Black people. The Black people are supposed to be zombies and the white man’s job is to destroy them and save humanity…
This is problematic on so many levels, including the depiction of Black people as inhuman savages, the killing of Black people by a white man in military clothing, and the fact that this video game is marketed to children and young adults. Start them young… fearing, hating, and destroying Black people.

Wow. What I identify is one problematic individual on so many levels. The writer claims the game standard bases racism and jeopardizes the status of blacks. This person is simply contradicting himself...
A white man whose objective is to destroy blacks to save humanity. To begin with, this review was written when the game trailer was first released. Yes it has somewhat negatvie connotation, but its simply not racist. The fact that the game is situated outside of a white country acknowledges foreign countries.
Resident Evil 5 producer Jun Takeuchi recently said to Yahoo! Games:

We don't want to create something that offends a certain element of society. At the same time, we don't want to be in a place where you can't set a game in Africa or in an Arabic country. That in itself is a form of racism. For us, as creators of entertainment, it's important for us to strike that right balance.

Now that the game has been out for a while; we can now judge the game as clean content with no objective to offend anyone. Go ahead and see for yourself.

Microsoft's Red Scandal

Yes folks, we all heard it before. Reports of xbox 360s RRoD. Oh goodie, whats on the menu now?

Well apparently, Microsoft has been a bit short-handed on the RRoD and has taken little action, to fight back. Reports of the first model have overheat issues in its first launch, which led to microsoft's new additional Heatsink add-on in newer models, but this wasn't enough.

Microsoft took evasive action and reduced the CPU chips from 90nm to 65nm in the Falcon motherboards found in the Elites. They enhanced the power supply from 205watts down to a decent amount of 175 watts. This reduced production costs and led to that $100 decrease in the United States and other countries. Believe it or not, though newer models are somewhat immune to the RRoD, the fight rages on. In early September 08, Microsoft launched the new jasper model. Featuring enhanced GPU and CPU which both were sized down to 65nm. Surprisingly, these models are only found in Arcade and Pro consoles; not in your usual perfected Black Elite.

Ahh here we go folks, hang on!

Microsoft pulls our legs yet again. Disappointingly Microsoft launched the limited edition Resident Evil 5 Elite Bundle pack on March 13, 2009. With a new red matte cover and accessories useful to match your red carpet Mr. superstar, but whats the catch? Xbox fan boys run straight to the stores whereas Modding Investigators doubted the red elite. Whats so good about it? Many things, but its nothing but a big rip-off. The Red Elite is ensured a far lower possibility of getting the RROD. There is one benefit with the Red Elite. Its a Jasper Elite. Since black elites are not supplied with the Jasper, Microsoft went ahead and took the jasper, which is supplied in the your average Pro, and equiped it with the Elite model. Rather than buying a Pro with a Jasper for only $250, you just bought yourself a Red Elite for an extra $100 dollars for red matte plastic. Now that you have bought yourself the latest model, the new Valhalla 360 model features in mid-2009 for a fraction of the cost.

Well done Microsoft, got me there for a second..

Community Gaming Forum

Alright!
