National Pediatric Hypnosis Training Institute Pediatric Clinical Hypnosis Skills Training Workshop

Tri-level pediatric-specific medical hypnosis skills training, co-sponsored by the National Pediatric Hypnosis Training Institute (www.NPHTI.org), the University of Minnesota Department of Pediatrics, and the Minnesota Society of Clinical Hypnosis.

Clinical Hypnosis is a therapeutic intervention with empirical support for a variety of clinical conditions: including chronic and procedure-related pain, anxiety disorders, stress-related conditions, habit problems, sleep disturbance, and various medical conditions. This workshop provides training in the use of clinical hypnosis and its applications to children and teens with various conditions in pediatric settings. The workshop is offered at three levels (Introductory, Intermediate and Advanced) depending on the clinician’s previous training in pediatric hypnosis. Strong emphasis is placed on experiential learning, with supervised practice of hypnotic techniques suitable for children/teens and of integrating a developmental perspective.

ELIGIBILITY AND TARGET AUDIENCE

These workshops would be ideal for persons holding a:

• Doctoral Degree in Medicine, Psychology, or Dentistry

• Masters Degree in Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Clinical or Counseling Psychology

• Masters Degree in Nursing or a Registered Nurse with subspecialty training and certification

• Other Advanced degree health care providers, e.g. Occupational and Physical Therapists, Speech and Language Pathologists, et. al.

• Child Life Specialists holding a Bachelor’s degree

• Students, Interns, Residents and Fellows actively enrolled in a graduate program leading to degrees or completion of training in any of the foregoing.

NOTE: All participants are expected to attend the entire workshop and participate in experiential activities, including trance experiences. No exceptions

The SASM 3rd Annual Meeting: Opioids, Respiratory Depression, and Sleep-Disordered Breathing (SDB): Perioperative Implications will be be held October 10–11, 2013 in San Francisco, CA.

The objective of this meeting is to provide a forum for discussions pertaining to the common grounds between sleep and anesthesia. The goal is to promote excellence in medical care, research and education in anesthesia, sleep medicine and perioperative medicine.

Target Audience:

This conference is designed for anesthesiologists, critical care physicians, residents, fellows‐in‐training, general medicine physicians, pulmonary physicians, sleep medicine physicians, surgeons, scientists and allied health care professionals.

Learning Objectives:

After attending this educational activity, participants will be able to:

Understand the mechanism of ventilatory control and the relationship between anesthesia and sleep;

Recognize risk factors for the development of central sleep apnea due to opioids as well as the perioperative impact of sedatives/narcotics in both adults and children;

Interpret the perioperative complications of sleep-disordered breathing;

Develop practice pathways to screen, diagnose, monitor/manage sleep-disordered breathing in the perioperative period.

By bringing physicians, scientists, nurses, rehab professionals, policy advocates, care partners, family members and people with Parkinson's disease together, we aim to create a worldwide dialogue that will help expedite the discovery of a cure and best treatment practices for this devastating disease.

Plans are underway for the third World Parkinson Congress from October 1 - 4, 2013 to be held at the Palais des congrès in Montreal, Canada. The WPC 2013 is on track to be as successful as the first two Congresses but we can only do it with your involvement. The WPC 2013 is more than just a meeting. We hope to leave a legacy behind. When planning each WPC, we work with the local community to raise awareness about and increase the quality of life of people living with Parkinson disease.
