This position is a Research Support Assistant in a neuroscience laboratory investigating potential pathogenic mechanisms and treatment targets in mental illness, specifically depression and other anxiety disorders.  The work focuses on why not all subjects respond to antidepressant treatment. Mouse models, and molecular and behavioral techniques are used to address these questions. 


DUTIES

Responsibilities include mouse husbandry (organization of the rodent colony, genotyping, and breeding rodents for behavioral experiments; collecting tissue samples for experimental analysis), and carrying out behavioral experiments. In addition, the technician will carry out gene and protein expression analysis using immunohistochemistry and RT-PCR techniques. In addition, other related duties necessary to the functioning of the laboratory or research projects will be performed (e.g. preparation of stock solutions, organizational tasks, ordering supplies). 

All data obtained must be recorded in detail, including a record of animal husbandry and stocks or other reagents generated. The ideal candidate will also have experience in preparing and presenting reports of data.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, physics, or neuroscience-related field preferred (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience).
At least 1 year of experience with rodent experiments generally, and specifically in the areas of rodent colony maintenance, genotyping, and behavioral experiments.  Must show ability to work independently following initial instruction. 
Applicant will be expected to have excellent organizational skills, and be competent with computers and data entry. Macintosh computer experience desired. The ideal candidate will be able to work on a flexible schedule, including some weekends and evenings as necessary.

The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time Project Administrator, Grade 14, to support implementation of the Psychiatric Services and Clinical Knowledge Enhancement System (PSYCKES) and MyPSYCKES.  PSYCKES is a web-based portfolio of reports designed to support quality improvement and clinical decisionmaking and is currently in use by over 400 provider agencies in NYS as well as state agencies, county governments, and behavioral health organizations. This position requires a highly organized individual with excellent customer service, administrative and research skills who relates well to a diverse group of the public including, but not limited to, clinicians, administrators, consumers of mental health services, researchers, and senior executives.

PSYCKES uses Medicaid claims data to generate performance measures on quality concerns across all levels of the system, including provider, county, region, and state; clinical reports provide up to five years of Medicaid treatment history across settings. MyPSYCKES is a tool for use in clinical settings by consumers of mental health services that promotes shared decisionmaking through the CommonGround  Health Report and provides access to learning resources and Medicaid treatment histories. The PSYCKES team manages several statewide quality improvement projects and clinical implementation efforts, including training, technical assistance, and evaluation, and participates in requirement development and quality assurance activities for the PSYCKES and MyPSYCKES applications. Responsibilities:

Under the direction of one or more project managers, the person in this position will assist with various implementation and evaluation tasks, including but not limited to:
*Technical assistance:  Provide support via phone and e-mail to PSYCKES users and project participants, including processing requests for information, investigating and resolving issues reported by users, and updating tracking forms and databases.  
*Data management and quality assurance: Participate in quality testing for the PSYCKES application; develop test cases; track defects and communicate with members of the data analysis and programming team; update tracking systems; develop release notes. 
*Training: Develop materials for PSYCKES trainings; manage registration processes; provide technical support and assistance during trainings, including Q&amp;amp;A.
*Project coordination and support: Establish and maintain systems for recording, tracking, and updating project materials, including data; schedule meetings and conference calls; prepare materials for meetings; keep minutes of meetings.


QUALIFICATIONS

(RFMH) is currently seeking a qualified candidate to serve as a Data Quality Review Clerk in the Office of Performance Measurement and Evaluation in Albany, New York. Under the supervision of the Performance Measurement Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for quality review and data entry of forms used to collect information on various Project Hope activities.  Project Hope is a program that provides free crisis counseling services to persons, families, and groups most affected by the recent flooding following Hurricane Sandy.  Project Hope is funded by the Federal Emergency and Management Agency (FEMA) and is administered by the Center for Mental Health Services (CMHS) and the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) in conjunction with the RFMH. This position is projected to run through December 2013.

Bachelors Degree preferred with relevant experience required. Masters degree in Public Health strongly preferred.

This position involves regular and substantial contact with children. The successful candidate will be screened through the New York State Central Child Abuse Register prior to assuming any duties that will involve contact with children. Recruitment and contact with mood disorder patients and healthy comparison subjects as part of ongoing brain imaging studies of depression and of treatments for depression including:
1) assisting in data acquisition during MRI and PET imaging related to study protocols, including training subjects in functional MRI tasks, 
2) maintaining subject charts and of all documentation regarding study participation, 
3) coordinating all subject visits related to study participation, and 
4) corresponding  with Institutional Review Board (IRB) regarding new and ongoing research protocols.

Note: This position is part-time at 60%.

DUTIES

1) Recruitment: advertising, conducting interviews by phone to determine initial eligibility, escorting subjects through protocol measures, venipuncture for laboratory tests.

2)Subject contact: provide assistance and support to research subjects undergoing biological procedures

3) Data acquisition: 
*ensure quality data acquisition and transfer from MRI/fMRI and PET suite 
*administration of cognitive tasks to subjects in fMRI scanner

4) Data entry, data processing, and statistical analyses of data

5) Reviews of subject charts for comprehensiveness of documentation.

6) Research protocol administrative tasks: correspondence with IRB regarding new and ongoing research protocols.


QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelors Degree in psychology, biology, other sciences or related field preferred.

Experience: At least one year of clinical research experience preferred; Some experience working with patients with psychiatric illness preferred.

Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, excellent organizational abilities.  Excellent writing and editing skills, proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet programs and basic parametric statistical tests (t-tests, ANOVAS).  

Must be certified in phlebotomy or obtain certification before drawing any blood samples.

The OnTrack NY Program is an innovative treatment program at New York State Psychiatric Institute's Washington Heights Community Service.  The program serves people between the ages of 16 and 30 who have experienced an initial episode of psychosis.  The Research Assistant (Outreach Specialist/Intake Clinician) will work 50% FTE as part of a multidisciplinary team providing coordinated and assertive treatment in the earliest stages of illness.



DUTIES

*Recruiting patients for program through community education and presentations at potential referral sources 
*Serving as primary contact person for referral sources
*Establishing and maintaining database of referral sources with up-to-date contact information
*Conducting telephone and in-person eligibility screening of patients referred to program
*Referring patients ineligible for program to other appropriate community providers
*Attending weekly team meetings
*Participating in ongoing training and supervision
*Rotating on-call responsibilities with other team members 
*Conducting home visits as necessary and meeting with patients in the community as necessary
*Depending on program needs, may serve as primary clinician for small caseload of patients, providing case management, supportive therapy, skills training, substance abuse counseling, and CBT-based interventions
*May provide family psychoeducation, support, and consultation

QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in an appropriate field (social work, psychology, mental health counseling) required;

The candidate will make an accurate and comprehensive record of research sessions, maintain several databases, be responsible for payments to research subjects, order materials necessary for the project, complete paperwork for placement of newspaper advertising, and perform literature searches.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree preferred. Experience in behavioral science laboratory and/or human participant research preferred. 

Special requirements: Must be meticulous in carrying out research protocols. Good judgment and the ability to work without continuous supervision are very important. Must not object to working with a substance-abusing population. Need to be willing to work flexible shifts, including weekends. 

Need to be familiar with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. 

Must agree to be certified in phlebotomy and obtain certification before drawing any blood samples.

DUTIES

DUTIES

Duties include, but are not limited to: 1) working with leaders in the Office of Mental Health to design models for outreach, intervention, and financing for persons experiencing FEP; 2) design, implement, and monitor the effectiveness of training programs that implement the selected evidence-based outreach and treatment models for FEP in communities throughout New York State using standardized tools and empirical, data-driven methods; 3) oversee the identification of any needed changes in regulations and work with senior OMH staff to accomplish these changes; 4) working directly with program sites to implement this model with fidelity; 5) Working with FEP program leaders, CPI and OMH senior staff to develop strategies for dissemination of this model to other programs across NYS.



Off-site travel will be required, some of which will require overnight stays.

QUALIFICATIONS

Doctorate degree in mental health services or related field or Masters Degree and four years professional research experience in mental health services or related field.

Clinician with experience with individuals with schizophrenia or Serious Mental Illness.  Priority given to individuals who have had experience providing, supervising or training about FEP services.  The incumbent must have experience with state or local service programs and be expert in interacting with professionals in state clinics, agencies and bureaus. Must have experience with local, federal and private grant preparation, conduct, monitoring and reporting. Reporting to the Vice Chair for Finance &amp;amp; Administration, the incumbent will be responsible for the overall financial and administrative management of five research divisions and centers (business units), which includes significant funded research and philanthropic support.  This position has responsibility across three entities, Research Foundation of Mental Hygiene (RFMH), New York State Psychiatric Institute (NYSPI), and the Department of Psychiatry (DOP).

The Administrative Director will ensure that the assigned Divisions and Centers are financially viable and are in compliance with all applicable regulatory and transactional policies, procedures and processes. S/he will successfully interface with the RFMH, NYSPI and DOP's centralized budget and fiscal operations, ensuring that all budget and fiscal work is carried out smoothly and with strict compliance. S/he will ensure successful research management of grants/contracts within his/her area, collaborating with Principal Ivestigators and the RFMH and DOP's centralized research pre-and-post award functions.  S/he will ensure successful management of human resource and faculty affairs within assigned areas, interfacing with the centralized functions related to faculty affairs and employee human resources.  S/he will directly supervise 3 employees.  
The complexities of this position are considerable. Combined, the units have approximately 80 faculty, 60 staff, $11M Sponsored Projects (direct costs) per year and $12.4M total funds.  The position will have five faculty leaders as primary customers.
The human resource management is complicated due to the varied scope of the positions within the Divisions, including faculty, research positions and other professional and unionized staff.  The sources and uses of funds are large and represent a number of complex budgets. There is a large volume of grant activity, with many types and kinds of grants and contracts. There is substantial overlap and coordination between RFMH, NYSPI, and DOP.

DUTIES

Work with the Division Chiefs and Center Directors to develop and articulate a strategy for program growth, cost containment, and improved operational efficiency; provide project management support for new strategic initiatives.


Develop strategies for creating successful grant proposals; assist faculty in preparation of grant applications and subsequent funding contracts; assist new faculty recruits in developing their grant portfolio.
Manage the effort reporting and certification process to ensure departmental compliance; advice and assists principal investigators and faculty in the effort certification process as needed.
Supervising and monitoring the business units' grants managers to ensure appropriate sponsored projects management and financial reporting for all active grants; monitor actual results compared to approved budgets; identify shortfalls; recommend steps to correct shortfalls.  
In collaboration with RFMH, NYSPI and DOP finance staff, prepare the division's annual operating budget, as well as reports summarizing and forecasting program activity and financial status in areas of revenue and expenses and business development.
Prepare and track salary allocations; coordinate timely resolution of suspense, overdrafts, and closing of open commitments.  Supervise the faculty appointment and promotion processes; direct the human resources function in collaboration with RFMH, NYSPI and DOP human resource offices; build a high-functioning and fully trained administrative team.


QUALIFICATIONS

Five to seven years of administrative experience in a large complex academic or research setting working directly with research budgets; experience with financial management of pre and post grant awards procedures and processes; excellent oral and written communication and customer service skills; ability to analyze and coalesce data from multiple sources and present it in a straightforward format (both financial and narrative); ability to identify solutions to complex problems; high level of proficiency with financial systems including spreadsheet preparation and presentation; understanding of managerial accounting principles.
A master's degree in business administration or healthcare administration is required, but in rare circumstances may be substituted with substantial relevant experience and expertise.  Prior supervisory experience is required, as well as evidence of initiative, discretion and the ability to set priorities in a high volume setting.

Provide pre &amp;amp; post award administrative support for all governmental &amp;amp; private sector grants &amp;amp; contracts. 

DUTIES

Responsible for budgeting, financial reporting and compliance with external &amp;amp; internal regulations and policies.

QUALIFICATIONS

BS/BA required; Advanced degree or research administration experience a +. Must have excellent interpersonal skills &amp;amp; the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline driven environment. Strong Computer skills &amp;amp;/or accounting background a plus. 

The candidate also must possess strong organized skills, maintain confidentiality of work materials, detail orientated, dependable and a Team player.
