Karim Jiwani Joins RegistryPro as CEO

RegistryPro, the exclusive operator of the .PRO top level domain (TLD) for professionals, announced on Wednesday that Karim Jiwani has become its new CEO. In this role, Jiwani will be responsible for all aspects of the registry's operations including strategy, marketing and sales, registrar support, expansion and policy. Jiwani intends to increase the industry awareness for .PRO and expand its reach to encompass all professionals in every field.

In announcing the news, Lucas Roh, CEO of Hostway Corporation, the parent company of RegistryPro, said, "Our registry is poised to grow significantly in the coming years, as the awareness continues to grow for .PRO domains and our backend registry services for other TLD's. We wanted someone that could expertly grow the registry and take it to the next level. Karim has proven experience in the domain industry and is well respected in the community. With his knowledge and passion, he is well equipped to take the company to the next level in providing registry services to registrars and other TLD's."

Jiwani brings over 12 years of industry experience to .PRO and the benefit of being one of the original board members of Afilias, where he was instrumental in growing the company as a senior director. Prior to his role as Senior Director, he served as the Managing Director EMEA for Afilias Ltd.

RegistryPro is pleased to announce that, on April 22nd, the Board of Directors of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) approved the renewal of the .PRO Registry Operator Agreement! Among the changes approved by ICANN is the elimination of the digital certificate requirement, which obligated registrars to offer digital certificates with each .PRO name.

Proposed .PRO Contract Renewal Posted for Public Comment

RegistryPro is pleased to announce that ICANN has posted our proposal for the renewal of the .PRO Registry Agreement for 30 days of public comment. To participate in this public comment forum, visit http://icann.org/en/announcements/announcement-09mar10-en.htm.

Included in this proposal are the elimination of the digital certificate requirement placed on sponsoring registrars and language addressing ownership and control restrictions related to registry registrar separation.

Comments on the proposed agreement can be posted to pro-renewal-2010@icann.org no later than 23:59 UTC on 7 April 2010, and viewed at http://forum.icann.org/lists/pro-renewal-2010/. Comments will be considered by the ICANN Board along with the proposed .PRO renewal agreement at its meeting on 22 April 2010.

“Members of the RegistryPro Advisory Board look forward to continuing our work in 2010 in advising and consulting with the registry regarding policies and plans," said Advisory Board Chair Steven Wright. "We are glad to welcome our newest member, Jon Nevett. Mr. Nevett�s legal background and industry experience make him a perfect addition to our Board and his contributions will be valued highly.�

"Having worked with .PRO�s leadership over the last year and a half, I know firsthand the importance they place on the Advisory Board as an integral component in the development of registry policies and practices, " said Nevett. Jon Nevett currently serves as President of Domain Dimensions, LLC, consulting on various domain name issues, including advising clients interested in applying for New Top Level Domains.

Most recently, Jon served as Senior Vice President for Policy at Network Solutions. He was Network Solutions� primary point of contact with the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the U.S. Congress, the Department of Commerce, and other federal agencies, as well as various domain name registries. He also served as Chairman of the Board of NameJet � Network Solutions� joint venture to provide domain auction and listing services in the secondary market � and Central Registry Solutions � Network Solutions� joint venture to provide registry services related to the introduction of new top level domains. Finally, Jon also was responsible for managing Network Solutions� ethics policy and corporate compliance program.

From 2006-09, Jon served as the elected Chair of the ICANN Registrar Constituency, co-chaired the U.S. Council for International Business� Domain Name System Working Group, and served on the International Chamber of Commerce�s Task Force on the Internet. One- Two- and Three-Character .PRO Names Now Available!

RegistryPro today officially announced plans for the highly anticipated release of one- two- and three-character .PRO domain names over the course of the coming weeks and months.

Between February 10 and April 30, well-qualified and committed professional organizations, companies and individuals will have the opportunity to secure some of the most prime real estate on the Internet. In June 2009, RegistryPro received approval from the board of directors of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) to release these unique and highly recognizable names, which have been reserved since the registry was launched in 2004

The first phase of the release and allocation process is Request for Proposals (RFP), which will begin on February 10th when .PRO begins accepting and evaluating RFPs for all one- two- and three-character .PRO names.

Interested parties have the opportunity to distinguish themselves as candidates by submitting detailed RFPs about their qualifications and how they intend to use and promote a name if awarded. The primary objective of the RFP process is to develop long-term relationships with and secure firm commitments from individuals, businesses and professional organizations that evidence an honest, well mapped out understanding of this opportunity as well as their place in the .PRO space.

Names not awarded through RFP will also be made available through two additional allocation methods: auction and first come, first served general availability.

RegistryPro, the operator of the .PRO top-level domain (TLD), announced today it reached an agreement with ICANN that allows for the release and allocation of one- two- and three-character names. The availability of these several thousand names -- like i.pro, pr.pro and 777.pro -- is expected to generate significant interest from registrants all over the world.

"We're excited to make these unique .PRO domains available to business and service professionals worldwide," said Catherine Sigmar, general manager of RegistryPro. "We've received over 4,000 emails about one- two- and three-character .PRO names. Two names in particular have generated over 500 emails on their own. This contract amendment allows RegistryPro to answer this tremendous demand in the coming months."

New business owners who want to distinguish themselves on the Internet, established professional organizations and multinational corporations with household names have all expressed interest in these short, easy-to-remember domain names.

Domains with fewer than four characters have been available in other gTLDs for several years and are highly sought after. .PRO's allocation and release proposal was approved in the ICANN Board of Directors during the 35th ICANN International meeting in Sydney, Australia.

New "Relaunch" Date for .PRO TLD

Due to unanticipated levels of interest in the .PRO re-launch and requests from nearly all of our registrars, we are going to move our 'go live' date from July 14 to September 8.

We met with a number of registrars last week at the ICANN conference in Paris, and have been busy talking to current and prospective registrars about implementation of the modified restrictions passed by the ICANN Board on April 29. It is apparent that the time frame we first set is not sufficient to accommodate the interest! Therefore, we are moving the date to give registrars additional time to prepare to take registrations for second level resolving names under our new restrictions, and to give registrars time to market the new offering.

The .PRO top level domain, previously restricted to registrants in the accounting, engineering, legal and medical fields, will be available to all licensed and credentialed professionals and professional entities internationally on Monday, Sept 8, 2008.

RegistryPro Announces .PRO Third Level Transition Initiative

RegistryPro, the exclusive operator of the .PRO top level domain on the Internet, is pleased to announce the introduction of the .PRO Third Level Transition Initiative (TLT).

Third level resolving registrations created prior to March 14^th that do not have a second level .PRO domain associated with them will be eligible for one second level domain during the TLT using one of three pre-defined methods: Exact String Match, Profession Specific Second Level Domain (PSSLD) Match, or what we've termed a Reasonable Alternative Match.

RegistryPro will begin accepting Phase I pre-orders on Monday, June 16^that 12:00 Central US. Pre-orders will be processed during the week of June 30^thto July 3^rd. Registrants must complete and return the TLT Order Form to RegistryPro's Support Department. A copy of the TLT Order Form is available for download at http://registry.pro/tlt/TLT_Order_Form_and_TOU.pdf.

RegistryPro Seeking Domain Name Auction Proposals

RegistryPro is currently seeking proposals from experienced domain name auction companies to manage several upcoming auctions of previously unavailable .PRO domains.

The registry is considering options for the release of these domains and will notify the public via our RSS feed and website, registry.pro when a release process and schedule are finalized.

Preliminary Report: ICANN Board Approves Changes for .PRO

According to the Preliminary Report of the April 29, 2008 Special Meeting of the ICANN Board of Directors, ICANN has approved RegistryPro's proposal to make changes to our registry operator agreement that will allow licensed professionals throughout the world to register .PRO domains.

"This is a significant milestone for .PRO," said RegistryPro General Manager Catherine Sigmar. "ICANN has given us the opportunity to bring .PRO to the entire global community of licensed and credentialed professionals. We're excited that millions of eligible professionals will soon have access to one of the most recognizable designations in the world - .PRO.

"Professionals spend years reaching the highest levels of education, knowledge, and skill in their chosen fields, which is why designations like MD and PE carry so much weight. We believe the .PRO TLD will flourish once professionals realize the value of adding the words 'dot pro' to their on-line identity.

".PRO transcends so many cultures and languages: "Professional (Spanish), Professionnel (French), Professionista (Italian), Professioneel (Dutch). These are just a few languages and regions we expect will begin using .PRO in the coming months.

Since launching in 2004, access to the .PRO TLD has been restricted to accountants, engineers, lawyers, and medical professionals in Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States.

"By the end of this year, sites will emerge using .PRO that have outstanding content and we're especially interested to see new professionals choose .PRO. Our research shows that young professionals entering the on-line market place today find it difficult to establish relevant on-line identities. What you see is unintuitive use of workarounds like hyphens, alternate spellings or exceptionally long domains.

"We understand this is a major shift and we encourage current registrants to contact their sponsoring registrars if they have any questions about how these changes impact them," said Sigmar. "Our first and main priority now is to help registrants and registrars determine how the new agreement affects them and then educate professionals internationally about the benefits of the .PRO TLD."

Proposed Contract Amendments from RegistryPro Posted for Public Comment

RegistryPro is pleased to announce that ICANN has posted RegistryPro�s proposal to make various changes to our contract for 30 days of public comment. This proposal was created after several months of focused work with ICANN, our Advisory Board, current and prospective registrars and registrants, and it represents the cornerstone of RegistryPro�s vision for the evolution of the .PRO TLD. Our proposed changes include:

Allowing all credentialed professionals to access the .PRO TLD
Allowing all registrants to register second level resolving domains
Implementation of a Terms of Use agreement
Nine new profession specific second level domains
A reconfiguration of the RegistryPro Advisory Board

Additionally, our Application for New Registry Services Request #2008003 for the release of three character numeric second level domains will also be posted, since ICANN�s initial determination did not identify any significant competition or security and stability issues.

Advisory Board Supports Changes to ICANN Agreement

RegistryPro�s Advisory Board has issued a statement supporting several proposed modifications to our agreement with ICANN. The complete proposal, which includes changes to .PRO registration restrictions, new profession-specific second level domains, and a restructuring of the Board itself, was drafted by the registry over several months with guidance from ICANN and input from professionals throughout the world. It was approved by the RegistryPro Advisory Board in late January.

In his letter to ICANN, Board Chair Steven Wright wrote: “The Advisory Board discussed these and the other changes in the amendment package in two telephone conferences, in November and December 2007, with further discussion by email. A vote was held in January 2008, and the proposal to support RegistryPro's proposed amendments was adopted without dissent.�

The proposal has been sent to ICANN for preliminary review and staff comment.
