@Scooter The track you’re referring to is “Song of Life” by Leftfield. Really sweet mix from that into LaTour “Blue” (Hermes Trance Mix). Breakdowns drop together - tight.

Shannon,

I really like your deconstruction of the night. The recollection of the facts from the scene, intrepting the sets is just a nice touch to just hearing the music again from a party that was a pretty damned important experiential event.

I remember Dave telling me that he told the Shriners he was booking the venue for a music video. I remember how destroyed the floor was after the event….maybe that part is a metaphor for the shadier side of nyc coming to new england.

I do remember thinking how clever the scene was at the time. Everything was art: the music, the kids tweaking clothes, the laser, the HUGE bass bins.

Wonderland was my first party. Laura LaGassa turned me on to NE-Raves. From there, I found Boston Beat in Eastie. Went to Wonderland with my girl and watched her to skip to breakbeat by Shawn. WooowwwwW! Thanks for the skip down memory lane.

I don’t suppose you have mixtaps of Repete (nyc)?

Great memories here. What track is this that starts around 15:00? It was a huge favorite of mine and one of the few tracks I actually haven’t heard in the last fifteen years.

@Walls - I don’t know why they decided to do Blue the day before Valentine’s day, instead of calling it Red.

@Whoa - No idea if Tin Tin is still spinning. I don’t recall seeing him on a flier after Independance.

Thanks for posting this. I remember us listening to this in your room or on a road trip. Question: Do you or maybe any of those in the know, know the reason for not having this a Valentine Party and calling it Blue instead of RED being a day before the big Love day?????

@HAZMAT Thanks for the lineup. I’ve had this tape since just after the party so I don’t think it was edited. It’s just that I’ve got tapes from other parties where one side is from one time in the night and the other side is from another time in the night. So maybe the three tracks at the beginning are the end of Colin Dale’s set and Tin Tin fades out Age of Love on him.

Hard to believe it’s been 16yrs, how many rave empires have risen and fallen since then?
Who’d you get this tape from? It’s entirely possible that someone along the way edited the tape to make it flow. Otherwise, as far as I can recall,the lineup went Overload->AdamX->Lenny Dee->Colin Dale->TinTin->Bob Bently->OnE

I made a small mistake with the markup in that, if you downloaded the mix using the link ‘Download the mp3′ before Sunday morning, 2/15/09 10am PST, you got Episode 2 (by Markus Mehta). This has been corrected. The flash player has always played the right file. Just found the reason why iTunes wasn’t showing the new episode; this has also been fixed so if you subscribe via iTunes the new episode should be downloading shortly.

digging the track at -31:24, overall bing bang we’re off and then I’m finding myself at a native american tribal gathering where it’s rather dark, a real techno affair oh wait something just changed at -24:10, some sweet pads, I’m not a minimal fan unless it’s got vibe and this one just started vibing..now at -16:31 REALLY like this one (shannon send me this track) now we’re talkin! some house goodness at -11:20 much more my style and continuing on in to the magic -8:08 time, a funky almost carribbean guitar lends itself to the diversity found here,then we’re deeply underwater off the coast of lebanon perhaps.. finishing with a touch of creative classical-ness

Hehe, totally. I’m sure I’ve got some records I need to get rid of. I’ve never gotten rid of anything. Fortunately the vinyl acquisition finally halted a while back when I went all digital. That’s an interesting idea for a podcast; I could call it, “Records I don’t want/need anymore” or “Up for grabs.”
