Also in the second inning, J.D. Drew hit a 2-run double to left field which scored Mark Kotsay and Nick Green, making it 4-0. In the third inning, Green doubled to left field which scored Jason Varitek, making it a 5-0 lead. In the fourth inning, Mike Lowell singled to center driving in Kevin Youkilis making it 6-0. In the seventh inning, Green hit a solo home run to make it 7-0.

Red Sox starter Josh Beckett pitched 6 innings, allowing only 1 hit, striking out 8 and walking 1. Beckett got the win and is now 7-2. Yankees starter A.J. Burnett pitched 2.2 innings, allowing 5 hits, 5 runs (3 earned), striking out 1 and walking 5. Burnett got the loss and is now 4-3.

Johnny Damon talked about the dominance the Red Sox have had against the Yankees this season.

"They've taken it to us so far this year," said Yankees -- and former Red Sox -- outfielder Johnny Damon. After the 3rd inning, the score was 4-0 Yankees. In the 4th inning, Robinson Cano hit a 2-run double to make it 6-0 Yankees. In the bottom of the 4th inning, it was Boston's turn. Jason Bay singled, which drove in a run making it 6-1 Yankees. Jason Varitek hit a grand slam to make it a 6-5 Yankees lead.

Then in the 5th inning, Jacoby Ellsbury hit a solo home run to tie the game 6-6. Jason Bay comes through again, this time hitting a 2-run double giving the Red Sox the 8-6 lead. But the Yankees wouldn't back down as in the 6th inning, Johnny Damon hit a 2-run home run to tie the game 8-8. Back and forth we go. For the Red Sox in the 6th inning, David Ortiz hit a sec fly to make it a 9-8 lead for the Red Sox.

In the 7th inning, the Yankees scored twice on a Dustin Pedroia error making it a 10-9 Yankees lead. In the bottom of the 7th inning, Mike Lowell hit a 3-run home run to make it a 12-10 Red Sox lead. In the top of the 8th inning, Yankees' Robinson Cano hit a solo home run making it a 12-11 Red Sox lead. In the bottom of the 8th inning the Red Sox packed it on making sure the Yankees couldn't come back. First Dustin Pedroia hit an RBI single making it 13-11 Red Sox. Then Mike Lowell hit a 3-run double making it a 16-11 Red Sox lead.

Red Sox starter Josh Beckett pitched 5 innings, allowing 10 hits, 8 runs, striking out 3 and walking 4, while giving up 2 home runs. Hideki Okajima pitched 0.2 innings, walking 1 and giving up a home run, but he got the win and is 2-0 this season now. Yankees starter A.J. Burnett pitched 5 innings, allowing 8 hits, 8 runs, striking out 3 and walking 3, while also giving up 2 home runs. Yankees Jonathan Albaladejo got the loss and is 2-1 now. Mike Lowell finished the game going 2 for 5, scoring 1 run, with 6 RBIs. Jason Bay went 2 for 3, scoring 3 runs, with 3 RBIs.

You can watch video highlights of this game on MLB.com here.

The Red Sox lead the season series 2-0 now.

But as we all know the Red Sox have owned maybe the best reliever/closer in the game the past few seasons. With Kevin Youkilis on first base after his single, Jason Bay came up and hit a 2-run home run to tie the game and send it in extra innings. In the 11th inning, Kevin Youkilis hit a walk-off solo home run off of Yankees' Damaso Marte to win the game for the Red Sox.

Kevin Youkilis and teammates celebrate his walk-off home run

For the Red Sox, Jon Lester started and pitched 6 innings, allowing 7 hits, 2 runs, walking 3, and striking out 7. Hideki Okajima came in and got no one out, giving up 4 hits and 2 runs. Manny Delcarmen pitched 1 inning giving up no hits. Takashi Saito pitched 1 inning, walking 1 and striking out 1. Javier Lopez pitched 1 inning, and walked 2. Jonathan Papelbon pitched 1 inning allowing 1 hit, walking 1 and striking out 1. Ramon Ramirez pitched 1 inning, allowing 1 hit and walking 1. Ramirez got the win and is 2-0 now.

For the Yankees, Joba Chamberlain started and pitched 5.1 innings, allowing 9 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), walking 4 and striking out 2. Rivera got his first blown save of the season and Marte got the loss.

What a first game of the season between these two teams. Red Sox now with the 1-0 season series lead. It came down to the 9th inning, as Mariano Rivera allowed a run to make it 2-1, and then he got out of a bases loaded jam to get his 23rd save of the season. Rivera did get help from the home plate umpire as some pitches looked to be balls and not strikes. Yankees starter Mike Mussina also got some calls his way, as he pitched 6 innings, allowed 4 hits, 0 runs, had 5 strikeouts, and 1 walk. Mussina got the win and is now 11-6. Red Sox starter Justin Masterson pitched 6 innings, allowed 6 hits, allowed 2 runs, had 2 strikeouts, and 2 walks. Masterson is now 4-3 this season.

And so there was something weird. In the 3rd inning, Red Sox Kevin Youkilis hit a line drive that Yankees Johnny Damon caught in his glove but then he crashed into the wall and the ball bounced on top of the outfield wall and sat there for a second and then landed back inside the park for it to still be a fair/live ball and not a home run. Youkilis ended up with a 2-run triple, while Damon came out of the game with a sprained and bruised left shoulder. You can watch the video of this crazy play below. So far this young season Ramirez has been on fire. Last night Manny hit went 3 for 5 with two home runs off of Mike Mussina, 3 RBIs, and 3 runs scored. In the 7th inning though, Yankees reliever Kyle Farnsworth threw a pitch 97 mph fastball behind Ramirez's neck on the first pitch to him. After the game Farnsworth said "It just slipped. I was trying to be aggressive and go in on him." After the game Ramirez said "We hit one of the best players and I guess they want to send a message and that's what they did. They've got to back up their players and he did."

Derek Jeter had this to say about the Farnsworth pitch, "He said it got away, so I guess that's the end of it. I get hit all the time. Getting hit hurts. Delcarmen struck out Alex Rodriguez and Hideki Matsui grounded out to second to end the game.

Red Sox slugger David Ortiz got the day off as he is struggling this season, going only 3 for 43, the worst start he has had in his career. Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter did not play in this game as well. The final score was 8-5.

The Red Sox now lead the season series 2-1.
