As part of my internship I was required to read Spiritual Leadership by J. Osawald Sanders. I liked the way that the book covered many areas of spiritual leadership with each chapter focusing on a separate aspect of a spiritual leader. One of the chapters that stood out to me the most was the one on Prayer. Sanders mentions how we tend to resist prayer in spite of how scripture is filled with examples of people finding enjoyment in prayer and turning to prayer in even the most trying of circumstances. He went on to express how we should strive to pray more and to do so more passionately. This area is one in which I could use a lot more work. I don't find myself praying as much as I should. I don't pray for my city or those around me, so, that Is an area that I need to be working on and praying about.
One of the aspects of the book that I found most enjoyable was the way that Sanders brought in stories of christians that came before us who exemplified the characteristics that were discussed in each chapter. This method made all the characteristics more relevant because it showed me that, more than just lofty goals in Leadership, that people can really experienced these traits in their lives.
Since the Book covered so many areas of leadership I found that many areas actually applied to me. In one of the chapters Sanders states that a leader cannot lead where he has not gone himself. this struck me because It made me realize that if I want to be able to lead people spiritually and pour into others that I must first be investing more time in spending time in the word and telling others about what God is doing in my life. I need to strive to be growing closer to God if I want to be able to be nurturing that sort of growth in others.
It was good that Sanders did not choose to paint leadership as just a simple and easy occupation. He includes multiple chapters towards the end of the book where he breaks down the cost and responsibilities of leadership. These chapters served to put into light the realities that Spiritual leadership demands a lot physically and emotionally from the person in the position of leadership. I am not sure if I fully agree with the statement that Sanders makes that "the lot of a leader must be a lonely one." I feel that Leaders should search out other christians who can support them in their leadership and bring commandery in their walk. To do otherwise doesn't seem healthy spiritually or physically for an individual. However, this is just a personal thought on this issue.
In general, the book was real deep and had many areas that I enjoyed. I would write more about my thoughts on the book but it is getting late and I need sleep. However I may write more on this as I find time to do so.

Scripture-

1 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people,
2 for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
3 This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,
4 who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
Observations-

Who- Paul To Timothy

Why- Prayer is important because God wants all men to be saved and come to knowledge of the truth.

How do we see God- The whole chapter has God as the underlying point. It is because of Christ that the chapter is being written.

When- during the early church when Nero was emperor and there was persecution of the church.

Application-

Prayer should be made for everyone. Am I praying for others or am I mainly praying for myself? Is my prayer life really reflecting this? Why not? When did I become more of a focus then God's desire for others? I should be praying for others because Jesus is the only way to God. Why don't I have a passion for people that drives me to pray for them.

It seams to me that we have missed something. We don't pray for those responsible for causing us harm. Paul is saying to Timothy that he should pray for those in power who were ultimately responsible for persecution in the early church. Why is this not present in the majority of american christianity today?

Prayer- That God would give me a heart for people. That I would care enough to pray for them even when they hurt me in some way. That my prayer for others would not be dependent on who they are but on the fact that they exist which makes them valuable enough to invest time in prayer for them.

As part of my new internship one of the things that I am supposed to do is post about what I am reading in the bible. To that end here is my first such post following the SOAP method of study.

Scripture -

15 The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.

16 But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life.

17 To the King of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

Observation

Who- Paul is writing this letter to Timothy.

Why does it matter- It reveals the way that Paul viewed himself in relation to what God had and was doing in his life. It also displays the gospel in a shortened form.

How- We see God throughout this chapter in that the whole chapter references God and ow he is responsible for the salvation of man.

When- during the early church.

Application-

Do I have the vision of Paul when it comes to my position in Christ? In verse 15-17 Paul reveals that Christ used him to display his patience for those who did not believe. Am I seing my life as an example for others of God's Grace?Am I realizing that my life is lived in full view of others who are watching how I react to situations and are judging if what I say I believe is truth? I should have this view but so often I don't. I focus on myself instead of what God has done and the implications that they bring. I should focus more on what God has done and let that affect how I live my life.

Prayer-

That I would Grow in the realization of how God draws people to himself and that I would be able to share the passion that he Paul displayed for what Christ has and is doing in my life.

Hey all,

I recently started a summer internship with my church and consequentially am required to have a blog detailing my experiences as an intern. This Is a positive on many levels as I now have reason to update this blog and hopefully I will get into a habit of posting more. The last few weeks of interning have been pretty fun with me having the opportunity to shot and edit a lot of video. I will probably be uploading some of them to here as I find time. I will also be posting concerning the articles and sermons that I am required to read as an intern. So now that you know what's going on you won't be surprised by the change in content that I am posting. Check back soon.

God Bless,

So I just got my hands on the Technical preview for Office 2010 and wanted to test out some of the features that it has. That being the case one of the first things that I wanted to test was Words ability to post directly to a blog. For the most part Office 2010 is like its predecessor Office 2007. It sports a slightly updated interface though for the most part it remains the same. I hope to be able to inform you of any neat improvements that I find during the process of testing the software. For now here is a screenshot of word 2010.

Hey All,

I know that it’s been a while since I last posted so I wanted to get something up here. To that end, I was wondering what I could talk about that would be influential and informative. The logical conclusion of course was Twitter, that mysterious piece of social communication software that everyone is talking about. In this post I will simply outline what twitter is, what it does, and why you would use it. So, without further ado lets get into the topic of Twitter.

So what is twitter?

I realize that I could spend a good deal of time explaining what twitter is but I believe that twitter sums it up nicely on their front page on Twitter.com where they say “Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?”. So twitter is simply a system useful for conveying information (in 140 characters or less) about what’s going on to those around you (known on twitter as your followers). The system also can utilize text messaging from your cell phone to allow you to post on the go.

Who twitters?

To put it simply, anyone can twitter. there are famous people who twitter, companies who twitter, and random Joes such as myself who all add their thoughts and comments to the web via the twittersphere.

So Why Twitter?

To sum it all up twitter is a great source for community and answers. It plugs you in to a large pool of other people from a wide variety of sources some with something interesting to say (others without) allowing for networking and communication with others. Twitter can also be used to update your Facebook status and has a lot of other websites that connect with it to expand their functionality. All in all, Twitter allows for the user to access useful information and ignore the stuff that they do not care about on the web.

Well I hope you found that information helpful.

god Bless,
Josh

All you really need is an exact-o knife and a printer to be able to complete these creatures. I made the Storm trooper and it didn't take that long. So, if you think it sounds interesting check it out and create your own model.

I love music, especially free music. So I Thought why not post about the places that I rely on to get free music legally. I was going to give the post a title like "Top 10 sources for wickedly awesome music" but then I realized that I really don't use that many web sites and the words "wickedly awesome" doesn't exactly describe the topic. Then I was going to call it "Top 5 Sources of Free legal Music" but I didn't have five readily at hand and I wanted to post this as soon as possible. So decided to cover "Three Great Sources of Free legal Music". Anyway, all of the websites that I am going to post are legitimate sources for music and i have either tried them or plan on trying them soon. So enough of the chitchat lets get on to the real reason of this post.

I love music, especially free music. So I Thought why not post about the places that I rely on to get free music legally. I was going to give the post a title like “Top 10 sources for wickedly awesome music” but then I realized that I really don’t use that many web sites and the words “wickedly awesome” doesn’t exactly describe the topic. Then I was going to call it “Top 5 Sources of Free legal Music” but I didn’t have five readily at hand and I wanted to post this as soon as possible. So decided to cover “Three Great Sources of Free legal Music”. Anyway, all of the websites that I am going to post are legitimate sources for music and I have either tried them or plan on trying them soon. So enough of the chitchat lets get on to the real reason of this post.

The Free Christian Music Blog

The Free Christian Music Blog is probably the most obvious source for music that I have. The general Idea behind the blog is to inform people about all of the free christian music that is out there (hence the name). I have used the site to find a lot of my music and with some digging you could easily add a hundred songs to your music library.

Indie Vision Music

Indie Vision music has to be my favorite website to find songs on. They have multiple compilations each with fifty plus songs that they have released throughout he past few years. Besides that they occasionally post when a band is releasing a free CD.

Noise Trade

Noise Trade is a website where Bands upload their music for people to Pay what you want or download for free. The small catch with the website is that in order to get the music for free you have to give your email and the emails of five friends. I actually haven’t tried it yet for this reason but if anyone has a junk email address that they wouldn’t mind me giving the email address to I would be up for giving mine as well. Anyway, there are a bunch of real good bands on the site like Esterlyn and “The Glorious Unseen” along with others that you may want to check out. I can’t vouch for the cleanliness of all of he music but I do know that there are some good clean bands on it.

I hope that all of this info was helpful. If you enjoyed it feel free to comment on this post or send me an email through the contact page.

God Bless,
Josh
