Find a new shooter who hasn't been to the range and experienced the joy of shooting before.
Download a target off our site and take them to the range.
Snap a photo of the new shooter with their target and upload it to our site.
You'll get a coupon code that's good for two boxes of free 9mm ammo from Magtech - along with free shipping.

Challenge Accepted ... that is, if i can find anyone around here that qualifies as a new shooter. Hmm, this may be a bit more of a challenge than it appeared to be.

What does it mean to you ?

Dunno about you, but we celebrate this day with family and friends. It is our day, we cherish it, we embrace it. We even play music ... maybe get up and dance. We celebrate with food, camaraderie and fireworks. Especially the the firearms kinda fireworks. It's who we are. It's what we do.

As readers/subscribers to this authors paltry chickenscratch, cut and paste, hit-and-miss posting ... I'm quite sure that the price our brethren have paid for this 'holiday' is never far from your minds. I believe this to be true, for the price we pay is heart wrenching ...

So lets honor their dedication. Lets honor their sacrifice. Let us honor them, with our celebratory spirit, for we are Americans!

I wish you a happy and safe Independence Day.

Ohio CHL changes

The status of Ohio accepting Arizona's non-resident CWP has changed. Ohio now recognizes all AZ permits including non-resident. This means that an OH resident (or resident from any state) can carry in OH on an AZ non-res CWP.

Gary Slider will be updating Handgunlaw.us to reflect these changes in the very near future.

Apparently FN thinks it would be a good time to start selling AR's now. And it probably is.

And since i don't have a flying car or hover board yet ... dammit, having an old school RayGun lool-a-like will have to suffice. At first glance, my aversion to this was akin to a 12 year old being paired off with a fat girl in a junior high dance class. After looking at it a bit more i'm, lets say, curious.

Here's some more info on the 9mm debate. I'm not surprised, and i'm sure most of you aren't either.

This goes out to a couple of vendors i've done business with lately.

When looking for a folding Front Sight/Gas Block awhile back. All American Supplies, a veteran owned business, was the only vendor i found to have it in stock. And at the time, i might add, the best price on this item anywhere.

And just last week i found ROG Tactical. They had the Vltor A5 kit (sans stock) that i've been looking for.

Alternate title: Down the path to 'The Dark Side'

Awhile back, i ordered a blem lower from Aero Precision. I was impressed enough to order a couple more when they went on sale again. Here's a pic of the first one. It does have a noticable blemish. The other two purchased (with consecutive serial numbers) have blems that are much smaller and very hard to see.

I paired this with the pictured Yankee Hill upper and gave it to my son for his birthday. Along with some other odds and ends for AR's.

Soon i'll have some pic's and details of one of the lowers that was recently built.

Since the DOJ refuses to give GZ's gun back, there have been a lot of offers to get him a new one. The Buckeye Firearms Association has raised enough greenbacks, since July 19th, to send him a check for $12,150.37. Which he recieved last Friday via FedEx.

Around the 24th their website went down. Went down HARD. A cyber-attack had it down for at least four days. Apparently they've been recieving a huge amount of death threats since the fundraiser was announced.

Ken Hanson, Legal Counsel for Buckeye Firearms Foundation, will appear on CNN with none other than Piers "i'll deport myself" Morgan to discuss the fundraiser. You can watch it HERE at 9 PM EST

Last nights post worked fine when it was posted, but some of the graphics refused to show up this morning. The first one, before the video, with a fireworks display saying justice has finally been served refused to 'appear'.

The last one, after the video, with a bunch of peoples wearing their "we are all trayvon" shirts also refused to make an appearance ...

Dunno what the problem was but after fiddlimg with the HTML for an hour or so, i was still unable to get them working again.

So ... it was removed.

Rain day today, so i'm finally get caught up on a few household chores. Been busy as hell lately ...

A goodyear blimp was lazily flying in circles last week over Akron, and i was kinda startled when at one point it looked like it was on a bomb run. Diving straight at me. Wasnt able to get a pic of it, so here's one from the web to show what i was seeing.

By the time i got the iphone camera into action, it had pulled the nose up and was peeling off in a turn to port.

This working for a living crap has kept me pretty busy so far this year. Because of that, I'm really "outta the loop" on most things these days. I knew that ammo has been in short supply lately, what with the panic buying and all, but am stunned at the current prices.

Stunned i tell ya.

Apparently the price has doubled in my absence.

My search for 1000 rds. of 9mm-115gr FMJ training ammo has produced the low, low, rock-bottom price of $700 !!!

And i need 2 cases ...

Not sure what to make of this. Two compainies with KickStarteresqe funding projects have 80% lower receivers available. The price is certainly right if you'd like to finish one out, and one is even a billet.

The Coalbank Metal Works project is 49% funded.

The Sierra Nevada Arms project is 70% funded.

There seems to be a noticable trend in conversations with people that carry a handgun everyday. It would seem that carrying in condition 3 is normal for most new toters. Yes, i also did this for a time. This new responsibility combined with a self-inflicted mental 'mark of cain' syndrome appears to be a bit overwhelming at first. Doing the WalMart walk of shame doesn't do much to alleviate that feeling either ...

A lot of that insecurity is probably directly related to the individual carry method, or choice of belt and holster. Until one feels secure in the fact that they are carrying safely and securely, their confidence isn't going to be at a very high level. Having your gat fall on the floor right in front of Paul Blart isn't exactly going to help. As one progresses through the learning curve with the different holster choices for different wardrobes, their confidence continues to increase. Even with some 'handgun carry' training and even experience in shooting competitions, some are simply not mentaly ready to carry in condition 1 yet.

During these discussions, my experiences are related to help others understand that this is a perfectly normal way for some people to feel. Once they accept the fact that they aren't, in fact weirdo's, we can get beyond that to the next step. By this i don't mean calesthenics or MMA grappling, but working to gain confidence in daily carry gear. Then get them out of their 'comfort zone' and practice things that they are unaccustomed to doing. No, not the James Yaegerdouche skool-of-live-fire-target-holding. Get them some more advanced training, shoot at longer ranges, try and pick up your speed working at closer distances, shoot from retention, etc.

Working with a timer is very good practice for this. Hell, even exposing them to the Tueller Drill can be a real eye opener for some.
