This working for a living crap has kept me pretty busy so far this year. Because of that, I'm really "outta the loop" on most things these days. I knew that ammo has been in short supply lately, what with the panic buying and all, but am stunned at the current prices.

Stunned i tell ya.

Apparently the price has doubled in my absence.

My search for 1000 rds. of 9mm-115gr FMJ training ammo has produced the low, low, rock-bottom price of $700 !!!

And i need 2 cases ...

Not sure what to make of this. Two compainies with KickStarteresqe funding projects have 80% lower receivers available. The price is certainly right if you'd like to finish one out, and one is even a billet.

The Coalbank Metal Works project is 49% funded.

The Sierra Nevada Arms project is 70% funded.

There seems to be a noticable trend in conversations with people that carry a handgun everyday. It would seem that carrying in condition 3 is normal for most new toters. Yes, i also did this for a time. This new responsibility combined with a self-inflicted mental 'mark of cain' syndrome appears to be a bit overwhelming at first. Doing the WalMart walk of shame doesn't do much to alleviate that feeling either ...

A lot of that insecurity is probably directly related to the individual carry method, or choice of belt and holster. Until one feels secure in the fact that they are carrying safely and securely, their confidence isn't going to be at a very high level. Having your gat fall on the floor right in front of Paul Blart isn't exactly going to help. As one progresses through the learning curve with the different holster choices for different wardrobes, their confidence continues to increase. Even with some 'handgun carry' training and even experience in shooting competitions, some are simply not mentaly ready to carry in condition 1 yet.

During these discussions, my experiences are related to help others understand that this is a perfectly normal way for some people to feel. Once they accept the fact that they aren't, in fact weirdo's, we can get beyond that to the next step. By this i don't mean calesthenics or MMA grappling, but working to gain confidence in daily carry gear. Then get them out of their 'comfort zone' and practice things that they are unaccustomed to doing. No, not the James Yaegerdouche skool-of-live-fire-target-holding. Get them some more advanced training, shoot at longer ranges, try and pick up your speed working at closer distances, shoot from retention, etc.

Working with a timer is very good practice for this. Hell, even exposing them to the Tueller Drill can be a real eye opener for some.

It was a balmy 18° Ohio morning for a 45 minute wait in line, but at least it seemed to go fast. Glad i had a fresh, large cup 'o joe to keep me warm. The line stretched from the entrance ...

Surprisingly enough, due to all of the panic buying lately, there were ample supplies of firearms available. There was row upon row just like the pic below.

Handguns were still reasonably priced, but rifles are another story, and a bit high IMO. Magazines on the other hand were priced all over the place, from reasonably high to just plain stoopid ignorant. For example, windowed Pmags in one row were $28 in one row and $50 in the next and $75 further down. Seen some WW2 era used (and showing considerable wear) .30 M1 carbine mags for $20, and the next aisle over were brand new ones for the same price.

Ammo was krazy-priced, all over the map, just like the mags. Go figure ...

Here's something that puzzles me. Upgrading the AK safety lever to one easier to disengage is a desirable trait indeed, but one to engage the safety ?!?!?

Seen a lot of interesting things and talked with some very entertaining people. One older gentleman, with very heavily accented English, welcomed the chance to give me the history on a .32 short Belgian Bulldog. A cute lil bugger with a folding trigger.

Oh ... and then there was the Luger. Sorry for the glare from the lighting and any drool on the glass ...

The display of New York compliant arms wasn't getting much business at all, and the ammo was quite spendy, to say the least ...

All in all, it was a good show. Far better than most of the previous ones. Unfortunately my search for miscellaneous AR parts was a bust.

Wednesday, Governor Kasich signed House Bill 495 into law. It was amended from the original for passage. The hold up was the reciprocity part that they want to "get right" the first time. IMO the first two points are frikkin awesome !

Eliminates the "demonstrated competency" requirement for second and future CHL renewals, making CHL training similar to a hunting license.

Fixes the definition of a "loaded gun" to match the commonly accepted definition.

Allows law-abiding gun owners to have their firearms stored in their cars in the state-owned parking garages such as the one under the Statehouse.

There is so much wrong with the video, as far as nomenclature is concerned, that my head hurts. Seriously? Permits? Even the Sheriff incorrectly identifies the licences as permits.

Oh, and whoever wrote the article really should get a dictionary. I'm quite sure they meant to write 'moral terpitude' and not what they really wrote ...

I am going to try something new! It's kinda mind-bogglingly strange really, since i do not own one and haven't even fired one before. Still gathering the required gear to attend the LSHD Quirks of the Kalashnikov course next month. Still need a mag pouch, but that's it.

Since it's common knowledge that most 'battlefield' pick-ups are gonna be AK pattern rifles it's only prudent to prepare. Right? Seriously tho', nothin's gonna work better during the zombie 'poxiclypse. Right? And ammo will be laying everywhere. Right?

Today's 24 mile freefall, by Felix Baumgartner, was absolutely spectacular. Tam piqued my interest to 'tune in' and watch it on utube. Old NFO posted about it including a tale of one of the luckiest men to be alive. It's a must read.

Unfortunately i missed the good parts and had to watch it after it was posted to utube.

My connection got a bit sketchy and had to keep reloading the damn feed. Maybe the number of viewers was causing the server to melt ... or something.
