Is your email client (Mail, Outlook, Thunderbird etc) reporting that your Google password is incorrect even though you know it is correct?

This problem troubles a lot of users of the Google Apps product (both the free and paid versions) and has an easy, albeit annoying, fix.

If you receive either of these messages in your mail client :

or

invalid credentials

Check that your login details are correct obviously. If you know them to be correct, you have been locked out from your Google account.

To correct this, go to https://www.google.com/a/yourdomain.com/UnlockCaptcha (replace yourdomain.com with your domain name)

Enter your login credentials and you should have successfully unlocked your Google account.

Many things can trigger the problem to occur such as;

• a weak password
• your email client checking for messages too frequently
• the password entered incorrectly multiple times

Some users report that they see less occurrences of this problem after increasing the length or complexity of their Google password.

A few months after the US launch, iTunes Match has arrived in the UK. The service costs £21.99 per year and allows up to 25,000 songs to be synched between 5 iOS devices.

Apple have released the iOS 5.0.1 system for iOS devices. This update addresses poor battery life and includes some other minor improvements; original iPad users will now be able to utilise the multi-touch gestures, resolves glitches with Documents in the Cloud and improves some language recognition features.

iOS 5.0.1 is the first update that users can install without having to connect to iTunes. The ‘Over the Air’ update can be installed by going to “Settings”, then “General”, and then “Software Update”.

It is recommended that your device is connected to a power source during the process, which should complete in approximately ten minutes and it must be on a WiFi connection.

Apple will today release the iOS5 software for all iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPads, two days before the launch of the new iPhone4S handset.

This software update introduces new features such as; updating your device wirelessly, iMessage (a form of messaging similar to Blackberry’s BBM), Twitter integration, a new Notification system, iCloud (a free, updated version of the previous MobileMe) as well as various improvements to existing apps such as Mail, Safari and the Camera.

The new voice-controlled system Siri, is unavailable in this update and will only be a feature on the new iPhone4S handsets.

iOS5 is available from within iTunes when your device is connected (‘Check for Update’ button if not prompted automatically).

To fix the issue, click the Update option within Security Essentials and update to the 1.113.815.0 version. Once complete you can go to Google to re-install Chrome.

Check that you are ready for Lion now.
