I mentioned earlier that I enjoyed watching Avatar in IMAX 3D (where available) but sadly its overwhelming success around the world has led to yet another trend in Hollywood. I'm sure this trend will plague us for years to come until it finally dies a the hands of the next annoying trend. I'm speaking, of course, of 3D. Once Hollywood saw the amazing success of Avatar in 3D Hollywood execs went crazy trying to upgrade every movie currently in production to 3D regardless of the movie's content, story, or quality.  Written on my whiteboard for  a few weeks now has been the note, "3D does not make crap movies better!"

I've planned to do a strip about it for awhile but today's dive into the Tubes brings us David Mitchell Soapbox where he addresses the issue from a more articulate viewpoint. He has a British accent so I'm inclined to feel he's smarter than me and believe whatever he says. This is the latest from his series of "Soapbox" spots where he gives a good rant about various subjects. I highly recommend you check all of them.

Come out and meet me September 10-12 in Rockville, MD at Intervention 2010. This will be both my first time having a table at a convention and my first time being a guest of a convention so the only way to make it even more special is for you to be there with me!

Joining me at the table will be my new con assistant Natali, who you probably know as UberDorkGirlie from Twitter, the UberDork Café and the Power Geeks Podcast. Also attending the con will be the Big Kahuna himself, Kevin Copeland from Beach Mac and the 757 Comic & Cartoon Creators group. So basically two of the people who help keep my online life online.

This looks to be an awesome weekend, especially if you can show up so that I get to meet you in person. It will be Reality in reality!

I saw Avatar in IMAX 3-D with a pal and his son. I enjoyed the movie and thought the CGI was very impressive. There were several times during the film that I had to remind myself that nothing I was seeing was real outside of a computer. Since then I've heard about the people that have taken the movie a little more seriously that I did. I can't say that I felt especially moved by the retelling of the Pocahontas story or that I felt any  kind of need to return to Pandora. Apparently some folks did.

(There's a few spots of grown-up language and half-dressed blue people abound.)

Cathy Guisewite has decided to end her syndicated comic strip "Cathy" after 34 years in the papers. For as long as I can remember reading newspaper comics I remember reading Cathy. In my hometown paper it was located just under the Peanuts when I was a kid.

Congratulations, Cathy, on a great run.
