This is Coby, a 6 year old male Rat Terrier and a very handsome classic looking boy! He is approximately 18 pounds and 14 inches tall at the shoulder, with a nub of a tail. Coby acts much younger than his age and even his pink belly makes you think he is still just a pup! Coby can run like lightening and jump like a rabbit. He LOVES to give kisses and can be pretty stealthy at it too, sneaking kisses in when you aren’t expecting them. Coby is living in his foster home with several fur siblings, including 3 smaller Rat Terriers and 2 much bigger Labradoodles, and is good with children. Coby listens well and walks nicely on a leash. He will run around and play with great speed, but then is ready to cuddle up next to you for a nap. He likes playing with toys and we’ve caught him hiding them around the house, presumably to keep them all to himself! Although he would prefer to sleep under the covers, there just isn’t enough room for everyone, so he sleeps at the foot of the bed on a pillow atop a hope chest. If invited to, Coby can jump up 5ft onto the bed from a standing position. He is a fast learner and very quickly adjusted to his foster family’s household. He even learned that he can reach the counter top if he hops up onto one of the stools at the counter! Coby enjoys the back yard, running around chasing squirrels and barking at anything that might be on the other side of the fence! After a while playing, a nap on the deck in the sun is a favorite spot. Coby is housebroken and doesn’t much like to be crated. In the house, he will tend to whine to get your attention, but is all bark in the yard. He rides on the floor of the back seat in the car and did well on our 5 hour trip to his new temporary home. He had been living on a farm for the past few years but is back in foster care because his owners fell on hard times. Are you looking for your new best friend? Coby is taking applications for a new furever family now! He will be a loyal, loving companion for the lucky family who adopts him. Be sure to let him know, so he can pack his bags to come home!

Scout is a short-legged rat terrier, usually referred to as a “Teddy,” and weighs about 11 pounds. Our vets think he is about a year old, maybe a tad older. He loves to play with toys! He is a sable and white, his coloring is beautiful! He has the cutest bob tail and his ears stand straight up. Scout is house trained and knows how to use the doggie door. He is crate trained but his foster mom likes to let him to sleep next to her (when he falls to sleep he is out like a rock until morning) and he is such a snuggle bug. Scout loves to play with his foster brother and sisters, but he also loves to fall to sleep on a lap if one is available. We are working on food habits he thinks at feeding time all the bowls are for him, but he is learning that is not the case. He is very loving and has not shown any aggression towards anyone. He was a big hit on Easter and everyone in the house held and played with him. His foster mom has not seen any aggression towards any other dogs, and there are plenty of them around so that is not a concern. Scout is especially drawn to children, and doesn’t mind cats at all. He rides well in the car and is no problem walking on a leash, does hesitate a little, but he is just adjusting to his surroundings. Scout does like to chew so he does have to be provided raw hides or safe chew bones, antlers work well and last a long time. For more photos of this cutie, check his album often:
She gets along fine with the cat in her foster home, and likes to ride in the car. She does need some leash training, and we are working on that. Star came from a hoarding situation in NC, and despite her poor start in life, she is housebroken and is great in the crate. She is looking for someone to snuggle on the couch with her and have some patience with her, as she is a bit shy at first. She is quickly learning to trust people again, and she is so smart! We are not sure how she is with kids yet, but to be safe, we would recommend kids over 8 years old because of her size and shyness with new people. Star has a lot of love to give the right family, and she deserves a happy home where she is the center of attention and doted upon. Is that you?

He is Teddy, or a B rat terrier, so he has short legs. He is about 12 pounds and probably about 7 years old. His teeth were in very bad shape and several small front teeth had to be removed because they were loose. Tommy is working on his trust issues. He seems to like all people he meets, even curling up for a nap with them, but he does not like being picked up and hugged. He is also working on letting you handle his feet. Because of this, we feel he would be best in a home with adults or teens who understand his limits. He is housebroken, knows the dog door and really enjoys sleeping on his foster mom’s bed when she lets him, though he is completely comfortable in his crate as well. He gets along wonderfully with the other dogs in the home and plays most often by himself. His favorite thing is sitting with his person and just hanging out. He gets very excited when he sees a leash, and he sits nicely and can stay. For more photos of Tommy Boy, here is his photo album:

Miriam plays very gently with a tennis ball and is learning to walk on a leash. She is house trained and very well behaved. Miriam is great with other friendly dogs and children who play gently. Miriam is about 11 months old. She sleeps through the night and prefers to be right in the middle of her foster parent’s kings size bed with the other Rat Terriers. Miriam would be most happy in a home that provides lots of love, patience and plenty of human time.
