It looks like I've finally gotten a regular internet connection. Shout out to my dude Ahmir for helping me out with that HP support. I will hopefully be dropping jewels about three times a week. The main thing on my mind right now is feeling pretty smooth.I'm gonna regularly iron my clothes, get a haircut every two weeks and shave on a semi recent basis. My main mean of feeling extra smooth are courtesy of my current fascination. And that current fascination are BOAT SHOES. Peep Gameage.

Having never known any Goths, I've never really paid much attention to the scene. My favorite color is black and I think Tim Burton is fresh, but that's about as far Goth as I'll ever go. Not hating, just saying.

I stumbled upon this wondrous of websites this morning at work that made me think, what the hell do goths wear in the summertime? Apparently, the answer is the same things they always wear. heavy makeup,black,boots,leather and rubber.

Mexico City is the #6 place in the world that I cannot wait to visit. Japan #1, Brazil #2, NYC #3, Puerto Rico #4, Paris #5 and Mexico City #6. I have at least 100 reasons that I want to go visit Mexico City. Seeing the historic churches, all of their museums, the Aztec sites, luchador wrestling matches and the open air markets are some of my main reasons. As a music dude, of course I want to explore the music scenes, especially the electronic music scene. Artists like the Mexican Institute of Sound and Toy Selectah are doing really awesome things combining traditional Mexican/Latin rhythms with electronic sounds.

Shout it out to Mexico City. I can't wait to meet you.

I'm not incredible but I am back. Been limited to internet use at work(blocked) and on my phone (lame). The main thing on my mind right now is building something from the ground on up. Truly making something out of nothing. With the exception of graduating college, I really can't think of something I made out of nothing. And even with that, I was definitely helped by wonderful people along the way. Having just read the last two sentences, I just realized I've actually never built something out of nothing.

The task at hand is building a party from the ground up without already having somewhat of a following. With the exception of my homie Mista B, the rest of us do not have a record of smashing clubs around town. I'm honestly really just starting out and my other friend A.M. Almighty has kinda been playing the low lately.I am determined to not let this stop us and making sure that this party will work. Trust-Us Jones, the party shall survive.

This is going to entail alot more work than I ever would have thought. Personally, I'm all about not talking about things and just doing them, however this is something I don't feel I have the pleasure to fail at, and that is why I may bring you along for the journey. It will work.

The New Mission Theater

After talking with an OG Mission District dude over the weekend about the gentrification of the Mission District, the topic of the New Mission Theater came up. As a kid, I remember seeing doubleheaders of Kickboxer 15 and miscellaneous Kung-Fu flicks. The theater was past its prime in my era. Shout it out to my cousin Jennifer who seen a stabbing while Breakin was on. However, Senor Beto was telling me of a time when Cantinflas movies would play all the time and the audience always being 100% Latino. I found a brief history on the New Mission Theater and I wanted to share it with ya'll.

The New Mission Theater was built by Kahn & Greenfield, at a cost of $250,000. Previously, on the same the site, a much smaller Mission Theatre had operated for about ten years. (For the record, the earlier "Mission" opened around 1907, was renamed the Premium around 1911, one of no less than four "Premium" Theatres in SF at that time, and last operated as the Idle Hour from mid-1913 until it closed in order to be transformed into the entranceway to the new and larger New Mission.)

So successful was the New Mission from the very beginning,that it an additional upper balcony was soon added, and it re-opened on November 15, 1917 with "1000 additional seats"; although this figure may be a bit of a stretch, its total capacity did end up as an officially given 2050. When you consider that all these seats may well have been filled, or at least near filled, not only evenings, but weekend matinees as well, you can get a vague idea of just how many people did once go to the movies, and how often. Add to New Mission, El Capitan, the smaller Cine Latino, Tower, and Grand, and you have about 7500 seats on Mission Street alone. All within about six blocks of each other.

The New Mission finally closed its doors on May 4, 1993.

I'm loving all of this new uptempo R&B coming out. The king of using other producers styles (Jermaine Dupri) has done it all too well this time by using that same method. You can hear the Baltimore influence in the drums and the chopped and screwed influence in the chorus. The cherry on top of the cake is the "Dance to the Drummers Beat" sample that is rocked oh so funkily.

My God, for as much as I want to hate these bastards, they made a hot ass record.

Peep this video of Pharrell and DJ Premier talking about Busta Rhyme and his not wanting to take a picture with Baby Bam of The Jungle Brothers. I love the fact that you can see that Pharrel is a genuine fan of rap music. From calling Premier 'teacher' and bowing down before him to his reciting Jungle Brothers songs and his on point impersonations of Busta Rhymes and Q-Tip.

I feel in love with the music of Jose James as soon as I heard his voice. His voice carries such an amazingly warm and rich tone. Hard yet soft. Distinctively throwback yet fresh and brand new. A Gil-Scott Heron for the future. It's truly organic Soul music for the present.

I stumbled on Jose James via a video of his performance of Park Bench People with Soil and Pimp Sessions backing him. His vocal stylings, voice and performance made me an instant fan. He has since released the Desire & Love 12 inch along with his debut album "The Dreamer".

This is all Cosmo Baker's fault. I mean, I've always loved Saadiq going back to the TTT days, but hearing Cosmo's mix of his work really put it all in perspective. Raphael Saadiq is a genius. Period. Just listen and you'll see. From Tony! Toni! Tone! & Stevie Wonder to Q-Tip & DJ Quik, he is just that dude.

So, without jumping further on his nuts...fast forward a couple days later and I'm driving around town bumping this CD. "Still Ray" came on and stayed on and that's when I knew I had to re-do it (now I know how Dre must've felt).
I came home and listened to it, figured out the piano part and played everything else from there. Once I was finished I called my man Miles Bonny to lay down vocals and trumpet like only he can and here it is, free for you.

My family is from El Salvador. I grew up in the pre-gentrified Mission. Not hating, just saying. I loved living there but my family decided on making an exodus to the suburbs because of gang violence. Moving to Daly City was actually kinda ill though. Cue's Records and Doug's Hip Hop Shop had anything I'd want in life at the time. Daly City and it's huge Filipino (MP>FW) history is not want prompted me to want to DJ though. Watching Beat Street dubs on 19th and Folsom and seeing Double K are what had me hooked me son. Extra special shout out to Double K, Lee and Ramo.

Rudo Y Cursi is Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna's new joint. The trailer looks two ill. They play two brothers who play for the local futbol club and are constantly trying to one up each other. My girl and I go to Disneyland all the time. We about to get season passes and everything. (If you don't know me, I actually live in the Bay). Disneyland is one of the only places in the world where theres no point in going if you go thinking your too cool for school. Just get on some rides, eat some churros and nerd out with Mickey. Disneyland is so ILL. MJ in Captain EO, Space Mountain's lights and the Carnation Ice Cream Parlor on Main ST are memories of my childhood that I'll never forget. And the Nightmare before X-Mas Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, and Jasmin's fine ass backup dancers at the Aladdin show will keep me coming back. As a kid, my parents would get me different kiddy hats with my name on it. Now as an adult, I might be done with that part of it. Might. T-shirts on the other hand, I'm definitely not. Problem is that most of the shirts in the park is type lame. I'm not a streetwear dude but I figured they would have some. The problem came in finding just a couple of shirts in the oversaturated mirage of streetwear culture. I did find some that my girl and I will be definitely be rocking inside the parks for years to come....

Happy Friday irritates the hell out of me. It makes me realize that I go through my workweek just to get through to the weekend. I don't feel like I'm making a difference. I don't feel enriched. I don't feel proud. I don't feel all that fluffy stuff they tell me about thinking about 'the patients'. 'The patients' really? At my job, none of us ever have contact with actual patients. Maybe the Doctor's assistant who has talked to the patient but that's as close as I get. And using this 'think about how many patients we help' ploy is how they get us to keep churning out work. (Keep in mind I work for a medication that helps patients not sweat. Working a cancer drug would be another ordeal).

Time to make a change y'all. Because I definitely don't want to be in the same situation I am in now five years from now. Shouldn't the workweek be fun too? This is something that I've been working on from 230-930. To make my time off as enjoyable as the weekend. But getting through the 600-230 is what's been irking me lately. I need my workweek to be enjoyable. Maybe not to the same extent as the weekend, but it damn be close. And my 9-5 grind is getting the best of Young Benny.

Time to make change
Gotta actively look for openings
Volunteer to get more experience
Do whatever to get where we want to go

I think I'm gonna fall back now because I'm glad to have a job in these times.

Personally, with the exception of Rick Rock and Droop-E affiliated tracks I couldn't get down with most of the hyphy stuff that went down in the bay these last few years. But I'm all about everything proto-hyphy(TM). Don't let the fat gold chain and the fuzzy Kangol fool ya. This is Mob at it's finest. Frisco flamoboastin over a mean bassline. If you notice anything different, any inconsistencies with the taste, texture, anything- you let me know personally"- That's what Anthony said to me the day before the grand opening of Anthony's Cookies on Valencia in SF. I was like DAYAM!, what a dude. I've never seen anybody as dedicated and passionate about making cookies as Anthony is, while being super-friendly at the same time.

So I show up at the grand opening, and the place was all kinds of packed with all kinds of folks. So after getting their cookies and Odwallas or what not, some were just hangin around the store for a couple minutes then Anthony comes to the front counter and yells, "Hey ya'll I just wanted to say how nice it is to see everybody enjoyin themselves here at Anthony's Cookies." And I was thinkin "Damn! Anthony ain't bullshittin"- he is really a genuinely nice, decent human being, which is rare these days.

Since I just wasted about 2 minutes of your time explaining how nice Anthony is, imma tell you what I got from him: 3 Cookies n Cream 2 Wht Chocolate and 2 chocolate Chip cookies. Boy lemme tell you none of these survived the trip home- and I live in Pacifica, which is just about 10 minutes away. All of em are pretty official but the Cookies & Cream one stands out the most- If you blend an oreo milkshake from Jack in the box with a McFlurry on a good day and pop it in the oven, you get a cookies & cream cookie from Anthony's. Best $5.50 I've spent since $5 wednesdays at Roaring 20's.
