GIVEAWAY H-E-B FRUIT TWISTS - A COMPARISON WITH LEADING NATIONAL BRANDS {REVIEW}

We all want the best for our children. Especially when it comes to things they put in their bodies. My kids love fruit snacks. They're quick and easy, and great for when you are on the go. However, with many packaged foods you need to read the labels. You might find many of the ingredients difficult to pronounce. It's not always feasible to carry around a basket of fresh fruits and veggies just to have snacks available for the kids. Unless you have your own garden or farmer's market right outside your door it isn't always easy to keep fresh fruits and vegetables on hand either.

H-E-B has asked my family to do a comparison of H-E-B Fruit Twists and other leading National Brands. They kindly sent my family full size boxes of H-E-B Fruit Twists, Kellogg's Fruit Flavored Snacks, Welch's Fruit Snacks, and Gushers by Betty Crocker. I'll give you my opinions on ingredients, nutritional value, taste, texture, and overall preference. Then I will provide you with my kid's preferences and comments.

Remember those assignments in school where you had to find the item that doesn't belong? Well, once I began thinking about this as a comparison, the first thing I noticed was one of these snacks is not the same.... it says so right on the box "Fruit Flavored Snacks". Honestly, I had never noticed this before. I know product labels list ingredients by quantity from largest to smallest. You must go to the third ingredient to find a fruit related item in the Kellogg's snack. The other three have a base ingredient of fruit concentrate, fruit puree, and fruit juice. The calorie content is close on all four, between 70-90 calories per pouch. Pouch sizes range from 0.7 to 0.9 oz. The Gushers contain 1 gram of fat per serving. The other three are fat free.

Now let's talk about Gluten. It took me a little digging on this one. The H-E-B Fruit Twists, Gushers, and Welch's brand are Gluten free. The Kellogg's brand required a little searching. This was the information I found on the Kellogg's website:

Kellogg's™ Fruit Flavored Snacks are formulated gluten and wheat-free and may be acceptable for consumers on restricted diets. However, these products are produced in facilities that also manufacture other products that contain wheat. Consumers have varying sensitivities to gluten, and although we follow approved standardized manufacturing practices, some consumers are so sensitive that even wheat dust that may be in the product can result in a reaction. Therefore, we do not have any products that are gluten-free.

Now let's talk taste and texture, because that is what is most important to me. If a food doesn;t taste well or have a pleasing texture on my tongue, I won't eat it. The Gushers and H-E-B Fruit Twists are a bit sticky, but if you think about it... fruit and fruit juice can be a bit sticky due to the natural sugars. The Gushers actually came out of their pouch in one clump. All 10 snacks were stuck together. The Gushers and Kellogg's snacks have a very smooth texture. The H-E-B Fruit Twist have a more natural texture. The Welch's Fruit snacks were at the bottom of my list on texture. It was a bit dry and grainy. While the three leading national brands all had a nice fruity taste, they were a sugary. The Welch's and Gusher's have a little tartness to them too. The H-E-B Fruit Twist seem to have the most natural fruit taste.

My thoughts:
Overall, I prefer the H-E-B Fruit Twists. The ingredients and taste are closest to fresh fruit. I also kinda like the Gusher's. I would not buy the Kellogg's or Welch's snacks for my family.

The Kid's Thoughts:
Hanna quickly devoured the H-E-B Fruit Twists. The Strawberry flavor is her favorite and has been on my shopping list every week since. Both kids like the Gusher's too. (I think they really like the fruity syrup center.)

The H-E-B Fruit Twists are 100% real fruit. One pouch equals one serving of fruit. They contain no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. The H-E-B Fruit Twists are the only snack I reviewed that contained no corn syrup.

NOW I MUST BITE MY TONGUE

I have a knack for remembering where I put items. I have a knack for remembering lots of things really. Keith says I am like an elephant, I never forget.... even when he wishes I would. I rarely lose things. Glasses, keys, a cell phone.... Basically because everything has a place. Not that everyone in my home puts things in their designated place. This usually makes it easy for me to go right to an item. If the family misplaces something, it's usually easy for me to find.

Of course when someone else loses something I also tease them until it is found. It gets worse if they misplace an item over and over again. Keith misplaces his phone sometimes. Of course it is easily found with one call. He has a bad habit of misplacing his wallet though. Multiple times over many years. He leaves it in pockets, in the truck, in the bedroom, in the garage, poolside. I've even found it on the fence before. His wallet has gone through the laundry and even taken a dip in the pool. You name it, he has probably left his wallet there. Some wallets have never been found. We've replaced identification and bank cards multiple times. I once threatened to take away his ATM card because I was so scared he was going to lose it and our account would be drained of all funds one day.

All those comments and teasing might have got me into trouble though. The universe struck back with a vengeance over the weekend. Keith took Hanna and I do some retail therapy. I think we wore him out because his back was killing him by the time we were done. I still needed to go grocery shopping though. We decided to just get it done while we were out. Keith handed me his wallet so I could use his card to pay for everything. He then dropped Hanna and I off at the door and he waited in the truck while we shopped. I quickly made my way through the grocery store list in hand.

My cart was over flowing and so heavy I could hardly get it around the corners. I got everything on my list and then some. Time to check out. The items are being scanned and I'm pulling out the few usable coupons I have in my purse. I reach for his wallet and it is not there. I'm patting myself down like prison guard working intake. Nothing. I walk over and look through the child seat area of the grocery cart. Nothing. At this time the cashier has noticed and asked if I was looking for something. "Yes.. a wallet!" I go back to my purse and dig like there is gold in there. Nothing. Upon emptying the child seat area the cashier says he hasn't found anything and continues scanning. Panic is starting to set in at this time. Hanna takes a go at my purse and also comes up empty handed. I call Keith and have him take a look in the truck hoping I just left it in the seat. Nothing. He goes to the last shop we were in where it was used just to make sure we didn't leave it in there. Still nothing.

The grocery cart is almost empty and I've rung up a few hundred dollars worth of groceries. I am beyond panic. I call Keith back and he still hasn't located it. I tell him he needs to come in the store and check at the service desk. I can't ask for his wallet as it is not my property and he is the only one who can claim it. We stay on the phone though we are not actually talking. I'm looking through my purse again, as if his wallet is going to suddenly appear in there on the twelfth time I look. In my head I'm picturing some low life running all over town spending our money. All I can think about is needing to replace everything in his wallet. The cashier is clearly sensing my panic. He tells me he will go check at the service desk to see if a wallet has been turned in. He asks the last name. The girl in customer service looks under the counter. I describe the wallet and emphasize it is a men's wallet. Color? First name? The cashier says, "It's here.... but he does have to come in and claim it". At this time my whole body breathed a sigh of relief that was almost as good as an orgasm. I said ALMOST. Keith is walking in the door as I'm telling him over the phone that they have his wallet at customer service. He is annoyingly calm. I'm still practically hyperventilating. He collects his wallet and hands it to me. Nothing appears to be missing. I pay for everything and follow him out to the truck. I'm apologizing for the chaos I created. I still don't know how I lost his wallet. I don't know if it was in my pocket or purse. After we get into the truck to head home I look at him and say,"Well, I guess I can no longer give you hell about losing things anymore." He just laughs. Probably the best thing he's ever heard. Of course we both know that I can't keep my mouth shut. It's the thought that counts, right?

FINDING NEMO IN 3-D

Some movies are just made for 3-D. That up in your face action just helps give the story life. I was thrilled to hear that one of my favorites, Finding Nemo, is coming to 3-D this year.

SOUPER BOWL OF CARING 2012

HUNGER - A gnawing feeling in the stomach. Light-headedness. Dizziness. Headaches. Lethargy or weakness. Inability to concentrate. A craving for food. Pain. All of these are associated with hunger.

Of the 137,000 different people who receive food assistance each week in our area: Nearly half of households include at least one working adult, 94% are not homeless, and 47% are children.

HELP TACKLE HUNGER IN TEXAS

On any given day, more than 53,000 individuals in Southeast Texas go hungry – unfortunately, 3,600 of them are children. These are startling statistics. Hunger has no boundaries. The faces may change, but the numbers are similar in other areas as well.

The Souper Bowl of Caring is a nationwide, grassroots movement of caring utilizing Super Bowl weekend to mobilize youth to fight hunger and poverty in their local communities.

Souper Bowl of Caring Houston runs through Super Bowl Sunday, February 5, 2012. During this time, customers can purchase a pre-packed food bag to donate or make a cash donation at one of more than 200 participating H-E-B, Kroger and Randalls grocery stores. In addition, more than 240 local churches and schools will conduct food and donation drives. Scouts from the Sam Houston Area Council will come door-to-door to pick up food benefiting local food pantries served by the Houston Food Bank and other food banks in southeast Texas.

Locally, most of the proceeds will benefit the Houston Food Bank, which serves nearly 500 hunger relief agencies in 18 southeast Texas counties.

With a little help and kindness they can reach the goal of collecting 3 million meals for the Houston Food Bank to feed those in need.

Happy Hump Day everyone! It's time for my weekly post to make you smile, chuckle, giggle or laugh 'til you pee your pants.

Where's a baby shower invite when you need one?

CAR JACKED

An elderly Florida lady did her shopping and, upon returning to her car, found four males in the act of leaving with her vehicle. She dropped her shopping bags and drew her handgun, proceeding to scream at the top of her lungs, "I have a gun, and I know how to use it! Get out of the car!" The four men didn't wait for a second threat. They got out and ran like mad. The lady, somewhat shaken, then proceeded to load her shopping bags into the back of the car and got into the driver's seat. She was so shaken that she could not get her key into the ignition. She tried and tried, and then she realized why. It was for the same reason she had wondered why there was a football, a Frisbee, and two 12-packs of beer in the front seat. A few minutes later, she found her own car parked four or five spaces farther down. She loaded her bags into the car and drove to the police station to report her mistake. The sergeant to whom she told the story couldn't stop laughing. He pointed to the other end of the counter, where four pale men were reporting a car jacking by a mad, elderly woman described as white, less than five feet tall, glasses, curly white hair, and carrying a large handgun. No charges were filed.

IRISH VIAGRA

A woman of advanced age visited her physician to ask his advice in reviving her husband's libido. 'What about trying Viagra?' asked the doctor? 'Not a chance. He won't even take an aspirin.' she said. 'Not a problem. Give him an 'Irish Viagra', replied the doctor. 'It's when you drop the Viagra tablet into his coffee, he won't even taste it. Give it a try and call me in a week to let me know how things went.'

A week later when she called the doctor, he inquired as to her progress. The poor dear exclaimed, 'Oh, bejaysus! T'was horrid!... Just terrible, doctor!' 'Really? .......What happened?' asked the doctor. 'Well, I did as you advised and slipped it in his coffee and the effect was almost immediate. He jumped straight up, with a twinkle in his eye and with his pants a-bulging fiercely! With one swoop of his arm, he sent cups and tablecloth flying, ripped me clothes to tatters and took me then and there passionately on the tabletop! It was a nightmare, I tell you, an absolute nightmare!' This surprised the good doctor. 'Why so terrible?' asked the doctor, 'Do you mean the sex your husband provided wasn't good?'

'Lord, 'twas the best sex I've had in 25 years! But sure as I'm sittin here, I'll never be able to show my face in 'McDonalds' again!

Did you ever notice that when you blow in a dog's face, he gets mad at you but when you take him on a car ride, he sticks his head out of the window?

THE CRACK COOKIE DILEMMA

It's that time of year again. Many of you have probably already experienced those smiling little girls coming to your door selling their addictive crack cookies. Maybe they had a table set up in front of your local grocery stores to catch you in a spending mood. You might even see a crack cookie dealer on the corner pushing some product as you drive by. They all have the same goal. Move the product.

Some of the names have changed. It doesn't matter what you call the crack cookies as long as you are getting a quality product. Do you get the same feeling afterwards? Did it bring you a rush and put you in a state of euphoria? Has the crack cookie left you with a smile on your face? Do you feel the product was worth the cost? Of course you did, but now you are wanting more.

Those crack cookie dealers are happy to make a sale. Yet it leaves you wondering 'when is it enough?' Maybe it is paranoia. Maybe your crack cookie dealer is giving you a look when you order a lot of product. You keep coming back for more though. Maybe she is talking about you and your addiction behind your back. She knows you have a problem, but she doesn't care. She's happy to take your money and support your habit. Yet you can't help but feel like a glutton.

So what is a crack cookie addict to do? I tell you what you do.... get yourself multiple crack cookie dealers! Here's the plan. First, be sure to always use cash. Spread out your dealers. Buy a couple from the crack cookie dealer down the street. Now if you have multiple dealers in your neighborhood, you can always use an alias when you order. You can even use your kid's name. They'll never know. Of course, you can always find someone at school dealing so it's easy to get a couple more from the girl in your kid's class. Now you are off to a good start for a sizable stash of product.

But you can never have too much of a good thing. You've come close to exhausting all your local connections so now it's time to think outside the box. Branch out a bit. Those dealers always have some extra product that they want to unload. To keep your addiction under the radar you are going to have to do a little traveling. Go to areas you don't normally visit. The dealers are out there, you just have to know where to look. Hit the storefronts early. Those girls are out there dealing their crack cookies bright and early. If you want your choice of product hit them up before the good stuff is gone.

It takes a little effort to get what you crave, but with a little time and patience you can get a very sizable stash that will last you awhile. Even longer if you keep all those crack cookies for yourself. Oh, and I almost forgot.... don't forget the milk.

THINGS MEN NEVER SAY

No matter how much the men in our lives love us, there are still a few things you will never hear them say. I made a list of a few of my favorites just because they make me laugh:

Honey, I want you to have the TV remote.
Wow! That is one hell of a diaper blow out. I'll take care of the clean up.
Forget the Super Bowl. Let's watch Lifetime. I hear they are having a "True Love Marathon" this weekend.
Do these pants make my butt look big?
I don't need a Man Cave. Let's make this your craft room.
I think we should go shopping for a new duvet cover... and while we're out let's look for some new drapes.
I don't care if they are NFL Cheerleaders. Those uniforms are just too revealing.
I'm not in the mood for sex. How about we just talk while I massage your feet.
The flowers you sent to my office were lovely. My co-workers were so jealous. I felt so special!
I can hang out with the guys anytime. Let's go shoe shopping.

ALL NEW SUPER WHY EPISODES ON PBS KIDS

Super WHY is ringing in the New Year with four all-new literacy-powered episodes, premiering January 16-19, 2012 on PBS KIDS (check local listings)!

The new shows are sure to get preschool viewers playing and singing along to help Super Why, Princess Presto, Wonder Red, Alpha Pig and Woofster change the story and save the day. Here’s more info on each engaging episode:

Super WHY and Jasper's Cowboy Wish – January 16: Howdy Partner! Whyatt and his friends are playing cowboys, but Pig can't join in because he doesn't know what cowboys do. The super readers jump into the tale Jasper's Cowboy Wish and make the acquaintance of a cowpoke named Jasper who's desperate to become a rompin' stompin' cowboy if only he could get the hang of it! Will Jasper be a hero...or will this be his last roundup?

Super WHY and Baby Dino's Big Discovery – January 17: ROAR! Pig invited his friends over to play dinosaurs, but Whyatt can't figure out which toy dinosaur he has. So he super readers soar into Baby Dino's Big Discovery where they lend a hand to a baby dinosaur searching for his mommy. They'll need to look closely to figure out what kind of dinosaur Baby Dino is...and be careful to avoid being eaten while they do!

Super WHY and Princess Gwennie Saves the Day – January 18: Princess Pea is feeling dramatic (as usual) and she and Red are staging a play. Princess is pretending she's a queen but Red doesn't know what to be! The super readers fly into the story of a princess with a silly sense of humor and a big job to do. They help Gwennie use her talents to save the day, and Red discovers her own special gifts.

Super WHY and The Great Robot Race – January 19: Whyatt and Woofster want to win the porridge race, but the bowl of breakfast cereal keeps falling off the puppy's back. This is a super MESSY problem! The reading friends visit The Great Robot Race and encounter a boy named Bradbury who is determined to help his robo-doggie to win a race too! Both Bradbury and the super readers will have to use a little creative problem solving to help robo-doggie zoom to the head of the pack!

So hang on to your hat and hold on to your seat as Super Why and the Super Readers hop into their Why Flyers for exciting time travel adventures! The reading buddies travel to the Old West, visit the age of the dinosaurs, take a trip to medieval times and then jump forward to the future. Now doesn;t that sound like the perfect adventure for your little one?

WHAT DAY IS IT?

Some days you feel like you just can't get your head above water. Of course if you stop kicking you are sure to sink. Remember what Dory from Finding Nemo said, "Just keep swimming".

I've enjoyed my time off with my family. Most of it at least. I mean with a house full of teen/tween hormones there is only so much alcohol antidote available. Of course they were only back at school for a few days when one of them got sick... and apparently we are a family that likes to share because now the other kid is sick and home from school. Yay me!

I still have many things to do though. Blogger is just a pain. Not that that is breaking news. I've been in denial way too long. My fear of losing everything by switching platforms is not important anymore. I definitely have to switch to Wordpress ASAP. So now I just need to find someone to do my new design that I can trust and also afford. I just don't have the time to mess with a major design overhaul right now. I'm open to suggestions if you know anyone.

I've enjoyed my little break, but now its time to get back to work. I'll share more about our holidays, some pictures, and more about what I've been up to later. For now I will just plow through the hundreds of email messages I have waiting.

20 WAYS TO CONFUSE SANTA CLAUS

Instead of milk and cookies, leave him a salad, and a note explaining that you think he could stand to lose a few pounds.
While he's in the house, go find his sleigh and write him a speeding ticket.
Leave him a note, explaining that you've gone away for the holidays. Ask if he would mind watering your plants.
While he's in the house, replace all his reindeer with exact replicas. Then wait and see what happens when he tries to get them to fly.
Keep an angry bull in your living room. If you think a bull goes crazy when he sees a little red cape, wait until he sees that big, red Santa suit!
Build an army of mean-looking snowmen on the roof, holding signs that say "We hate Christmas," and "Go away Santa."
Leave a note by the telephone, telling Santa that Mrs. Claus called and wanted to remind him to pick up some milk and a loaf of bread on his way home.
Throw a surprise party for Santa when he comes down the chimney. Refuse to let him leave until the strippers arrive.
While he's in the house, find the sleigh and sit in it. As soon as he comes back and sees you, tell him that he shouldn't have missed that last payment, and take off.
Leave a plate filled with cookies and a glass of milk out, with a note that says, "For The Tooth Fairy. :)" Leave another plate out with half a stale cookie and a few drops of skim milk in a dirty glass with a note that says, "For Santa. :("
Take everything out of your house as if it's just been robbed. When Santa arrives, show up dressed like a policeman and say, "Well, well. They always return to the scene of the crime."
Leave out a copy of your Christmas list with last-minute changes and corrections.
While he's in the house, cover the top of the chimney with barbed wire.
Leave lots of hunting trophies and guns out where Santa's sure to see them. Go outside, yell, "Ooh! Look! A deer! And he's got a red nose!" and fire a gun.
Leave Santa a note, explaining that you've moved. Include a map with unclear and hard-to-read directions to your new house.
Set a bear trap at the bottom of the chimney. Wait for Santa to get caught in it, and then explain that you're sorry, but from a distance, he looked like a bear.

Paint "hoof-prints" all over your face and clothes. While he's in the house, go out on the roof. When he comes back up, act like you've been "trampled." Threaten to sue for personal injury.
Instead of ornaments, decorate your tree with Easter eggs.
Dress up like the Easter Bunny. Wait for Santa to come and then say, "This neighborhood ain't big enough for the both of us.

A LITTLE GIFT

After being away on business for a week before Christmas, Tom thought it would be nice to bring his wife a little gift.

"How about some perfume?" he asked the cosmetics clerk. She showed him a bottle costing $50. "That's a bit much," said Tom, so she returned with a smaller bottle for $30. "Thats still quite a bit," Tom groused. Growing disgusted, the clerk brought out a tiny $15 bottle. Tom grew agitated, "What I mean," he said, "is I'd like to see something real cheap."

So the clerk handed him a mirror.

RANDOM TUESDAY THOUGHTS - COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS

It's Tuesday again, and Tuesdays just aren't complete without a little randomness and support from Stacy. So let's rock the rebellion and get our random on!

I feel like I am slowly dragging myself out of a sickness cloud. Keith and I both had colds a week ago and I still haven't completely recovered. I have an annoying lingering cough. I wake up every morning with puffy eyes and every time I blink it feels like my eyelids are covered in sandpaper. Of course all of these symptoms make me think my problem is just allergies. Not a surprise really. I feel like everything is in slow motion and I know I have hundred of things I still need to do.

I have all of my gift wrapping done. There are still a couple of last minute deliveries I am expecting this week, but it sure is nice to know that I won't staying up into the wee hours of Christmas morning trying to wrap gifts like I have so many time in the past.

Friday (the Chihuahua Queen) drove me absolutely nuts last night. She would not sleep and kept scratching at the bed. On the bed, off the bed, outside.... nothing made her happy. I'm sure it had a lot to do with the bad storms that moved through last night, but either way I am sleep deprived and possibly a bit grouchy today. Consider this your warning.

I have some posts I need to catch up on this week. Being sick sucks and always puts me behind schedule. I also have a lot of holiday baking I need to get done.

I got all the Christmas decorations completed. All three yes three Christmas trees are up and decorated. I have our main tree in the living room. A fully decorated tree complete with fake presents on the front porch and a mini tree in the game room. What can say, I love the holidays.

I do have a little problem though I seem to be missing a stocking. The annoying part is, I had them all the other day. With the addition of Keith's Uncle who lives with us, we were short a matching stocking this year. And if you know me, then you understand having all the stockings match is a big deal. I tried looking for new stockings in blue, but was unable to find anything I like that was affordable. I just can't see paying $150-300 for five stockings. So I found one that was a close match to our current red stockings. However, when I went to hang them one had disappeared. If it doesn't show up soon I am going to go with all mismatched stockings this year. One red, one blue, one purple high heel shoe, one Harley Davidson, and one white with poinsettias. Instead of my OCD freaking about one mismatched stocking, I can purposely have them all mismatched which will somehow not be as traumatic mentally.

I'M STILL DECORATING DESPITE THIS COLD

I seem to have come down with a cold. I am blaming my husband since he was the first one to show symptoms. I didn't even feel like tuning on the computer the last few days. I rarely got on Facebook and my time on Twitter was minimal, and if you know me well then you know that is just not like me.

I finally started feeling a bit better yesterday. I gave myself a little pep talk to finish up some decorating. So last night I stayed up and made two new wreaths for the front doors.

I took two old wreaths and removed the beat up decorations. So then they looked like this.....

Then I added ornaments and ribbon to make them look like this.....

I am pleased. I think they turned out very nice.....

I re-purposed two wreaths by removing the old, beat-up decorations. I already had the blue ornaments. The only items I bought were the silver ornaments and ribbon. Total cost for two new door wreaths - $5.00!

Happy Hump Day everyone! It's time for my weekly post to make you smile, chuckle, giggle or laugh 'til you pee your pants.

REASON FOR THE DELAY

Two five year old boys are standing at the toilet to pee. One says, "Your thing doesn't have any skin on it!".

"I've been circumcised." the other replied.

"What's that mean?"

"It means they cut the skin off the end."

"How old were you when it was cut off?"

"My mom said I was two days old."

"Did it hurt?", the kid asked inquiringly.

"You bet it hurt, I didn't walk for a year!"

IT'S IN THE BAG

A little old lady was walking down the street dragging two large plastic garbage bags behind her. One of the bags was ripped, and every once in awhile, a $20 bill fell out onto the sidewalk.

Noticing this, a Policeman stopped her, and said, "Ma'am, there are $20 bills falling Out of that bag."

"Oh, really? Darn it!" said the little old lady. "I'd better go back and see if I can find them. Thanks for telling me officer.."

"Well, now, not so fast," said the cop. "Where did you get all that money? You didn't steal it, did you?"

"Oh, no, no", said the old lady. "You see, my back yard is right next to the football stadium parking lot. On game days, a lot of fans come and pee through a knot hole in the fence, right into my flower garden. It used to really tick me off. Kills the flowers, you know.

Then I thought, 'why not make the best of it?' So, now, on game days, I stand behind the fence by the knot hole, real quiet, with my hedge clippers. Every time some guy sticks his business through my fence, I surprise him, Grab hold of it and say, 'O.K., buddy! Give me $20, or off it comes.'

"Well, that seems only fair," said the cop, laughing. "OK. Good luck! Oh, by the way, what's in the other bag?"

"Well, you know", said the little old lady, "not everybody pays."

If you haven't seen The Muppets movie yet, you really should go. I though it was great and I loved sharing a favorite from my childhood with my kids. Here's a few fun Muppet facts from the film:

PRETTY PIG - A total of 12 different costumes were made for Miss Piggy—more costume changes than any other actor in the film.

TOP TEACHER - Amy Adam’s character Mary is a teacher with 16 students. Thus, no less than 16 perfect apples sit on the edge of the stellar teacher’s desk.

ALL IN THE FAMILY - Choreographer Michael Rooney is the son of Mickey Rooney, who appears in the film in a cameo role. This is the first time the two have ever worked together on a film.

MINI ME - Muppet versions of Gary/Jason Segel and director James Bobin were created.

HIGH FASHION - Miss Piggy had shoes made for her by Christian Louboutin and a dress by Zac Posen, which she wears in the finale scene.

SEEING GREEN - Disney’s “The Muppets” was a green set (in more ways than one) with an environmental steward who made sure the proper recycling receptacles were utilized on set. All of paper products were made from recycled materials and were compostable. The production also provided each crew member with aluminum refillable water bottles to cut down on the use of plastic bottles and paper cups. Water was readily available on set for cast and crew to fill their personal water bottles.

MUSIC MAKES MY HOLIDAYS SPECIAL #ChristmasFantasyCD

I love music. My entire family loves music. Our taste in music may differ some, but music is a personal expression of who we are and our personalities. I know my taste in music often changes with my mood.

I listen to a lot of music during the holidays. I have ever since I was a child, of course my favorite songs are no longer performed by a group of singing chipmunks these days. There is just something about holiday music that brings a smile to my face and warms the heart.

Now I must admit I start listening to Christmas music as soon as the local stations start playing it, which around here is Thanksgiving Day. When the family is together decorating our tree and baking Christmas cookies we always have Christmas music playing. The first thing I do Christmas morning before we start opening gifts is turn on the music and grab a cup of coffee. I prefer more upbeat tempo to those that are a bit slow. I like a little rhythm, something that is going to make me bob my head or tap my feet to the music.

I added a new CD to my music collection this year, A Christmas Fantasy by Raul Rendon. It is a great collection of Christmas music. A man boarded a plane with six kids. After they got settled in their seats a woman sitting across the aisle from him leaned over to him to ask, "Are all of these kids yours?"

Concerned about her relationship, a woman approaches her doctor and says, "Doc, I'm getting married this weekend and my fiance thinks I'm a virgin. Is there anything you can do to help me?"

It's Tuesday and Stacy is supporting our habit. So let's rock the rebellion and get our random on!

I've been super busy making holiday crafts, decorations, wreaths and just about anything else you can think of this past week. I have paper, ribbon, glue, and glitter everywhere. I use the super fine "fairy dust" glitter for some things so when I say it is everywhere... I mean everywhere. It looks like one of us has been spending a lot of time at the nudie bar or is moonlighting on a pole.

My decorating is at a stand still as far as our tree is concerned. We picked out a fabulous Nobel Fir last week. However, we seem to be missing a bin of Christmas decorations. Specifically, the tree lights and most of my snowman collection. I refuse to buy new lights as we already have three bins of lights. Icicles lights, snowflake lights, multi-colored lights, white lights, blue lights, and LED only lights. Looks like it back to the garage to look around. In the meantime, cover your eyes.... it's a naked tree!

My daughter is reading too fast. I never thought I would ever say those words. She was never a reader. She got hooked on Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment by James Patterson. She flee through book one and two. I ordered book three and four online. She read them both, plus book five last week. Now I need to order six and seven, which is the final book in the series. Now I just need suggestions on what to give her next. She is a bit of a picky reader.

I went to the grocery store solo over the weekend. Always a lot quicker and cheaper when I go alone. On the way home I passed a office park. Mostly doctor's offices so the parking lot was empty. Except for the huge flock of birds that was covering the parking lot and all the grassy areas surround the complex.

So I did what anyone would do, I honked at them

We went to Hobby Lobby over the weekend to pick up some stripper glitter and glue sticks for my hot glue gun. We were also looking for an affordable small tree for the front porch. We browsed around for a bit. We never found a tree. Instead Keith bought me a 101 piece Wilton Decorating Kit. Let's just call it an early Christmas gift. I'm in decorating heaven. No more store bought cakes and cupcakes for us.

#DIY HOLIDAY CRAFT - HOW TO MAKE AN ICE ORNAMENT

I love the holidays. I think decorating for the holidays is my favorite part of the entire season. I'm always adding and changing my holiday decor. My goal when decorating is to spend as little as possible and reuse, recycle, or re-purpose whenever I can. My latest project is an Ice Ornament. Wouldn't you love to have this beauty hanging from your tree?

These ornaments are super simple to make. I used a set of old plastic ornaments that I had on hand, but you can pick up a box of clear plastic or glass ornaments for a couple of dollars. I had plenty of glue and I picked up the Epsom Salt for less than a dollar a pound.

Here is a list of materials you will need to make your own ice ornaments:

Clear glass or plastic ornaments
Glue (one that dries clear)
Epsom Salt

Pour about a cup of salt into a medium sized bowl. Remove the cap and hanger from the ornaments. Make sure your ornaments are clean and dry. Have a spoon on hand for pouring the salt over the ornaments. I used corn on the cob holders for my ornaments, but a pencil, skewer, or even a popsicle stick would work too. Start by swirling glue around the ornament.

Make sure you get glue up to the neck of the ornament. Now you are going to get a little messy. Use your finger to spread out the glue in a thin layer. Make sure the ornament is completely covered with glue.

Now it is time to apply the salt. Hold your ornament over the bowl and slowly pour the salt over the ornament. I let mine dry overnight.

Keep turning the ornament and pouring the salt until the ornament is completely covered. Pour additional salt on any areas where the salt looks thin.

Once your ornament is finished, stand it upright and let it dry. It takes a couple hours to dry completely.

Once your ornaments are dry replace the cap and hanger. Now you are ready to display your Iced Ornaments on your tree, a wreath, or anywhere else these iced beauties would look great!

IT'S TIME TO GET CREATIVE

It's December. One of my favorite months. I absolutely love the holidays. I love to decorate. I love to bake. I love to make my friends and family smile.

Starting Monday I will be sharing a few post every week featuring terrific projects that you can make at home. I like to recycle, reuse, and re-purpose when I get crafty. The less I need to purchase, the more lattes I can buy.

Besides all the cool DIY projects and craft ides, I'll be sharing some great recipes for holiday treats and cookies as well as some delicious cocktails and drinks.... and really, who couldn't use a drink this time of year?

I hope everyone had a terrific turkey day. We had a lovely turkey day. I have to admit though, I was glad to see everyone go back to school/work on Monday.

I know it's not even December yet, but I am already in the holiday spirit. Christmas is my favorite holiday. The decorating, The baking. The gift giving and receiving. The wrapping. Yes, I am one of those weird people who loves to wrap presents. Oh... and the family.... they're great too!

Keith was pulling out our holiday bins over the weekend. He called me out to the garage. He wanted to see which wreaths and decorations I wanted to throw away. Umm.... NONE. I know we already have 4 sets of wreaths and that I'm making a new set this year, but I need them all. Plus I like to reuse and recycle old decorations. Apparently he forgot Christmas is my favorite holiday and I LOVE to decorate!

I survived another Black Friday. Do you want to know my secret.... I stay at home! I would not make it through the chaos and rudeness. The money I saved shopping would be spent on bailing me out of jail for sure. I hate crowds and pushy people. I promise you the first person to steal something from my cart would be going down. And so would begin the story, "You remember that Black Friday that I ended up going to jail..." The violence is unreal; pepper spray, hitting children, and fighting in the aisles.

I'm developing a slight obsession with Pinterest. I was reluctant to start using it at first, but I finally gave in to the temptation. I haven't even pinned any of my great finds yet. I spend so much time browsing and re-pinning everyone else's pins.

It seems no matter how many tools we have in this house I can never find a tool when I need it. At one time we had a drawer in the kitchen with a few tools available. I got rid of the tool drawer because it quickly turned into a junk drawer and catch all. I had a small tool box at one time too. Tools slowly disappeared and it seemed pointless to keep a whole tool box for an Allen Wrench and a selection of interchangeable screwdriver bits.... especially since you no longer have the screwdriver the bits fit into. After looking all over for a tape measure yesterday I am seriously considering using a fire safe for my tools. It's pink. I doubt anyone would take off with my toolbox.

I've been asking the kids for their Christmas list for over two weeks. I had a meltdown Sunday when I still hadn't received anything. I told them they were getting coal if they didn't give me a list. The kids are 11 and 13 now, so the gift are getting smaller and the prices are getting larger. Dakota ran upstairs and brought me a list with four items on it. The cost of those four items is over $500. Hanna brought me the list she had been working on, it consisted of a sheet of notebook paper (front AND back) with specific items (mostly clothes, shoes, and accessories) and the website address where you can find the item. She also stapled and index card to the list that named songs and music artists that she wants for her ipod. Funny thing is, her list cost about as much as the four items on Dakota's.
