It seems actress Rani Mukherjee, who was once the undisputed queen of Bollywood, is desperately trying to belt out a hit film. Her last film Dil Bole Hadippa failed in spite of all the hype and hoopla created by her bikini act and weight loss. Now, she seems to be interested in working
with Junaid Khan.

But who is Junaid Khan anyway? He is Aamir Khan's son. It is said that Rani Mukherjee is looking forward to work with this tall and handsome young lad. It maybe recalled that she worked with Aamir in her second film Ghulam, which was released in 1997.

After giving loads of films under his production banner, now Aditya Chopra has reportedly helped Rani Mukherji grab a small screen show.

It has been observed that none other than Aditya Chopra has the credit of Rani working with the reality show Dance Premiere League. It is being suggested that Aditya has good relations with channel owners and hence suggested Rani’s name for the show.

You all will also be surprised to know that the channel had signed an agreement for producing a fiction and non-fiction content just two days before Rani was announced as a part of the show.
This has resulting in rising of many questions about Rani being a part of the show and a simultaneous deal of the channel with Aditya Chopra.
However, Aishwarya Rai and Madhuri Dixit were the actresses being considered earlier for the show.

Shahid Kapoor seems to be all the rage in B-town these days, but that didn’t stop co-star Rani Mukherji from outshining him at the press conference for their upcoming movie "Dil Bole Hadippa."

Rejecting claims of insecurity about Shahid Kapoor’s rising popularity, Rani Mukherji, who was also asked questions about marriage, still said that her favorite scene was the dance with item girl Rakhi Sawant!

The promos of ‘Dil Bole Hadippa’ (DBH) would have really made audience to wonder at the crux of the movie. But looks like they to wait for sometime for its release. It is said that the movie will be released after the bad phase in Rani’s life passes away.

According to sources, the movie’s leading lady, Rani Mukherji, is experiencing an unfortunate period in her rashi for two years and it would end on September 9th. Initially the producer Aditya Chopra wanted to release the film by the end of August or the first week of September. Now, the film has been postponed to the second week of September, sources said.

Now one can understand since the charming actress has given out series of failures last few years. And the actress doesn’t want to take further chance with this one.

The trailers do look inviting, so don’t you think Rani should throw her concerns in the air? Anyway, can’t predict the ways of these astronomical stars, right?

MUMBAI: While most actors prefer to take a break after hectic activity, Rani Mukherji likes to be different. The Bengali actress who has Yashraj's Dil Bole Hadippa releasing on the 18 September is taking a vacation to prepare herself for the onslaught of media interviews to promote her film.

A close friend said, "Rani is off to Paris to shoot for a magazine cover. She is accompanied by designer Sabyasachi who has designed her costumes for the photo shoot. But after that, Rani will head for London for a holiday. Once she is back she will be ready to face the cameras and journalists."

Rani's shooting schedule has not been at all hectic. Apart from the one film that she has in hand, Dil Bole Hadippa, the actress has a few advertisement endorsement shootings to do. A source said, "It is not her shooting schedule that is hectic. Rani attends to a lot of private gatherings. She danced with Shah Rukh Khan at the King Khan Nite for a wedding in Mumbai, thereafter she accompanied him to Malaysia for another social get together. These private parties are keeping her busy."

Once Rani returns, she will be caught in the whirlpool of activity of promoting her film. So it is vacation time in London and we are told by her source, "It will be a time for Rani to pamper her body and soul. So there will be lots of spas for relaxation and shopping to rejuvenate."

Kunal Kohli, the director of hit movies like 'Fanaa', 'Hum Tum', is coming up with a magical flick titled 'Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic', starring Saif and Rani. Movie's title was kept after completing its shooting and will be released in June 27, 2008..

KUNAL KOHLI is coming up with a magical flick titled ’Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic’, featuring one of the bollywood’s favourite jodi. For a change, it’s Rani Mukharjee with Saif Ali Khan and not Kareena Kapoor, who has been making the news quite recently. Pundits have predicted that the couple’s magic would yet again work on the people.

The movie is scheduled to be released in June 27, 2008. Numerous rumours had surrounded the movie but ultimately, the movie was named after completing its shooting. The title of the movie is really a catchy one.

In recent times, it has been a trend to target younger audience with the release of movies like Bal Ganesha, Koi Mil Gaya, Krissh and the last one to add to the list was Tare Zameen Par. Mukherjee would be playing the role of a fairy. Four kids would be acting, along with her in the lead roles.

Kohli said that he had to do a lot of brainstorming to think of a title for the movie

Rani Mukerji has developed the reputation of avoiding the media. But in case of Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic she is different. She is very ecstatic about her role in the movie. Being a movie from the Yash Raj stable, it is expected to be a big hit.

Here's something you don't see everyday -- Rani Mukherji and Karan Johar being punished!

And meting out justice is the king of entertainment himself, Shah Rukh Khan . And no, this is not a scene from a Bollywood comedy.

Rather the setting was a classroom, SRK's in fact, where the actress and the filmmaker had a lot of fun. The duo was up to no good as they cheated on the questions during a special shooting of Star Plus' Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain.

A peeved host, then decided to punish his errant students by making them stand up on the chairs. But like all of Karan's stories, all's well that ends well, and the three made up towards the end.

That's not all, Rani and Karan even made a killing on the show! While Karan pledged his share towards charity, Rani is still mulling on what to do with her's.

Rani Mukherji, after playing an angel in Kunal Kohli’s Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, is all set to play a cricketer in Yash Chopra’s next film.

She’s paired for the first time opposite Shahid Kapoor and said with her throaty laugh, “I don’t know if any actress has played a cricketer before, but I’ve been learning cricket on the field for the past two months. I can play the game convincingly now, though not as good as the professionals yet, but I’m glad to be doing work which challenges.” So is she equipped to join the IPL next season? “I don’t know about that! But I’m definitely enjoying cricket. My practical sessions are on full swing.”

Rani is hungry for new roles. “At this stage of my career I feel I need new challenges. When Kunal offered me an angel’s role, I was kicked. For the first time I was playing a character who couldn’t cry. Now critics can stop saying Rani cries so much in all her films.” After an angel and a cricketer, what would Rani like to play? “Maybe an astronaut like Kalpana Chawla. And I’d also love to play a doctor. I’ve never done that before. Come to think of it, I’ve never worked with Shahid Kapoor before either. I’m doing so now.”

It seems that the Aditya Chopra-Rani Mukherji romance is in full bloom. If sources are to be believed, the reticent Adi is all out to woo his ladylove. Apparently, he has just bought a 10 carat diamond ring for Rani. And there are multiple reasons behind this gesture.

A well-placed source says, “Rani has always been loyal to Yash Raj Films. She agrees to star in most of their projects without any starry airs. Moreover, despite her reigning status, she chose to limit herself mostly to the Yash Raj banner. Also, despite her recent films with the banner (Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, Ta Ra Rum Pum) not doing too well, Rani trusts Aditya’s instincts completely.”

Incidentally, Aditya’s directorial venture Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi does not feature Rani as the storyline does not have a role for her.

“Aditya is planning another sports-based movie on cricket where she might play the role of a captain. Aditya who is very media shy prefers his work to do the talking. Rani has opted to do the same,” says the source. He adds, “Of late, she has become a recluse. She chose not to talk to the media even when her brother’s show was being launched.”

The source reveals further, “Aditya is happy that Rani agreed to be a part of Yash Raj’s Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, despite having differences with Saif Ali Khan. Director Kunal Kohli wanted to repeat the Hum Tum jodi, which had crackling chemistry. It was only Aditya who could convince Rani to agree to co-star opposite the Khan. Aditya being overwhelmed by her support bought this expensive ring as a token of affection and gratitude,” the source ends.

Shah Rukh Khan tops her list of favourites. After a career spanning 12 years and 40 films, Shah Rukh is still the man who holds "a special place" in Rani Mukerji's professional life.

"I was considered a newcomer in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, but Shah Rukh never let me feel like one. The treatment he gave in spite of his superstar status then overwhelmed me," Rani, who made her debut with Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1996, said.

She said Shah Rukh had always guided her in the right direction and she had gained a lot from him.

"I respect his dedication and the extra effort he puts towards his work. I still learn a lot from him," said Rani Mukerji.

The two have acted together in several films, including hits like Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Chalte Chalte and Veer-Zaara.

They were also seen together in the critically acclaimed offbeat film Paheli, which was based on a short story written by Vijayadan Detha.

Queried about her rapport with Saif Ali Khan, with whom she was seen in Hum Tum and Ta Ra Rum Pum, Rani said: "In my recent film Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic it was a good experience working with him. But while doing Hum Tum we had some reservations. With time, we get along well and have mutual respect for each other."

In Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic, which is releasing June 27, Rani says she essays the role of an angel who has been sent by god to bring happiness in the life of a business tycoon and four orphan children.

She had to do a lot of practice with action director Shyam Kaushal, especially for the flying scenes.

"The speciality of the role is that I have to smile throughout the film unlike my other films where I had to cry as well. Even my fans told me that they have had enough of my crying. So this film is special for me and my fans; besides, Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic is my only release this year."

In real life, her angel is her two-year-old niece Myiesha. "She keeps me smiling. Whenever I am free and have some time, I play with her. She keeps me going."

Famously reclusive when it comes to parties and social appearances, Rani said emphatically: "I don't like parties. I am more of a family person. I prefer spending time with my family."

Rani has been paired with almost all superstars except perhaps Akshay Kumar.

"Many projects came to me where Akshay and I were paired together but somehow the roles didn't excite me." Refusing to name the films, Rani said many of those did well. "But, we hope to do a film together."

The talented actress has cut short her assignments because roles don't excite her any more.

"The roles or the stories that came my way did not excite me. I don't want to do a film just for doing it or to please the journalists. There was a time when I did even three or more films at a time. I did Veer-Zaara, Mangal Pandey and Black together because the roles excited me."

Her much talked about marriage plans are dismissed.

"You people are too much interested in my marriage. But let me tell you that I don't have a marriage plan for a long, long time. I want to do a lot of films now and don't see marriage in the near future."

Rani's next project is a Yash Raj Film production with Shahid Kapur to be directed by debutant Anurag Singh. The yet to be titled film will go on the floors in June.

Bollywood star Rani Mukherji, who has not had a good run at the box office since the critically acclaimed `Black' two years ago, says she is not a recluse.

"I am perceived to be as a recluse which I am not. I am a family oriented person and I like to spent time with my family when I am not working," she told reporters here last evening.

"Just because I keep to myself after shooting and not seen at places where the media normally goes, one can't have such preconceived notions. I like playing with my two-year-old neice Myesha when I am free."

Earlier, the actor interacted with children from eight city-based orphanages and shared with them her upcoming film `Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic'. Rani appeared relaxed and happy as she sang and danced with the children.

She admitted that she has become selective about her roles. "I want to essay characters which I have not done before. My fans have given me so much love and respect that I want to make them happy about my performances."

Rani said recently she had been offered several roles opposite Akshay Kumar, who had four hits to his credit last year, but had to reject them because she did not like them.

"The films, however, went on to become huge hits. I am still waiting for a good offer opposite Akshay."

In `Thoda Pyar...', Rani said she plays an angel. "It is also perhaps for the first time that I have not used glycerine as I don't have to cry in any frame of the film."

"Similarly, I wear only one outfit throughout the film. Manish Malhotra made 50 costumes to design my look in the film out of which only one was chosen."

The Bhaidas Hall in Vile Parle is an unlikely place for Rani Mukherji to announce her comeback to Bollywood.

But that is where the gorgeous actress is, surrounded by kids who clutch her long flowing skirt while she sings and dances with them on the songs of Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic , in which she is playing an angel. The kids are excited and keep screaming, "Rani didi, Rani didi." Didi is fun and games, and one hour later, she turns apologetically and says, "Now I'm all yours, ask me whatever you want."

Exhausted, nursing a torn ligament ("it's no big deal, injury is part of my profession"), she manages a 1,000-watt smile nevertheless. One of those Rani specials that light up the screen. "Kunal Kohli's Thoda Pyar Thoda Magic with Saif Ali Khan will be my first release of the year. I play a character straight out of fantasy. It's tough playing an angel as I have to keep flying. I'm always in mid-air, pulled up by a harness, I feel like Hrithik in Krrish," she laughs.

Rani has been selective, of late. "I would love to do four-five films a year, but I'm not happy with the scripts offered to me," admits the actress who is also working on Yashraj's next film with Shahid Kapoor. But, whether she does films or not, Rani says that her fans continue to love her. "They loved me then, when I did films like Ghulam and Bichoo, and they love me now when I'm playing an angel." Is she deliberately being reclusive? "No, I'm not," she protests. "It's just that the dos that I attend are not attended by the media. I'm more of a family person. After a day's work, I prefer to go back to home to my niece Myeisha."

What's her equation with Saif in this film? Rumours are that the two don't get along well. "Earlier we didn't get along that famously. We are not the best of friends. But, yes, after we did Hum Tum, we got to know each other and now when this film was offered to us, we were more than happy to act opposite each other. We have grown together as actors. We inspire each other," she reveals. Rani's done films with most of the big actors from the Big B to Kamal Hassan and all the reigning Khans of Bollywood. But she's not worked Akshay Kumar. "Akshay and I want to do a film together but it's strange that we don't like the ones offered to us. Akshay keeps telling me, 'Arrey yaar, yeh bhi script achcha nahin hai,'" she laughs.

Early work and breakthrough, 1996-2002

After doing a short cameo appearance for the first time in her father's Bengali film Biyar Phool (1992), Mukerji made her acting debut four years later, as the protagonist of Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat (1996). Her performance as a rape victim in the film was well received, but when the film failed at the box office, she returned to college to complete her education.

Mukerji returned to films in 1998. Her first release that year was Ghulam, opposite Aamir Khan; the film did well at the box office. Karan Johar's directorial debut, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, co-starring Shahrukh Khan and Kajol, followed for her that year. The movie was a blockbuster, and she received her first Filmfare Award in the Best Supporting Actress category.

She followed her career by signing on several projects. Unfortunately, most of them did not do well at the box office. Although Badal was one of the highest grossing films of 2000, she still didn't succeed to establish her status in the industry at that point of time.

In 2001, Mukerji starred in Abbas Mustan's romantic drama Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, co-starring Salman Khan and Preity Zinta. The film was released after a one-year delay, and was one of the first Bollywood movies to handle the issue of surrogate childbirth. Mukerji's role was that of Priya Malhotra, a woman who is unable to conceive after a miscarriage, thus hires a surrogate mother. In 2002, Mukerji played the lead role in Kunal Kohli's romance Mujhse Dosti Karoge!, co-starring alongside Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor. Although the movie did not do well in India, it generated great business overseas, and marked her entry into India's biggest production house: Yash Raj Films. Later that year, Mukerji starred in Shaad Ali's critically acclaimed Saathiya opposite Vivek Oberoi. The film was a moderate success and became one of the highest grossing movies of the year. Essaying the role of Suhani Sharma, a medical student who deals with the tensions and discontent of married life, she won a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance, and among several other nominations, received her first Best Actress nomination at the Filmfare. Mukerji's first 2003 release was Aziz Mirza's drama Chalte Chalte opposite Shahrukh Khan. The film saw her play a similar role to that of Saathiya, and she received her second nomination for Filmfare Best Actress Award. Among another three releases that year, Mukerji starred in Chori Chori. She portrayed her first comic role in the film, and although it did not do well, Mukerji's comic timing was praised.

In 2004, her performance as a Bengali housewife in Mani Ratnam's Yuva won Mukerji her second Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award. Though the film failed to do well, her performance was critically acclaimed with one critic writing, "the role demanded an actress of substance and Rani more than lives up to the expectations". She followed through by playing the leading role in the romantic comedy Hum Tum, which became one of the biggest hits of the year. The film, based on the 1989 film When Harry Met Sally..., was directed by Kunal Kohli. Mukerji's portrayal of Rhea Sharma, a woman of today's generation, won her several awards, including her first Filmfare Best Actress Award. BBC wrote about her performance:

Her last release of the year was Yash Chopra's love saga Veer-Zaara, co-starring alongside Shahrukh Khan and Preity Zinta. The film, which emerged as the top grossing movie of the year in India and abroad, tells the love story of an Indian officer, Veer Pratap Singh, played by Khan, and a Pakistani woman, Zaara, played by Zinta. Mukerji played the supporting role of Saamiya Siddiqui, a Pakistani lawyer who takes it upon herself to find the truth about Veer Pratap Singh.

Mukerji in her critically acclaimed performance as the blind, deaf and mute Michelle McNally in Black (2005), which earned her the Filmfare Best Actress Award for the second consecutive year.

In 2005, Mukerji starred in four high-profile films: Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Black, Shaad Ali's Bunty Aur Babli, Amol Palekar's Paheli and Ketan Mehta's The Rising. She was primarily noted for her performance in Black. When Bhansali first came to Mukerji with the offer, she turned it down and stated that she was not confident enough to play a deaf-blind girl. Once the director put faith in her, she agreed to do it and intensely studied sign language with professionals at the Helen Keller Institute in Mumbai. Mukerji received much critical acclaim for her performance and collected numerous trophies in the category of Best Actress at various award ceremonies. IndiaFM noted, "There's no denying that Rani delivers her best performance to date. With no dialogues in her lap, the actress conveys through expressions solely and what a terrific impact she makes. Here's a performance that should act as a reference guide for all aspiring actors". Her next release, Bunty Aur Babli, surfaced as one of the biggest hits of the year. The film, though successful at the box office, opened to mixed reviews, and so did Mukerji's performence, with one critic writing, "Rani has done a great job most of the time, though she does tend to go a little over the top in the crying scenes. Nevertheless, Mukerji received Best Actress nominations from the IIFA Awards and Filmfare Awards.

Mukerji was offered the lead role in Mira Nair's Hollywood film, The Namesake (2007) but owing to clashing dates with Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, she could not commit to the project. Her first release in 2006 was Karan Johar's drama Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, which consisted of a multi-starrer that included Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Preity Zinta and Kirron Kher. The film opened to mixed reviews but emerged as the most successful movie ever overseas. She received several nominations for Best Actress, and won her third IIFA Best Actress Award for the third consecutive year. Mukerji's next release was B.R. Chopra's Baabul. The movie did not do well at the box office in India, though proved to be a hit overseas.

Mukerji's first 2007 release, Ta Ra Rum Pum, where she played a pianist turned housewife and a mother for the first time on celluloid, was a semi-hit. Her last two releases of the year, Pradeep Sarkar's drama Laaga Chunari Mein Daag and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Saawariya, were critical and commercial failures in India.
