The night before, or actually the morning before we were to set off for Segiriya. We arrived in Kandy at around 2A.M and checked into the hotel. After getting settled in, we decided that it was pointless going to sleep because we were to leave in a couple of hours anyway. So to kill time the four of us started playing monopoly. A decision we kind of regretted, because we wouldn’t get much sleep the following night as well. Thanks to some friends in Kandy who wanted to treat us to some Kandyan hospitality, which ended up turning into quite a wild night. Sorry, no pictures from that. Guess it’s one of those decisions we’ll all end up thinking back on once we’re much wiser (hopefully) and say to ourselves “Man we were retarded”. But for now, we’re simply young and stupid.

This passage way was constructed so that only one person could pass though it at a time, so that in case of an enemy attack, it would be easier for the defenders to pick them off one at a time.

I’m still not done editing all the pics of Segiriya from my “Radical Road Trip” (ya! that’s what my friends call it). I’ve uploaded some to flickr but there’s more. So until I’m done with them, this one’s from another trip to Siripada during the off season.

Was quite a treacherous trip for both my equipment and myself. I never would have made it to the top without my friends helping me out. When I got to the top my point and shoot simply refused to start and the lens on my DSLR had fogged up. Hence the blurry picture of everyone huddled up inside the caretakers’ cabin.

Oh, you might notice I’ve uploaded a bigger picture than usual. I’m not sure if this is entirely a wise decision given that people with slow connections might have to wait a while for the picture to download. If there’s anyone who actually visits this blog and thinks that the old size was good enough please let me know.

I took a trip down to Aluthgama for a photo assignment last year. It was quite a windy afternoon and I was having lunch at this nice restaurant near the river when the windsurfers came out to do their thing.

Oh, the yellowish tint is from me playing around with Photoshop. The light wasn’t all that great that day.

A restaurant in Colombo. A meal at this place would set you back quite a bit. Well at least by my meager earnings it would. So I really have no idea as to how good, or bad the food is.

Raja is now sixty plus years old and is said to have the longest tusks for a Sri Lankan elephant. He’s now enjoying his retirement at an elephant orphanage just outside Kegalle.

Rajas Mahout Martin washes him at the nearby stream.

Raja is currently in must until April. During this time only Martin is allowed near him.

This photograph was taken at saloon La Passion for the Leisure Times Magazine. The saloon chain had opened a new one in Dematagoda and the Leisure Times wanted some pics. So I was sent to Dematagoda. I had to go with a different three wheel driver cause my usual guy, had disappeared for a couple of weeks. He eventually returned but there were some rumours circulating round LT that he had found a nice girl and had decided to give up the three wheel life. I guess it didn’t work out. Which is kind of a good thing, cause the other dude I had to go with kind of overcharged a bit and ended up getting both of us lost on the way to the saloon. We ended up driving round the wrong end of Dematagoda looking for the saloon. Eventually sense prevailed and we asked for directions and found the place.
