Netflix has had some struggles lately, but not many other folks are doing it right. If you’re interested in the future of entertainment, it’s worth taking a look at this investor presentation from Reed Hastings on the Netflix business opportunity.

Foreshadowing

Pepsi Trims 100 Agency Partners... Foreshadowing:
First of all, wow… 100 agencies partners is only 65% of their relationships? That’s not global, that’s North America. There are a couple things I find interesting in the announcement:

1 - Agency partners “ballooned” over the last several years. Pepsi CMO Simon Lowden said this was because “sthe agenda has gotten more complex and busier.” Yet he also says “when we look back on things, the vast majority of the work is still done by our core agencies.”

2 - This is a correction. I imagine we’ll see more of this happening across the industry, which means less revenue for agencies, and more kept within the brand. Social media jobs going in-house, money invested in agency fees going back to the spend.

Remembering why I wanted to be a fighter pilot as a kid…...

Remembering why I wanted to be a fighter pilot as a kid… If you haven’t read it yet, there’s a great article in the February issue of Inc Magazine on the story of GoPro. The fact that they understand and invest in content, not just hardware, is a sign to me that they’ll continue to be successful and branch into new businesses.

A New Beginning

I’m starting this new blog after eight years blogging at RandomCulture.com. The most significant change will be that I’m finally blogging under my own name. Truthfully, if I had to do it all over again I would have started that way, but after a few years I had so much vested that it was difficult to do. In the last year or so, it’s been much more difficult to keep up with posting on a regular basis. Some of that has to do just with the pace of life, but much of it also has to do with spending more time on Twitter and other platforms. This new start is an opportunity to bring those things together… what’s more, it’s also a coming together of my personal and professional interests. I’ve kept them separate, but they’re not far away from one another.

Thanks for starting this new chapter with me!
