Hello, everyone! I know I haven't been posting here and I did a little note a few months ago promising that I would... then never did. I feel guilty but I've been going through a hard time for the last few years and it's hard to get back into the swing of things. So, to make a fresh start I'm moving this blog to WordPress. I've been using WordPress for my gaming blog and prefer it way more than Blogger. I've been using it for my other blog since June of last year and find it so much more user-friendly. I'm just exporting all of my posts and stuff from here to there. So please, follow me there if you want and I promise I'll be posting much more often! Thanks!

I wanted to love this book. I really did. It was third on the list of humorous romance books on Goodreads. At first, I found it pretty funny. But after a while it seemed like the author was forcing the funny. Near the end I was getting fairly annoyed with it. Especially the "O". Dear God, if I see that again I'll lose my freaking mind! Suffice it to say I had to force myself to finish the book and ended up skimming over the last few chapters just to see what happened.

In the beginning I really liked Caroline. About halfway through she really started to get on my nerves. Maybe it's because I've been reading so many m/m books but I felt like she was such a girl. I wanted to tell her to man up and get over it already! Stop being such a woosie. Simon, on the other hand I really liked through the whole book. Although I found the whole "harem" thing a bit extreme and unrealistic.

My favorite part had to have been the night of the horror movie. If you're going into this book because of the "hot" part in the description though, you'll be disappointed. *spoiler* There isn't any hot until almost the end of the book and then there's just too much at once. I read the first bit and then skimmed to see what they were saying through the rest of it. Like any normal humans can have sex that many times? Give me a break.

I know I make it sound like I totally hated this book. If I had I wouldn't have finished it. I did like it for most of the book. I think it was just too darned long! I kept checking to see how much longer there was left in the book at around 70% and it was like looking at the time on a clock when you really want to leave somewhere. It dragged on so slowly. I had every intention of reading the rest of the books in the Cocktail series but by the end of this first book have changed my mind. If those books are anything like this one I don't think I can handle it.

From start to finish this was a hilarious book. I've been trying to read Christmasy books but truthfully so many of them start out pretty depressing that I have a hard time continuing to read until the happy part happens. So I was trying to find something else to read and thought of a book I had enjoyed recently called Chez Stinky. I had started to read the second book in that series Fuzzy Logic and lost interest. It just wasn't funny like the first one. Then it hit me! Look for funny books. I got on Goodreads and found this list called Humorous Romance Books. Can You Keep a Secret is the top one voted by over 850 readers.

I set out to find a light hearted funny book and I wasn't disappointed. If I had to compare it to something I'd say at least at the start it's similar to the Bridget Jones movies. I haven't read the books so I can't make a comparison to those. She's a bit silly and as most women are today uncomfortable in her own skin. She's lied to her boyfriend about pretty much everything and stays with him because everyone says they're the perfect couple. She's bounced from job to job. Her cousin has out-staged her in every way and her family treat her like a child because of it.

As the book progresses I grew to appreciate Emma's personality. I was totally rooting for her and Jack. Even knowing everything would work out in the end because duh it's a romance book I still felt her pain when things all went to hell. I don't think I could have been as brave as Emma was. I think I would have quit my job out of humiliation and never saw Jack again. Wouldn't that have been a pity if she did? I suppose you'll have to read it to find out!

Can You Keep a Secret reminds us that being ourselves, especially around the people who are important to us, is the most important thing of all. It's not a paranormal book, there's no exciting enemy or anything. No steamy sex scenes or big overdeveloped plot. It's not even part of a series... which usually is a deal breaker for me. It's just a fun and intriguing book. Emma, Jack and everyone else in the book are like anyone else out there and I can imagine it all happening in real life. It was different for me as I don't read many contemporary romances or stand-alone novels but a welcome change to be sure.

After 2 Years... I'm Back!

Holy cow. Two years. That's insane. I had no idea it had been that long since I'd posted on this blog. So you're wondering what happened to me eh? Well, I've had a few pretty rough years to tell you the truth. In some cases I wasn't reading at all. Other times I was reading but not keeping track of what I was reading. In rare cases I was reviewing books but only on Goodreads. It all just depended on my mood I suppose. If you want to know more about the whole "mood" thing check out my blog journal Rainy Writes. I'm currently blogging on WordPress for the other two blogs but I decided to keep this one on Blogger because it's the one everyone that used to follow me is familiar with. If the format gets too annoying I might change my mind about that.

Soooo! Let's see. One exciting thing I learned about recently is Bookbub. Like forever ago I participated in a challenge called Clean Out Your E-Reader. Ummm yea. Bookbub filled it back up in the first day. Free books! There are discounted books too but I haven't seen anything that made me want to shell out the cash. The nice part is pretty much all of the books are either stand alone or the first in a series. There's a liberation in knowing that if I don't like a book 10% in I can just stop reading. When you read the free books authors give you to review you can't do that. Or if you paid for it you feel obligated to continue reading because it's a waste of money if you don't.

I suppose I should peek at my "read" shelf on Goodreads and see what I've been reading the last 2 years eh? I'll start with recent reading and work my way back. It's starting the holidays so I've read a few Christmas books. The problem is that all of them seem to start out so darned sad. The main person always has some terrible thing happening in their lives. I realize that it works out in the end but it's kind of depressing! Let's see... before that I was on a major m/m binge. I was trying to find some books I haven't read and read a m/m novella and loved it so I ended up reading a bunch of them including PsyCop, A Matter of Time, The Plumber's Mate, THIRDS, Cut & Run and The Administration. I loved them all so much I would have a hard time picking a favorite!

Before my m/m stage I was re-reading some favorites including Half Moon Hollow/Jane Jameson, Dark Ones, Demonica/Lords of Deliverance, Night Huntress/Night Prince and Nightwalkers. The problem with re-reading books is you can't really register the reading on Goodreads. Some of them I barely remembered other than the main plot. It was enjoyable.

Rewind a year and I was reading Immortal Guardians, Glory St. Clair, Matrix of Destiny, Dragon Lords of Valdier, Kodiak Point, Dark Protectors, Celta's Heartmate's, Midnight Liaisons, Paranormal Dating Agency, Alpha Pack, Accidentals, Garnet Lacey and Outlander. That year was pretty much all about the audiobooks because I was having a terrible side effect from my meds that prevented me from reading. I wore myself out with all of those books so once my vision problems were fixed I avoided books for the first half of 2016.

I think I read some erotica in there somewhere too but for some reason I'm weird about putting those books on my read shelves. Silly, I know. I also read some of the newer books of favorite series that came out in that time like Argeneau, Half-Moon Hollow, Charley Davidson, Psy-Changling and Love at Stake. I'm sure there's more but I skipped by everything that wasn't a series of a bunch of books when I was going through my read shelf.

You see! I have been reading or listening to books in some form off and on over the last two years. I just haven't kept up with the blog. I think it started with the fact that I couldn't for most of 2015 because of that weird side effect and then I just didn't feel like it after I hadn't in so long. Reviewing books is different than just reading them. I'll highlight parts I want to remember to mention or quotes I want to use. I'm usually writing the review in my head as I read and in some cases I might go as far as to start typing the review out as I read so I don't forget everything. I don't have the luxury of just going on to the next book of a series when I finish the one before it. I have to stop and write up the review first. As much as I love it, it can be sort of a drag. But, I miss it! So look forward to hearing more from me soon. I'm hoping to do 1-4 reviews a month to get back into the swing of it. I've missed you all! First of all let me say I started reading this book in May. I read approximately 30% of it before I hit a wall and just couldn't go any further. I tried picking it up again several times over the months but it just couldn't catch my interest. Finally I decided enough is enough this is one of my favorite book series and I'm going to read it darnit! There were good parts that I read really fast and then other parts where I had to put the book down again and again. I'm just so sick of Charley getting herself into trouble. She has no value to her own life and just rushes into everything headfirst without thinking. I know it's been that way in all the books but seriously it's getting old.

I really don't know what I could say about this book that isn't already in the description. Even though the new book Seventh Grave and No Body is out I don't know when I'll get around to reading it. I read the description and it sounds like it starts up right where this one left off. I'm just not in the mood for more of that.

His usual magical option of shifting planes is blocked, so instead of playing hide-and-seek, the game plan is . . . run like hell.

Crashing the pantheon marathon is the Norse god Loki. Killing Atticus is the only loose end he needs to tie up before unleashing Ragnarok—AKA the Apocalypse. Atticus and Granuaile have to outfox the Olympians and contain the god of mischief if they want to go on living—and still have a world to live in.

Yet another great book in the Iron Druid Chronicles series. I am reviewing the audiobook version which is narrated by Luke Daniels yet again. He does such a great job and tops my list of favorite narrators. So much happens in this book I have no idea where to begin. The book starts up exactly where the last book Trapped ended. With Artemis and Diana hunting down Atticus looking for Baccus and the Morrigan defending him. This leads to the Morrigan telling Atticus the only path he can take that she has forseen he would live. Atticus, Granuaile and Oberon have to run the whole way there because once again the paths are blocked to them.

They are hunted by dark elves, vampires and all kinds of different creatures in addition to Artemis and Diana. There was one part around the middle that had me bawling. And if I've said it once I'll say it a hundred times the best books are the ones that make you laugh and make you cry. The books that draw you so close to the characters and their struggles that you feel what they feel. Kevin Hearne does a wonderful job of this. Especially in Hunted. Hunted is the 6th book in the Iron Druid Chronicles. If you like mythology, lots of action and tons of humor you should really check out Hounded which is the first book in the series. You won't regret it.

This review is of the audiobook version of Trapped. Once again Luke Daniels does a wonderful job narrating for The Iron Druid series. I especially love his voice for Oberon, the Irish wolfhound. So much happened in Trapped that I'm having a hard time thinking where to start. Like the synopsis says Granuaile has completed her druid training and only has the binding to the earth left before she is a full druid. This is the tattooing process that takes 3 months to complete. The problem is that something is blocking Atticus from traveling to anywhere in Europe except for Greece. This brings up a bigger problem because now that everyone knows that Atticus and Granuaile are alive Atticus has a big target on his back. They have to travel to several different places to complete the tattoos and even once they are complete their problems only get worse. There's a lot of action and humor as always. Even a bit of romance. If you've gotten this far into the series you'll trust me when I say this was most likely my favorite book so far. I'll say no more because I don't want to give anything away.

I have to admit it took me awhile to get through this book. I actually started it months ago and quit reading and just started back last week. It's a lot different than any of the other Love at Stake books. It has it's funny moments but it's a lot more serious than I'm used to from Kerrelyn Sparks. So much was revealed near the end of the book and there were so many loose ends that I expect the story to pick up with the next book right where it left off in this one.

I never paid much attention to Zoltan in the previous books. He's a vampire that lives as a count in Transylvania. That's about all I can remember of him. How to Seduce a Vampire goes into his past and his character. I really got to like him. He's just an all around nice guy. He meets Neona while investigating the murder of his father. Neona had to grow on me. She's like a warrior princess, literally. She lives in the jungle with a group of warrior women. I didn't know what to think of her at first. She's not your usual Love at Stake heroine. But by the end I liked her too.

It's hard to do a review of this book because so many things happen and there are so many secrets that I don't want to ruin for anyone reading this. Let me just say that if you have a hard time getting into it at the beginning like I did it does get better and it gets really good about halfway through. It's worth the read if anything just to keep up with the series because there's no way you could skip this book.

Ok this is my first real review after a 5 month hiatus so be easy on me. I picked this book to re-read because I remembered it as one of my favorites. I spent a lot of time trying to think of a favorite book but couldn't think of one particular book. Instead I had several book series that topped the list in my mind. Nice Girls Don't was on that list. This is the first book I have been able to start and finish since May so I think it was a good choice. I might just re-read the whole series. We'll see. And now on to the actual book review.

Jane Jameson is on of my all time favorite characters. She is hilarious for one. Second she's just this down to earth, don't care what anybody thinks of me type of person. I really like her. I like Gabriel, her sire as well. Hell, I like all of the characters in this book. Zeb and his girlfriend and Andrea and even Dick. They all grow on you and make you love them!

This book has it all. A bit of romance, suspense and mystery. Most of all it has humor in spades. I laughed so hard through the whole book. The romance between Jane and Gabriel is even funny. My favorite is when they break the glass coffee table and have shards of it digging into them as they make out. All in all it's a great book and I highly recommend it. If you like humor in your romance than this book is definitely for you.

I couldn't think of any particular song. I listen to Pandora so I get a mix most of the time. Nothing new has come out that really stuck with me lately. The one song that keeps going through my head though is Greased Lightning from the movie Grease because my son keeps talking about auto class! LOL Fun fact: John Travolta lives about 15 minutes from me.

Omega Mine is the first book in the Alpha & Omega series. While I found it interesting it had a hard time keeping my attention. It was a good story which is why I gave it 3 stars but it couldn't keep my attention. I love shifter books and Diskant, as an Omega, is like the ultimate shifter. He can shift into several different animals. Ava is a telepathic who knows about shifters even though most people don't. In this series shifters know who their mate is as soon as they meet them. What happened after they met was pretty funny.

Of course with any book there has to be the bad guys. In this case it's the Shepard's. They hunt down and kill shifters because they say that they're demon possessed. There's also a group of people that keep records of all the shifters and people like Ava that have extra sensory perception. Seems a little overkill to me.

I read this book 4 months ago so it's hard to remember all the details to do a review. Please forgive the shortness of this review. Thanks for stopping by.

I haven't posted on this blog since May. I'm extremely disappointed that I missed my blogoversary in September. The truth is I just haven't felt like reading. Nothing has been able to keep my attention. I ended up playing a video game called The Sims instead. I made a blog and tell stories and do challenges with the game. I love it but I really miss reading and the reading blog community. I don't think that I'll ever be able to go back to reading as many books as I used to read. I averaged a book a day for about 2 years. Now I'm lucky if I can get through a few pages. I've put out a request for recommendations on Goodreads so hopefully I'll get some ideas of books to read from there. What I had thought was a good idea was to re-read my favorite book. I thought long and hard and truthfully I can't single out one book or series as my favorite! I had all these challenges that I had planned to do this year and won't. But on the bright side I plan to get this blog up and running again. I'm hoping I can read a book a week. If you have any ideas of great books please list your favorites in the comments section. Despite having a huge to-read list on Goodreads I find recommendations are the best way to find books. Thanks in advance!

I have been waiting for this book since I read Bear Necessities, the first book in the Halle Shifters series almost a year ago. It was worth the wait. Dana Marie Bell does such a good job of mixing serious and humorous in her books. If you haven't read the Halle Shifters series yet you'll want to read the Halle Pumas and Pocono Wolves books first. The pumas and wolves are usually in or at least mentioned in the Halle Shifters books. I look forward to the next book in this series although there isn't one shown on the Goodreads page yet I'll keep watching for it.

I love Glory. She's this crazy blue haired girl that works as a piercer in a tattoo shop with her best friends. Although she puts up a good front she is very insecure due to her twin sisters disappearance and her families abandonment. That abandonment makes her feel that she will lose anyone that she gets close to. So although she is attracted to Ryan she is afraid to let him in. Ryan has his work cut out for him. As a shifter, once he meets his mate, the need for his mate is like a driving force that could make him go insane.

There's a lot more to this book than just Glory and Ryan's story. The story picks up where Cynful left off. Have I mentioned how much I love these books? It's not your regular romance story... lots of action and mystery. But at the same time you cheer for them to get together. Another great book by Dana Marie Bell.

But Graham is up against a new enemy, one who could spell danger and death to all of Shiftertown. Graham must now defend his leadership and save Misty, the woman he has grown to love—before Shiftertown is pulled into an all-out war.

Wild Wolf is book 6 in the Shifters Unbound series. There are like 6 novellas in between the books. I've read and loved them all. The series is really starting to heat up now with Wild Wolf. I seem to say this a lot but the book description doesn't compare to the book itself. If you've read the previous books than you are familiar with Misty. She's the girl who chats with Graham at the shifter bar after he fights with Eric. Some jerk tries to get Misty to spy on Graham and she tells him about it. That was in book 4 Mate Claimed.

Wild Wolf takes place approximately a year after Mate Claimed. At this point Graham is sort of dating Misty. Misty is kidnapped and Graham comes to save her. In doing so he gets hurt and their relationship starts to crumble. With being hurt he is afraid he cannot hold onto his place in shiftertown. All the shifters are pressuring him to take a mate so that he will have a strong heir.

I don't want to say much more because it'll ruin the surprises but let me just say that it's all been leading up to this. All the work on taking the collars off and such. All leading up to the shocks that you'll read in Wild Wolf.

I really like Misty and Graham so this was a great book if you ask me. I enjoyed the by-play between them and Graham's nephew Dougal. Also the twin cubs that Graham is taking care of. All in all I wouldn't say it was an especially romantic book but there was a lot of action and lots of laughs which made up for it.

“You heard me right, but you can get your mind out of the gutter.” Holt’s laconic tone was shaded with a hint of laughter at her expense. “I said sleep with him, not screw him. What you two get up to is on your conscience. All I ask is that you share a bed.”
“I… what…?” She glanced around wildly, wondering if anyone else had overheard him. Surely this had to be a joke. Would Holt’s youngest son, Rob, come rushing out with a video camera? He was always playing practical jokes.
“Sleep with my son for fourteen consecutive nights. All night. That’s it. Your bison gets a pasture, food, and shelter for the rest of her life. What do you say?”
She sputtered, searching for something to say that encompassed the depth of her anger that he’d even speak to her this way. She settled on sarcasm. “Two weeks? I’ll have to check my calendar. Some other guy’s father might have extorted me to sleep with him one of those nights.”
Holt chuckled. “Just how many bison do you have stashed around the ranches in these parts?”
“I don’t need to listen to this.”
“By the way, the son in question is Jake.” He eyed her sharply and Hannah felt the heat creep up her cheeks all over again.
Jake?
An image of them together in bed—naked, disheveled—flashed into her mind and her body tingled with the idea of it. She and Jake could have a lot of fun between the sheets.
She forced the thought out of her head. “Not interested.”
“Then I guess I’ll get my pasture back sooner than I thought. And I’ll have to find some other woman to get my son’s mind on marriage.”
“Damn it, Holt—that’s not fair.”
“Which part isn’t? The part where I eat your bison or the part where another woman sleeps with my son?”

Review:

This is the 6th book in the Cowboys of Chance Creek series and the 2nd Matheson book. The first was Rob's book... book 5. Although I didn't like Rob's book as much I loved Jake's. Jake is the oldest Matheson son and the father Holt has decided it's about time to get him married off. Hannah is the vet assistant of Bella from The Cowgirl Ropes a Billionaire and the girl who rescued the bison in the last book.

After reading the description and the excerpt I'm not sure there's much more that I can add to it. I really enjoyed this book and flew through it in a day. I'm a big fan of the Cowboys of Chance Creek series and have read them all. They are light fun reads. The Cowboy Lasso's a Bride doesn't disappoint.

Hannah and Jake, despite their differences make a great couple and it was fun learning more about each of them. I look forward to updates on how they are doing in the next two books which are Jake's brothers. I wonder if Holt gets up to his old tricks with them.

In Austin, Jace meets Deni Rowe, a wolf Shifter with troubles of her own—she was deliberately run down in the road, and while her body has healed, she still has episodes of total memory loss during which she retreats into her pure animal self.

Jace has never met anyone like Deni. Courageous and beautiful, she volunteers to help him test the Collar removal. And as Deni and Jace work together, they feel the mate bond begin. But can Jace help Deni believe she can heal enough to be anyone’s true mate?

I cruised through this novella in an afternoon. I love the Shifters Unbound series. If you're not familiar with the characters Jace is Eric's son... the head of the Las Vegas shifters and Deni is Ellison's sister. Jace is visiting Austin to help with the problem of trying to remove the collars when he meets Deni.

This one wasn't as good as some of the other Shifters Unbound books but it was still worth the read. You might remember from Ellison's book that Deni has some major issues after a car rammed her on her motorcycle the year before. She has a hard time holding back her feral side and has blackouts.

There isn't much romance in this story at all. It's a series of events that throws together two very unlikely shifters. I enjoyed the story altogether though I can't say I have a favorite part or quote for this one.

The book description leaves out quite a bit. Sara is neighbors with Bonnie and Lynx from book 4 of the Cat Star Chronicles series, Outcast. They are in the book quite a bit and anyone who knows me knows that I love updates on previous characters. I figure it's about 20 years since the first book since Jack and Cat have teenage children. Yes, there's a few parts with them in the book as well as some other books. I was very pleased.

But enough about previous characters! This book is about Sara and Jerden. Sara has sworn off men due to a rape when she was young and has no interest in any mans advances even Jerden. Jerden is suffering from the brutal murder of a co-worker at the brothel he worked at before becoming Sara's neighbor. He has secluded himself because he sees either the face of the girl or her murderer in every woman... until Sara.

As with all of the Cat Star Chronicle books there are some lengthy sex scenes. I have to confess to skipping ahead a few times. One of the things I enjoyed in this book were how wild animals would follow Jerden around. Including Sara's lost horse. That horse was a matchmaker I swear! I also enjoyed the back and forth between Sara and her employees. Some of it had me laughing so hard.

All in all a great addition to the Cat Star Chronicles series. If you aren't familiar with the series it is very good and I would strongly suggest starting with book 1 Slave. There is a lot that is discussed that someone jumping into the series would be confused about. Trust me, the books are worth the read.

It took me all of 2 seconds to think of what book I wanted to talk about... Allegiant by Veronica Roth:

You can read my review here. I have had several people tell me after reading Allegiant that they wished they would have listened to me and stopped at Divergent. Divergent is one of my all-time favorite young adult books. I absolutely loved it. The second book, Insurgent, was pretty good. But in my opinion Allegiant was terrible. Because of things that happen in the third and last book of this series I cry when I see commercials for the Divergent movie. I'm afraid to go see the movie because I don't want to cry through it. The book broke my heart. I also had a terrible time getting through it. It took me weeks to read. I won't yammer on any longer because I know you have other blogs to stop at just let me say that if you haven't read this book yet and when you read Divergent you love that book I would advise you to stop there and enjoy the glow of a wonderful book.

Because I can remember waiting for each book to come out... talking to my brother about the books when they came out and sharing the series with my son when he was old enough to read them. There is no other series that can compare with the complexity of The Wheel of Time.
