"A little asymmetry of the blade’s cross-section is not normally a problem ..."

Except for left-handers. Most asymmetrical knife blades will have serrations to the left, or the edge will be beveled to the left, fine for right-handers, cutting straight down and letting the slices fall away from the blade. For left-handers, such knives tend to cut away from the piece, the slice of tomato/sausage thinner at the end of the cut, or worse, half-moon shaped slices.

An "oxbow lake" is known as a billabong in Australia, because Australians wouldn't know what an ox bow would look like (it's a curved wooden collar that holds the yoke in place around the ox's neck).

Hertford in England was originally spelt as Hartford but in the late 17th Century / Early 18th Century the alternative spelling became popular and eventually took over.

I don't doubt this phenomenon, but it's a bit puzzling. If the effect is simply due to differing refraction of different colors, I would expect to see a rainbow-like fringe at the edge of the glowing part, rather than a greenish blob.

Incidentally, bright stars close to the horizon sometimes seem to alternate between red and green due to refraction. Capella and Arcturus are frequently named as stars that exhibit this effect.

There's no evidence to suggest that. He did not have his own foundry and therefore needed Morochetti who did have his own foundry.

So do you think it was really Marochetti who sculpted these? Getting Marochetti to "do the casting" may have been Landseer's way of saving face when he realised he was in beyond his depth.
