I was invited to my buddy Kazu's grandfather's birthday at the Oceanarium at the Pacific Beach Hotel and was super impressed. Active Ride Shops are a mall type chain of stores that were initially skate and snowboard driven, but seem to have found a fashion angle by carrying brands from Crooks & Castles, The Hundreds, to the biggies like LRG, Stussy, Nike SB, Obey and RVCA. I remember going to Baskin Robbins with my parents on a hot summer night, and I was allowed for the first time to get a double scoop of Mint Chocolate Chip on a sugar cone. After getting what looked like 2 stacked massive scoops bigger than my head, I began tearing up my cone o' mint chip. A few seconds later, my extremely strong tongue managed to knock by ice cream off the cone onto the hot asphalt. I panicked and even thought of picking up the scoop as it almost instantly turned into a creamy river of mint colored tears on the ground. Luckily, I can erase all of my childhood trauma of dropping ice cream and head on over to Baskin Robbins for their $.31 scoop night. Yes, that's 31 cents for one scoop.
