29 November 2011

Purple Mind Productions partners with The Center for International Media Ethics to support ethical journalism

29 November 2011, Bucharest - Purple Mind Productions has established a unique partnership with The Center for International Media Ethics (CIME) to support and promote ethical journalism, with a special focus on Romania, where the company’s headquarters are based.

“The purpose of the new established partnership between Purple Mind Productions and The Center for International Media Ethics is to improve journalists’ ethical standards in each of the countries where the company has a presence. In our view, bringing journalists together with CIME’s ethical experts in an online community, encouraging them to discuss about the best ways to deal with an ethical issue when covering a story, offering trainings and workshops and also giving them good networking opportunities can be a way to fight against the pressures that surround the modern media” said today Liliana Ciobanu, Chief Executive Purple Mind Productions.

Csilla Szabó, Staff Director of CIME declared that: “CIME’s recent media ethics survey revealed that journalists want to perform ethically but often lack the motivation, support and convenient circumstances to do so. Training, workshops and publications educating journalists and editors would help gain higher ethical integrity and improve the standards of journalism all over the world.”

She mentioned further: “CIME encourages journalists to take on a proactive role in defining ethical practices through the choices and decisions made at work on a daily basis. This partnership between CIME and Purple Mind Productions will urge journalists to work together to make their own judgments and identify their own strategies.”

This partnership is one of the first steps Purple Mind Productions is taking in order to deliver the company's mission.“We are witnessing a world where phones are hacked by journalists and editors are hiring private detectives to spy on someone’s private life. This is a world where some media companies are not fulfilling the responsibility to report the news in the public interest but are rather used to advance some private business interests. In this crushing financial market, where the pressure of deadlines and competition are getting bigger and bigger with each headline, the question of how many ethical principles one can break for the sake of the story has recently brought to light some dark answers. If we, the journalists, don’t do anything about it, nobody will.”mentioned Liliana Ciobanu.

In the light of the new partnership, Purple Mind Productions and The Center for International Media Ethics are currently working to develop a series of projects for the beginning of next year.
