I have to admit – I love achievements, I really do. I love that little “blip” when you’ve did something that will increase your gamer score. I have to credit the whole achievement system with actually reigniting my love for video gaming. There’s just something really fun about beating a game, then having it permanently listed beside your username, to show the world that yes, you played Gears of War 2 on insane, and you lived to tell the tale.

I’ve also found Xbox 360 achievements have helped in social settings. I was out with a few people a month ago, and there was one person there I had never met before. The topic of video games came up, and as we both had XBox 360s we swapped gamer tags just for the hell of it. I went out with that same group of people a couple of weeks later, and I spent most of the night just talking to that guy, chatting about the achievements he had, and that I had. He even asked for advice on how to get a bigger gamer score, as he has a competition going with one of his co-workers.

I promised him next time we go out, I’d bring Avatar with me.

So yeah, I’m a big fan of achievements, and I have a 75k gamer score to prove it. However let’s be honest – the term is “achievements” is just a tad ambiguous. I’d estimate less than 30% of all potential achievements are actual true achievements. Now that’s fine – sure, it’s a bit sad to sit there with a printed off map for 5 hours shooting and killing 200 pigeons just to show the world that you did it – but at least you have something to show for it. It was a lot sadder finding all those hidden parcels to 100% earlier GTA games “just because”.

My only problem – and it’s a big one, is online achievements. Because as the title of this article suggests; they’re ruining online gaming.

The inspiration from this article came when, after a nice dinner, I sat down to chill for an hour and play some Fifa 2010. I find playing against the AI is rather boring, so I like to go online and play people. Now online play can be frustrating at times, especially in sports games when people quit out after they start to lose, but it’s something that I just have to suck up and live with – because that’s the way many online games are.

Achievements have made it a hell of a lot worse.

I started up a game of Fifa 2010, and within seconds of kickoff my opponent got the ball, ran to his own net and scored an own goal, then immediately quit. What? Why did he quit that early? Why did he score an own goal? I assume it was just some sort of internet connection problem or just someone messing around, so I went to play someone else. Seconds into the match, this person got the ball, ran to his own net, scored an own goal and quit on me too! I was wondering if there was problems with XBox Live so I messaged the person and asked. He replied:

“Sorry bro, doing it to get an achievement.”

What? Quitting games seconds in for an achievement? That doesn’t make any sense. So I logged on to the internet to check, and sure enough: there’s an achievement entitled Bad Loser. To get the achievement you have to quit 5 xbox live matches when you are losing.

Seriously, what the hell?

Now this is a 0g achievement – it won’t affect your gamerscore, but it’s still an achievement nonetheless, and you’re always going to have people going for it – people who like to get as many achievements as possible, no matter what they are, what you have to do to get them or what they are worth.

So EA deliberately put in an “achievement” which essentially encourages players to lose and quit matches.

I wish this was just a one-off, but in reality the majority of online achievements found in games are ones that disrupt the whole point of online play. Thankfully they’re not all that bad, but really – if you’re sitting there playing an online game and going out of your way to do something you really shouldn’t be doing – you’re ruining the whole point of online gaming.

Let me give a few examples of achievements that disrupt online gaming, some specific to games, and some achievements you can find in a majority of games:

Blitz The League: Lose 5 games in a row online. So you can sit there and play people, and they’ll just let you win, taking all the competition out of it, just so they can get an achievement.

Call of Duty 3: There are achievements for getting up to 40,000 total points in online multiplayer. The best way to do this is to be the person that scores the flag, or secures the HQ. So if you have an achievement junkie on your team, don’t even think you can count on them to back you up, or look out for you and your team, because they’re going to be doing it just for themselves, so they can get that precious 120 gamerscore points.

Play Every Map/Gametype: This is a popular achievement found in games, where you have to play every sort of game mode like Deathmatch, Capture the Flag etc, or every different map. Why exactly is this an achievement? What you often get is people going for this achievement, and not actually caring about the game itself. Some of them even start up the game, then go off and do something else, just so they can get that achievement.

Another one that is similar to the above is play X amount games of multiplayer. Again, it encourages people to just join up and let it sit there.

Kill X amount of enemies with ____(insert weapon here): Now okay – I can understand WHY so many online games have this sort of achievement – it encourages variety, but again it comes at the expense of online play. It’s happened to me way too often – playing a team deathmatch, and half my team members are spending their time lobbing grenades or trying to stab the opposite team with a knife, just to get a lousy 10g.

Frontline Fuel of War: This one actually has an achievement for killing YOURSELF 10 times in a multiplayer game. There’s nothing I like more than teaming up with someone who is going to spend the whole game throwing grenades at their feet.

Battlefield Bad Company: Man, where do I start with this one? Let’s see – 15g for hanging back at the gold crates and letting 20 teammates die and respawn on top of you. Destroy 1000 walls and knock down 1000 trees rather than you know – try and help your team? – for 15g each. Battlefield Bad Company 2 is even worse. “Hey, think you can go a sniper and cover us from afar?” “Sorry, I’m going an engineer and will kill someone with my repair tool – it’s 15g you know!”. “Hey can you give me some cover fire?” “Sorry, I already killed someone with my M60 and my RPG-7, I need to go knife someone now.”

I’m not anti-achievements, really. I love them, and I have a 75k gamerscore to back that up. I’m in the Mile High Club. I spent 5 hours freeskating in Skate. I’ve killed 7 chickens in under 10 seconds in Modern Warfare 2. I’ve even saved my game of Fallout 3 at Level 19, just so I could go back and redo it again, getting to Level 20 with all 3 different types of karma.

What I’ve never done however, is disrupt an online game or another persons enjoyment just for the sake of achievements. And really – is it worth paying over $50 a year just to meet people who spend the game jumping off high ledges, deliberately losing or hiding out in a corner?

Because I don’t think it is.

How to Get Game Save Data Off Dead PS3 Hard Drive Blinking Yellow?

Though you were upset with the dreaded red/yellow light of death on your ps3, are you now worried if it would be possible to get game save data off your dead PS3 hard drive?

Well, if you send your ps3 to Sony, you’ll lose all your game data…because you will either get a refurbished one or a reformatted wiped out hard drive.

Either way, you’ll lose all the saved data. However you can try to recover those data with the help of the options shown on DIY ps3 lights fix repair guide by Rob Sheffield besides you can save $120+ on the repair cost if your PS3 is out of warranty.

Recently my PS3 started blinking red light which turned to yellow light later, when I was playing Modern Warfare 2. Since my ps3 was out of warranty Sony said they would charge me $150 + Shipping & Handling charges to fix my PS3 and I have to wait for 4-6 weeks.

Since I didn’t want to spend that much money and also didn’t like to wait for 6 weeks without playing my favorite games Assassin’s Creed and Grand Theft Auto, I thought why not let me try to fix my PS3 myself.

But first I have to get some book or guide that should tell me all about this Yellow Light of Death and How to fix it. I then saw a website called ps3 lights fix by Rob Sheffield – a PS3 repair expert offering a simple guide with detailed Videos, Guides, One-on-one help and 24/7 Support. The guide promised to be perfect for beginners.

The guide for the promotional price $37 included

5 videos

A 67 page eBook with easy to follow step-by-step instructions and many full color pictures. Chapters include Cooling it down, The Reset Trick, Clean your PS3 internally (video), Format the newly installed Hard Drive, PS3 Freezing Fix, PS3 Red Screen Of Death Fix, Power Supply Malfunction, Hard Drive Failure/Reinstallation (video), Motherboard Problems (video)and Fix Blu-Ray Drive

Access to members area

24/7 Support and one-on-one help, when needed!

The guide detailed how to permanently fix the Yellow Light of Death (YLOD), Red Light, repair blu-ray drive and 3 beeps issue.

With the help of this repair guide by Rob Sheffield, it took me almost 2 hrs to fix my problem and I felt it was safe and easy and hell the videos helped me a lot. They are detailed and to the point, even I…. repaired my PS3 with this guide.

Being a beginner I was little nervous and doubted myself if I could fix my PS3 all by myself, thanks to Rob Sheffield I’ve resumed playing all my favorite games without sending it to Sony besides saving a whopping money of $120

The guide also includes an ebook ‘How to Retain the Hard Drive Data‘, which exactly explains How to Get Game Save Data Off Dead PS3 Hard Drive After Yellow Light of Death? (YLOD). The guide explains basically two options to do this. So if you want to know how to back up PS3 saved data after red or yellow light of death (YLOD), and also would like to fix your PS3 all by yourself saving $120+ and 4-6 weeks waiting time then instantly download the repair guide here

Many role playing game systems talk about low light vision or seeing in near total darkness which can be thought of as similar to using modern night vision glasses. Basically characters or creatures with this ability see in much more detail in areas or at times of day when light is very limited. This could be expressed by making relative statements so players understand the ability such as: X creature can see as well by the light of a full moon as a normal human sees on a bright sunny day. Statements like this by GM’s or in game system texts help players relate a sometimes abstract game concept to real life understanding.

Another method is simply to give a range of vision in feet or yards in darkened conditions. This requires GM’s to be specific when stating the levels of light by relating them to real life lighting conditions that all in attendance can relate to. I generally like to do this by saying that X creature can see as well by the light of one candle as normal humans can using a powerful flashlight or that the single candle gives of XY number of feet radios of light for this low light capable creature.

In the RPG Percentile system both types of descriptions are used where either a comparative low light visibility is used for many creatures and a range in feet is used for devices such as cameras or night vision goggles. In either case low light vision is different from seeing in total darkness. Some species may possess the ability to see in total darkness; however one must understand what total darkness actually means. In terms of vision for creatures who see like normal terrestrial humans or animals it means total absence of radiation in the visible part of the electromagnetic spectrum. Creatures that possess an ability to see in total darkness must possess the means to see beyond the normal visible spectrum and may be able to perceive things like UV, IR, or even X-ray emissions.

In the case of creature being able to perceive electromagnetic radiation outside of visible light they may also be able to see things like dangerous radiation and quasi invisible things like gasses in lighted areas. This is an obvious possible innate ability if one thinks of “dark vision” in real world terms. This is something many game systems simply don’t address specifically but something game masters may want to keep in mind. For some examples of how this process may work one can refer to many Hubble Telescope pictures on NASA’s websites that were taken with cameras sensitive to EM other than visible light. Game Masters may have to be imaginative and fudge things just a bit unless you have a degree in radio spectrography and know what ranges of the EM spectrum things may show up best in. However one can make general assumptions for some obvious things such as hot steam that would be highly visible to creatures sensitive to Infrared radiation. Whereas things like dangerous radiation sources or leaky nuclear batteries might be high visible to creatures that see into the X-ray or Gama ray spectrum. This ability can be expressed as a die roll to perceive an object made by the GM to see if the character or creature in question notices the phenomenon or if they are actively looking can be made by the player.

Civilization Wars is a 2D online flash game not to be confused with Sid Meier’s popular PC series civilization. On the main menu you select from normal or hard modes, and on each of these you can see three stages, each one gets progressively harder than the last, and to unlock the next in the series you must complete the last. This game boasts terrific longevity and is not a game you will be able to complete in one sitting, so instead of starting over again every time which would make no sense developers have added a save and load button.

The first levels you come across are a tutorial; these are handy to play because they give you a feel of the game itself. Your strategy is to capture every building on the map, and to do this you must select your people and send them into battle. To assist you along the way you can regenerate your people by sending them into buildings. Other buildings replenishing your mana, which helps for magic attacks and some, will just act as a defence barrier between you and your enemy.

To see how many troops are in each one of your buildings, there is a small number above the building itself. To use these troops to attack an enemy building click on it, then drag and drop a building (or a selection of buildings) onto an enemy barracks. When you do this you will see your troops leave your building and enter the enemy buildings to battle. There are two outcomes here, either you are victorious and therefore, will gain the rights to the building or your adversary will slay all your troops, leaving you shorthanded and in danger.

Sometimes you can use all your troops and it is still not enough, so it is time to bring on the spells of magic to help you. You will find that the further you progress through the game, the more spells you unlock for use on harder levels. There are also a selection of other upgrades including upgrades to your troops attack and defences.

As you progress through the game you will come across some boss stages, however, these are no ordinary bosses like kings or knights, but instead are colossal animals. These animals bring a massive test to the game because they are particularly hard to defeat. If you find that you cannot defeat a stage, then you can go back to a previous battle to gain more experience. This is handy if you need to do it, but for a better gaming experience I suggest you try and defeat the stage without any help, even though it may not seem like it you can overcome all of the levels.

Unlike some other flash strategy games, where play is often one dimensional, Civilization Wars requires a lot of thought and imagination. If you are an avid strategy gamer you could do much worse than Civilization Wars.

Another addictive flash game worth playing is The Company of Myself, which is a puzzle game where you use a shade of your former self to help you overcome challenges.

You have a website with free online flash games and you want to make it better? Well, here is some tips to make it rock and make it more exciting!

To begin with, think about that: If you were a visitor and you just wanted to play some flash games, what would you like and what don’t?

So be careful! Think as a visitor and not as a businessman! Respect your visitors, don’t make your website heavy, make it simple, light and clear (don’t trick your visitors with the ads).

Let’s take a look what you should do to make your website exciting:

1) Make it on your own!

Don’t use ready-made platforms. This is the most important think to be successful. Why? Because as the website gets bigger and bigger, you will always:

a) need to improve it more and more,

b) make it better,

c) develop patents to make your life easier and decrease the time that you spend to update it,

c) make your job easier,

d) change thinks that don’t work,

e) make unique scripts to make your site more powerful.

2) Update your games frequently!

This, will help you get more visits from people who bookmarked your site. If they come often and see new games, they will stick with it and they will come again and again.

3) Make your website SEO friendly!

It will help the search engines to crawl your website and bring more visitors. Take care your keywords, your texts, your images and generally your content.

4) Exchange links!

Exchange links with other gamesites. It will improve your Google page rank and it will bring more visitors.

5) Check your emails and respond fast!

By doing this, you expand your relations with other people, you show to your visitors that you are here. This will help you grow your site faster.

6) Be creative!

Try to make your people react with your site and with each other, try not to get them bored! Think think think! Create things that will keep them busy. If you can keep your visitors for big amount of time into your website, if you made them have a good time, then you are successful!

7) Add additional info for each game!

This means more time for you to add each game, but think that it will help your visitors very much. And it means that probably they will come back again sometime! So add screen shots from inside the game, a nice description, game size, ratings, how many times it is played, etc.

 Be patient!

Because there is too much competition out there you need to be patient! Your site will not grow and will not have too many visitors from day by day, week by week. If you have faith and continue to work on it, you will then slowly be awarded!

The general idea to have your website with free online flash games be more excited is to:

a) stick with your site,

b) love it,

c) spend time on it,

d) expand it,

e) experiment with whatever you think it will help.

and you are gonna be just fine!

You can see an example in this arcade games website. All the above information i gave you, is taking place in there and it works fine! It Just needs patience.

As one of the most famous gaming console, herds of gamers lined up outside their nearest game stores when Xbox released their new version. With its slick design and superb gaming features, people have a hard time resisting buying the console even though it has a fairly steep price. Just like its console, Xbox game disc are also quite pricey to buy.

That is why many Xbox gamers go for making backups of the Xbox 360 games in case the original disc gets damaged or lost.

For gamers who have limited financial resources, making a backup disc of their Xbox games is a sensible thing to do. With free copying software available all over the net, one can make a copy of Xbox games without spending much money.

Though I must warn you that these free downloaded softwares are fairly uncertain, you must be incredibly careful and make sure you computer is heavily protected, as these types of freebies often come with a complimentary virus too.

If you want to be on the safe side, just purchase one of the inexpensive copying software programs.

With this, you can be sure that the software will work instead of corrupting your computer.

Most of this purchased software comes with a money back warranty and technical support you can depend on for troubleshooting.

Much better than a ruined laptop or PC and backup discs that won’t work.

Replacing an original Xbox game with another new one when its damaged is great, this can often only be done by those who can afford it, without cringing at its price and feeling bankrupt the moment they leave the counter.

When you backup Xbox games, you don’t have to spend some hefty sum buying second or third copies of your game, leaving you poor and annoyed afterwards.

Multiplayer life games can easily be the perfect games for non-gamers to play. These life games do not require you to reach higher levels to experience better game play. They often fail to feature any violence, and no other real ‘gaming’ aspects. You are simply living life through a multiplayer online ‘game’ that mimics the real world.

With that being said, there are tips for those who want to play these life games. These tips will help you to get the most out of your multiplayer game.

Interact with All:

If you want to have the most enjoyable experience possible, you should interact with as many people as possible. By simply being friendly and saying hi, you may find people who could help you to enjoy the game. If you want to interact with as many people as possible, just say hello. If the person is responsive, you can start to hold a full conversation that may lead to a deeper connection.

Connect with Some:

Try to connect with people that you can easily talk to online. These people will become your online friends, and may be able to help you in the game. They may also be friends who can give you advice with issues that you face in real life.

Help Others Out when Possible:

As in any real life community, you should help others who need help. Some ma be looking for help with the game. Others are simply looking for people to talk to. Try to be there for people, as it can help to build relationships. Eventually, you will have someone who can be there for you when you need help.

Play Regularly:

If you want to be successful at the game and foster these relationships, you need to play regularly. If you disappear for a week at a time, you will lose any relationships that you make.

Watch your Budget:

There are multiplayer games that are free, but feature fees down the road for those who want to play upgraded versions of the game. If need be, plan a monthly budget for your online gaming. Be sure to stick to this budget as tightly as possible. While it may be fun to play around in a virtual life, you need to make sure that you have enough money for actual life.

In all reality, the tips for multiplayer life games mimic many tips for real life in general. You should always aim to interact with as many people as possible in the real world, and should make connections with some of those people.

At some point, you must realize that the multiplayer game is not real life, however, and plan accordingly. While you should play regularly, you still need to interact outside of the game. You also need to make sure that you are not spending too much on the game. If you can manage to follow these various tips, you will fully enjoy your multiplayer gaming experience.

If you are playing World of Warcraft, you will find that there are numerous items and features you want to pay close attention to. However, there is no secret behind the importance of World of Warcraft gold. It is vital for WoW players to collect gold as much as possible in order to improve the equipment of your character. Not only will gold improve the equipment of your character, but it will also allow your character to get the training needed to further develop the skills in their different professions. Because of this, you want to attain as much gold as possible as quickly as you can.

However, what exactly are you willing to do in order to collect your gold?

1. WoW players can farm world of warcraft gold using a couple of different techniques. What you need to understand is that both techniques require time and patience as you go through the game slaughtering various humanoid creatures. Although it may seem a bit monotonous, humanoid creeps drop gold and cloth that you can collect. The benefit of collecting the cloth is that it can be a valuable commodity to sell at the Auction House for a hefty price.

2. The other technique is to slaughter or follow non humanoid creeps as they can be skinned for leather. This too is a profitable item that you can sell at the Auction House. Regardless of the method you pursue, just know that it will take time to build up your gold these ways.

3. Another option to build up your cheap wow gold is to find what items are selling hot. You can then purchase these items and turn around and sell them for far more. This can be risky as you do not know if the items will continue to be popular, but it can be a quick way to attain gold.

4. The last method to build up wow gold, and by far the riskiest, is to purchase them over the internet. Amazingly, there are players and web sites that will sell gold in exchange for actual money.

The Super Nintendo System (SNES) is a 16-bit video game console. It was released between 1990 and 1993 by Nintendo. At the time it was released, the system introduced advanced graphics and sound capabilities. It quickly became the best selling console and had many groundbreaking games. The system is still popular today among fans and collectors. Many feel that playing these games is more about fun and less about technology.

When the Super Nintendo System first came out, the Sega Genesis System was also very popular but Sega advertised their games as adult oriented which was a huge mistake; Nintendo advertised their games concentrating on game design and concept which was a huge factor in their success. The Super Nintendo System had an extremely large array of games and kids and families alike would spend hours playing these games.

One of the most beloved games of all time is Super Mario World. This game features characters named Mario and Luigi as they travel different lands on a quest to rescue Princess Toadstool who has been kidnapped. Levels are accessed through a world map and there are nine worlds, each with several levels. A player will move through each level until they reach the levels exit and they will then unlock a path that leads them to the next level. The game grows intense as Mario runs, jumps, swims, collects coins, defeats enemies and crosses many other hazards. Mario is assisted by using something called power ups – he can become larger, he can fly and he can become invincible to name a few of his powers. This game can become very intricate with its secret levels, traps and mazes. The game actually has 96 exits for a player to find, but you only need to find 39 of them to beat the game. The game also introduces a companion for Mario, a dinosaur name Yoshi. Yoshi can eat most of the enemies and Mario can ride on him. This game has endured into the new millennium with its third re-release in 2007 for the Wii’s Virtual Console.

You will still be able to play this incredible game if you own or purchase the original Super Nintendo System. There are literally hundreds of great games that were produced for this system and almost each one of them was groundbreaking with many going on to become legendary games. Some of the most well known games are Donkey Kong, Chrono Trigger, The Legend of Zelda, Mega Man, Final Fantasy and Street Fighter.

Many games that are played on the Super Nintendo System have become collectible items and are considered rare and expensive to purchase. For example Donkey Kong Country Competition will sell for approximately four hundred dollars. In terms of fun you really cannot go wrong with this groundbreaking system and its many games. You, your friends and your family can still enjoy many hours of great entertainment.
