Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said on Tuesday that Pakistan’s economy was off life-support and now on a path toward sustained growth.

Speaking during the budget debate in the National Assembly today, he said Pakistan was effectively insolvent when the current government presented its first budget, but had now regained economic solvency.

The minister said economic indicators showed improvement and expressed confidence that Pakistan could achieve annual growth of 6 to 7 percent within the next one to two years.

Addressing the security situation in Balochistan, he said terrorism and instability were the result of decades of policy failures and should be treated as a collective national issue rather than a partisan one.

On Afghanistan, the defense minister said Pakistan had repeatedly engaged with the Afghan leadership through direct talks in Kabul as well as meetings in Türkiye and Qatar. He stated that Afghan authorities had verbally agreed to Pakistan’s concerns regarding militant activity but had declined to provide written commitments.

The defence minister said terrorism originating from Afghan territory remained a major challenge for both Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He revealed that Pakistan had even considered providing financial assistance for relocating militants away from the border but sought guarantees they would not return.

He also criticized past policies that aligned Pakistan with foreign wars, saying the country paid a heavy price by becoming a frontline state while inheriting long-term security challenges.

Discussing regional diplomacy, Asif credited Pakistan’s political and military leadership for helping facilitate the peace deal between the United States and Iran.

He added that improving relations with Iran and the easing of restrictions on Iranian energy exports could create significant economic opportunities for Pakistan, particularly for Balochistan.

Google Chrome is removing the last workarounds that allowed some older ad blockers to keep running after the browser’s move to Manifest V3.

The change marks another major step in Chrome’s long-running shift away from Manifest V2, the older extension system used by popular ad blockers such as uBlock Origin.

What Is Changing

Google has already moved Chrome extensions to Manifest V3, a newer extension framework focused on privacy, security, and tighter permissions.

However, some users continued using older Manifest V2-based extensions through hidden flags and technical workarounds.

A new Chromium commit removes support for the kExtensionManifestV2Disabled flag. The code was described as dead code because Chrome no longer supports Manifest V2 extensions.

This flag had effectively acted as one of the final loopholes for keeping older Manifest V2 extensions alive.

Impact On Ad Blockers

The change mainly affects older Manifest V2-based ad blockers. uBlock Origin is one of the most well-known examples because its full version was built around Manifest V2.

Chrome users who want to keep using ad blockers will need to rely on Manifest V3-compatible alternatives, such as uBlock Origin Lite or other updated extensions.

The move does not mean every ad blocker will stop working in Chrome. It means older Manifest V2 ad blockers and related workarounds are being removed.

Chrome 150 And 151

Chrome 150, expected later this month, will remove the main workaround linked to ExtensionManifestV2Disabled.

Chrome 151, expected in July, is set to remove other remaining Manifest V2-related flags, including ExtensionManifestV2Unsupported, ExtensionManifestV2Availability, and AllowLegacyMV2Extensions.

After these changes, Chrome will no longer keep the remaining technical paths that allowed users to continue running Manifest V2 extensions.

Google’s Reason

A Google engineer said Manifest V2 extensions are no longer allowed in any supported version of Chrome.

The company is removing the remaining functionality because of technical debt, complexity, and security risks.

Google also said it has found bugs specific to Manifest V2 recently, making continued support harder to maintain.

Other Browsers

The change could also affect other Chromium-based browsers. However, Google’s comment notes that other browsers can continue supporting Manifest V2 extensions if they choose.

Microsoft Edge and Opera may follow Chrome’s direction, but support will depend on how each browser handles Manifest V2 going forward.

End Of The Road

Chrome’s Manifest V3 transition has been criticized for weakening older ad blockers by changing how extensions can block content.

Google says the new system improves security and privacy, while critics argue that it limits the effectiveness of advanced ad-blocking tools.

With Chrome 150 and 151, Google is now closing the remaining loopholes and making Manifest V3 the only path forward for Chrome extensions.

Huawei appears to be exploring a new foldable phone design after becoming the first brand to launch a tri-fold smartphone with the Mate XT Ultimate in 2024.

A new patent shared by xleaks7 and PostFast shows a vertical tri-fold design, suggesting that Huawei may be looking to bring the tri-fold concept to the flip-foldable category.

Vertical Tri-Fold Design

The patent shows a design that has not yet appeared in any commercially available phone.

While the images are only mockups of what could eventually become part of Huawei’s Pura lineup, the concept shows a device with two hinges, similar to the Mate XT Ultimate.

These hinges allow the phone to fold into a compact form when not in use.

Large Screen in Compact Form

The S-shaped foldable design opens up to reveal a large screen. When folded, the device can shrink to around one-third of its full size, making it more compact than a regular large-screen foldable.

The patent description also mentions a special shield designed to reduce signal loss when the phone is folded.

Launch Still Unclear

Huawei has not confirmed whether this patent will turn into a commercial product.

For now, the design only shows that the company is exploring a new foldable form factor beyond its existing tri-fold smartphone.

The FBI has issued an urgent warning about a fast-moving scam targeting Microsoft 365 users on Teams, Outlook and OneDrive.

The agency said a hacking platform called Kali365 is being used to capture OAuth device codes, allowing scammers to access Microsoft accounts without needing a password and without intercepting multifactor authentication codes.

How The Scam Works

According to the FBI, scammers send phishing emails that impersonate trusted cloud productivity or document-sharing services.

The email includes a device code and asks the target to visit a Microsoft verification page to enter it.

Once the user enters the code, they unknowingly authorize the attacker’s device to access their Microsoft 365 account.

The attacker can then capture OAuth access and refresh tokens, giving them access to Microsoft 365 services such as Outlook, Teams, and OneDrive.

Why Kali365 is Dangerous

The FBI described Kali365 as an emerging Phishing-as-a-Service platform.

The platform gives less-skilled attackers access to AI-generated phishing lures, automated campaign templates, real-time tracking dashboards, and OAuth token capture tools.

This makes advanced phishing attacks easier for scammers who may not have strong technical skills.

Kali365 was first detected by the FBI in April and is reportedly being sold to scammers through a subscription model for $250 per month.

MFA May Not Be Enough

The scam is concerning because it does not rely on stealing a user’s password.

Instead, it abuses device-code authentication and captures access tokens after the user follows the attacker’s instructions.

This can allow scammers to bypass multifactor authentication and gain access to Microsoft accounts without traditional login details.

FBI’s Advice

The FBI advised users not to open links or follow instructions involving access codes they did not request.

The agency also urged users to report phishing emails, suspicious logins, unauthorized devices, and active sessions added to their accounts to the Internet Crime Complaint Center.

Users should include available details such as email headers, message bodies, login times, IP addresses, and locations when filing a report.

Microsoft Response

A Microsoft spokesperson advised users to follow the FBI’s guidance.

The company said its Digital Crimes Unit has disrupted similar cybercrime tools designed to steal passwords and data, including RaccoonO365 and other do-it-yourself phishing scams.

Microsoft said it continues working to disrupt phishing-as-a-service and account takeover networks to protect users.

The Expo was inaugurated by Mr. Abrar Hussain, Director General, Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (Pak-EPA), alongside Telenor Pakistan’s leadership team. Mr. Hussain toured the exhibition floor, engaging with exhibitors and exploring the range of innovative solutions on display. He expressed his admiration for the breadth and practicality of the initiatives showcased, noting the significant role that private sector-led platforms can play in accelerating Pakistan’s sustainability agenda. He commended Telenor Pakistan for creating a platform that encourages people to rethink their everyday habits and adopt more responsible ways of living.

The Expo featured a rich array of forward-thinking innovations aimed at reducing environmental impact. Highlights included construction bricks made from recycled plastic, reverse vending machines that reward users for returning plastic bottles, a wide selection of eco-friendly products designed to minimize waste and conserve natural resources, and IoT-based solutions for real-time energy optimization and conservation. Interactive live plantation activities and urban gardening demonstrations added a hands-on dimension to the event, allowing attendees to directly engage with sustainable practices and gain take-home lessons they could apply in their own lives and communities.

Areej Khan, Chief People Officer, Telenor Pakistan said, “At Telenor Pakistan, we believe that sustainability is not just a corporate commitment, it is a shared responsibility that begins with each one of us. The Sustainability Expo 2026 is our way of bringing that belief to life; creating a space where innovation meets inspiration, and where every interaction plants the seed of positive change. We are proud to stand alongside our employees, partners, and the wider community in driving a future that is digitally connected and environmentally conscious.”

The Sustainability Expo 2026 reflects the depth of Telenor Pakistan’s long-standing environmental commitments. The company also participated in Pakistan’s first-ever low-carbon Energy Storage as a Service (ESaaS) project, deploying 25 MWh of battery infrastructure to eliminate over 21 million litres of diesel use and reduce approximately 1.1 million generator run hours annually. Guided by an Environmental Management System aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goal 13, and recognised internationally by SHRM for its sustainability impact, Telenor Pakistan continues to set new standards for responsible business in the telecommunications sector and beyond.

Claude users are reporting a massive reduction in Opus 4.8’s context window just a few weeks after its launch.

One user wrote on X, “So Claude Opus 4.8 is back to 256k context? Anthropic, what’s happening? I’m confused.”

The post has added to questions around whether Anthropic has changed the visible context limit for Opus 4.8, or whether the issue is linked to account access, Claude Code settings, or platform-specific limits.

It is worth noting that the model launched with a 1 million context window, which has now reportedly dropped to 256,000.

So Claude Opus 4.8 is back to 256k context?
Anthropic what’s happening?

I’m confused.

— Kaito (@KaiXCreator) June 15, 2026

Another user posted a screenshot showing proof of Anthropic dropping the context window for Opus 4.8. There hasn’t been any announcement from Anthropic so far.

Anthropic Lists 1M Context

Anthropic’s official documentation says Claude Opus 4.8 supports a 1 million-token context window by default on the Claude API, Amazon Bedrock, and Vertex AI.

The same documentation lists Microsoft Foundry separately with a 200k context window.

Anthropic’s Claude Opus product page also describes Opus 4.8 as a hybrid reasoning model built for serious coding and AI agents, featuring a 1M context window.

Claude Code Access May Vary

The confusion appears to be linked more closely to Claude Code and account-level access rather than a confirmed removal of the 1M context window.

Anthropic’s Claude Code documentation says Opus 4.8 supports an extended 1M context, but availability depends on the user’s plan.

On Max, Team, and Enterprise plans, Opus is automatically upgraded to 1M context. On Pro, 1M context requires usage credits.

Anthropic also says users can select the 1M version through Claude Code by using the
[1m]
suffix, such as
/model claude-opus-4-8[1m]
.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a comprehensive three-tier security plan for Muharram-ul-Haram, introducing strict measures including a ban on drones and illegal use of loudspeakers across the province.

Chairing a high-level meeting on Muharram security and administrative arrangements, the chief minister said that Punjab is deploying advanced technology to ensure peace and safety during religious gatherings and processions.

For the first time, QR-coded panic buttons have been installed at 4,700 imambargahs across the province to enable instant emergency response from security and administrative agencies.

She urged organizers of religious gatherings to download and use the QR code system, stating that scanning it will immediately alert relevant authorities to swift action.

Officials briefed the meeting that a total of 47,280 majalis and processions will be held across Punjab, including 37,868 majalis and 9,412 processions.

More than 125,000 police personnel have been deployed to ensure security, while 61 Pakistan Army companies and 76 Rangers companies have also been called in to assist.

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority will conduct live digital monitoring of procession routes, while strict zero tolerance has been announced for violations of designated routes and timings.

Authorities confirmed that 1,220 coordination meetings have already been completed under local peace committees.

CM Maryam Nawaz directed that all commissioners, RPOs, and DPOs remain present in the field instead of offices, emphasizing that security arrangements must be foolproof and better than in previous years.

She ordered the immediate removal of hanging electrical wires and construction material from procession routes and instructed that manholes be properly covered.

She further directed that Rescue 1122, Clean Punjab initiatives, and civil defense staff remain active in the field, while provincial ministers must also remain present on duty.

Religious scholars were urged to promote unity and harmony during sermons and gatherings.

The chief minister also instructed continuous intelligence sharing, ongoing combing operations, and effective use of technology to ensure secure Muharram arrangements across the province.

International oil prices crashed near $75 per barrel for the first time in almost 4 months.

Before today’s level, oil was last seen at $75 in March 2026, just a few weeks after the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

At the time of press, Western Texas Intermediate (WTI) stood at $77 (down 4%) while Brent hovered at $80 per barrel (-3.3%).

Meanwhile, crude oil extracted from reserves operated by the United Arab Emirates stood at $72 per barrel, down nearly 6 percent in the past 6 hours.

Besides geopolitical developments, the resumption of vessel movement across the Strait of Hormuz has significantly favored the ongoing fall of oil prices.

Oil first started falling to new lows after news broke about Pakistan’s successful mediation of a 60-day truuce between Iran and USA following almost 5 months of war.

Sources informed ProPakistani that Iran and US will likely sign the ceasefire agreement anytime this week. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to be part of the ceremony.
