Michael Cavallaro's acclaimed graphic novel nominated for YALSA Great Graphic Novels for Teen book list!
11 November 2009 (Berkeley, CA) - Image Comics and Shadowline, LLC have announced their critically acclaimed graphic novel, PARADE (WITH FIREWORKS) by Michael Cavallaro, has been nominated for the prestigious Young Adult Library Services Association Great Graphic Novels for Teens Booklist!

"PARADE (WITH FIREWORKS) has received an immense amount of acclaim since its release, but the YALSA Great Graphic Novels for Teens nomination is one we're most proud of," Shadowline LLC Publisher Jim Valentino said. "We've long felt Michael's very personal tale is the perfect fit in any library and are honored to even be nominated for the booklist. We certainly look forward to any and all feedback we receive from the valued members of the YALSA committee."

PARADE (WITH FIREWORKS) opens in 1923, as Italy is pulling itself from the wreckage of the first World War while unknowingly plummeting toward another. The nation seemed to be holding its breath, and the slightest perceived transgression could result in violence. On the evening of the Feast of the Epiphany, it did, causing one man to choose between political standing and his very own family. The YALSA Great Graphic Novels for Teens nomination is in of itself a prestigious accolade for a very deserving title.

PARADE (WITH FIREWORKS) TP (DIAMOND: SEP082265 - ISBN: 1582409951), a 72-page full color deluxe tradepaperback for $12.99, is in stores now.

Truly a global event, 2012: Final Prayer features graphic tales from indie comic creators from the US, UK, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Finland, Ireland, Italy, Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Scotland and South Africa. “Several of the writer and artist creators will be familiar to indie comic fans – but a few are talented newcomers who, quite possibly, could become the Next Generation of indie sci fi and horror superstars,” says R.M. Heske who published the book and contributed three graphic tales. “In essence, this book is their ‘rookie card’ – one you will want to hang on to!”

The 154-page black & white trade paperback, with cover art by Preston Asevedo, includes 15 graphic tales about “what happens on 12/21/12 at 11:11 GST?” Also featured is a “Post-Apocalypse” section with a wonderfully written and drawn tale (Harkinton by Duncan Eagleson) and three short stories by emerging horror writers. Jim Harold, host of the popular “Paranormal Podcast” pens the Foreward, and authors Marshall Masters (Planet X Forecast and 2012 Survival Guide) and Marie D. Jones (2013: The End of Days or a New Beginning?) contribute brief topical essays.

Here are some of the early reviews:

"A dandy concept for graphic fiction that remains true to James Warren's independent spirit, with illustrated stories a bit edgier than the mainstream. I'd much rather re-read this book a third time than watch Roland Emmerich's movie even once."
─Rod Lott, Bookgasm.com

"Say your final prayers because 2012 is coming! This book is chock full of terror, chills and thrills that will leave you breathlessly asking: what will happen on December 21, 2012? A roller-coaster ride of an anthology!"
─Marie D. Jones, Best-selling Author

“This is a great collection of original stories by some amazing writers and artists … You know I say give me some monsters and I will tell you how funny they are, but if you make me think about the world ending, now you got me scared!”
─Decapitated Dan, From the Tomb magazine

Your browser may not support display of this image. The book also features a UK variant cover by British artist Paul Cartwright who has drawn covers for Wall of Angels and Insomnia Publications’ wickedly successful OGN Cancertown. Jay Katz, owner of InvestComics.com, sees this anthology as a sleeper investment due to the combination of the hot-button subject matter, the experienced and newbie comic creators from around the world, and the screaming Variant cover by Cartwright.
New Manga Release Blends Bold Art And A Clever Story Of A Young Boy Who Tries To Balance His Own Lonely World With a Fantastic Supernatural Realm Only He Can See

San Francisco, CA, November 10, 2009 – VIZ Media, LLC (VIZ Media), one of the entertainment industry's most innovative and comprehensive publishing, animation and licensing companies, has announced the upcoming release of Taiyo Matsumoto’s celebrated manga GOGO MONSTER on November 17th. GOGO MONSTER will be published by the company’s VIZ Signature imprint, rated ‘T’ for Teens, and will carry an MSRP of $27.99 U.S. / $36.00 CAN.

Third grader Yuki Tachibana lives in two worlds. In one world, he is a loner ridiculed by his classmates and reprimanded by his teachers for telling stories of supernatural beings that only he can see. In the other world, the supernatural beings vie for power with malevolent spirits who bring chaos into the school, the students' lives, and even nature itself.

“Taiyo Matsumoto’s clever stories and striking art have placed him among the best of a new generation of influential manga artists and we are privileged to present GOGO MONSTER to U.S. audiences,” says Gonzalo Ferreyra, Vice President Sales & Marketing, VIZ Media. “This story continues to show Matsumoto’s fascination with youth as he seamlessly blends themes of alienation with the paranormal. For anyone with an overactive imagination or has even just daydreamed during class, GOGO MONSTER offers an emotional tale that shows how what we see and imagine, whether real or imaginary, shapes our personality in profound ways.”

Taiyo Matsumoto made his manga debut in the Japanese magazine Comic Afternoon with the short story STRAIGHT. He went on to travel throughout France and became heavily influenced by the French comics he studied there including those created by pioneering European artists like Moebius and Enki Bilal. Matsumoto has become internationally acclaimed for stories that capture the essence of disaffected youth and adolescent alienation. His other notable works include BLUE SPRING, NO. 5 and TEKKONKINKREET: BLACK & WHITE, which are all published in North America by VIZ Media. TEKKONKINKREET won a prestigious Will Eisner Award in 2008 and was also adapted for an animated feature film. Another Matsumoto manga story, PING PONG, was turned into an award-winning live action film that is available from VIZ Pictures.
DTOX, A POST ARMAGHEDDON HUNTER OF MUTANTS, GETS AN 8-PAGE STORY PRINTED IN THE NOV. 2009 ISSUE OF HEAVY METAL

Attachment 6118 Attachment 6117

Asylum Press announced today that an eight page story featuring the character DTOX will be featured in the November 2009 issue of Heavy Metal magazine. DTOX is written by Frank Forte (Warlash, Undead Evil) and illustrated by Nenad Gucunja (Satan's 3-Ring Circus of Hell, Girls and Corpses).

DTOX takes place in a post-Armageddon future. The lone biohazard warrior fights to cleanse the earth of a rising toxic mutant population. Killvixen, a knife-wielding femme fatale, soon joins him. Together, armed with the mobile arsenal code-named DTANK, they travel the ravaged mid-west in search of rogue monstrosities and fuel. Their destination is to locate the evil bio-scientist Scourge and destroy him and his mutant factory.

“This episode printed in Heavy Metal is actually episode 2 in the DTOX story. It works alone as a twisted sci-fi tale, but is part of a larger “Scourge” storyline, explains creator Frank Forte, “In this tale DTOX and Killvixen come upon a recent battlefield between the military and mutants. With corpses littering the area they stumble upon one lone survivor, a woman who pleads for her life. All is not what it seems as DTOX drops his guard and the woman turns into a giant slug-like mutant who wants to feast.”

"The character DTOX is inspired by the Heavy Metal Magazine and EPIC Illustrated I used to read in the 1980's. Characters like Ranxerox and Den showed how far comics could really go. Pepe Moreno, Guido Crepax and Caza just blew me away. I grew tired of costumed superheroes after a while and wanted something more. I found it in the pages of Heavy Metal, " explains Frank Forte. " Now I'm giving back."

"DTOX was a great addition to the November issue of Heavy Metal and we look forward to printing the next episode in the coming issues, " says Howard Jurofsky, VP Heavy Metal.

"Working on DTOX was fantastic, " says Nenad Gucunja, " I was able go off on the script and expand the scenes. Then Frank would go back and rewrite it. What came out was something fun and demented."

TODD MCFARLANE AND ROBERT KIRKMAN'S HAUNT SCARES UP MULTIPLE SELL OUTS!

McFarlane and Kirkman's HAUNT faces multiple distribution-level sell outs instantly after release!

10 November 2009 (Berkeley, CA) - HAUNT, the sales record-breaking new superhero series conceived by Todd McFarlane and Robert Kirkman, faces yet another sell out with both its first and second issues completely sold through on a distribution-level.

"Getting this reception a second time around has us all very excited," Kirkman said. "HAUNT is having a tremendous launch at a period in time when the economy doesn't really lend itself to people taking a chance on something new. Not only did the first issue set a recent sales record for Image, but as of last week the reprint and second issue are both gone despite very significant overprints. Todd and I are very appreciative of the fans and retailers supporting HAUNT. We hope to reward them back with years of stories to come."

HAUNT centers on a pair of brothers, Kurt and Daniel Kilgore, who act more like adversaries than family. Kurt, a secret agent, and Daniel, a less than holy priest, bond in a way neither of them expects after Kurt's untimely death. A surprise fusing of Kurt's ghost with Daniel's body creates a chain reaction, turning the brothers into the character, Haunt. While both distribution-level sell out issues will return with all-new printings in December, earlier printings may be available in small quantities at your local comic book store.

HAUNT #1 3rd Printing and HAUNT #2 2nd Printing, both 32-page full color comic books for $2.99, will be in-stores alongside HAUNT #3 (OCT090361) on December 2nd, 2009.

The First In A Trilogy Based On Popular Manga Series By Naoki Urasawa
San Francisco, CA- November 9, 2009 – VIZ Pictures, an affiliate of VIZ Media, LLC that focuses on Japanese live-action film distribution, will release the science fiction feature 20th CENTURY BOYS 1: BEGINNING OF THE END on DVD on December 15th in the United States through its distributor, VIZ Media. 20th CENTURY BOYS will carry an MSRP of $24.92 US / $35.99 CAN.
The 20th CENTURY BOYS saga was directed by Yukihiko Tsutsumi (who also directed the live-action film, HAPPILY EVER AFTER which is also available from VIZ Pictures) and is based on a popular manga series by Naoki Urasawa. It all begins in 1969 when a young boy named Kenji and his friends write "The Book of Prophecy" in which they write about a future where they fight against an evil organization trying to takeover the world and bring about doomsday. Years later in 1997, a mysterious cult being lead by a man only known as "Friend" emerges and begins to gain strong influence over society. A series of catastrophic events begin to occur mirroring the prophecies made up by the young Kenji and the greatest fear is the climax of "The Book" becoming a reality; December 31st, 2000, a terrifying giant virus-spreading robot will attack the entire city of Tokyo leading to the end of mankind. The only people who know about "The Book" are Kenji and his childhood friends. Who is "Friend"? Will Kenji and his friends be able to save mankind and live to see the 21st Century?

“20th CENTURY BOYS mesmerized audiences at its U.S. theatrical premiere in San Francisco this past summer and we’re very proud to announce its North American debut on DVD,” says Seiji Horibuchi, President and CEO of VIZ Pictures. “Naoki Urasawa’s multi-layered story of childhood mystical prophecy, government conspiracies and alien invasion is given a lavish production treatment and the film’s ending is a real cliffhanger that’s also very different from the original manga series. We look forward to introducing audiences to this exciting 3-part science fiction saga!”

VIZ Pictures has scheduled theatrical screenings of 20th Century Boys 1 in December at VIZ Cinema, the nation’s first theatre venue devoted exclusively to Japanese film operated by VIZ Pictures, Inc. On December 10th, starting at 7:30pm, VIZ Pictures has a special event to celebrate the DVD release of the first chapter of the trilogy. Tickets are $25.00, which includes a pass to the film screening, the brand new DVD, a poster, and more! VIZ Cinema is located inside NEW PEOPLE, a newly opened entertainment destination in the heart of San Francisco’s Japantown offering the latest examples of Japanese popular culture. Tickets are available at www.vizcinema.com or can be purchased at the theatre box-office. Titan Publishing is proud to present inventors extraordinaire and Oscar® winners, Wallace & Gromit, as you’ve never seen them before – in comics on your iPhone!

The first batch of comics includes strips written by Dan Abnett (Legion, Nova, The Authority) and Simon Furman (Transformers, Terminator 2 comic), with more to be released in the following weeks!

As the iconic duo reach their milestone 20th anniversary, it’s only fitting that the characters responsible for the BunVac 6000 and Techno Trousers should become pioneers of an exciting new technology!

Wallace & Gromit comics are available from Apple’s App store NOW! Initially there are four comic stories to download including: ‘The W-Files’, ‘Parts & Labour’, ‘Big in Japan’ and ‘Where there’s Muck there’s Brass’ all for just £0.59 ($0.99) each!

Each comic is a complete Wallace & Gromit adventure and is packed with bonus features on the inveterate inventor and his faithful canine companion.

Wallace & Gromit digital comic editor Ned Hartley commented:
“It’s really exciting to see Wallace and Gromit at the forefront of such a cracking new technology. Although I secretly suspect that Wallace would be more comfortable with the type of apple that comes with cheese.”

Title: Rowena- It Takes A Giantess To Raze A Village

Artists: Rock Baker, Jeff Austin, Luis Alonzo, Mark and Stephanie Heike
Format: Standard comic book size, perfect-bound trade paperback, 92 pages; black & white with color covers.
Intended Audience: All- ages fans of light-hearted fantasy with a glamorous, "good girl art" pin-up style focus.
Retail Price: $29.95

Ship Date: March 25, 2010
UPC Code: 64924188547

Synopsis: Something different-part comedy, part romance, part fantasy adventure, ALL "good girl art" extravaganza!! The saga of ROWENA, a beautiful, misunderstood giantess in a Medieval neverworld! She battles the pompous knight Sir Humphrey, and loses her heart to the normal-sized Cedric. Compiles the entire FEMFORCE #138-150 serial PLUS one new chapter!!
Special Notes: Author-creator Eric Lindberg initially produced a series of ROWENA text stories online that created a substantial following. Brought to life visually through the efforts of the whimsically-expressive, yet glamorous artwork of Rock Baker, the comic- book version of ROWENA became an increasingly- popular serial running within the pages of FEMFORCE over the past two years, despite the fact that it's tone and approach is VERY different from the rest of the book. More a lighthearted story of character interplay in a vintage folk-tale type of setting. Despite her towering size, the beautiful ROWENA is a gentle, peace-loving creature, unlike the rest of her human-stomping "earthborn" brethren. Simply trying to go her own way at peace with her world, she must defend herself from the dragon-slaying knight Sir Humphrey (whose respect she begrudgingly earns) and eventually falls in love with Humphrey's normal-sized kitchen assistant, Cedric. Through the course of the story, she becomes the oversized defender of the tiny village of Appleton, convinces MOST of her economy-sized family to leave the "tiny humans" alone for awhile, and marries Cedric!! This graphic novel compiles the first 13 episodes of the serial that appeared in the Gargantarama- The Comic Book portion of FEMFORCE over the last two years, PLUS one all-new, never-before- seen story/episode in the saga created especially for this book, plus pin-ups and unused covers, also never previously seen.

Rumiko Takahashi’s Award Winning Manga Series

To Be Published In An Omnibus Edition

San Francisco, CA, November 6, 2009 – VIZ Media, LLC (VIZ Media), one of the entertainment industry's most innovative and comprehensive publishing, animation and licensing companies, continues the momentum behind its hit INUYASHA brand with the announcement of the release of Rumiko Takahashi’s original manga series in new VIZBIG omnibus editions. Published by the company’s SHONEN SUNDAY imprint, INUYASHA VIZBIG Volume 1 debuts November 10th, is rated ‘T+’ for Older Teens, and carries an MSRP of $17.99 U.S. / $24.00 CAN.

Each omnibus edition features three volumes of the original graphic novel series presented in a larger 5-3/4 x 8-5/8 size (larger than the standard 5 x 7-1/2 manga). The new editions serve as comprehensive introductions for new readers to some best-known titles, and a great way for seasoned fans to revisit favorite manga series from a new perspective. The VIZBIG INUYASHA series is also presented in a right-to-left reading format, just like the original manga counterpart.

After falling into an old well and into ancient Japan, Kagome discovers that her destiny is linked to the dog-like half demon called Inuyasha! As Kagome learns more about her connection to the past and to Inuyasha, she comes into conflict with the terrible demons that are drawn to the Shikon Jewel, including Inuyasha's own half brother, Sesshomaru. Finding the shards of the Shikon Jewel is going to require powerful magic, strange allies, and a strong heart. Kagome's got plenty of heart, but she's going to need Inuyasha's help for the rest of it, and he may not be so willing to lend a hand!

“INUYASHA brought creator Rumiko Takahashi renowned fame throughout the world and the series has been enjoyed by millions of readers in Japan and North America,” says Elizabeth Kawasaki, Senior Editorial Director, VIZ Media. “Our new VIZBIG release is a comprehensive way for new and old fans alike to catch up on the adventures of Inuyasha and Kagome in a whole new way and also makes a wonderful gift for that extra special fan this holiday season.”

INUYASHA brought creator Rumiko Takahashi tremendous international acclaim and won the prestigious Shogakukan Manga Award in 2002. The story was also adapted into a long running animated series (distributed domestically by VIZ Media). Episodes from the action-packed series conclusion – INUYASHA THE FINAL ACT – currently stream on ShonenSunday.com/anime and Hulu.com mere hours after they air in Japan. For more information on the INUYASHA animated series please visit www.ShonenSunday.com.

Many of Rumiko Takahashi’s titles have been adapted into other media such as anime, live-action TV series, and film. Takahashi’s manga, as well as the other formats of her work, has continued to delight generations of fans around the world. Distinguished by her wonderfully endearing characters, Takahashi’s work adeptly incorporates a wide variety of elements such as comedy, romance, fantasy, and martial arts.
