We met back up with Shelley and Bill a few weeks after their wedding for their Day After Session. It was great to see them again but it also a little sad because it means we are coming to the end of our journey with them. We started their session at the same place we began on their wedding day, the Hotel Monaco. Here are just a few of our favorites from the session!

Estelle and Akin spend many evenings on U Street and so that is exactly where we met for their engagement session. We wandered the streets, made stops in some alleys, and ended at the newly refurbished Howard Theater. We are very excited to see them very soon for their wedding!

When we initially met with Karen and Phillip about their wedding, Phillip told us how he proposed at National Harbor. The evening began with dinner in Old Town, he gave her a gift basket with several goodies in it. One item in the gift basket was a fancy new watch. After receiving the watch, Karen’s hopes for a ring diminished because she knew she wasn’t going to get two boxes of bling in one night. So, she smiled, loved the gift and they continued their romantic dinner. After dinner they took a moonlit boat ride to National Harbor. They walked around for a while and ended up in the Gaylord atrium. Karen was totally satisfied with her date night and she thought they were heading home soon.

Suddenly a man that was on his cell phone started singing and walking toward them! The guy was clearly serenading them and he was accompanied by musicians! By the time Karen realized what was going on, Phil was already on one knee to proposing. We have heard many proposal stories over the years but Phillip’s telling of theirs was one of the best we have heard in a while.

Naturally when it came time to pick a location for the engagement session, National Harbor was the choice. Can’t wait for the wedding!

Jennifer and Joe moved back to the Canton neighborhood of Baltimore recently and I can see why. There are great restaurants, bars, and it is really close to the water. Since they live there, Canton was the natural choice for their engagement session. We had a great hanging out with them in this really cool neighborhood and we are super excited for their wedding this Fall.

Atia and Conor risk their lives every day as they dedicate their time bringing us world news. Right now they are working and living in Afganistan. Occasionally they are given time off to go home. Trips to the US are not only for them to connect with family and friends but also to work on wedding tasks before they leave town. This trip home, we were able to squeeze in their engagement session. Naturally they decided to have their session on and around the US Capitol Building. The weather was warm and it was lovely outside. We had a great time walking the US Capitol grounds and getting to know them.

Deborah always dreamed of having her engagement pictures taken with the Cherry Blossoms. The blossoms though don’t always bloom when you want them to. Deborah and Jason live in Houston and their trip back to DC didn’t coincide with the height of the blooming. We missed the trees on the Tidal Basin by a few weeks but Deborah was able to find a different variety of Cherry Blossoms that flower later. We started the day in East Potomac Park at sunrise and then headed underground to the Metro. We had a great morning and can’t wait for their wedding.

Katie and Andy requested that we do some of their session in their kitchen. They remodeled the kitchen themselves and after this intense project they spend more time cooking and just being in the kitchen. This lead to many dance parties in the kitchen too! What a fun pastime to have. Dancing and cooking before every meal sounds like fun. We started out chopping some veggies before heading out to Rock Creek Park to get some pictures with their hot ride. We had a great time and can’t wait for the wedding.

Shelley and Bill picked out a fabulously modern and unique venue for their DC wedding. The ceremony and reception were held at Sidney Harman Hall, a Shakespeare Theatre. Alex Pare of Cherry Blossom Events transformed the three story space into a cohesive, rich in color, and dazzling event. Earlier in the day, Shelley got ready at the Hotel Monaco about a block from Harman Hall. We had the best time with this adorable and charismatic couple. Congratulations you two!
