Quick Views in Online File Folder

If you’re uploading a video to Online File Folder®, you can get added functionality when you use any of several common file formats. Keep in mind, though, you can upload and share files of any type using Online File Folder.

With certain file types, Online File Folder displays Quick Views of video files. These let you view videos from Online File Folder simply by clicking the thumbnail icons. Quick Views also display for public files, letting anyone with the Public Links view the videos.

Faster, Easier Scheduling with Workspace Calendar

The latest round of updates to Workspace Calendar focused on the Attendees & Resources tab.

Now, the application responds quicker, and it’s easier and more intuitive to schedule events. Here are some highlights from the release:

Load Times — Our developers did lots of work on the back end to make Calendar load faster. It means creating or updating events is now even faster.

Event Slider — As you schedule events, you can now slide the event times to open spaces in all your attendees’ schedules. It’s much faster than re-entering times, and then seeing if they work.

Conflicts Window — When you schedule events, any attendees or resources who have conflicts with the times display in one easy-to-find window.

Vulnerability Could Affect Hosting Customers

All customers running vBSEO™ on their hosting accounts are vulnerable to a PHP code injection exploit that was released on January 27, 2012. This vulnerability allows an attacker to inject and execute arbitrary code.

We have taken the appropriate steps to resolve this vulnerability, however you should install the patches released by vBSEO for additional protection.

Vulnerabilities Found in Support Incident Tracker

Support Incident Tracker© (SIT!) is a free, open-source, web-based application that tracks emails and technical support calls.

Affected Application: 3.64 and any previous versions.

Issue: Multiple vulnerabilities including SQL Injections and Cross-Site Scripting were discovered in the SiT! application. These vulnerabilities could let attackers execute unintended commands, access unauthorized data, hijack user sessions, or redirect users to malicious sites.

Resolution: An update for SiT! is available. For more information, visit the vendor’s website: http://sitracker.org/wiki/Download#3.65.

Public Links Updates for Online File Folder

We just updated Online File Folder® to let you more effectively share content using Public Links. Here’s the rundown:

Quick Find — In the Quick Find section of your Online File Folder home page, you can now click My Public Links to display all the files you’re sharing with Public Links. If you’re storing a lot of stuff in your account, it’s a great tool for quickly locating only those files available via Public Links.
Password Protection — You can now specify passwords for the public links you create. When a public link is password protected, visitors will be required to enter a password before they can access your files or folders. Password protecting public links is a good idea when you only want certain people to have access to your files.

In case you need a refresher, our customers use public links to share files and folders with other users by simply giving them a link. Once a Public Link is created, anyone with the link can access the folder or download the file.

When you share those public links with people you choose, they can access the files. And now password-protecting public links adds an additional layer of security to Online File folder, making it an even more effective cloud solution for file storage and sharing.

Stay Away from SEO Snake Oil

If you are a business owner, you have no doubt been contacted by a solicitor guaranteeing that they can "make your website appear on the first page of Google®". They're not lying, but they won't give you the results that you expect either.

They will usually get your website to show up on Google's first page by embedding some innocuous but unique phrase in your text, such as extenuating emancipation collective. I've checked, and as I'm writing this, the page that you are reading is the only place in the universe that contains the three words, "extenuating emancipation collective", used as a phrase. Search engines love unique content and that phrase fits the bill perfectly.

I full well expect this article to show up in the SERPs (Search Engine Results Page) in a day or two. Then i'll be able to brag that I "own" the phrase, extenuating emancipation collective. Whoopee. Don't break out the confetti just yet.

There is a problem. No human being, or robot for that matter, is going to search for me or my services by typing "extenuating emancipation collective" into a search box. It doesn't do me any good. It only serves to put money into the pockets of an unscrupulous SEO company and fill up the search engines with junk.

Unless my website indexes well for the keywords that real people actually use to look for my services, I'm just wasting my time and money.

So, before you take someone up on an offer to "put you on the first page of Google", make sure that the keywords are words that are meaningful to you and your customers.

Guarding Against LizaMoon Attacks

According to a Goole web search there are 4,500,000 web pages or URLs that reference code associated with the LizaMoon SQL injection attack. The attacks were first identified on March 29, 2011. Since then the number of affected web pages has skyrocketed.

Here's how it works. A hacker or hacking script injects code into an unsuspecting website. The injected code redirects website users to a bogus website that tries to convince users that their computers are full of viruses and other malicious software. The point of the charade is to get the user's credit card number.

We have seen reports that most, if not all, of the affected websites are running on Microsoft server software and using different versions of SQL Server. We have not been able to verify those claims and to assume that a website is safe simply because it is running MySQL, Oracle or another DBMS is very dangerous. In most cases, the malicious code is able to be injected because of poor programming practices or lax website security.

We are happy to report that none of Pro Epic's websites have been affected by the LizaMoon SQL injection attack. We will remain vigilant and report any new developments as they occur.
