New version 0.1.7 out now!

The latest release of Private Passwords is now out, and at the moment we are planning for this to be the last release before the public beta version.

Version 0.1.7 includes these changes:

Move to/Copy to folder
Password strength meter
Changed home page HTML to be more semantically correct for non-CSS browsers
Started adding more help files (we have made an a help file CMS to make it easy for us to maintain this now!)
Made the “No” button on delete pages really big, and the “Yes” button really small
Fixed bug in Google Chrome where menu items were wrapping round
Added “Cancel” links to pages to cancel editing

Change account e-mail address or deactivate accounts
More improvements to favicon fetching

Huzzah! Another New Version Live

We’ve been busy developing the latest set of updates to Private Passwords and we’re confident we’re fixing stuff that will improve the usability and general usefulness of the site. We want Private Passwords to be a useful tool that people will use, so your feedback is really important to us. One new feature we’re really excited about is the introduction of Private Passwords for Mobile Internet Devices (such as iPhones, Blackberries, Android phones). Please let us know if there’s something you think would make the site better or easier to use! Here’s some of the things we’ve changed in our new version 0.1.6:

All fields in a stored password are now encrypted except the name – previously only the password field was.
We’ve implemented an audit trail to keep track of when your passwords are viewed, changed, deleted etc. (you can’t view it yet, we’re working on that!)
We’ve introduced the mobile version designed for Android phones, iPhones, Blackberries and so on. Please let us know if you encounter any problems in your phone!
Duplicate password notification
Revealing passwords by default on the edit password page
“Favourite” passwords feature (see My Account page)
A load of other minor interface/UX changes

New release – 0.1.5

We have made another release today, the 0.1.5 (alpha) release is live and in use. The main new feature we’ve introduced is the new search box which you’ll find in the top right when logged in.

There are several other fixes and general improvements we have also made, and here’s an overview of all the changes:

Add “Cancel” link to Change Password page
Folder list is now ordered by name
Notes box is now in fixed-width font and new lines work properly
If you’re logged in, going to the home page will redirect you to your main passwords page
Fixed the issue where remembering your main login details in your browser caused the username/password fields on password add/edit form to be populated with your main login details
Vastly improved the favicon fetching (please report any issues you have with the favicon fetcher!)
Fixed the “Remember my login for a day” feature – it will now remember you for a day!
Added basic search functionality

As always, we’ve got loads of things to do still, but we’ll keep this blog up to date with new releases and so on. As always, please use the reporting feature if you find any issues or have any ideas!

Although only a few very minor changes have been made, including enforcing the use of https:// protocol, the addition of a feedback form and some other minor cosmetic changes, we have updated the alpha site to the latest 0.1.2 release. I can now reveal that the beta will be an invitation-based public beta. Each user will be allowed to invite a certain number of friends or family to the beta programme. If however you would like to take part in the development (alpha) testing, then please e-mail us on testing at privatepasswords dot co dot uk and we will consider.

Alpha Release Created

We’re rather excited here as the 0.1-alpha release has finally been created (8 weeks ahead of schedule, I hasten to add!). It’s currently being set up and should be available for the alpha testers soon.

The alpha phase is only available to a select few at the moment, but the beta won’t be too far away!

June Updates

Things have been going nice and smoothly recently, and the list of things to still do before beta is largely cosmetic, and its slowly dwindling away. Trac reports we’re 78% towards our beta release target which is great. The main big tasks are LDAP authentication (hopefully!) and the superuser section and then hopefully we can start properly testing out the alpha release!

Development Update for May

Just a quick update to say that we’re making great progress. Password, folder and group management are complete apart from some design work to be done, and user management is next. Finally the fine-grained permissions management will be worked on, at which point we’ll be really close to going into beta! As it currently states on the home page, we will be looking for a small set of beta testers, so when the time comes, we’ll put the word out!
