Facebook adds free calling feature for US iPhones

Users can now make calls to each other via the Facebook Messenger app anywhere they have a wi-fi or a cellular-data connection.

The feature could be a boon for heavy talkers as they would avoid carrier call charges.

Facebook said it was working on adding the feature to its Messenger app for Android and BlackBerry users.

Within the app, all a person needs to do is open a conversation with a partner, tap the "i" icon in the upper right hand corner and select "Free Call".

The calls, however, can only be made to another user who has Messenger installed on their iPhone. Users can neither call a Facebook friend who is logged in through the website or call a landline.

The latest mobile-to-mobile development was independent of the free video-calling software Skype, which was already integrated into Facebook's website, a spokesman said. The Messenger app is limited to voice calling.

The official said Facebook was expected to roll out the feature in its Messenger app for other operating systems and expand it overseas.

On Tuesday, Facebook unveiled a smart search engine - called Graph Search - that allows users to make "natural" searches of content shared by their friends. Story Source click here

HTC Titan Windows Phone 7.5 Deals

HTC have gone to town with their latest high end smartphone creating a device that shows exactly what Microsoft's highly rated but less than popular OS is capable of. The HTC Titan runs the latest release of Windows Phone 7.5, aka Mango.

The handset itself is huge with 4.7" 800x480 pixel resolution display, larger tan its predecessor, the HTC HD7 which had a 4.3" screen. The phone is powered by a 1.5GHz processor (no support yet for Dual Core) but this will do nicely. Plus there is 16GB of built in storage which should be plenty for music, videos and photos - taken on the 8 mega-pixel camera of course.

With Android and iOS dominating the smartphone market the device hasn't quite been embraced by all retailers but we have still managed to gather around 1000 deals to compare on the major networks. Plus you will have a device that stands out from the crowd.

HP Announce 3 new Palm webOS Devices

I have always liked Palm, they have been involved in hand held mobile devices since 1996 and have possibly the sexiest platform going, webOS and the pebble like design of their latest phones are slick and stand out from the crowd.

Heaven knows why Palm devices haven't caught on but now they are owned by HP, the roll-out of devices has increased and hopefully with more marketing muscle and distribution the company can make new ground - but then again for me, a device loses a lot of its allure once they are the in thing and overly popular.

In an attempt to gain ground on Apple and Google HP have launched three new devices to cater for all segments of the smartphone market including a tablet device. These include the compact HP Veer, the follow up to the Palm Pre 2 - the HP Pre 3 and the aforementioned HP TouchPad.

If you have two hours you can watch the HP webOS Think Beyond Event - its a little slow with a bit too much corporate spokesman hoo-haa going on but if you fast forward through you can see some nice demos of the new hardware.

Nokia to Adopt Microsoft Windows Phone 7

Nokia announced today that it would join forces with Microsoft and start using the Windows Phone 7 platform on its smartphones.

Following an announcement earlier this week by the new CEO Stephen Elop that Nokia is "standing on a 'burning platform" and in the wake of the company losing market share to Apple and Google, the company has decided to take a bold step and team up with Microsoft.

The Windows Phone 7, although receiving some rave reviews is still in its infancy having only been around for a few months and represents a huge risk for Nokia. For Microsoft it is great news and will allow them to increase their market share rapidly on the back of the Worlds largest handset manufacturer.

The Apple iPad - it's been around for a while but we have only recently been able to get hold of any decent prices to start comparing. Now that a number of the main stream mobile stores and networks are offering it we thought we would get you the details.

Apart from the memory/storage configurations, the iPad comes in two main varieties - WiFi only or Wifi and 3G. The WiFi version lets you use the device next to a wireless hotspot such as in your home, work or public access point.

The 3G version however includes a sim card slot so you can connect to the internet using the mobile phone network - i.e. mobile broadband built in. So you can use your iPad just about anywhere in the UK.
