It’s Christmas and Holiday pictures time here at Portraits Today Studios. We’ve received a few new props to break out. And we have another background being painted this very evening. And we have another backdrop that is supposed arrive any day. So options we have. Of course, we have ton’s of digital backgrounds, if you like. (See the little boy pointing at Santa for an example of a digital backdrop.)

People like to ask how much notice we need to schedule an appointment. Well, right now a couple days is fine. Though if you have family coming in during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend you may wish to book that time sooner than later as those times are filling fast.

Saturdays can book up pretty quickly, of course. But there again, usually 3-4 days in advance is enough. We have two studios here with photographers and staff that like to have fun. We like to keep our place running smoothly so just know that you will not have a 3:00 appointment here and not get seen until 4:00. No. Not here at Portraits Today Studios. We may occasionally run 5 minutes late. Or even rarely 10-12 minutes late. But none of this overbooking thing to run an hour late. That’s our promise to you.

Our First Birthday Party!

One year ago today Portraits Today Studios opened. Yep. That’s right. On November 1, 2008 we opened our doors for the first time and put a banner out on Sante Fe. We had one couple come in that day, just on a lark. Their photo still hangs by our cash register.

Over our first year there have been times when I felt we would be an instant success. And other times when I wondered if we would be doomed for failure. Opening and operating a business causes you to be hopeful, doubtful and stressed. We’ve met some fantastic people, had our little challenges and depended greatly on the kindness of happy customers who told their family and friends about us. And for that we are grateful to each and every one of you.

Let me say “THANK YOU” to each and every customer we have had the honor to serve these last twelve months. We have a dream to be the best portrait studio in the entire Johnson County area when it comes to quality, affordability and fun. Whenever you have comments or suggestions we are open to hearing from you. After all, it’s you we serve.

Portraits Today Studios has quite a bit going on in the upcoming days and weeks here in the Olathe, Overland Park and Kansas City areas. So we thought we’d bring you a special post here on our website to keep you up to date.

October 31, 2009
11-3 Texas Roadhouse, Olathe, Kansas – Portraits Today Studios will be photographing kids in their costumes at the Texas Roadhouse. FREE 5×7s will be available to the little trick-or-treaters. Texas Roadhouse will be doing a promotion as well which I believe is kids in costume eat free with accompanying parental meal. (Check with them for the details.)

4-6 Chick-fil-A, Olathe, Kansas- Chick-fil-A will be giving kids in costume a free kids meal with any accompanying parental meal and Portraits Today Studios will be taking pictures of the kids in costume and giving away a FREE 5×7 for each family.

In each of the above cases a certificate good for one free 5×7 will be made available to all the kids we photograph. You can bring that certificate in any time we are open over the next 60 days to our studios and you’ll receive a free 5×7. No purchase necessary though extra copies will be made available to anyone that asks. We just want you to know where we are and to keep us in mind for this holiday’s portrait season. 2-5 “Tweak the Treat” – Prairie Life Fitness in Olathe is allowing TCOY Wellness space to host a “Tweak the Treat” event wherein you can bring in your extra candy from Halloween to send over to our troops who have a sweet tooth. Gift certificates from many local companies in and around Olathe will be there to say “thank you” for your support.

November 13
5-9 Family Portrait Night at Chick-fil-A - You might want to hurry on this one. With nearly no promotion I hear that there have been many reservations made, already. We’ll be taking photos of customers who are there to eat and have made a reservation to get their photo taken. Each family will receive a Free 5×7 that they can pick up from our portrait studios here in Olathe. And you know we’ll make more copies and holiday cards available at our reasonable prices either online or in our studios.

November 13-15
2009 Kansas City “SPLASHDOWN”- Up in Gladstone, MO we’ve been asked to come in and give some quality service for this swim meet’s sports photography. So if you have a little fish look for us up there. And say “hello” because we’d love to meet you in person.

November 26
Closed for Thanksgiving. If you are having family/friends in town why not book now for your family portrait? Last year Wednesday, Friday and Saturday of Thanksgiving week were very busy. So book early.

December 24-25
Closing at 3:30 on Christmas Eve. Closed Christmas Day. May Peace be with you.

Portraits of Children

Making a quality portrait of ten children can be trying. Though we have had a lot of fun with such large groups before. But this group. Wow. I was impressed. I’ve never photographed ten children that were so well behaved during the portrait sitting as these ten. They listened. They paid attention. They got the job done. Of course, then they went nuts with the legos out front.

We may post some more portraits of these children here in the future. In fact, I’m sure of it. But before I went home tonight I thought I would share this one with you. Enjoy.

Holiday Cards At Olathe Portraits Today Studios

Shown here is but one of the many, many holiday cards we offer at our Olathe Portraits Today Studios. (The family shown has had the names changed to protect their identities.) We have the same card templates that we had last year for the Holidays and we’ve added many more.

As a side note, we’ve also added several template for invitations and birth announcements as well.

These holiday cards, birth announcements and invitations come in handy size of 4″ x 8″ and are really sharp looking. We can add text to your favorite photo and, within reason, even do very small customizations on the invitations and birth announcements.

Our pricing for our holiday cards, birth announcements and invitations runs $25.00 for 20, or $110 for 100 cards. Ordered individually these beautiful, fun cards/announcements are priced at $1.50 each. Prices include any minor touch-ups and/or customizations as well as properly sized envelopes.

Most of you have grown used to being able to pick up your professional portraits within twenty minutes of placing your order here at Portraits Today Studios. The holiday cards take a little longer to print. Depending on the amount of business we have and the size of your order we may have to have you come back after an hour, maybe two, once you place your order. But either way, 99% of the time you can still pick up the same day.

And guess what!?! From today until November 30 any holiday cards, invitations and/or birth announcements that are ordered will be given a 15% discount if you ask. All you have to do is ask! This special will definitely end November 30. So hurry to book your holiday portraits today.

Family Photography For Olathe, Overland Park & Beyond

This Olathe family came in for their yearly family portrait just yesterday. They always like to get in during the month of October to help beat the Christmas rush for family pictures. They are a neat family. And the daughter is someone I coach in soccer. She’s quite the little defender. But I digress….

We like to have fun here at this little Olathe portrait studio. As evidence we present you the Goofy Family Portrait that we love to do during the holiday seasons. We usually just give you a free 8×10 of the Goofy Family Portrait. The kids love it. And honestly, I think a lot of the parents and grandparents do, as well. In fact, we’ve had many people come back in for extras!

Holiday Pictures Time At Portraits Today Studios In Olathe, Kansas

For the last week or so we have been taking quite a few holiday portraits here at Portraits Today Studios. Now the holiday in question is Halloween. Mommies all over Olathe, Grandview and Overland Park have been bringing their kids in for costume photos. Mostly the little people, as you might expect.

But don’t forget, on Halloween Portraits Today Studios will be taking October 31st Portraits at the Texas Roadhouse from noon till 2:00 and at Chick-fil-A from 4:00 till 6:00 pm. We will be giving away free 5×7’s to the little spooks and goblins while Texas Roadhouse will be giving away coupons for free appetizers and Chick-fil-A will be giving away free chicken sandwiches to the kids in costume. So mark your calendars. And yes, we will sell extra copies of the photos to anyone who wants some.

The other holidays coming up, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah and Christmas, are high demand times here at Portraits Today Studios. So book early. Especially if you will be having relatives in around the Thanksgiving holiday. That’s a crazy time for us and we already have quite a few bookings for that Friday and Saturday. Time slots will go fast.

Maternity Photos: Yes We Photography The Belly

I really didn’t know until this week that WalMart, Target and some other local photo studios wouldn’t do bare belly maternity photos. And quite frankly, I was shocked.

This couple from Overland Park wanted a nice maternity portrait before their lives changed forever. Kristin, our newest photographer, set up this photo and I think it is fantastic. Look at the intimacy between the two. Wow.
