Spending time behind the wheel were Timo Bernhard (Germany), Marc Lieb (Germany), Romain Dumas (France), as well as Marcel Tiemann (Monaco), who completed the last laps.

Clocking up 3,933km (2,443mi) the Manthey Racing squad improved on its own distance record from 2006 by a further 101km (62.8mi). Furthermore, Timo Bernhard and Marcel Tiemann are the first drivers to win the long distance classic four times in succession. All in all, Tiemann has climbed to the top of the podium five times, making him the most successful driver of the 24-hour race.

Just one lap behind was Audi’s new R8 LMS race car, but with seven 911 race cars in the top ten there’s no denying that Porsche was easily the most successful manufacturer.

Up against the Porsches were many strong competitors, including the aforementioned Audi R8 LMS, two prototypes of the upcoming Lexus LF-A supercar, six Aston Martins and a GT4 BMW M3.

Overall result for 2009 Nurburgring 24-hour race:
1. It appears the Porsche GT2 is no exception, with the tuners at Wimmer Rennsporttechnik Solingen finding another 150hp (111kW) inside the already brutal car with just a few additions.

Starting with a twin-turbo version of Porsche's 3.6L boxer engine, Wimmer adds advanced engine management, a custom-built sport exhaust with high-flow cats, a redeveloped cylinder head and 'sport' camshafts. That's all it takes to get output up to 680hp (507kW) at the crank, though it does require an upgraded clutch to send that power to the rear wheels.

Wimmer says this upgrade pack is enough to push 0-100km/h times down to 3.4 seconds, get it to 200km/h in 9.78 seconds and from a stop to 186mph (300km/h) in just 25.8 seconds. Top speed: a mind-melting 221mph (356km/h). To help the car match the engine's capability, sticky and max-speed-rated Dunlop Sport-Maxx GT tires in appropriately understeer-biased 235/30 (front) and 325/20 (rear) widths are wrapped around 20in alloy wheels.

Visually, the Wimmer GT2 also gets carbon fiber exterior mirrors and rear spoiler lip, though the entire exterior of the car can be made of carbon upon request. H&R suspension upgrades help handle the extra power.

Pricing for this all-out package starts at €29,800 ($40,400), or about 20% of the car's original purchase price here in the States.

Porsche news at Wimmer custom Porsche GT2 puts down 680hpauto newshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02770477355949529349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1841173365540175873.post-79812978150682258902009-05-13T08:45:00.000-07:002009-05-27T08:56:34.173-07:00Porsche starts Panamera production, offers free factory tours<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 195px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/Sh1hLDSko4I/AAAAAAAACUU/_0uHMBbLD-s/s400/Porsche+starts+Panamera+production,+offers+free+factory+tours.jpg" border="0" alt="Porsche starts Panamera production, offers free factory tours"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5340531575620936578" />
Porsche's new Panamera may have been revealed to the world in a glitzy event at the Shanghai Motor Show but production of the car has only formally started this week. To mark the occasion, Porsche has also announced that it will be offering buyers and enthusiasts alike the chance to see the Panamera without all of its makeup on - at a free, two-hour factory tour in Leipzig.

With the car officially launching in select European markets this September and in the U.S. this November, Porsche is keen to let future customers see the complete production process at its newly upgraded Leipzig plant in Germany.

In order to accommodate the new model, Porsche reports that the Leipzig plant had to undergo a 22,000 square meter expansion that took around two years to complete. During that period, no factory tours were allowed for around eight months, but now the company will begin tours again to give visitors a chance to get up close with the newest addition to the Porsche stable.

Additionally, visitors will be able to book tours where they can then drive certain Porsche vehicles on the nearby racetrack or off-road facility themselves, or be taken for hot laps by Porsche's own test drivers. For those that eventually decide to purchase and take ownership of their Porsche cars from the factory, the company also offers a free meal in its restaurant and a driving course for owners with a professional driving instructor.

Porsche news at Porsche starts Panamera production, offers free factory toursauto newshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02770477355949529349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1841173365540175873.post-73011595069945186722009-05-11T08:26:00.000-07:002009-05-27T08:34:51.863-07:00Porsche Cayenne goes wider and lower with new MAFF Design ‘Muron’ kit<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 215px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/Sh1cfEIiWRI/AAAAAAAACUM/PWrEwS7c6e8/s400/Porsche+Cayenne+goes+wider+and+lower+with+new+MAFF+Design+%E2%80%98Muron%E2%80%99+kit.jpg" border="0" alt="Porsche Cayenne goes wider and lower with new MAFF Design ‘Muron’ kit"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5340526421886523666" />
Porsche itself has recently gotten into the game of modifying its Cayenne SUV, so it's no wonder the vehicle has been a favorite of the tuner crowd for years. Though MAFF Design's latest creation may not have the exclusivity of the GTS Design Edition 3 revealed earlier in the year, it does have a flavor all its own.

Based on the 957 Porsche Cayenne, the MAFF Design Muron is primarily an appearance upgrade program. LED daytime running lights, an aggressive front, side and rear body kit with flared and vented fender wells to house the widened track. That's right, MAFF Design did do some mechanical work on the vehicle, spreading the width by 60mm up front and 80mm in the rear for an even more planted stance.

Combined with the lowering job - adjustable between 35 and 80mm thanks to an electronic lowering kit or optional Version 3 coilover, the Muron offers a new dynamic sensibility to Porsche's already very competent SUV. The MAFF portfolio includes some unique models able to develop over 700hp (522kW), which is one of the primary reasons engineers worked on the suspension of the big SUV.

Furthermore, no tuner Cayenne is complete without a set of huge alloy wheels, and MAFF doesn't disappoint, fitting a set of 22x10in alloys. Wrapped in beefy 295/30 rubber at all four corners, the driver will most likely run out of guts before the Muron runs out of grip.

Porsche news at Porsche Cayenne goes wider and lower with new MAFF Design ‘Muron’ kitauto newshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02770477355949529349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1841173365540175873.post-70148628483441079442009-05-06T08:07:00.000-07:002009-05-27T08:22:12.773-07:00Porsche planning Panamera Cabrio<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 194px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/Sh1Zu4wyTTI/AAAAAAAACUE/EoM3IVLBfNU/s400/Porsche+planning+Panamera+Cabrio.jpg" border="0" alt="Porsche planning Panamera Cabrio"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5340523395177139506" />
Carmakers love to build as many models as possible from a single platform as this helps them spread the initial investment costs involved, as well as the risk, of what can often run up into the billions of dollars. This is especially true for smaller carmakers with limited budgets and low production volumes. Case in point is Porsche, which has just developed a brand new platform for its 2010 Panamera sedan.

According to Porsche’s R&D chief, Wolfgang Dürheimer, the Panamera platform has great development potential and already in the works is a new Cabrio variant. Dürheimer first revealed the information during an interview with Auto Motor und Sport, where he also mentioned that because of its size the Panamera Cabrio will only feature two doors in order to maximize rigidity. Furthermore, Dürheimer confirmed that it will feature a conventional soft-top roof as this is the only option Porsche wants for all of its convertible models.

The Porsche exec wasn’t willing to reveal details about a successor to the 928 but previous reports suggest that such a car is in the works. The new car would likely be called the GT Coupe but unlike the Panamera it would be an all-out performance model rather than a comfortable tourer.

Both the new Cabrio and GT Coupe are expected to feature 2+2 seating plus most of the engine options from the Panamera sedan, which means a range of V8 powertrains as well as a new V6 unit. The upcoming hybrid version, however, will likely be limited to the four-door.

Porsche hasn’t officially confirmed either the Cabrio or the GT Coupe but the latest comments from Dürheimer suggest the cars are already in development, which means they should be on sale by next year as 2011 models.

Porsche news at Porsche planning Panamera Cabrioauto newshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02770477355949529349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1841173365540175873.post-47904013869189084972009-04-27T22:28:00.000-07:002009-04-27T22:34:52.872-07:00Build your own: Porsche launches configurator for Panamera Sedan<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 194px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SfaUmKmi6pI/AAAAAAAACTE/X3RAtTBarUA/s400/Build+your+own+Porsche+launches+configurator+for+Panamera+Sedan.jpg" border="0" alt="Build your own: Porsche launches configurator for Panamera Sedan"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5329610592441526930" />
Call it a blessing or call it blashpemy, Porsche's four-door Panamera is here to stay. And despite an odd angle here and there, it has a certain charm about it. If you're a believer, or even if you're in doubt, Porsche has launched a new Panamera Configurator that lets you see what you can do to improve on its basic design.

The example above - a well-outfitted $143,110 example of the Porsche Panamera Turbo - shows that there's a lot of flexibility in the online design tool. There are some limitations as well, however.

It will give you a photo of the car you've built updated with the trim level, exterior color, wheel option and interior choice, but smaller adjustments - such as painted intakes, diffusers or rear apron - aren't included, leaving your imagination to fill in the details.

In total, however, the tool is a handy way to explore the options the Panamera offers, all the way from the $89,800 base S model to the $93,800 4S and on to the $132,600 Turbo. Options can quickly boost those prices, however, with a full slate of options bumping the base model up to $150,000 and beyond. How much for a fully-optioned Turbo? Open up that wallet, because it will run you right up against the $200,000 mark.

A wide range of options are available inside and out, including a choice of birch, mahogany, aluminum and carbon fiber interior elements, a range of custom and premium paint colors, four sets of wheels and more audio equipment than you could shake a 300-CD case at.

To see for yourself, and build your own Panamera, check out the Panamera's model page and click the 'build your own' link for the model you want.

Porsche news at Build your own: Porsche launches configurator for Panamera Sedanauto newshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02770477355949529349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1841173365540175873.post-72350867582090529952009-04-23T22:17:00.000-07:002009-04-27T22:21:26.813-07:00Gemballa takes wraps off Porsche Cayenne Turbo-based Tornado 750 GTS<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 210px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SfaRvjQ9r6I/AAAAAAAACS8/GP0m99NJxrs/s400/Gemballa+takes+wraps+off+Porsche+Cayenne+Turbo-based+Tornado+750+GTS.jpg" border="0" alt="Gemballa takes wraps off Porsche Cayenne Turbo-based Tornado 750 GTS"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5329607455145832354" />
The high-performance SUV is something of an oxymoron at first blush, but anyone that's taken the wheel of a Porsche Cayenne Turbo or Mercedes Benz ML-Class AMG knows it's possible. Gemballa takes the concept to the next level, dropping over 550lb (250kg) from the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and boosting power to 740hp (552kW).

The weight savings are perhaps the most welcome change to the highly tuned SUV, since most tuner kits add weight through more elaborate interiors and bulkier aero packages. Slashing over 550lbs of weight from the vehicle while bringing a full Alcantara and carbon-fiber interior to the table is an impressive feat, and a serious improvement over the stock vehicle and even its own limited-edition Tornado GTS.

Power is the real story here, however, with over 750 horses straining to break out from under the hood. The twin-turbo V8 cranks out a massive 740hp (552kW) or 750 metric horsepower - hence the name. Torque tops out at 775lb-ft (1,050Nm), and that's enough grunt to scoot the big - but now relatively light - vehicle to 62mph (100km/h) in just 4.3 seconds. That's near-supercar territory, as is the 186mph (300km/h) top speed.

Keeping the shiny side up is a custom supsension that allows the ride height to be adjustable by 70mm, suiting purpose and conditions with ease. Big 22x12in wheels at all four corners wrapped in 335/25 aspect tires helps keep the power and momentum under control. When the whole show needs to come to a stop, a set of six-piston brakes paired with 420mm discs up front and 380mm discs out back provide ample capacity.

The end result is impressive in every respect, including its impact on your wallet. Only 50 of the special-edition Tornado 750 GTS Cayenne Turbos will be built, at a price of €400,000 ($521,880) - yet another way that the Tornado delves into supercar territory.

Porsche news at Gemballa takes wraps off Porsche Cayenne Turbo-based Tornado 750 GTSauto newshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02770477355949529349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1841173365540175873.post-23588746808898971322009-04-22T22:12:00.000-07:002009-04-27T22:16:39.577-07:00Porsche Panamera hybrid and V6 models coming soon<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 155px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SfaQkAxHlJI/AAAAAAAACS0/haOoAl-7oCQ/s400/Porsche+Panamera+hybrid+and+V6+models+coming+soon.jpg" border="0" alt="Porsche Panamera hybrid and V6 models coming soon"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5329606157395268754" />
The past week has seen a blitz of stories about the new Porsche Panamera, such as its dramatic 94th story reveal in a Shanghai skyscraper. For now, the four-door Porsche will only be offered in various V8-engined guises, but more economical engines are expected to be arriving soon - including a hybrid model.

Currently, Porsche has a Cayenne SUV prototype that uses a 3.0L V6 hybrid engine sourced from Audi, and it wouldn't be surprising if this engine found its way into the Panamera for the more environmentally conscious Porsche buyers out there.

Porsche purists may balk at the idea, but there is also expected to be a conventional V6 engine for the new Panamera - in other words, Porsche's famed flat-six won't likely be making an appearance in the new four-seater model.

Porsche's head of research and development, Wolfgang Durheimer, explained to Drive that the flat-six engine doesn't fit in the front of the Panamera because of the particular shape of the engine bay, as well as the fact that the suspension would get in the way.

A V6-engined variant will certainly bring down the cost of the cheapest Porsche Panamera, which for now resides with the Panamera S that starts at a little under $90,000. Assuming a petrol-powered V6 becomes the entry-level model, with conventional suspension rather than Porsche's air suspension system, we could see the Panamera drop a large amount of that $90,000 price tag.

An exact date hasn't been set for when the two variants will arrive, though they are expected to be launched by the end of the year. Until then, there's always the completely electric Porsche 911 from Ruf, although unfortunately it only features two seats.

Porsche news at Porsche Panamera hybrid and V6 models coming soonauto newshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02770477355949529349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1841173365540175873.post-59415417976981023302009-04-19T22:06:00.000-07:002009-04-27T22:11:12.840-07:00Porsche Panamera makes world debut at Shanghai Auto Show<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 232px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SfaPP5cH6gI/AAAAAAAACSs/tZcarHvGsQ0/s400/Porsche+Panamera+makes+world+debut+at+Shanghai+Auto+Show.jpg" border="0" alt="Porsche Panamera makes world debut at Shanghai Auto Show"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5329604712319150594" />
Porsche today unveiled its new Panamera grand tourer at the Shanghai Auto Show, ahead of its official European sales launch scheduled for September. The car will arrive in U.S. showrooms just one month later, although only the V8 variants will be offer initially.

These include the naturally aspirated Panamera S, AWD 4S and the flagship Turbo. The Panamera S is powered by a 4.8L V8 developing maximum output of 400hp (294kW). Power is transmitted to the rear wheels as an option by Porsche’s seven-speed Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) double-clutch gearbox. Acceleration to 100km/h comes in 5.4 seconds and top speed is 283km/h.

The Panamera 4S features the same powerplant but thanks to AWD traction only needs 5.0 seconds to sprint to 100km/h. The range topping Panamera Turbo, meanwhile, sports a twin-turbo 4.8L V8 engine with a healthy 500hp (368kW) on tap. When equipped with the PDK the car will accelerate from 0-100km/h in just 4.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 303km/h.

All models will be available with PTM, Porsche Traction Management, and a unique new high-volume adjustable air suspension will also be available, offering a wide range of performance options including a Sport Plus mode that lowers the car even further, stiffens effective spring rates and lowering the center of gravity. The standard steel suspension is also available on all models.

The Panamera S will start at $89,800, while the AWD 4S will start at $93,800 and the flagship Turbo from $132,600. Later this year Porsche will introduce an entry-level V6 model and a petrol-electric hybrid.

Porsche made a last minute decision to swap the debut of the Panamera from last month’s Geneva Motor Show to this week’s Shanghai event. The decision for the shift was due to the increased importance in the Chinese market, in addition to rapidly growing neighbors such as India and Russia.

More than 8,190 Porsches were sold in China last financial year, and this was more than double the number of sales made the previous year. At the same time, sales in established markets, such as Germany, dropped by more than 5% over the same period.

Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking said he is hoping for "new market opportunities" and a "stronger presence" in regions like China and the Middle East.

Porsche has set a firm production rate of 20,000 Panamera per year, but if demand drops the rate will be reduced. "In no case will we produce too many," Wiedeking explained. "In that case, I would intervene myself."

Porsche news at Porsche Panamera makes world debut at Shanghai Auto Showauto newshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02770477355949529349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1841173365540175873.post-19835025538002361082009-04-02T07:30:00.000-07:002009-04-03T07:34:48.642-07:00Spy shots: Facelifted Porsche 911 GT3 RS up close<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SdYd_2DhFnI/AAAAAAAACSk/7mH_2wLFlGE/s400/Spy+shots+Facelifted+Porsche+911+GT3+RS+up+close.jpg" border="0" alt="Spy shots: Facelifted Porsche 911 GT3 RS up close"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5320472992464049778" />
Porsche’s current iteration of the 911 has been around for almost four years and is currently in the process of a mid-cycle update. We’ve already seen the introduction of the facelifted Carrera and Carrera S, AWD 4 and 4S models, as well as the GT3, but still in the works are the more extreme Turbo, and GT2, plus the track-honed GT3 RS – the latter captured here in these latest spy shots.

It will be hard to spot the difference between the new and the old as the images reveal. This is because most of the planned changes will be taking place under the sheet-metal.

Power levels should receive the same 435hp (320kW) boost as the new 3.8L GT3. In line with the changes in the facelifted Carrera range, the engine in the updated GT3 RS will also sport bigger combustion chambers, a new crankshaft, an upgraded oil and water pump, and possibly direct-injection technology as well.

Acceleration times over the current model would likely be improved if Porsche adds its new Doppelkupplung dual-clutch system, but a conventional six-speed manual is likely to remain the only option given the intended purpose of the track special.

The GT3 RS will also once again based on the Carrera 4 body and should feature the same widened track, carbon-fiber interior and plastic rear window as the current model. Styling updates include new LED daytime running lights, revised taillights, a cleaner front end with larger intakes in the lower skirt, and a new lip spoiler. Expect to see the new model make its debut at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show.

Porsche news at Spy shots: Facelifted Porsche 911 GT3 RS up closeauto newshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02770477355949529349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1841173365540175873.post-54316307997195956972009-03-31T06:58:00.000-07:002009-04-03T07:06:49.280-07:00Porsche posts €7.34 billion in profits after seeing sales drop more than 27%<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 218px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SdYXtxjRsJI/AAAAAAAACSc/03pTn9YwyoY/s400/Porsche+posts+%E2%82%AC7.34+billion+in+profits+after+seeing+sales+drop+more+than+27%25.jpg" border="0" alt="Porsche posts €7.34 billion in profits after seeing sales drop more than 27%"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5320466084947669138" />
Porsche, coming off record sales and profits last financial year, has announced that for the first six months of the current year of business the company has experienced a 27.7% decrease in sales but miraculously profits have risen to €7.34 billion – up from €1.66 for the same period one year ago. While many of its rivals are struggling to stay in the black during the hard economic conditions, Porsche is in the unique position that it earns more income from its dealings in financial markets than it does from manufacturing and selling cars.

Profits are up because of positive contributions from cash-settled option transactions from changes in the share price of Volkswagen Group. This contribution increased from €850 million in the previous year to €6.84 billion this year, but depending on the current share price of VW the profits could dip by the end of the financial year.

Either way, with turnover only amounting to €3.04 billion, Porsche has once again managed to earn more profits than it made in sales. As for the actual numbers, sales of the 911 series amounted to 13,543 vehicles (16,261 in the previous year) and, in the case of the Boxster and Cayman, to 3,950 units (9,835 vehicles in the previous year). The Cayenne achieved sales of 16,773 vehicles (20,638 in the previous year).

Despite a strong chance of further declines in sales, the outlook for Porsche is looking very rosy, especially because the company has a range of new facelifted 911 models set for release this year, as well the new Panamera and recently updated Boxster and Cayman.

Porsche news at Porsche posts €7.34 billion in profits after seeing sales drop more than 27%auto newshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02770477355949529349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1841173365540175873.post-91243069390523606322009-03-13T06:28:00.000-07:002009-04-03T06:33:22.752-07:00Preview: Porsche GT Coupe based on Panamera sedan<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 208px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SdYPnW78ZVI/AAAAAAAACSM/Zt2cn_QG9CI/s400/Preview+Porsche+GT+Coupe+based+on+Panamera+sedan.jpg" border="0" alt="Preview: Porsche GT Coupe based on Panamera sedan"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5320457178631136594" />
Back in 2003, Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking gave a speech where he hinted at the possibility of a new 2+2 coupe. In the years that followed, no other mention of such a vehicle was heard until the confirmation of development plans for the recently revealed Panamera sedan. But is the new Panamera four-door coupe the same car Wiedeking was first hinting at all those years ago?

The Panamera would easily lend itself to a proper two-door coupe body, and Porsche would be smart to spread development costs for its new front-engined rear-drive platform by launching more models based on it. The new car could also serve as a successor to the V8-powered 928 – something fans of the classic GT have long been longing for since its demise in the mid 1990s.

The new car would likely be called the GT Coupe but unlike the Panamera it would be an all-out performance model rather than a comfortable tourer. This computer generated shows what a two-door version of the Panamera would look like, revealing a stylish grand tourer with classic Porsche proportions.

Engine options would likely mirror those of the Panamera, which means a range of V8 powertrains as well as a new V6 unit. Power outputs would range from 300hp (225kW) in the base GT Coupe and top out at 500hp (368kW) in the range-topping Turbo model.

The car is almost certainly in production and should be on the market late next year as a 2011 model.

Porsche news at Preview: Porsche GT Coupe based on Panamera sedanauto newshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02770477355949529349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1841173365540175873.post-18565944398522318042009-03-09T06:18:00.000-07:002009-04-03T06:25:14.984-07:00Legendary Porsche 917 race car turns 40<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 194px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SdYNus0-JfI/AAAAAAAACSE/fifyCaeHAUM/s400/Legendary+Porsche+917+race+car+turns+40.jpg" border="0" alt="Legendary Porsche 917 race car turns 40"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5320455105743300082" />
Forty years ago Porsche unveiled a car that to this day remains one of the fastest and most successful racing cars ever built. The car is the legendary Porsche 917 and its history is littered with major titles and even a starring role in the 1971 film Le Mans where it was piloted by Steve McQueen.

Porsche fired the starting shot for Project 917 in June 1968 after the FIA had announced a class of “homologated sports cars” with up to 5.0L cubic capacity and a minimum weight of 800kg. Under the supervision of Ferdinand Piëch, the stipulated 25 units of the new race car were completed by April 1969 so that the 917 could begin its racing career in the same year.

After it initially dropped out of its first three races due to technical problems, the 917 success story began in August 1969 with a win at a 1,000km race at the Österreichring, Germany. The original design of the car was incredibly unstable, however, and this lead to the 917 receiving the nickname ‘Widow-maker’. The car’s long tail body was generating significant lift on the straights, as the 917 was considerably faster than most of the race cars of its generation, and the significance of downforce for racing was still in its infancy.

Despite this flaw, the car was still loaded with technology and went on to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1970 and 1971. Some of its technologies included Porsche’s first 12-cylinder engine, and many components made of titanium, magnesium and exotic alloys. The 917 even featured a gear knob made out of balsa wood to help save weight.

The first versions featured a 520hp (388kW) 4.5L flat-12 engine. Later Can-Am series cars featured turbocharged engines with up to 1,580hp (1,180kW) in some models. Not surprisingly, the cars were producing numbers that could match those of the Bugatti Veryon – 0-62mph (100km/h) in 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 254mph (409km/h).

All in all, Porsche built 65 units of the 917 - 44 sports cars as short-tail and long-tail coupes, two Spyders, and 19 cars as Can-Am and Interseries Spyders with up to 1,400hp (1,044kW) turbo engines. Seven of the most important 917 models – among them the Le Mans victory cars from 1970 and 1971 and the 917/30 Spyder – are currently on exhibit in the new Porsche Museum in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen.

Porsche news at Legendary Porsche 917 race car turns 40auto newshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02770477355949529349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1841173365540175873.post-46152988804939356202009-03-03T01:07:00.000-08:002009-03-23T01:14:43.531-07:00Porsche sales hit hard by economic crisis, Boxster fares worst<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 218px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/ScdEZpAeAwI/AAAAAAAACRk/Cw7uGoWde3M/s400/Porsche+sales+hit+hard+by+economic+crisis,+Boxster+fares+worst.jpg" border="0" alt="Porsche sales hit hard by economic crisis, Boxster fares worst"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316293092429398786" />
Porsche, the once unassailable leader in the sports car segment, has proven that it is not completely shielded from the current economic crisis sweeping the globe. In an official statement, Porsche has revealed that the first six-months of the 2008/2009 financial year have not exactly been smooth sailing.

Earlier this year Porsche experienced an overall 27% decline in sales, and the latest communication from the company reveals that its mid-engined roadster, the Boxster, has been the hardest hit with sales down around 60%, from almost 10,000 units last year to barely 4,000 units this year. Meanwhile, sales of the 911 also fell, but not quite as dramatically as that of the Boxster. Last year Porsche sold 16,261 examples of the 911, and this year they managed to sell 13,543, marking a drop in sales of around 15%.

Porsche blames the fall in sales on the "general downwards trend of the global automotive industry", and the extremely poor performance of the Boxster is expected to improve when the facelifted Boxster and Cayman models are able to regain ground again in the second half of the financial year.

Meanwhile, the company is also expecting sales of its Cayenne to improve with the introduction of a new diesel model which arrived at dealers just a few days ago. Compared to last year, sales of the Cayenne have fallen by around 15%, but the new diesel model should see the hedonistic sports SUV enter the public's good books soon enough.

Porsche news at Porsche sales hit hard by economic crisis, Boxster fares worstauto newshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02770477355949529349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1841173365540175873.post-38069062095500326812009-02-20T00:06:00.000-08:002009-03-23T01:06:45.748-07:00Porsche's Cayenne S Hybrid: V8 power, 4-pot emissions<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 178px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/ScdCcL_DASI/AAAAAAAACRc/1ULPOgFhVpc/s400/Porsche%27s+Cayenne+S+Hybrid+V8+power,+4-pot+emissions.jpg" border="0" alt="Porsche's Cayenne S Hybrid: V8 power, 4-pot emissions"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5316290937155158306" />
It's no secret that Porsche's planning a range of production Cayenne hybrids, but specifics on the Hybrid S model have been slim - until now. A slew of details released today reveals the vehicle is targeting V8 performance with four-cylinder emissions and efficiency.

But it's not just about the fuel-saving aspects. Teaming an Audi 3.0L V6 DFI engine rated at 333hp and 324lb-ft of torque with a 52hp, 221lb-ft electric motor and a 38kW NiMH battery pack, the Cayenne Hybrid S is a perkier than the average hybrid, or six-cylinder SUV for that matter. Zero to 62mph (100km/h) ticks by in 6.8 seconds, despite the ULEV II emissions rating, cutting CO2 by 20% compared to the standard version.

Porsche also revealed the function of the hand-off between electric and combustion drive. Good for up to 1.2mi (1.9km) on electricity alone, once that reserve is exhausted, the computer fires up the engine, engages the clutch and transfers power all in just 380ms. And it does it "without the driver or passengers noticing what is happening" according to Porsche.

An eight-speed transmission ties the whole system together, offering long gears at the high end for more efficient cruising. The top speed gear is actualy sixth, so seventh and eighth are effectively overdrives. In top gear, the vehicle can maintain constant speeds up to 86mph (138km/h) on electricity alone.

The Cayenne Hybrid S drive system will also make its way into a Panamera hybrid, due to hit the streets in late summer (Q3) 2009.

Porsche news at Porsche's Cayenne S Hybrid: V8 power, 4-pot emissionsauto newshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02770477355949529349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1841173365540175873.post-72906243487907484382008-11-04T03:13:00.000-08:002008-11-05T03:30:06.897-08:00Porsche's new museum chooses its first exhibits<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 185px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SRGAR3xX3oI/AAAAAAAACMs/AcpR45awYTQ/s400/Porsche%27s+new+museum+chooses+its+first+exhibits.jpg" border="0" alt="Porsche's new museum chooses its first exhibits"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5265130483889987202" />
A museum of Porsche's greatest vehicles quietly launched its first twelve choices for its exhibits yesterday, with a total of 80 to be on display by the end of the week. Among the first dozen displays are the legendary 356 Cabriolet and the first prototype of the Porsche 924.

The museum is not yet open to the public, as Porsche is working to complete it in its entirety with a goal of finishing the structure by late 2008, and a grand opening in Q1 of 2009. Once finished, the museum will host approximately 300 exhibits in total, reports Auto Motor & Sport.

Three themes will dominate the museum's exhibits - the spirit of Porsche, the iconic 911 and the company's illustrious history in motorsport. The vast majority of vehicles on show will be restored to their vintage original condition, fully operational and driveable, according to museum director Klaus Bischof.

The 300 exhibits will not remain static, however. Porsche calls the concept a 'rolling museum' meaning new vehicles and exhibits will constantly be moving into the museum, keeping the experience fresh and showing a broader spectrum of Porsche history. The current museum is a very small affair of 20 exhibits, opened in 1976.

<marquee behavior="alternate" direction="down">
<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" title="Porsche's new museum chooses its first exhibits"href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SRGCdFI21jI/AAAAAAAACNM/TVn6YlG_j0g/s1600-h/Porsche%27s+new+museum+chooses+its+first+exhibits+-+4.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 205px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SRGCdFI21jI/AAAAAAAACNM/TVn6YlG_j0g/s320/Porsche%27s+new+museum+chooses+its+first+exhibits+-+4.jpg" border="0" alt="Porsche's new museum chooses its first exhibits"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5265132875479963186" /> <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" title="Porsche's new museum chooses its first exhibits"href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SRGCdNlh-cI/AAAAAAAACNE/Mpqn-CqROSg/s1600-h/Porsche%27s+new+museum+chooses+its+first+exhibits+-+3.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 205px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SRGCdNlh-cI/AAAAAAAACNE/Mpqn-CqROSg/s320/Porsche%27s+new+museum+chooses+its+first+exhibits+-+3.jpg" border="0" alt="Porsche's new museum chooses its first exhibits"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5265132877747714498" /> <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" title="Porsche's new museum chooses its first exhibits"href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SRGCcwrBtTI/AAAAAAAACM8/umx1-6kZUlk/s1600-h/Porsche%27s+new+museum+chooses+its+first+exhibits+-+2.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 161px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SRGCcwrBtTI/AAAAAAAACM8/umx1-6kZUlk/s320/Porsche%27s+new+museum+chooses+its+first+exhibits+-+2.jpg" border="0" alt="Porsche's new museum chooses its first exhibits"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5265132869986137394" /> <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" title="Porsche's new museum chooses its first exhibits"href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SRGCc7MD-OI/AAAAAAAACM0/Qbg3EfiLhLI/s1600-h/Porsche%27s+new+museum+chooses+its+first+exhibits+-+1.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 205px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SRGCc7MD-OI/AAAAAAAACM0/Qbg3EfiLhLI/s320/Porsche%27s+new+museum+chooses+its+first+exhibits+-+1.jpg" border="0" alt="Porsche's new museum chooses its first exhibits"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5265132872809052386" />
</marquee>

Porsche news at Porsche's new museum chooses its first exhibitsauto newshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02770477355949529349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1841173365540175873.post-78404422651053232822008-11-03T03:05:00.000-08:002008-11-05T03:08:51.862-08:00Porsche moving to lightweight, turbo-four platform for 2011 Boxster?<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" title="Tough CO2 emissions rules could drive a drastic redesign, but Porsche may not need to worry
"href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SRF-OPQdj8I/AAAAAAAACMk/4sVjWCIbguQ/s1600-h/Porsche+moving+to+lightweight,+turbo-four+platform+for+2011+Boxster.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 185px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SRF-OPQdj8I/AAAAAAAACMk/4sVjWCIbguQ/s400/Porsche+moving+to+lightweight,+turbo-four+platform+for+2011+Boxster.jpg" border="0" alt="Porsche moving to lightweight, turbo-four platform for 2011 Boxster?"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5265128222451666882" />
A new rumor alleging that Porsche insiders are talking about a lightweight, turbocharged four-cylinder next-gen Boxster has begun making the rounds. Though there has been nothing in the way of official confirmation, with the recent decisions to slow the onset of the EU's tough CO2 regulations and its graduated application, there is plenty of reason to disbelieve the reports. On the other hand, an all-new, high-tech turbocharged boxer four inside a redesigned and even lighter Boxster platform is an interesting idea.

The thought also coincides with possible rumors of a revived 914 that could be co-branded by both VW and Porsche, targeted at different market sectors. Expected power output for the turbocharged four-pot would be just over 200hp (149kW), reports Autocar. That means that in order to provide sufficient performance, the car would have to feature Lotus Elise-like lightness, weighing in between 1,800 and 2,000lb (800-900kg).

Such a design premise might offer more room to offer a detuned entry-level Carrera also aimed at improving emissions ratings. Even the current Boxster and Cayman, which with their 2.7L flat sixes are the most efficient in Porsche's line, emit about 222g/km of CO2 - about 100g/km more than the projected 2015 limits. That could leave Porsche struggling to make its emissions mark.

On the other hand, sacrificing that much performance may not be acceptable to Porsche, and its acquisition of the VW Group could help it maintain the current Porsche lineup unchanged, instead shunting its efforts toward improved fuel efficiency into VW and other marques more amenable to such a change.

If the new turbo-four Boxster does arrive on the scene, the insiders don't expect it before 2011.

Porsche news at Porsche moving to lightweight, turbo-four platform for 2011 Boxster?auto newshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02770477355949529349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1841173365540175873.post-52076644953098936342008-11-03T02:56:00.000-08:002008-11-05T03:04:20.578-08:00Porsche planning year-end production slowdown<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" title="The extended holiday is hoped to align output with demand"href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SRF9W4r6TxI/AAAAAAAACMc/onGEtoAaX3U/s1600-h/Porsche+planning+year-end+production+slowdown.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 213px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SRF9W4r6TxI/AAAAAAAACMc/onGEtoAaX3U/s400/Porsche+planning+year-end+production+slowdown.jpg" border="0" alt="Porsche planning year-end production slowdown"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5265127271499976466" />
Even as Volkswagen rockets to all-time highs in terms of market capitalization and Porsche's acquisition of the company begins to become more amicable, the company is announcing it will be slowing production from December 22 through January 9. Tough financial times have put a collar on even the elite German carmaker, but the time won't be left completely idle - upgrades to the production line will take place during the downtime.

The cessation at the Zuffenhausen plant is actually an extension of a traditional holiday break. The extra three days will be used to perform the upgrade and help bring production back in line with demand, reports The Detroit News. The Zuffenhausen facility is Porsche's main plant, employing about 1,000 workers.

A similar maneuver is being considered at Volkswagen as well, joining a growing list of carmakers having to rationalize output to meet record low levels of consumer demand over the last few months. Already General Motors and BMW have made similar announcements for their European facilities.

No word has been released on the volume by which production will be reduced, but Porsche has discussed moving some of its production of the Boxster, currently on contract to the Finnish firm Valmet, back into its own facilities if the current downturn continues.

Porsche news at Porsche planning year-end production slowdownauto newshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02770477355949529349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1841173365540175873.post-60627495755681417282008-10-28T02:29:00.000-07:002008-11-05T03:11:52.558-08:00Techart aerokit for the 2009 Porsche 911<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" title="Latest Techart aerokit features a new front spoiler, roof spoiler, and three-way adjustable wing"href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SRF2n2W-ozI/AAAAAAAACK8/knWeA8Cn7qA/s1600-h/Techart+aerokit+for+the+2009+Porsche+911.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 206px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SRF2n2W-ozI/AAAAAAAACK8/knWeA8Cn7qA/s400/Techart+aerokit+for+the+2009+Porsche+911.jpg" border="0" alt="Techart aerokit for the 2009 Porsche 911"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5265119866351690546" />
Techart is well known in the aftermarket tuner scene for creating some of the best functional aerokits for Porsche cars, so it comes as little surprise that there has been plenty of interest in the German tuner’s latest kit designed for the facelifted 911 range.

The pieces are constructed from high-quality polyurethane and have been developed using extensive wind-tunnel testing. The new front spoiler not only gives the 911 a slightly more aggressive look, it also reduces buoyant forces on the front axle and ensures optimal air flow to the brakes.

A roof spoiler and a three-way adjustable rear wing allow owners to customize the level of downforce applied on the rear axle to suit different driving tastes and performance needs. There are also a number of different wing styles, including a fully-active unit with an integrated back pressure air channel and additional adjustable gurney flaps.

Other details include decorative carbon-fiber trim for the side mirrors, a chrome finish for the headlights, lightweight wheels, and a custom sports exhaust system with a dual-oval muffler design.

Techart plans to present its new kit plus several other in-progress pieces for the facelifted Porsche 911 at the Essen Motor Show on the 28th of next month.

<marquee direction="down" behavior="alternate">
<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" title="Techart aerokit for the 2009 Porsche 911"href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SRF6YgC_EEI/AAAAAAAACMU/hBEDkUaDwLI/s1600-h/Techart+aerokit+for+the+2009+Porsche+911+-+1.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; Next year will be an even bigger year for Porsche, however, as there are more updated 911 models due as well as the facelifted Cayman and Boxster.

This is the first official image of the facelifted Porsche Cayman. It was posted on Porsche’s online configurator along with images of the facelifted Boxster. The images have since been removed but there were snapped just in time by AutoWeek.

Set to go on sale next year as 2010 models, the new Cayman and Boxster can be distinguished from the current models by their slightly revised headlights, tweaks to the air intakes, and the addition of LED tail lights. The mechanicals, however, will be in for a major update.

At the top of the list for the facelifted Cayman's upgrades is a reworked engine, which is expected to grow like the 911's mill by 0.2L. In the Cayman's case that results in a 2.9L flat-six that puts out 265hp (197kW) and 222lb-ft (300Nm) of torque, rising 20hp (14kW) and 20lb-ft (27Nm) over its predecessor. That should be enough extra power to scoot the small hardtop to 62mph (100km/h) in about 6.0 seconds. Further improvements to the sprint time will also be available via the PDK dual-clutch gearbox that is expected to become available as an option. With fitted with the quick-shifting gearbox, the new Cayman's 0-62mph run should take just 5.8 seconds. The base model will also reportedly be offered with an optional limited-slip differential (LSD) for the first time.

Bump up to the S model, and even more power and speed are on tap, thanks to the addition of direct-injection (which is skipped on the 2.9L unit). Power increases to 320hp (231kW) and 274lb-ft (370Nm) of torque, and the manual-equipped model with get to 62mph in 5.3 seconds, with the PDK-version cutting that back to 5 seconds flat.

In the S model, the PDK and direct-injection combine to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by about 10%. Upgrades to the electronics, navigation and entertainment system round out the mid-cycle upgrades for the Cayman.

Porsche news at Porsche Cayman and Boxster facelift images leakauto newshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02770477355949529349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1841173365540175873.post-20339064338281425742008-10-20T21:15:00.000-07:002008-10-20T21:37:45.044-07:00Spy Shots: Porsche Panamera seen in San Francisco<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" title="Panamera will initially be available with V8 engines only but V6 and hybrid models are expected to follow"href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SP1YdAiKGxI/AAAAAAAACD4/APUTVtqb9hk/s1600-h/Spy+Shots+Porsche+Panamera+seen+in+San+Francisco.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SP1YdAiKGxI/AAAAAAAACD4/APUTVtqb9hk/s400/Spy+Shots+Porsche+Panamera+seen+in+San+Francisco.jpg" border="0" alt="Spy Shots: Porsche Panamera seen in San Francisco"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259457195221326610" />
Porsche released a revealing official teaser for its upcoming Panamera sedan less than a month ago, which coincided with the start of the company’s official marketing campaign for the car, and now we have new spy shots, courtesy of the guys at Jalopnik, which give us a further preview of what to expect. Despite its early 2009 launch date quickly approaching, engineers are still finetuning the car but as the shots reveal the final design is almost complete.

Whether you love it or loathe it, the Panamera will likely change the performance sedan market forever. Buoyed by the success of the Cayenne SUV, Porsche’s managers have seen fit to put their famous badge on a car almost as big as a Mercedes S-Class.

Early reports indicate the Panamera will stretch almost five meters in length and more than two meters across, while tipping the scales at around 1,800kg. Owners of the top-of-the-line 4.8L V8 Turbo model will be looking at a kerb weight of almost two tons.

Porsche will launch the car with three engine choices – a 3.6L V6 with 300hp (224kW), a naturally-aspirated 4.8L V8 with 405hp (302kW), and a 4.8L Turbo model with approximately 520hp (388kW). Even with the base model owners will be able to hit 250km/h, however the Turbo will be capable of nudging the 300km/h mark. The Panamera will also be used to showcase Porsche’s commitment to eco-technology, with the introduction of a hybrid model using the 3.6L V6 mated to a 110hp (82kW) electric motor.

Base prices should start at €80,000 for the V6 RWD model and go up to €125,000 for the Turbo AWD variant (U.S. prices will most likely be lower). Porsche will expand its workforce by almost 1,000 to cater for Panamera production and the company hopes to sell 30,000 units a year.

Sales will begin in early 2009 but only the V8 models will be available at first. The V6 version isn’t expected to arrive until 2010, while the hybrid is slated for a 2011 release.

<MARQUEE direction="up">
<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" title="Spy Shots: Porsche Panamera seen in San Francisco"href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SP1ZjRbUBpI/AAAAAAAACEA/fE_cbnU4Pj4/s1600-h/Spy+Shots+Porsche+Panamera+seen+in+San+Francisco+-+1.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SP1ZjRbUBpI/AAAAAAAACEA/fE_cbnU4Pj4/s320/Spy+Shots+Porsche+Panamera+seen+in+San+Francisco+-+1.jpg" border="0" alt="Spy Shots: Porsche Panamera seen in San Francisco"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259458402346862226" /> <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" title="Spy Shots: Porsche Panamera seen in San Francisco"href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SP1Zj3e0R6I/AAAAAAAACEI/KSa82U8NjUw/s1600-h/Spy+Shots+Porsche+Panamera+seen+in+San+Francisco+-+2.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SP1Zj3e0R6I/AAAAAAAACEI/KSa82U8NjUw/s320/Spy+Shots+Porsche+Panamera+seen+in+San+Francisco+-+2.jpg" border="0" alt="Spy Shots: Porsche Panamera seen in San Francisco"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259458412562106274" /> <a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" title="Spy Shots: Porsche Panamera seen in San Francisco"href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SP1ZkB8SUuI/AAAAAAAACEQ/jMzfDL4bA_0/s1600-h/Spy+Shots+Porsche+Panamera+seen+in+San+Francisco+-+3.jpg"><img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SP1ZkB8SUuI/AAAAAAAACEQ/jMzfDL4bA_0/s320/Spy+Shots+Porsche+Panamera+seen+in+San+Francisco+-+3.jpg" border="0" alt="Spy Shots: Porsche Panamera seen in San Francisco"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259458415370064610" />
</MARQUEE>

Porsche news at Spy Shots: Porsche Panamera seen in San Franciscoauto newshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02770477355949529349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1841173365540175873.post-43262218390175893872008-10-16T21:05:00.000-07:002008-10-20T21:13:49.644-07:00Porsche slams government bailout for auto industry<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" title="Wiedeking is critical of using taxpayer funding to support inefficient private companies"href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SP1VduX_BEI/AAAAAAAACDo/Dp3OUQAbkXU/s1600-h/Porsche+slams+government+bailout+for+auto+industry.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SP1VduX_BEI/AAAAAAAACDo/Dp3OUQAbkXU/s400/Porsche+slams+government+bailout+for+auto+industry.jpg" border="0" alt="Porsche slams government bailout for auto industry"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259453908991804482" />
Porsche is expected to release another set of high profit figures for this financial year on the back of its growing stake in VW and its own successful sports car range, but despite this success the carmaker is critical of the poor performance of some of its rivals and the U.S. government bailout.

Porsche experienced a year of record profit last year, earning a profit of €4.24 after tax. Sales also reached record levels, earning the company revenues of €7.4 billion. These figures are expected to be improved upon this year, according to Porsche CEO Wendelin Wiedeking.

In a speech in the city of Frankfurt, Wiedeking affirmed that Porsche is better than it has ever been and that shareholders will be "rejoicing" at the coming financial results, reports Auto Motor und Sport. He also criticized the way the current global financial crisis is being handled, especially by the auto industry.

Citing the lack of responsibility shown by many companies, Wiedeking slammed auto companies for having previously operated for their own private profit but then wanting to socialize their losses. Wiedeking was also vocal about the use of taxpayer money in bailing out inefficient private companies, referring to both the U.S. bailout and the recent request from European carmakers for a similar aid package.

The future is looking very bright for Porsche. The company plans to expand its stake in VW group from the current 35% to a controlling 50% by the end of next month, and its upcoming Panamera sedan is expected to be one of the most profitable models in its portfolio.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SP1WCF1_h5I/AAAAAAAACDw/rQqPHEj3bfg/s400/porsche_family.jpg" border="0" alt="Porsche slams government bailout for auto industry"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5259454533766973330" />

Porsche news at Porsche slams government bailout for auto industryauto newshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02770477355949529349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1841173365540175873.post-77962528136136265942008-10-15T22:40:00.000-07:002008-10-16T00:28:11.519-07:00Spy shots and video: Facelifted Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Porsche’s current iteration of the 911 has been around for almost four years and is currently in the process of a mid-cycle update. We’ve already seen the introduction of the facelifted Carrera and Carrera S as well as the AWD 4 and 4S models, but still in the works are the more extreme Turbo, GT3 and GT2, and the track-honed GT3 RS – the latter captured here in these latest spy shots.

It will be hard to spot the difference between the new and the old as the images reveal. This is because most of the planned changes will be taking place under the sheet-metal.

Power levels should receive a slight boost over the 405hp (302kW) output courtesy of a new direct-injection system. In line with the changes in the facelifted Carrera range, the engine in the updated GT3 RS will also sport bigger combustion chambers, a new crankshaft and an upgraded oil and water pump.

The GT3 RS will also once again based on the Carrera 4 body and should feature the same widened track, carbon-fiber interior and plastic rear window as the current model. Acceleration times over the current model would likely be improved if Porsche adds its new Doppelkupplung dual-clutch system, but a conventional six-speed manual is likely to remain the only option given the intended purpose of the track special.

Styling updates include new LED daytime running lights, revised taillights, a cleaner front end with larger intakes in the lower skirt, and a new lip spoiler. Expect to see the new model make its debut shortly after the launch of the facelifted GT3 in the middle of next year.

Porsche news at Spy shots: Facelifted Porsche 911 GT3 RSauto newshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02770477355949529349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1841173365540175873.post-21563036240244745242008-10-14T22:19:00.000-07:002008-10-15T22:36:17.834-07:00Roock RST 600 LM based on the Porsche 911 Turbo<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SPbSbcHAULI/AAAAAAAACAg/BkcfxTMjXDc/s400/Roock+RST+600+LM+based+on+the+Porsche+911+Turbo.jpg" border="0" alt="Roock RST 600 LM based on the Porsche 911 Turbo"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257620983845507250" />
Roock may not be as well known as some of its rival German tuning houses but the company does have a number of important motorsport titles under its belt including a win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Roock’s latest creation, the RST 600 LM, has been built to celebrate the 10th anniversary of that Le Mans victory and will soon be available for sale in both the U.S. and Europe.

The RST 600 LM is based on the 997 Porsche 911 Turbo and includes a pair of modified twin-turbochargers, a titanium exhaust, custom fuel maps and new engine management software. These upgrades combined with the 911 Turbo’s flat-six engine result in a power output of 602hp (450kW) and maximum torque of 611lb-ft (827Nm).

Accelerating from 0-60mph takes 3.1 seconds, as opposed to 3.6 seconds for the stock model, and top speed has now been bumped to 212mph.

To match the extra power, Roock engineers have added a carbon racing clutch, an adjustable sports suspension system, new cross drilled and vented 380mm rotors with chunky eight-piston calipers and a custom four-pad brake design. Other features include a full bodykit with integrated diffusers and aluminum racing wheels with carbon-fiber Roock center caps.

The interior has been fitted with carbon-fiber trim, a modified center console with oil and temperature gauges, a custom engine starter button, and racing buckets with four-point harnesses.

Roock currently has display studios set up in Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Germany, to sell whole cars, but its performance parts are available for sale globally.

Porsche news at Roock RST 600 LM based on the Porsche 911 Turboauto newshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02770477355949529349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1841173365540175873.post-84721091672731520802008-10-12T21:59:00.000-07:002008-10-15T22:18:34.585-07:00Vorsteiner releases V-GT aero kit for the Porsche 911<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SPbKwzyfPdI/AAAAAAAAB_w/akY_8KEZYL0/s400/Vorsteiner+releases+V-GT+aero+kit+for+the+Porsche+911.jpg" border="0" alt="Vorsteiner releases V-GT aero kit for the Porsche 911"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257612554886135250" />
California-based tuner Vorsteiner has released its latest aerodynamic package for the 997 Porsche 911, reducing the car’s weight through the use of carbon-fiber as well as giving it a more aggressive overall look. Known as the Porsche 997 ‘V-GT Coupe,’ Vorsteiner’s new kit includes a carbon front bumper with flared lower flanks and much bigger air intakes than the standard unit found on the 911. Where the bonnet meets the bumper, there is also a new opening for the center radiator vent.

Despite being much lower than the standard 911 front bumper, the V-GT unit still offers comfortable ground clearance for daily driving conditions but is offered with a removable carbon lip spoiler for track usage just in case.

At the rear, Vorsteiner has added a new bumper with an integrated carbon diffuser and stabilizing aero fins. This improves downforce when used in conjunction with Vorsteiner's rear deck lid and wing. The V-GT decklid has been specially designed with integrated single-piece dual ram air scoops that channel air into the engine compartment during high speed driving. The carbon-fiber structure of the decklid also reduces the weight of the rear while retaining strength and rigidity.

A Vorsteiner wing blade further optimizes aerodynamics and air flow with its more aggressive wing profile that can be adjusted at different angles to provide customized levels of downforce for specific racing and track events.

Vorsteiner offers the choice between two lightweight full rear bumper replacements featuring either twin or quad slotted vents. The rear bumper comes standard with a European license plate opening but can be ordered to accommodate American plates also.

Custom Vorsteiner door sills are also available, as well as carbon-fiber mirror covers an interior dress-up kit. Previous Vorsteiner projects include packages for the BMW M3 and Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG.
<marquee direction="down">
<img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SPbNM5kcnbI/AAAAAAAAB_4/KrzpMCICcNI/s320/Vorsteiner+releases+V-GT+aero+kit+for+the+Porsche+911+-+1.jpg" border="0" alt="Vorsteiner releases V-GT aero kit for the Porsche 911"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257615236497448370" /> <img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SPbNMyyFxGI/AAAAAAAACAA/BdQS0BR_kLY/s320/Vorsteiner+releases+V-GT+aero+kit+for+the+Porsche+911+-+2.jpg" border="0" alt="Vorsteiner releases V-GT aero kit for the Porsche 911"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257615234675623010" /> <img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SPbNNMYHG1I/AAAAAAAACAI/kIufHcfmgzI/s320/Vorsteiner+releases+V-GT+aero+kit+for+the+Porsche+911+-+3.jpg" border="0" alt="Vorsteiner releases V-GT aero kit for the Porsche 911"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257615241545980754" /> <img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SPbNNOe6uNI/AAAAAAAACAQ/HbyLlN4Yvgc/s320/Vorsteiner+releases+V-GT+aero+kit+for+the+Porsche+911+-+4.jpg" border="0" alt="Vorsteiner releases V-GT aero kit for the Porsche 911"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257615242111400146" /> <img style="cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_7iYStL82p0A/SPbNNWqs6KI/AAAAAAAACAY/Xtbg9WIcxwY/s320/Vorsteiner+releases+V-GT+aero+kit+for+the+Porsche+911+-+5.jpg" border="0" alt="Vorsteiner releases V-GT aero kit for the Porsche 911"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5257615244308310178" />
</marquee>

Porsche news at Vorsteiner releases V-GT aero kit for the Porsche 911auto newshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/02770477355949529349noreply@blogger.com
