How long does it take to read data?

I have a 1 T HD with almost 500 GB of data, mostly photo files. I plugged it in April 25 and it hasn't stopped making the sound like it is reading, or transfering data. The HD is warm. How long should it take before it stops? If I unplug it, do I have to go through this again? Thanks!

Successfully attached 1.5 TB RAID Array via USB port

Just an FYI about being able to do something that I didn;t know was possible unless I tried it, I have a Pogoplug Pro. Bought and configured a hardware RAID array with eSATA and USB 3.0 ports. Filled it with 4 500 GB drives and configured to RAID 5 for a total of 1.5 TB. Formatted to NTFS. Stayed below 2 TB because i was not sure if the Pogoplug Pro could work with drive or partition sizes greater than that. did not create the partition as a GPUID but as a regular physical volume since it was under 2 TB. Attached with USB-I am sure it is going down to USB 2.0. So far so good. Can access drive using my.pogoplug, as a drive letter(had to change the label to remove a / character), and using my android phone and tablet with the client software. Can anyone tell me what the max drive size the Pogoplug Pro could support? Is the limitation based on the format or file system? Here is the raid array I bought http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816111149
[Read more]

Flash drive and USB HDD are not designed for 24*7?

Have had my PP Pro for 5 months with 2 16G flash drive attached, and everything works great~ Recently I read this article about multi-level cell (MLC) chip in flash drives. It claims that the designed lifespan for a MLC-based flash drive is “10,000 program/erase cycles per cell”. Looks like the flash drive has limited read/writes cycles and it is not designed for 24*7, if I plug them in all the time… will they stop working one day? Would USB HDD work better in terms of longevity (since they can spin down)? TIA~
[Read more]

Pogoplug cannot find my drive

OK, I worked with some files last night. The thing froze on me. It took Win7 down and I rebooted. I removed the HD prom pogoplug because it was not being recognized. I hooked it up to the computer and deleted the ceid folder and defragged it. I finished work on the files I was working on before the crash. Tonight, I rehooked the drive up to the pogoplug. It was not recognized. So, I logged onto the pogoplug thought the internet and got this message: An unhandled RPC exception occurred on method setOption: 500 [Unspecified server error] The drive is fine, but Pogoplug will not allow me to connect it. I even cycled the power. Nothing.

I have had it...!!!!!

Not that anyone should care but I have had it with the pogoplug.......they can take this piece of crap and shove it where the sun doesnt shine.....Ive been a pogoplug owner for a couple of years now...(sure dont know why).....hoping that they would finally get their act together and put out something that was worth it. I own a pogoplug (pink) and a Pogoplug Pro.....and dont get me wrong, the concept is great, but the product sucks. I dont mind spending my money on something that works, but I hate like hell throwing it out on the street and that is what I feel like I have done.....ok, enough ranting and raving. Since the new updated software, which by the way looks pretty good if everything worked......I have had nothing but problems keeping my hard drives working through pogoplug. I have to go through all the standard procedures to get them back online everytime i turn around. For some reason it just wont keep things up and running like im sure its supposed to....Just this morning I got up and found my drives unusable....I went through all the crap to get them back on line and then again this afternoon...

How do I change a folder name?

Hi, I am a newbie, I have tried to create a new folder on one of my attached drives - that was okay, it created 'New Folder'. However I don't seem to be able to rename this folder. I've tried highlighting it and typing a new name, but it just reverts to 'New Folder' each time. I'm sure there must be a simple way to do this (short of unplugging the drive from the Pogoplug device and connecting it directly to the computer - which rather defeats the whole idea of the Pogoplug) but I can't see it at present. I have tried searching this in the forums, but haven't managed to find anything so far. I would appreciate one of you folks who've been at it a while pointing me in the right direction. Thanks.

Which drives shut down?

Hey all - just got a Pogoplug, and I'm looking around for drives to purchase. One issue that I've had in the past with an Iomega device is that the drive was always on and spinning (at least as far as I could tell) - it failed on me, and I think spinning 24-7 probably had something to do with it. So, I'm looking for a USB 3.0 external drive (500mb to 1tb) that spins down when not in use - any body have any recommendations? Or ways to tell if a drive will spin down? Thanks in advance!

Pogoplug destroyed 500G of backup data

Yesterday I received my pogo. After setting it up using my.pogoplug.com and the desktop software I plugged in a 8 GB sandisk usb drive to test it. That USB drive appeared your desktop software and my windows explorer after some time. Happy with the results I decided to add my 500G WD backup drive. The LED on the drive kept blinking for some time and even after some time it appeared in the desktop software as a NO NAME drive. I double clicked on it to see the contents. But nothing appeared. I waited for 10 mins and pulled out the drive to check on my PC. The drive was EMPTY!!!!. It appears in Windows Explorer as "52.0 GB Free of 465 GB". But when I open any of the folders they are empty. The pogo has destroyed the fat32 headers on the drive. Now thanks to pogoplug I have lost 2 years worth of backup. I have tried to download all kinds of data recovery software from the internet but nothing has worked so far. Posting this so that any potential buyers can be made aware of this issue.
