Travel to Gokarna, a beautiful village situated in Northern Karnataka. It lies between the two rivers Gangavali & Agnashini on the coast of Karwar. Palolem- The Unexplored Beach of Goa

Palolem is a beautiful beach situated at South Goa. It is located around 25 kms from Margao(the main city in South Goa) and is just 30 kms from the town of Karwar in Karnataka.

Palolem beach is unknown to many and hence it is one of the cleanest and unspoiled beaches you can ever find in Goa. It is a lovely beach which is crescent- shaped. Both ends of the beach consist of rocks jutting out into the sea. The depth of the sea is shallow in the beginning and increases gradually, making it comparatively safer for the swimmers. The beach is inhabited by local fishermen and foreign tourists who lives in shacks along the shore or the main village.

St. Mary's Island is a small group of islands located 58 km north of Mangalore and little to the north of the port of Malpe town. These islands are well known for their
famous basalt rocks which have crystallized into columns and split into hexagonal mosaic.

Malpe: This is one of the major fishing harbor in the West coast and has a fabulous view. This is located 5km West of Udupi town and which makes us surprised by its
beautiful scenes and a very beautiful place to take sea bath.

St. Mary's isles are group of islands accessible by ferry from Malpe. Vascoda Gama appears to have touched the island in 1498 before he reached Calicut. These islands

are nothing but a few scattered projections of rock rising out the Arabian Sea around Malpe.

It has a coconut garden, which makes it the shadiest isle of the group and gives it a true south sea color. The northern most island is about a square mile in area and not
more than 250 yards in width. This is the only spot in India where basaltic rock show up such peculiar formations.

This place is attracting lot of students and research philosophers who often visit this island to learn about the volcanic rock. This island has a children's park and a fishing
harbor where you can show your fishing skills.

Moreover, there are guards all around the beaches of St. Mary's Island in Karnataka so as to prevent any visitor from entering the danger zones and this is a very good
place for shell collectors which are spread across the beach.

How to get there:

There are two routes to Skanda Giri:
1) Proceed directly to Kalawara village from Chikkaballapur.
2) From NH-7, turn towards Nandi Hills. At the base of Nandi Hills turn right and proceed to Kalawara village via Muddenahalli

Location: 70 km from Bangalore, Chikkaballapur. It is off Bellary Road (NH-7 Hyderabad-Bangalore Highway).

About the place: This is located in the Chikkaballapura district of Karnataka. The village name is called as Kandavara Halli and the hill is called as Kandavarahalli Betta Kalawarahalli Betta). This is one of the hill forts in the Nandi Hill ranges and history says that this is a small but strong hill fort.

Tippu Sultan reportedly captured this fort from a local ruler by bribing two milk women who used to supply milk to the ruler to poison him and his men to death.

On 19 October 1791, it was surrendered to British troops. It remained in British hands until the peace treaty of 1792, which concluded the third Anglo-Mysore war.

There are two caves, one starts from the base and as per locals, leads to the temple at peak and another one is somewhere midway which is about 30 feet only. Both are yet unexplored, specially the first one.

Locals say that there are pythons in the caves and had swallowed their goats at times. Supposedly, there are 6 Samadhis in that cave.

elephants, Guars (Indian Bison), Sloth bears, spotted deer, Sambar deer, tiger, leopards, porcupine, wild dogs and panthers

are found here.

Poojas and Archana are done thrice in a day. The first worship of the God begins at 5:30 followed by Rudrabhisheka between

6:00 and 8:00 in the morning and again between 10:30 AM and 12 in the noon.

Special poojas are conducted during Sankashta Chathrthi, New moon and full moon day.

The main festival is Maha Shivarathri (February/ March); where in special poojas are conducted.

About the place: Rangasthala is one of the tourist spot in Karnatka. The Rangasthala temple appears magnificent from outside, resembling the temples built during the Vijayanagar period. But now the interior part has been renovated recently and the beauty seems to be faded.

This is a Saligrama Moorthy and Prathistai was done by Saptharishi. The Moorthys at Srirangapatna, Srirangam and Srirangapatna all were installed on the same day and on the same time.

The Praharam and Gopuram which are found outside the temple were constructed by the Vijayanagara Kings. Surrounding Praharam is the Garbhagriham, which is built in the form of a Bamboo Basket ( Moongil Thathu in Tamil ,Sibir Thate in Kannada).

The idol of Ranganatha is four and half feet in length with Bhoo and Neela Devi sitting near the leg. Lord is in Yoga Nidra and his Shesha is spreading his five hoods like a Umbrella and nitheyan sitting below.

Sapthrishis ,Brahma, Ashta Dhikbalakas, Rambha ,Urvashi ,Pancha Ayudham's etc can be found on the wall. The Moorthy is very beautiful and appears to be in a very relaxed state.

Best time to visit: During the Brahma Ustavam which is celebrated in the Month of December. If you observe the Lord During the Thirumanjanam he looks very beautiful.

The Temple Timings are Daily Morning 8.00 Am to 11.00 Pm and Evening 5.30 Pm to 8.30 Pm.

How to reach: Travel towards Chikkaballapur. Once you Chikkaballapur ask for Bus stand / Gauribidanur road then if you travel 5 kms on Gauribidanur road on Right handside you will find the Sign board Rangasthala take a right turn and travel till dead end of the road.

Mysore is the second biggest place in the state of Karnataka. This place is known for its majestic palaces, magnificent places, tree lined boulevards, sprawling gardens,

Mysore Dasara is celebrated for victory of the Goddess Chamundeshwari of Chamundi Hills, after killing the wicked buffalo-headed demon, Mahishasura indicating the victory

of good over evil.

The word Mysore is derived from the word Mahishuru or Mahishasurana Ooru, which means the town of Mahishasura, the demon king who is believed to have lived here.

During the reign of Chamaraja Wadiyar the city is said to have reached the peak of its glory and had gained prominence.

Mysore is situated 770m above the sea level and has warm and cold climate through out the year.

Places to see:

Mysore palace- This Maharaja's palace is one of the major sights of Mysore, built in in Indo-Saracenic style with turrets, domes, colonnades and arches.

This palace is a treasure house for Intricately carved rosewood doors, marble figurines, some ceilings with inlaid ivory work, collections of caskets, objects of personal use

and paintings of the members of the royal family, all exhibit such reality though age as worn them out a bit with slight discoloration.

The palace will be illuminated by by close to 100,000 bulbs on Sundays and National Holidays between 7PM-8PM, which is a breathtaking beauty.

Wodeyar's magnificent jewel studded golden throne is displayed here during the Dasara festival.

Brindavan Gardens:

Brindavan Gardens is one of the best among all the gardens in Karnataka, located at the KR Sagar Dam [Kannambadi].

Since 1960s, Brindavn has provided the backdrop for many Indian films and is spread over 150 acres.

The special attractions include the "Dancing Mountains" and in December 2004 the entire garden was restructured with new fountains and lights.

Chamundi Hills:

This can be reached by a 13km road from Mysore or by climbing 1000 steps laid out by the Mysore Maharaja in the 17th century from Mysore which is 800km above the

The huge Nandi statue, a majestic 4.8 meter monolith on the mountain is also well known. At the top we can find 12th century temple of Chamundeshwari, the goddess of

the Wodeyars.

You can find the gigantic statue of the demon Mahishasura close to the temple.

St. Philomena's Church:

This is a beautiful Cathedral, reminiscent of medieval architectural style, one of the largest churches in the country.

This is built in the gothic style with stained glass windows and lofty towers with a very well built structure.

Mysore Zoo:

This was set up in nineteenth century under royal patronage. This includes exotic species which is housed with green surroundings. The zoo is famous for breeding very rare

animals.

Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens has emerged as one of the finest zoos in the country. The zoo has embarked on a new venture to set up a state-of-the-art Rescue and

Rehabilitation Centre.

The zoo has prepared to establish the centre for emergency mobile ambulance for the animals which was an Rs 5.5-crore plan and forwarded the same to the Central Zoo

Authority (CZA) for approval.

If it gets approved then this would be the first zoo to have an emergency mobile service to rescue animals fighting for life and cater to animals in and around Brahmagiri,

Madikeri, Bandipur, Kanakapura and other wildlife sanctuaries.

The Art Gallery

In 1875, the Jaganmohan Palace was converted into an art gallery and exhibits paintings that dates back to that period.

The artists of that time used mineral dyes and natural vegetable. The famous paintings of traditional Mysore 'gold leaf' are also exhibited in the gallery.

There are also paintings of contemporary artist like Raja Ravi Varma and Svetoslav Roerich.

Daria Daulat Bagh:

This is Tippu's Summer Palace built in 1784 is located here which is made of teak includes Indo-Sarcenic structure has beautiful frescos and ornate.

It has now become a museum and tells Tipu's valor and his losing battle against the British.

History of Devarayandurga temple: Temple as rocky hill station situated in the midst of scenery of an altitude of 3940 feet, about 9 miles east of tumkur town in Karnataka state,
Orginally know as Anebiddasari(The place where the elephant fell).
The lowest elevation situated is the Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple. Near by are two things to known as Ane done and Jaya tirtha, they form the source of the streams Mangali and Jaya. These unite at Irukasandra at the foothill. These hills are the source of the river Shimsha.

At the mid elevation, there are other springs known as Rama-tirtha and Dhanus-tirtha. There is the large cave nearby with photos of Rama, Sita and Lakshmana. And also you can find the Government Travelers Bungalow and few places of rest here.

And most important of all are the Yoganarasimha and the Bhoganarasimha temples.

Other Temples near Devarayandurga :
Temples of Narasimah , Kumbhi on the third elevation stands. This Narasimha temple consists of a Garbhagriha, a sukanasi, a navagraha and a mukhamantapa .
There are three sacred ponds or Kalyani here known as Narasimha-teertha, Parasara-teertha and Pada-teertha. A Hanuman temple, known as Sanjivaraya, This temple is said to be older than the Lakshmi Narasimha temple. Higher up above is a small shrine of Garuda.

Jatre or Festival at Devarayana Durga.
The festival or the Jatre of the Devarayana Durga Sri Bhoga Narasimhaswamy is held during Phalguna Masa(month), shuddha poornima (Full moon) day around the Month of March/April in Devarayanadurga. On this day the chariot/Ratha of Sri Bhoga Narasimhaswamy is drawn in the main Ratha beedhi of the hill town. The festival draws devotees from all over Bangalore-Tumkur and surrounding areas.

Narasimha Jayanthi at Devarayana Durga.
Devarayanadurga Sri Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy's Jayanthi, an annual celebration of Narasimha avathara day or the birth day of Narasimha takes place during month of Chaitra, Shudha chathurdashi (May month). During this occasion thousands of people gather from all parts of Karnataka and celebrate. Eats and savories like Panakam(Jaggery drink), buttermilk, phalamruth and free feeding is done to all devotees coming for the Darshan(Sacred View) of Lord.

Giri Pradakshine at Devarayana Durga.
According to the Hindu puranas, the ritual of circling the hills known as Giri Pradakshine on which the temples were situated, is considered very sacred. Many devotees undertake this journey at Devarayana Durga.

Events: An annual music festival on Karnatic music is held in July every year here.

Savana Durga Hill (Means forth of death).

History says: This was a location for the making of David Lean's movie Passage to India.
The hill rises to 1226 m above mean sea level.
Savana Durga is situated on Magadi Road. It is around 70 km from Bangalore City.
On the way to Savana Durga you will find ChamarajaSagar Water Treatment Plan (on your right). Magadi Road is also known as State Highway 17E. When you cross the 50 km mark, you will start seeing the monolithic rock structure. You will have to turn left from the highway and travel another 12 km before making another left turn to travel 3 km. At the end of that 3 km stretch, you will find Savana Durga.

Fees:
And there is no need to give any fees to entire the place. There are some guides who can guide you. But I don’t think is necessary. Because the road itself will guide you to reach at the top. But don’t forget the lane of the road.
To see there is he monolithic proportions of Stalinist architecture rock climb is used by many trekkers. And at the top of the hill you find a fort and a very nice Sri Basaveswara, Sri Narasimhaswamy and Sri Veerabhadraswamy Temple. Religious people will visit the temple largely.
For Trekkers its good place to explore the Savana Durga Hill.
And Before going be prepaid for things to carry: Food, Drinking waters and all other stuffs you need. Because u don’t find anything at the top of the savanna durga hill,
And you plan this Trip for 1Day because, u don’t get any lodging or rooms to stay there.
Safety measures: if you go early in the morning. You will find that the rock is wet and you have all possibility for slipping from rock. It would be highly advisable to wear good pair of shoes or rubber soled shoes during the trek.

Brief History of Ranganatha Swamy temple:

In photos you can see are a Saligrama Moorthy and Saptharishi did the Prathistaparu(Build). The Moorthy's at Srirangam, Srirangapatana and Sri Rangastala all were installed on the same day and same time.
Outside praharam and Gopuram etc were constructed by Vijayanagara Kings. There is a praharam around garbhagriha. If you closely observe you can observe as if the garbhagriham is in the shape of a Bamboo Basket we assume that Sri Ranganatha is in the middle of the basket.
One more interesting story which we got is During Lord Rama's Patabhishekam Vibhishana also comes to attend it and in the end Rama presents a Lord Rangnatha's moorthy in Bamboo basket and Vibhishana is compelled to do the Prathistai in Srirangam and to commemorate the occasion the Saptharishi s do the Prathistai of Lord Ranganatha with Bhoo and Neela Devi here in Rangasthala.
SO the Lord appears as if he is in Bamboo basket. The idol of Ranganatha is four and half feet in length with Bhoo and Neela Devi sitting near the leg. Lord is in Yoga Nidra and his Shesha is spreading his five hoods like a Umbrella. And Vainatheyan is sitting below . In the wall there are Sapthrishis ,Brahma, Ashta Dhikbalakas, Rambha ,Urvashi ,Pancha Ayudham's etc. and it appears as if Lord is in Vaikunta and he is surrounded by all the gods. And All Devatha's etc they are doing Namaskaram to Lord.

The Temple Timings are :

Daily Morning 8.00 Am to 11.00 Pm and Evening 5.30 Pm to 8.30 Pm.
