Seen a web site or a web page that you want to save in your local drive but don’t want to save it as html with all those external images? You can save it to a doc file but it would be much cooler to save it into PDF.

Web2PDF is a free online service that does only one thing. It will convert a page off the web into PDF format for you. You don’t have to sign up or anything, just enter the address of the page you want converted and wait for it while it does its thing. Conversion takes about a couple of minutes and you will be given a link where you can download your PDF.

They also have a bookmarklet for Firefox users who doesn’t want to visit the site to do their conversion. Only thing I would like to see is a way to select elements in the screen to convert so I won’t have to see ads and comments but I guess that would defeat its simplistic approach.

If you’re an internet junkie like me then you’ve got to envy the people at St. Louis especially those who are subscribed to charter ultra fast 60 service which is one of the fastest in the US. That’s 60Mbps speed folks!! I don’t know if you would still be able to get off the PC if you have speeds like that.

With 60Mbps I would be able to:

Play those online Games OnDemand like Fear2, NBA 2k10 and Crysis without having to go to the store to buy the game itself. Fast downloads and no more lag when playing.
Watch movie flicks online. Not just any ordinary videos but those high definition shows like from Hulu or Netflix. No more lengthy buffering or stuttering. It’s going to be just like watching it offline.
Download more stuff! It would be very nice to see your download progress move right in front of your eyes instead of reading a book while waiting for your download to finish.

Fortunately, Charter is bringing their Ultra60 and phatband technology outside St. Louis. It’s now available at Southern California and expect it to reach more cities soon.

Virus for the iPhone? It’s now a reality

There’s this reported virus or a worm to be exact that’s making its way to jailbroken iPhones. It’s still very primitive and can easily be prevented but it opens the possibility of other complex virus to spread via mobile phones.

This first reported worm which is called “ikee” and created by a hacker named ikex has infected jailbroken iPhones in Australia. What it does is simply change your wallpaper to an image of Rick Astley and tries to install itself to other iPhones on the network. Very funny if you think about it but this is how computer virus started out in the 90’s, just a prank.

Only jailbroken iPhones with the default password of ‘alpine’ and with SSH installed can be infected. So if I were you, change the root password now if you have a jailbroken iPhone.

With the release of Windows 7, a lot of people have already migrated to the new and “faster” OS from Microsoft. With the new OS comes new architecture and it’s time again to see which browser works well with Windows 7.

Fortunately, Lifehacker already did the test using the popular browsers including the beta versions. If you’re interested in reading the whole test, head over to Lifehacker.

What struck me the most is how Firefox leads the pack when it comes to memory usage. I always encounter system stuttering when there are more tabs loaded on my Firefox 3.5.

Here are the overall scores based the speed and memory usage of the browsers tested on a Windows 7 system (higher the better):

Google Chrome 4.0.223.11: 23
Firefox 3.6 beta 1: 21
Google Chrome 2 (stable): 19
Firefox 3.5.4: 17
Safari 4.03: 17
Opera 10.01: 16
Internet Explorer 8.0.7600: 13

The lightweight Google Chrome is still the best among the bunch when it comes to speed and memory usage. Trailing the list is the “supposed-to-be” improved version of IE 8.

I am still a Firefox user mainly because of its AdBlock plugin. But I’m still longing for a built-in incognito or private browsing mode for it.

Dyson’s bladeless fan is a thing from the future

There has no significant innovations in the world of electric fans ever since its inception. Not until Dyson introduced its bladeless fan they call the Dyson Air Multiplier.It’s quite complicated to explain how it can produce airflow that you can redirect. I don’t even understand their explanation but it goes like this:

Air is drawn into the base of the machine. The air is forced up into the loop amplifier and accelerated through the 1.3mm annular aperture, creating a jet of air that hugs the airfoil- shaped ramp. While exiting the loop amplifier, the jet pulls air from behind the fan into the airflow (inducement). At the same time, the surrounding air from the front and sides of the machine are forced into the air stream (entrainment), amplifying it 15 times. The result is a constant uninterrupted flow of cooling air.

So what advantage does a bladeless fan have over the traditional fans aside from being child-friendly? It eliminates “buffeting”, the on-off gush of air caused by blades chopping the air and creating an uneven airflow. You’ll get smooth and uninterrupted air every second if that’s a good thing for you.

Believe it folks. It’s real and it costs a whopping $299 for the 10-inch model.
