If we look at the history, the Jal Mahal was built by Sawai Pratap Singh. This red stone monument is also called as “Water Palace”, since much of the palace is surrounded with water and is subsided under the mud and silt of the Man Sagar Lake is used to look over and was built by constructing a dam between two hills. This place was built for the Royal family as a palace of leisure and especially for royal duck shooting parties.

Settled in the midst of the lake, the Jal Mahal is the one of scenic attractions of Jaipur, known for its intricate artistry and architecture. The place consists of five stories. But, we can see only the top floor and the remaining four floors of the building are permanently under water. The best time to visit the palace is during the winter months as the lake is filled with plenty of colorful wandering birds, which must be seen.
