Please introduce yourself. How old are you, where do you live and what is your job?

I am a child of 1958, the end of the Baby Boom generation, and am 53. I live in a village on the edge of the North York Moors, North Yorkshire, England. I am a working landscape photographer. However, in keeping with the new reality of multi-tasking for the self employed, I also print photographs (mostly my own), lead workshops, write articles and books, give talks and seminars, and occasionally present for TV and at events (photography-related).

How long have you been taking photos and what brought you to photography?

I have been a 'serious' photographer ever since I started taking pictures as a fine art student, and that was from 1976 -1980. Scary! In some ways what brought me to photography was my inability to embrace 'abstraction' in painting; I was too fond of...

How long have you been taking photos and what brought you to photography?

I’ve been in love with photography since I was 15 years old when my mother Gave me a Kodak Pocket for my birthday. I just love images and photography fulfill that passion.

Do you follow any photographic icons? If so, how do they inspire you?

I follow Michael Kenna because of his minimalism style. His photographs take You to a journey and contains deep emotion.He teaches me that less is more.

Please introduce yourself. How old are you, where do you live and what is your job?

I am Jack Brauer, I'm 31 years old, and I live in the little town of Ouray, in the rugged heart of the San Juan Mountains in southwest Colorado. I work from home; photography is 1/2 of my business (mostly selling prints through my website) and the other half is building gallery websites for other photographers.

How long have you been taking photos and what brought you to photography?

I have been taking photos for about 10 years. I was a fine art printmaking major in college at the University of Colorado in Boulder, and I started using a digital camera to take pictures of textures which I could use in my intaglio and lithograph plates. I also got into backpacking with my friends in college, and I started bringing the camera along on backpacking trips. Though I wasn't too serious about photography at first, I really enjoyed photographing the amazing scenery that you can find in the wilderness, and eventually I became more dedicated to landscape photography...

Chip Forelli here - I'm in my 50"s and commercial and fine art photography is my job.

How long have you been taking photos and what brought you to photography?

I've had my own business since 1983. Photography, like architecture which I studied in college, requires a fine balance between aesthetic sensibility and craft, or the technical and creative. Maintaining a balance between the two is necessary - if you alter the balance, you run the risk of becoming overly conceptual or preoccupied with technique.”

Do you follow any photographic icons? If so, how do they inspire you?

I admire Ansel Adams, Michael Kenna, Fay Godwin. Clarity and consistency of vision and excellence in craft.

My name is Varina Patel and I am 33 years old. I am a freelance wilderness and landscape photographer based in the US.

How long have you been taking photos and what brought you to photography?

I have been interested in photography since I was a small child. I took my first photography class in the 7th grade, and I majored in Art for my first few years of College. I soon decided that photography was impractical as a career choice, so I changed my major. In the end, I graduated with a degree in Information Technology – which has helped enormously in my not-so-impractical-after-all career choice. :) I am able to build my own websites, process my digital images with ease, and understand the complex workings of the camera.

Ragnar Axelsson born 1958, 51 years old and living in Iceland and I am a staff photographer at the newspaper Morgunbladid.

How long have you been taking photos and what brought you to photography?

I started taking photographs at the age of 10 when I was on a farm on the south east coast of Iceland. I got interested in birds and to the people who lived nearby the farm. It was isolated and there where no bridges over the rivers so it was an adventure everyday, even going to church on Sundays could be difficult passing rivers from the glaciers. At the age of 16 I decided to be a photographer or a pilot , I did learn both but decidet to work as a photographer.

What photographic equipment do you use? What is your favourite film material?

Please introduce yourself. How old are you, where do you live and what is your job?

Hi Michal, thanks for your interest in my work. I'm 30 and have been a full time landscape photographer for a few years now and going strong. I've been a photo enthusiast for almost half my life. I'm based in Corvallis, Oregon because I love the diversity this region has to offer. I can be on the ocean, old-growth forests and waterfalls, in the mountains or out on the desert in only a few hours from my house.

How long have you been taking photos and what brought you to photography?

I've had a love for nature all my life, but started taking photos since late in my teens when backpacking and mountaineering were my main hobbies. It was found and became really impressed with the work of the late Galen Rowell, and I consider him to be the primary inspiration that lead me to take photography more seriously, and develop the business and audience I have today.

Been shooting for 30 years, the last 20 years as a livelihood. Like most it started as a hobby, became a passion and was able, via Stock photography, to turn it into a living. In many cases one doesn’t choose these things it chooses you.

Please introduce yourself. How old are you, where do you live and what is your job?

Name: Ian Cameron, born in Kent, England in 1962 which makes me 47 years old.

I travelled the world with ruc-sac and 35mm film based camera for two years in 1996, returning briefly to Sheffield, England and thereafter joined the Police in Scotland, primarily because the shift work would enable me to get out into my beloved scottish hills on a regular basis. Four years ago I set up Transient Light my own photographic business which luckily enough for me flourished. I went part time in the Police and then two years ago I became a full-time landscape photographer running workshops selling prints and doing commissioned work.

I now have my own branded Scottish calendars and a book published in conjunction with Outdoor Photography magazine which I'm delighted to say is doing pretty well. Currently I live 25 miles east of Inverness in Forres with my wife and two young...
