I just stumbled upon a book on street shooting published by 85mm, a strong street shooter who’s work stands tall, worth a read if you’ve ever wanted to both see and read about street shooting.

Mount Rainier from 38,000′

I travel to Seattle frequently and the Cascade mountains are my favorite things to shoot from up high. Shasta, the Three Sisters, Crater Lake, Adams, what’s left of St. Helens and finally Rainier all provide gorgeous landmarks on the flight. Rarely is the contrast very good, normally just slight shade of blue and white, so I prefer to use high contrast black and white to bring out a dark mood and let the mountains jump out from the clouds. Here are my latest shots of Mt. Rainier from Virgin America VX746 at 38,000′.

Avedon at Work In The American West

I’m a huge fan of Richard Avedon who in fact sparked my 2010 portrait project. His work stands on it’s own but now an account of just how he worked on this project has been put out by Laura Wilson titled Avedon at Work In The American West. I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to hear some of the ways in which a great body of work is acquired. Pressing the shutter is truly the least part of it.

I’m always blown away by the amount of effort people put into Burning Man and toting around your own photo studio is one of them. Kudos to Eric Schwabel for his vision, follow through and gorgeous photos.

Hans Malm Forecast Project – Double Exposures Done Well

I stumbled upon a challenging project by Hans Malm called Forecast, a series of double exposures made across the world. He started by taking a roll of black and white film in one city then rolling it back, travelling to another city around the world and double exposing. Adventurous and large, I love this kind of concept. The images are subtle and dream-ish, take a look for yourself.

Liver High School Portrait Seconds on Flickr

On my path to putting out a book of these portraits I’m starting to pull out the next set of images, my seconds. I definitely need to be spending more time on this set of images as it’s much larger and as of yet mostly unprocessed. What’s ready so far is now available of Flickr.

My plan is to use Blurb Bookmarker to publish the book. My previous attempts have shown their quality to be high and I haven’t yet tried their premium paper. I’ll most likely have a small book printed to try it out first before going for the large format. Prices aren’t cheap but the layout tool is exceptional. Too bad I can’t print then bind these at home – does Epson make a double sided Premium Luster?

Silent UK – Photographs from the Underground

I stumbled upon Silent UK today while reading a MAKE Magazine article on London’s now abandoned mail train line. The site has some excellent photos from around Europe’s sewers and subways. These kids are both great photographers and adventures. Wonderful environmental shots to peruse.
