How about this for a reason to move your data to the cloud?

This is not a typical post for me and actually my planned post for this week was on a completely different topic but I felt that the recent news about AT&T data plans needed comment.
If you have not heard AT&T recently announced a change to their data plans for the iPhone and the iPad. In the past you had a $14.99 plan that gave you a maximum of 200mb allowed for the month and a 29.99 plan that had unlimited data transfer in the month available. I commented in my …

Post update – Ipad

May 22nd, 2010 by Phil

I wanted to write a quick follow-up to my blog post of this past week to also write about the lack of Java on the Ipad. When I first looked at the lack of flash support I realized that in the enterprise space the lack of flash is a non-issue except maybe to the trade rags that are calling it a show stopper (I think to some degree these same mags heavily use it so there is somewhat a conflict ). What I did realize as I continued to try …

Ipad for the enterprise ?

May 19th, 2010 by Phil

I know what your thinking, another iPad review, damn. let me just say that I am not a journalist so what I will share are my impressions from using the iPad for the enterprise worker, no games etc.(sorry) probably how you would attempt to use it yourself, so I’ll touch on things formal reviewers would never consider in the short time they use the unit. Note that I have decided to do all of my blog posts going forward from my iPad, so I’ll …

I recently read a infoweek article about the Feds use of mobile video, what struck me about the article is that it talked about the Feds normally being behind on technology but no longer touts the article since they will now be using tethering and running a pilot with windows 6, seriously?? well the last time I checked windows 6 was no longer current, the current version is 6.5 and being supplanted by 7.0 soon, I guess when the Feds finally deploy their win6 mobile app they will be ahead?? …

So you think you’re secure?

I am very cognizant about security issues I would say that I border on the paranoid but I believe that anyone that is in IT and ignores security either personal or at work is foolhardy. I am struck on a regular basis how little thought people give to openly providing information and how this total lack of disregard for security opens the doors to hacks and what is scarier is that more and more these days legitimate businesses are also extracting your private information. Do you think I am being …

Why SAP's new DB won't be the Oracle killer

October 27th, 2009 by Phil

As you may have heard SAP has been making a lot of noise lately with their improved database technology, this was described in Hasso Plattner’s keynote address for Sapphire and in subsequent new articles there is a lot of buzz about how this finally will supplant Oracle as the DB leader. The reality is though that even though the technology is impressive and certainly looks superior (all we have seen are demos ) this is not something we have not heard before.

In search of… quality software

As a typical windows user I notice that over time my windows system starts to deteriorate in performance. Usually it is because the installs and uninstalls I do throughout its lifetime affect the OS (not that it should). Well when things get bad, I wipe the system and start from scratch, definitely not something most people will do but it works well for me. This year was unusual as I just completed my third wipe of the year which I had never done before. I did this because the system …
